Description

[Technical field]

[0001] The present invention relates to a pouch-forming apparatus for forming a housing portion in a pouch sheet for housing a battery assembly, and a pouch-forming method using the same.

[0002] This application claims the benefit of priority based on Korean Patent Application No. 10-2022-0081405 dated July 1, 2022, and all contents disclosed in the documents of that Korean patent application are incorporated herein by reference. [Background technology]

[0003] Secondary batteries are classified into coin-type secondary batteries, prismatic secondary batteries, cylindrical secondary batteries, pouch-type secondary batteries, etc., depending on the shape of the battery case.

[0004] The electrode assembly mounted inside the battery case of the secondary battery has a laminated structure of electrodes and a separator.

[0005] The electrode assemblies can be classified into a jelly roll type in which a separator is interposed between a sheet-type positive electrode and a negative electrode coated with an active material and the electrode is wound up, a stack type in which a number of positive electrodes and negative electrodes are stacked in sequence with a separator interposed, and a stack / folding type in which a stack type unit cell is wound up with a long separator film.

[0006] Recently, there has been a trend toward the widespread use of pouch-type secondary batteries in which a stack-type or stack / folding-type electrode assembly is housed in an aluminum (AL) pouch-type battery case.

[0007] The pouch-type secondary battery has the advantages of a simple structure, a large electric capacity per unit volume, low manufacturing cost, small weight, and easy shape modification.

[0008] Pouch-type secondary batteries are formed through the following processes in order: slurry mixing, electrode (cathode / negative) coating, plate pressing, plate slitting and plate notching / punching, plate drying, plate lamination, plate stacking, pouch packaging, electrolyte injection, formation, and pouch degassing.

[0009] Meanwhile, in the packaging process, a pouch forming operation is performed to form a receiving portion in a pouch sheet for receiving the battery assembly.

[0010] The storage portion is formed by pressing a partial area of the pouch sheet.

[0011] At this time, an organic lubricant is generally added to films such as pouch sheets, and after the film is removed, the lubricant seeps out onto the surface of the film, thereby providing good slip properties through the lubricant.

[0012] Meanwhile, the pouch sheet includes an aluminum (Al) layer, and when deep forming of the pouch sheet is performed, the aluminum layer breaks, causing a problem of cracks occurring in the pouch sheet.

[0013] In addition, the frictional force increases during the forming process of the pouch sheet, and the sliding performance decreases, so that a large pressure load is applied to press-fit the receiving portion. Summary of the Invention [Problem to be solved by the invention]

[0014] The present invention aims to provide a pouch forming apparatus and a pouch forming method using the same, which can reduce friction during deep forming by lowering the temperature of the pouch sheet in advance during the pouch sheet forming process and increasing the amount of lubricant in the pouch sheet. [Means for solving the problem]

[0015] In order to solve the above problems, according to one aspect of the present invention, a pouch forming apparatus is provided, including a cooling unit for cooling a pouch sheet, and a forming unit for receiving the pouch sheet that has passed through the cooling unit and forming a receiving portion in the pouch sheet in which an electrode assembly is received.

[0016] The cooling unit may include a cooling chamber having a space through which the pouch sheet passes, and a temperature adjusting section for adjusting the temperature of the space of the cooling chamber.

[0017] The temperature control unit may be configured to supply compressed air into the space.

[0018] The temperature control unit may be configured to maintain the temperature of the space lower than room temperature.

[0019] Moreover, the temperature control section can maintain the temperature of the space at 5°C to 10°C.

[0020] The forming unit may also include a die having a mounting surface on which the pouch sheet supplied from the cooling unit is mounted and a forming groove formed on the mounting surface, a punch for pressing a portion of the pouch sheet into the forming groove to form the receiving portion, and a stripper for applying pressure to an edge region of the pouch sheet mounted on the die.

[0021] Also, the die may be provided so as to be movable so that the mounting surface moves closer to or further away from the punch.

[0022] Also, the punch may be configured to be inserted into the forming groove when the die moves in a direction approaching the punch.

