Abstract
This invention relates to the process of making an exhaust gas emission filter media based on activated carbon derived from durian peel (Durio zibethinus) with the addition of zeolite as an additive to increase thermal resistance. The process includes preparation of raw materials, carbonization through pyrolysis, chemical and thermal activation to produce activated carbon, zeolite activation, mixing activated carbon and zeolite until homogeneous, adding starch-based adhesive, forming a filter media in the form of hollow briquettes, and drying until a ready-to-use filter media is obtained. The resulting filter media has the ability to adsorb pollutant gases such as carbon monoxide (CO), hydrocarbons (HC), carbon dioxide (CO₂), and particulates, and has better thermal resistance due to the addition of zeolite. This invention provides an emission filter media that is effective, economical, environmentally friendly, and utilizes durian peel waste as a value-added raw material.
