Abstract
This invention is related to the fabrication method of Cu2O / TiO2 nanotube arrays (Cu2O / TNA) composite based on green synthesis using kepok banana peel extract (Musa paradisiaca L.) as a source of polyphenol compounds that act as reducing agents, stabilizers, and crystal growth controllers. This method begins with the formation of TNA through an electrochemical anodization process on a titanium substrate in an ethylene glycol-based electrolyte containing NH4F, followed by a calcination process to obtain anatase TiO2 structure. Furthermore, a Cu2O layer is deposited on the TNA surface through the electrodeposition method using Cu(CH3COO)2·H2O solution added with kepok banana peel extract with varying polyphenol concentrations of 0, 2, and 3 g Lâ€'1. The characterization results show that the formed Cuâ‚‚O / TNA composite has anatase TiO2 and cubic Cu2O phases without CuO or metallic Cu impurity phases.Variations in polyphenol concentration significantly affect the crystallite size, morphology, and optical properties of the material, where increasing polyphenol concentration results in smaller crystallite size, more uniform truncated octahedral Cu2O morphology, and a decrease in band gap energy from 2.68 to 2.66 eV which increases the visible light absorption capacity. The resulting composite has the potential to be applied as a photoelectrochemical material.