[0023] Also, the mounting surface of the die and the stripper may be configured to maintain contact when the punch is inserted into the forming groove.

[0024] The die may include one or more exhaust passages fluidly connected to the forming groove, and the exhaust passages may be configured to exhaust air within the forming groove to the outside of the die when the punch is inserted into the forming groove.

[0025] The pouch forming apparatus may also include a controller for controlling the cooling unit and the forming unit.

[0026] The controller may be configured to control the forming unit based on the cooling temperature of the cooling unit.

[0027] According to yet another aspect of the present invention, there is provided a pouch-forming method using the pouch-forming apparatus, the pouch-forming method including the steps of cooling a pouch sheet while passing through a cooling unit, and forming a receiving portion in which an electrode assembly is received in the pouch sheet that has passed through the cooling unit.

[0028] In addition, the cooling unit may be configured to maintain a temperature lower than room temperature when cooling the pouch sheet.

[0029] Also, the cooling unit may be configured to maintain a temperature of 5°C to 10°C when cooling the pouch sheet. Effect of the Invention

[0030] As described above, the pouch forming apparatus and the pouch forming method using the same according to an embodiment of the present invention have the following advantages.

[0031] The amount of lubricant in the pouch sheet can be increased by lowering the temperature of the pouch sheet in advance before the pouch sheet forming step.

[0032] In addition, during deep forming of the pouch sheet, the slip performance of the pouch sheet can be improved and friction during pressing can be minimized, thereby reducing the pressure load required for the forming process.

[0033] In addition, the limit forming depth of the pouch sheet can be improved, and therefore the energy density per battery cell can be improved. [Brief description of the drawings]

FIG. DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS

[0035] Hereinafter, a pouch forming apparatus and a pouch forming method using the same according to an embodiment of the present invention will be described in detail with reference to the accompanying drawings.

[0036] In addition, regardless of the drawing symbols, identical or corresponding components will be given the same or similar reference numbers, and duplicate descriptions thereof will be omitted, and the size and shape of each component illustrated may be exaggerated or reduced for the convenience of explanation.

[0037] FIG. 1 is a block diagram illustrating a process in which a pouch forming apparatus according to an embodiment of the present invention is used.

[0038] Referring to FIG. 1, the pouch forming method may be performed during a pouch packaging process performed between a plate stacking process and an electrolyte injection process in a process for manufacturing a pouch-type secondary battery.

[0039] The pouch forming process is a process for forming a receiving portion 1013 in which a battery assembly (10, see FIG. 7) is received in a pouch sheet (1012, see FIG. 7).

[0040] Also, the pouch forming apparatus according to an embodiment of the present invention is an apparatus for performing a pouch forming process.

[0041] FIG. 2 is a schematic diagram showing a pouch-forming apparatus according to one embodiment of the present invention, and FIGS. 3 to 6 are schematic diagrams for explaining one operating state of the pouch-forming apparatus according to one embodiment of the present invention.

[0042] FIG. 7 is a schematic diagram showing the pouch sheet after the forming process is completed.

[0043] A pouch forming apparatus 1000 according to one embodiment of the present invention includes a cooling unit 1100 for cooling a pouch sheet 1010, and a forming unit 1200 to which the pouch sheet 1010 that has passed through the cooling unit 1100 is supplied and which forms a receiving portion 1013 in the pouch sheet 1010 in which an electrode assembly 10 is received.

[0044] In this document, the pouch sheet that passes through the cooling unit 1100 and is supplied to the forming unit 1200 is indicated by reference numeral 1010, and the pouch sheet on which the receiving portion 1013 is formed after the forming process in the forming unit 1200 is indicated by reference numeral 1012.

[0045] The forming unit 1200 is a device for forming the receiving portion 1013 in the pouch sheet 1010, and the cooling unit 1100 is a device for cooling the temperature of the pouch sheet 1010 supplied to the forming unit 1200 (M).

[0046] Here, the pouch sheet 1010 supplied to the cooling unit 1100 and the forming unit 1200 may include aluminum (Al) and be provided in a sheet form.

