Abstract
Description
[Technical field]
[0001] The present invention relates to a sunscreen or daily care composition comprising hexyl 2-[4-(diethylamino)-2-hydroxybenzoyl]benzoate (INCI hexyl diethylaminohydroxybenzoylbenzoate) and at least one water-soluble UVA filter, free of 2-hydroxy-4-methoxybenzophenone (INCI oxybenzone) and free of ethylhexyl-2-cyano-3,3-diphenyl-acrylate (INCI octocrylene). The present invention further relates to the use of said composition for reducing fabric staining and for promoting the washability of the sunscreen or daily care composition. [Background technology]
[0002] UV radiation causes harmful effects on human skin. Besides the acute effect of tanning the skin, UV radiation is also known to increase the risk of skin cancer. Furthermore, prolonged exposure to UV-A and UV-B light can cause phototoxic and photoallergic reactions in the skin and can accelerate skin aging.
[0003] To protect human skin from UV radiation, there are various ultraviolet protection UV filters (also called UV absorbers), including UV-A filters, UV-B filters and broadband filters. These filters are added to sunscreen or cosmetic compositions. UV filters can be either organic or inorganic, particulate or non-particulate compounds, all of which have a high absorption effect in the UV light range. In general, UV light can be divided into UV-A radiation and UV-B radiation. Depending on the position of the absorption maximum, UV filters can be divided into UV-A filters and UV-B filters. If a UV filter absorbs both UV-A and UV-B light, it is called a broadband absorber.
[0004] Since 2006, it has been recommended by the EU European Commission that all sunscreen or cosmetic compositions should have a UV-A protection factor that is at least one third of the declared sun protection factor (SPF), where sun protection factor here refers primarily to UV-B protection.
[0005] However, the UV filters known in the prior art that are used in sunscreen or cosmetic compositions have certain shortcomings. In particular, the shortcomings of certain UV filters are mentioned, which are often the subject of controversy due to health and environmental concerns, even though they are approved for use in sunscreen or cosmetic compositions. The controversial UV filters are, for example, octocrylene, oxybenzone, homosalate, ethylhexyl salicylate or ethylhexyl methoxycinnamate. Therefore, there is a need for a sunscreen or cosmetic composition for daily use that is effective in UV protection but does not contain the controversial UV filters.
[0006] Furthermore, sunscreen or cosmetic compositions can adhere to fabrics or textiles, causing staining of the fabrics, and considering that certain UV filters have low solubility in water, the resulting stains are difficult to remove during washing of the fabrics.
[0007] Therefore, it is desirable to reduce staining of fabrics and / or facilitate the cleanability of sunscreen compositions from fabrics without reducing UV-A protection.
[0008] EP2837407A2 discloses an octocrylene-free fragrance-stable cosmetic composition comprising one or more UV filters selected from triazine derivatives, titanium dioxide, butyl methoxydibenzoylmethane and / or diethylaminohydroxybenzoylhexyl benzoate, the composition being free of ethylhexyl salicylate, octocrylene, homomenthyl salicylate and ethylhexyl methoxycinnamate.
[0009] EP 3093008 A1 relates to a sunscreen composition which is octocrylene-free and comprises diethylaminohydroxybenzoylhexyl benzoate, phenylbenzimidazole sulfonic acid and one or more salicylates selected from ethylhexyl salicylate and homosalate.
[0010] EP3093007A1 discloses a cosmetic composition comprising a combination of UV filters of diethylaminohydroxybenzoylhexylbenzoate, ethylhexyl triazone and one or more salicylates selected from ethylhexyl salicylate and homosalate, which may further be free of oxybenzone, octocrylene and 4-methylbenzylidene camphor.
[0011] EP3093006 relates to an alcohol-containing, octocrylene-free sunscreen composition. The cosmetic composition comprises a combination of UV filters diethylaminohydroxybenzoylhexylbenzoate, ethylhexyl triazone and bis-ethylhexylphenol methoxyphenyl triazine, the composition comprising one or more alcohols.
[0012] EP 3195853 A1 discloses an octocrylene-free sunscreen composition, in which the cosmetic composition contains a UV filter combination of diethylaminohydroxybenzoylhexylbenzoate, diethylbutamidotriazone and ethylhexyltriazone.
[0013] EP 3351236 A1 relates to a cosmetic composition comprising a UV filter combination of diethylamino hydroxybenzoyl hexyl benzoate, butyl methoxydibenzoylmethane and a polyglycerol fatty acid ester, which is free of 4-methylbenzylidene camphor, oxybenzone, ethylhexyl methoxycinnamate, isoamyl p-methoxycinnamate and octocrylene.
