AI Technical Summary
Water-containing pest repellent compositions exhibit reduced effectiveness when applied to textile products containing fibers like cotton and rayon due to reduced adhesion of the repellent components to these fibers.
Incorporating a glycol monoether compound with both high and low polar structures into the pest repellent composition enhances the adhesion of the repellent components to fibers, thereby improving the pest repellent effect.
The addition of a glycol monoether compound significantly enhances the adhesion and effectiveness of pest repellent components on fibers such as cotton and rayon, resulting in improved pest repellency.

[0004] [Patent Document 1] Japanese Patent Publication No. 2020-117457 [Patent Document 2] Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 2004-244322 Summary of the Invention [Problem to be solved by the invention]
[0005] Through investigations by the present inventors, it has been found that when these water-containing pest repellent compositions are applied to textile products containing fibers such as cotton, polyurethane, rayon, etc., the pest repellent effect is significantly reduced compared to pest repellent compositions that do not contain water.
[0006] Therefore, an object of the present invention is to provide a water-containing pest repellent composition for treating textiles, which exhibits excellent pest repellent effects when applied to textile products. [Means for solving the problem]

As a result, they have found that the addition of a component having a specific chemical structure improves the pest repellent effect when applied to textile products, and have completed the present invention.
[0008] That is, the present invention has found that the following configurations are highly effective in achieving the above-mentioned object. [Effects of the Invention]
[0009] According to the present invention, it is possible to provide a water-containing pest repellent composition for treating textiles, which exhibits an excellent pest repellent effect when applied to textile products. DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
[0010] The pest repellent composition for treating fabrics of the present invention will be described below. However, the present invention is not intended to be limited to the embodiments and examples described below. In this specification, the unit of content "w / v%" is synonymous with "g / 100 ml." In addition, when a range is indicated by "~" in this specification, it is assumed that the range includes both the upper and lower limits.
[0011] [Pest repellent composition for textile treatment] The pest repellent composition for treating fibers of the present invention comprises: (A) a pest repellent component; (B) a glycol monoether compound; (C) Water, and a pest repellent composition for treating textiles, which exhibits excellent pest repellent effects when treated on textile products, particularly textile products containing fibers such as cotton, polyurethane, rayon, etc.
[0012] Because fibers such as cotton, polyurethane, and rayon contain highly polar functional groups, such as hydroxyl groups and urethane bonds, when treated with a water-containing (C) pest repellent composition for treating fibers, it is thought that these highly polar functional groups hydrate, further reducing the compatibility of the low-polarity (A) pest repellent component with the fibers, which is believed to result in a decrease in the adhesion of the (A) pest repellent component to the fibers and a decrease in the pest repellent effect.
[0013] Therefore, it is presumed that by adding (B) glycol monoether compound, which has both a high polarity structure (one hydroxyl group) and a low polarity structure (for example, a hydrocarbon structure and an ether structure), (B) glycol monoether compound acts as a binder, increasing the adhesion of (A) pest repellent ingredient to the fiber, thereby demonstrating excellent pest repellent effects.
[0014] ((A) Pest repellent ingredient) The pest repellent component (A) used in the present invention is a synthetic or natural compound having a low polarity and exhibiting a repellent effect against pests. For example, icaridin (1-methylpropyl methacrylate) is 2-(2-hydroxyethyl)-1-piperidinecarboxylate" or "2-(2-hydroxyethyl)-1-piperidinecarboxylate 1-methylpropyl"), DEET (sometimes referred to as "N,N-diethyl-m-toluamide"), 3-(Nn-butyl-N-acetyl)aminopropionic acid ethyl ester (sometimes referred to as "ethyl butylacetylaminopropionate" or "IR3535"), p-menthane-3,8-diol (sometimes referred to as "PMD"), butyl 3,4-dihydro-2,2-dimethyl-4-oxo-2H-pyran-6-carboxylate, n-hexyl triethylene glycol monoether, methyl 6-n-pentyl-cyclohexene-1-carboxylate, dimethyl phthalate, eucalyptol, menthol, menthyl acetate, Examples of pest repellent ingredients that can be used include (A) α-pinene, geraniol, citronellal, citronellol, citral, terpineol, camphor, linalool, carvone, dioctyl phthalate, dibutyl phthalate, naphthalene, essential oils and extracts extracted from citronella, peppermint, cedarwood, lavender, tea tree oil, cinnamon bark, camphor, lemongrass, clover, thyme, geranium, bergamot, bay laurel, pine, red peach, benny royal, eucalyptus, and Indian sedan, as well as pyrethroid compounds such as pyrethrin, allethrin, phthalthrin, resmethrin, furamethrin, phenothrin, permethrin, cyphenothrin, prallethrin, etofenprox, empenthrin, transfluthrin, metofluthrin, and profluthrin. [0033] [Manufacturing example] (A) 0.8 g (0.8 w / v%) of DEET, a pest repellent component; (B) 10 g (10 w / v%) of phenoxyethanol, a glycol monoether compound; (C) 50 g (50 w / v%) of ion-exchanged water; and the balance of absolute ethanol were mixed to produce a pest repellent composition for treating fabrics of Example 1, with a total volume of 100 mL.
[0034] Furthermore, the components were blended as shown in Table 1, and the other procedures were the same as in Example 1, to produce pest repellent compositions for treating fabrics of Example 2 and Comparative Examples 1 and 2.
[0035] [Mosquito repellent efficacy test (settlement prevention, modified glass box method)] Two pieces of fabric (100% cotton) cut into 24 x 30 cm pieces were uniformly dotted with 0.9 mL of the pest repellent composition for textile treatment of Example 1, and the pieces were air-dried for 30 minutes. Of the four 24 x 24 cm glass plates, two were attached with fabric treated with the test agent (treated group), and the remaining two were attached with untreated fabric (untreated group). A box was created with the four glass plates arranged alternately in the treated and untreated groups. The box was placed on white paper, and the top was covered with a net. Test insects (20 adult female Culex pipiens mosquitoes) were released into the box, and the distribution of the test insects was observed within 60 minutes. The repellency rate was calculated using the following formula 1. Similar tests were also conducted for Example 2 and Comparative Examples 1 and 2, and the test results are shown in Table 1.
[0036] [Formula 1] Repellency rate (%) = {[total insects trapped in the untreated area - total insects trapped in the treated area] / [total insects trapped in the untreated area]} x 100
[0037] [Table 1]
[0038] As a result of the test, it was found that Examples 1 and 2, which are pest repellent compositions for treating fibers containing (A) a pest repellent component, (B) a glycol monoether compound, and (C) water, exhibit superior pest repellent effects when applied to fibers, particularly fibers containing cotton, compared to the pest repellent compositions for treating fibers of Comparative Examples 1 and 2, which do not contain (B) the glycol monoether compound.