[0047] The cooling unit 1100 is a device for adjusting the temperature of the pouch sheet 1010 before supplying the pouch sheet 1010 to the forming unit 1200. In particular, the cooling unit 1100 is provided to lower the temperature of the pouch sheet 1010 by cooling the pouch sheet 1010 to a predetermined temperature.

[0048] The cooling unit 1100 may include a cooling chamber 1110 having a space 1113 through which the pouch sheet 1010 passes, and a temperature adjusting section 1130 for adjusting the temperature of the space 1113 of the cooling chamber 1110 .

[0049] The cooling unit 1100 may be configured in various ways to cool the pouch sheet 1010.

[0050] For example, the cooling unit 1100 may use compressed air to adjust the temperature of the pouch sheet 1010 passing through the cooling chamber 1110. That is, the temperature adjustment part 1130 may be provided to supply compressed air into the space part 1113. The compressed air may be adjusted to a predetermined temperature and supplied into the cooling chamber 1110.

[0051] As another example, the temperature control unit 1130 may include a cooling device (such as a compressor, evaporator, condenser, and expansion valve) that uses a refrigerant to adjust the temperature of the space 1113, and the temperature of the pouch sheet 1010 passing through the cooling chamber 1110 may also be adjusted through the cooling device.

[0052] In such a case, the temperature of the space 1113 of the cooling chamber 1110 is lowered by the refrigerant, so that the temperature of the pouch sheet 1010 passing through the cooling chamber 1110 can be lowered.

[0053] The temperature control unit 1130 may be provided to maintain the temperature of the space 1113 lower than room temperature, and in particular, the temperature control unit 1130 may be provided to maintain the temperature of the space 1113 at 5° C. to 10° C. The temperature control unit 1130 may be controlled by a control unit 1300, which will be described later.

[0054] Generally, the pouch sheet 1010 is transferred at room temperature prior to the forming process. At this time, the pouch sheet 1010 can be pre-cooled to a temperature lower than room temperature by passing the pouch sheet 1010 through a cooling chamber 1110 .

[0055] The control unit 1300 can control the temperature of the space 1113 through a temperature control unit 1130. Also, the pouch forming apparatus 1000 can transfer the pouch sheet 1010 to the cooling unit 1100 and the forming unit 1200 through a transfer unit such as a roll to roll.

[0056] In this manner, when the temperature of the pouch sheet 1010 is lowered using the cooling unit 1100, the amount of lubricant in the pouch sheet 1010 increases before the forming process, thereby improving the slipperiness of the pouch sheet 1010.

[0057] The forming unit 1200 is provided to form a receiving portion 1013 for receiving the electrode assembly 10 inside the pouch sheet 1010 during the packaging process of the secondary battery.

[0058] Referring to FIG. 3, the pouch sheet 1010 supplied (M) to the forming unit 1200 has been cooled by the cooling unit 1100 .

[0059] 2 to 6, the forming unit 1200 may include a mounting surface 1231 on which the pouch sheet 1010 supplied (M) from the cooling unit 1100 is mounted, a die 1230 having a forming groove 1232 formed on the mounting surface 1231, a punch 1220 for pressing a portion of the pouch sheet into the forming groove 1232 to form the receiving portion, and a stripper 1212 for pressing an edge region of the pouch sheet 1010 mounted on the die 1230.

[0060] Referring to FIG. 3, the pouch sheet 1010 cooled by the cooling unit 1100 is supplied between the die 1230 and the punch 1220 and the stripper 1212 of the forming unit 1200 .

[0061] The die 1230 is located at the bottom of the pouch sheet 1010 , and the punch 1220 and stripper 1212 are located at the top of the pouch sheet 1010 .

[0062] At this time, the die 1230 may support the pouch sheet 1010 from the lower portion of the pouch sheet 1010. The die 1230 has a mounting surface 1231 on which the pouch sheet 1010 is mounted. The mounting surface 1231 may be provided at an upper end of the die 1230.

[0063] A forming groove 1232 is formed on the mounting surface 1231 of the die 1230. The forming groove 1232 is formed by depressing a part of the mounting surface 1231 inward (lower).