[0014] US 2003 / 0161793 A1 discloses a topically applicable cosmetic / dermatological sunscreen composition that does not contain p-methylbenzylidene camphor but does contain at least one UV-blocking dibenzoylmethane compound and at least one UV-blocking amino-substituted 2-hydroxybenzophenone compound of structural formula (I).
[0015] DE 60022411 T2 discloses cosmetic compositions for topical application comprising at least one specific bis-resorcinyl triazine derivative and at least one UV filter containing at least two benzoazolyl groups per molecule.
[0016] EP3354253A2 describes a method of reducing fabric staining by incorporating diethylaminohydroxybenzoylhexyl benzoate into a cosmetic composition. Summary of the Invention [Problem to be solved by the invention]

[0055] [Figure 1] FIG. 1 shows the results of fabric staining measurements for Comparative Composition 1 and Composition 1. DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS
[0056] Before describing preferred embodiments of the present invention in detail, definitions that are important for understanding the present invention are provided.
[0057] As used herein and in the appended claims, the singular forms "a" and "an" also include the respective plurals, unless the context clearly dictates otherwise. In the context of the present invention, the terms "about" and "approximately" describe an interval of precision that a person skilled in the art would understand to still ensure the technical effect of the feature in question. This term typically indicates a deviation of ±20%, preferably ±15%, more preferably ±10%, and even more preferably ±5% from the indicated numerical value. It is understood that the term "comprises" is not limiting. For the purposes of the present invention, the term "consisting of" is considered to be a preferred embodiment of the term "comprises". When a group is defined hereinafter to include at least a certain number of embodiments, this also means to include a group that preferably consists only of these embodiments.
[0058] Moreover, terms such as "first," "second," "third," or "(i)," "(ii)," "(iii)," "(iv)," and the like in this specification and claims are used to distinguish between similar elements and not necessarily to describe an order or chronology. It is understood that the terms so used are interchangeable under appropriate circumstances and that the embodiments of the invention described herein are capable of operating in other orders than those described or illustrated herein.
[0059] As used herein, the term "free of" in the context that the composition of the invention does not contain a particular compound or group of compounds that may be combined in a collective name means that the composition does not contain said compound or group of compounds in an amount greater than 0.8% by weight relative to the total weight of the composition. Moreover, it is preferred that the composition according to the invention does not contain said compound or group of compounds in an amount greater than 0.5% by weight, and preferably the composition does not contain said compound or group of compounds at all. The same definition applies to "does not comprise".
[0060] The term "sunscreen composition" refers to any topical product that reflects and / or absorbs a certain portion of UV radiation. Thus, the term "sunscreen composition" is understood to include not only sunscreen compositions, but also any cosmetic composition that provides UV protection. The term "topical product" refers to a product that is applied to the skin, and may refer to, for example, a spray, a lotion, a cream, an oil, or a gel. The sunscreen composition may include one or more active agents, such as organic or inorganic UV filters, and other ingredients or additives, such as emulsifiers, emollients, viscosity modifiers, stabilizers, preservatives, or fragrances.
[0061] The term "daily care composition" refers to any topical product that reflects or absorbs a certain portion of UV radiation and is used as a daily care product for the human body, for example, the face, body or hair. Daily care compositions may contain one or more active agents, such as organic or inorganic UV filters, and other ingredients or additives, such as emulsifiers, emollients, viscosity modifiers, stabilizers, preservatives or fragrances.
[0062] As used herein, the term "sun protection factor (SPF)" refers to how well the skin is protected by a sunscreen composition, primarily from UV-B radiation. In particular, this index indicates how long protected skin can be exposed to the sun without sunburn compared to untreated skin. For example, if a sunscreen composition with an SPF of 15 is evenly applied to the skin of a person who normally burns after 10 minutes in the sun, the sunscreen will allow the person skilled in the art to stay in the sun 15 times longer. In other words, SPF 15 refers to the amount of sunscreen that is applied to the skin at 2 milligrams per square centimeter (mg / cm 2 ) and assuming a uniform thickness, this means that 1 / 15th of the tanning UV radiation reaches the skin.