[0064] Furthermore, the size and shape of the containing portion 1013 formed in the pouch sheet 1012 will vary depending on the size and shape of the forming groove 1232 formed in the die 1230 .

[0065] 4, the die 1230 is provided to rise toward the pouch sheet 1010 for the forming process of the pouch sheet 1010. Also, referring to FIG. 6, the die 1230 is provided to descend to the initial position when the forming process of the pouch sheet 1012 is completed.

[0066] 4 to 6, the die 1230 is provided so as to be movable such that the mounting surface 1231 approaches the punch 1220 or moves away from the punch 1220. To this end, a die moving part 1240 is connected to the die 1230.

[0067] At this time, when the die 1230 moves in a direction approaching the punch 1220, the punch 1220 is inserted into the forming groove 1232, and when the punch 1220 is inserted into the forming groove 1232, the mounting surface 1231 of the die 1230 and the stripper 1212 are arranged to maintain a contact state.

[0068] The die moving part 1240 is connected to the lower end of the die 1230 and provides a force for lifting the die 1230 toward the pouch sheet 1012 or for lowering the die 1230 away from the pouch sheet 1012 .

[0069] In addition, the die moving unit 1240 may be provided with a servo motor, but is not necessarily limited thereto. When the die moving unit 1240 is provided with a servo motor, there is an advantage that the elevation and lowering height of the die 1230 relative to the pouch sheet 1012 can be precisely adjusted.

[0070] At this time, the die moving part 1240 may be connected to the die 1230 via an axis-shaped moving connection part 1242 .

[0071] Meanwhile, the die 1230 may include one or more discharge passages 1234 fluidly connected to the forming groove 1232, and the discharge passages 1234 may be configured to discharge air within the forming groove 1232 to the outside of the die 1230 when the punch 1220 is inserted into the forming groove 1232.

[0072] 5, the die 1230 may be formed with at least one discharge passage 1234, which communicates with the forming groove 1232 formed in the die 1230. The discharge passage 1234 may be formed such that an upper end portion communicates with the forming groove 1232 formed in the die 1230, and a lower end portion passes through the lower end portion of the die 1230 to communicate with the outside.

[0073] During the forming process, when the pouch sheet 1012 is pressed by the die 1230 , the punch 1220 and the stripper 1212 , air existing between the forming groove 1232 and the pouch sheet 1012 is discharged to the outside of the die 1230 through the discharge passage 1234 .

[0074] At least one discharge passage 1234 may be provided on either side of the die moving part 1240, but may also be provided on both sides of the die moving part 1240.

[0075] When the discharge passages 1234 are provided on both sides of the die moving part 1240, the two discharge passages 1234 may be provided at a predetermined interval from each other.

[0076] The punch 1220 is provided to press the pouch sheet 1010 attached to the attachment surface 1231 of the die 1230 .

[0077] 4 and 5, the punch 1220 presses the pouch sheet 1012 in the direction of the forming groove 1232 together with the die 1230 as the die 1230 moves upward, thereby forming the receiving portion 1013 in the pouch sheet 1012.

[0078] The punch 1220 is disposed at a position where the pressing portion 1221 faces the forming groove 1232 of the die 1230. At this time, when the pressing portion 1221 of the punch 1220 is inserted into the forming groove 1232, a portion of the pouch sheet is pressed into the forming groove 1232, thereby forming the receiving portion 1013 in the pouch sheet 1012.

[0079] At this time, the length of the pressing portion 1221 of the punch 1220 in the width direction can be set to be smaller than the length of the forming groove 1232 in the width direction.

[0080] In addition, the stripper 1212 is positioned to pressurize the edge region of the pouch sheet together with the die 1230, and the stripper 1212 is configured to form an outer shell 1014 around the receiving portion 1013 of the pouch sheet 1012 by contacting the mounting surface of the die 1230.

[0081] At this time, the position where the outer portion 1014 is formed refers to an edge region surrounding the receiving portion 1013 formed on the pouch sheet 1012 .

[0082] The stripper 1212 presses the edge region of the pouch sheet 1012 positioned between the die 1230 and the punch 1220 with a pressing end 1213 to form an outer shell 1014 .

[0083] At this time, the outer shell 1014 formed by the stripper 1212 is supported by the mounting surface 1231 of the die 1230 .

[0084] Meanwhile, the punch 1220 presses the pouch sheet 1012 attached to the die 1230 while its position is fixed to the movable support part 1210 .

[0085] Also, the movable support part 1210 may be provided in the form of a block. At this time, a connection part 1211 of a stripper 1212 is inserted inside the movable support part 1210, the stripper 1212 is provided to be movable (up and down) inside the movable support part 1210, and a punch 1220 is fixed to the movable support part 1210.

[0086] Referring to Figure 4, punch 1220 and stripper 1212 do not descend toward the pouch sheet 1010, and when the pouch sheet 1010 attached to the mounting surface 1231 of die 1230 rises due to the upward movement of die 1230, punch 1220 and stripper 1212 come into contact with the pouch sheet 1010 attached to the mounting surface 1231 of die 1230, and apply pressure to the pouch sheet 1010.

[0087] Referring to FIG. 5, with the pouch sheet 1012 attached to the attachment surface 1231 of the die 1230 , the die 120 is again raised by the die moving part 1240 in a direction approaching the punch 1220 and the stripper 1212 .

[0088] As a result, the pouch sheet 1012 attached to the mounting surface 1231 of the die 1230 comes into contact with the mounting surface 1231 of the die 1230, the pressing end 1213 of the stripper 1212, and the pressing portion 1221 of the punch 1220, respectively, and as the die 1230 rises, it is pressed by the punch 1220 and the stripper 1212 to form the containing portion 1013 and the outer shell portion 1014 of the pouch sheet 1012, respectively.

[0089] That is, when the pressing portion 1221 of the punch 1220 is inserted into the forming groove 1232, a containing portion 1013 is formed in the pouch sheet 1012, and an outer shell portion 1014 is formed as the pressing end portion 1213 of the stripper 1212 and the mounting surface 1231 of the die 1230 pressurize the edge region of the pouch sheet 1012.

[0090] Meanwhile, the pouch forming apparatus 1000 according to an embodiment of the present invention may include a controller 1300. The controller 1300 may be configured to control the cooling unit 1100 and the forming unit 1200.

[0091] In addition, the control unit 1300 can adjust the transport speed of the transport unit, thereby controlling the speed at which the pouch sheet passes through the cooling chamber 1110, and thereby adjusting the degree of cooling of the pouch sheet.

[0092] In addition, the control unit 1300 can control the temperature control unit 1130 to adjust the temperature of the space 1113. That is, the cooling temperature of the cooling unit 1100 (the temperature of the space) can be adjusted.

[0093] In addition, the control unit 1300 can control the die moving unit 1240 to control the raising and lowering operations of the die 1230 .

[0094] In addition, the control unit 1300 may adjust the pressure applied to the pouch sheet 1012 from the punch 1220 and the stripper 1212 after the die 1230 rises and the pouch sheet 1012 comes into contact with the punch 1220 and the stripper 1212. That is, the control unit 1300 may be configured to adjust the depth of the receiving portion (forming depth) and the forming pressure.

[0095] In addition, the control unit 1300 may be configured to control the forming unit 1200 based on the cooling temperature (temperature of the space) of the cooling unit 1100 .

[0096] As an example, if the pouch sheet is sufficiently cooled while passing through the cooling chamber, the control unit 1300 may increase the forming depth by controlling the forming unit 1200, and if the pouch sheet is not sufficiently cooled while passing through the cooling chamber, the control unit 1300 may decrease the forming depth by controlling the forming unit 1200.

[0097] Referring to FIG. 6, when the forming operation of the pouch sheet 1012 is completed, the die 1230 is moved by the die moving part 1240 in a direction away from the punch 1220 and the stripper 1212, that is, downward to the initial position.

[0098] Referring to FIG. 7, after the forming process, a receiving portion 1013 is formed in the central region of the pouch sheet 1012, and an outer portion 1014 is formed in the edge region surrounding the receiving portion 1013.

[0099] Hereinafter, a pouch-forming method using the above-described pouch-forming apparatus 1000 will be described with reference to FIGS.

[0100] A pouch forming method according to one embodiment of the present invention is a pouch forming method using the pouch forming apparatus 1000, and includes a step of cooling the pouch sheet while passing through a cooling unit, and a step of forming a receiving portion in which an electrode assembly is received in the pouch sheet that has passed through the cooling unit.

[0101] As described above, the cooling unit may be configured to maintain the temperature of the cooling unit lower than room temperature when cooling the pouch sheet, or may be configured to maintain the temperature of the cooling unit at 5°C to 10°C when cooling the pouch sheet.

[0102] Specifically, the pouch forming method according to an embodiment of the present invention may include a cooling step, a mounting step, and a receiving portion forming step.

[0103] The cooling step is a step for cooling the pouch sheet 1010 using a cooling unit 1100.

[0104] The mounting step is a step in which the pouch sheet 1010 cooled by the cooling unit 1100 is mounted on the mounting surface 1231 of the die 1230 .

[0105] The pouch sheet 1010 passes through a cooling unit 1100 and is cooled, and then is supplied to a forming unit 1200 (M).

[0106] Also, the pouch sheet 1010 is supplied (M) to the space between the stripper 1212 and the punch 1220 and the die 1230 of the forming unit 1200 .

[0107] 3 and 4, the die 1230 is raised toward the pouch sheet 1010 by the die moving section 1240 , and the pouch sheet 1010 is attached to the attachment surface 1231 .

[0108] Referring to FIG. 5, the receiving portion forming step is a step for forming a receiving portion 1013 in a pouch sheet 1012 in which a battery assembly is to be received.

[0109] With the pouch sheet 1012 attached to the attachment surface 1231 of the die 1230 , the die 1230 is raised by the die moving part 1240 toward the punch 1220 and stripper 1212 .

[0110] As the die 1230 rises to a preset final position, the pouch sheet 1012 attached to the attachment surface 1231 of the die 1230 is pressed between the punch 1220 and the stripper 1212 .

[0111] At this time, as the die 1230 rises, the pressing portion 1221 of the punch 1220 is inserted into the forming groove 1232 formed in the die 1230 , and a containing portion 1013 is formed in a partial area of the pouch sheet 1012 positioned above the forming groove 1232 of the die 1230 .

[0112] The pouch forming method may include forming an outer periphery of a pouch sheet.

[0113] The outer shell forming step is a step of forming an outer shell 1014 on the edge region of the pouch sheet 1012 by using a stripper 1212 .

[0114] When the die 1230 rises to a position where it engages with the punch 1220 and the stripper 1212 during the container portion forming step, the pouch sheet 1012 has its edge regions pressed by the stripper 1212 to form an outer shell 1014, except for the central region pressed in by the punch 1220.

[0115] Here, the steps of forming the outer shell and the receiving portion are performed simultaneously.

[0116] In addition, when the receiving portion 1013 and the outer portion 1014 are formed in the pouch sheet 1012 , air existing between the forming groove 1232 and the pouch sheet 1012 is discharged to the outside of the die 1230 through the discharge passage 1234 .

[0117] Referring to FIG. 6, when the process of forming the receiving portion 1013 and the outer portion 1014 in the pouch sheet 1012 is completed, the die 1230 is lowered by the die moving portion 1240 and returned to its original position.

[0118] The above-described preferred embodiments of the present invention have been disclosed for illustrative purposes, and various modifications, changes, and additions may be made by those skilled in the art within the spirit and scope of the present invention, and such modifications, changes, and additions should be considered to fall within the scope of the following claims. [Industrial Applicability]

[0119] According to a pouch forming apparatus and a pouch forming method using the same related to one embodiment of the present invention, the amount of lubricant in the pouch sheet can be increased by pre-lowering the temperature of the pouch sheet prior to the pouch sheet forming process.