[0063] The term "UV filter" as used herein refers to an organic or inorganic compound that can absorb or reflect UV radiation caused by sunlight. UV filters can be classified based on their UV protection curve as UV-A, UV-B or broadband filters. In the context of this application, broadband filters may be listed as UV-A filters, since they also provide UV-A protection. In other words, preferred UV-A filters also include broadband filters.
[0064] Furthermore, UV filters can be classified according to their solubility behavior, for example as water-soluble UV filters, oil-soluble UV filters or particulate UV filters.
[0065] Water-soluble UV filters have a solubility in water of at least 2% by weight, preferably at least 3% by weight, more preferably at least 5% by weight.
[0066] Particulate UV filters can be further divided into organic particulate UV filters and inorganic particulate UV filters. Organic particulate UV filters are based on organic compounds, while inorganic particulate UV filters are based on inorganic compounds, such as titanium dioxide. Particulate UV filters in sunscreen compositions are present in particulate form, since their solubility in the sunscreen composition, i.e. in the water and cosmetic oil contained therein, is less than 0.01% by weight, preferably less than 0.05% by weight. Preferably, particulate UV filters have a particle size D determined by light scattering of less than 2000nm, preferably less than 1000nm. N 50, D N 50 refers to the particle size value below which half the population is and above which half the population is, ie, the median value of the particle size volume distribution.
[0067] Hexyl 2-[4-(diethylamino)-2-hydroxybenzoyl]benzoate (INCI Diethylamino Hydroxybenzoyl Hexyl Benzoate) is an oil-soluble UV-A filter with an absorption maximum at 354 nm. Diethylamino Hydroxybenzoyl Hexyl Benzoate has excellent photostability for long-term protection of the skin and provides an effective shield against UV-A I and UV-A II radiation. It is sold under the trade name Uvinul® A Plus by BASF.
[0068] Ethylhexyl-2-cyano-3,3-diphenyl-acrylate (INCI Octocrylene) is an oil-soluble organic UV-B filter with an absorption maximum at 302 nm. It provides a broad range of UV-B absorbance to balance UV protection and is known to be an effective stabilizer for photolabile UV filters. Octocrylene is sold under the trade name Uvinul® N 539 T by BASF.
[0069] 2-Hydroxy-4-methoxybenzophenone (INCI Oxybenzone) absorbs UV-A and UV-B light and is therefore a so-called broad spectrum UV filter. Oxybenzone can be applied to sunscreen or daily care compositions in amounts of 1% to 6%. Furthermore, it is sold under the trade names Eusolex 4360, Escalol 567 and Neo-Helipan BB.
[0070] 2-Ethylhexyl-(2E)-3-(4-methoxyphenyl)acrylate (INCI Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate) is an odorless and colorless UV-B filter with an absorption maximum at 310 nm. It is a good solvent for other crystalline UV filters. Ethylhexyl methoxycinnamate is sold under the trade name Uvinul® MC 80 by BASF.
[0071] The term "paraben" refers to a class of preservatives used in cosmetic and pharmaceutical compositions. They are commonly used due to their bactericidal and fungicidal properties. The chemical structure of parabens is based on parahydroxybenzoates or esters of parahydroxybenzoic acid, such as methylparaben, ethylparaben, propylparaben, butylparaben, or heptylparaben.
[0072] The definition of "broad spectrum" protection (also called broad spectrum or broad-spectrum protection) is based on the "critical wavelength". For broad spectrum coverage, UV-B and UV-A protection must be provided. According to US requirements, a critical wavelength of at least 370 nm is required to achieve broad spectrum protection. Furthermore, it is recommended by the European Commission that all sunscreen or cosmetic compositions should have a UVA protection factor of at least one-third of the Sun Protection Factor (SPF) indicated, for example, if a sunscreen composition has an SPF of 30, the UVA protection factor must be at least 10.
[0073] The term "fabric staining" as used herein refers to the observation that sunscreen compositions, especially those that provide good UV-A protection, leave yellow stains on fabrics. This is undesirable because sunscreen compositions often come into contact with fabrics during or after application to human skin, resulting in staining being observed on the fabric. Fabric staining can be measured by L*a*b, as outlined in detail below.
[0074] The term "cleanability" as used herein describes to what extent fabric stains caused by a sunscreen composition can be removed from the fabric after a certain number of wash cycles. To evaluate cleanability, fabric staining is measured before and after one or more wash cycles. The wash cycles are carried out at a temperature of 30°C to 50°C using a commercial liquid wash gel. Typically, the difference in fabric staining after 1 to 3 wash cycles is determined.
[0075] Preferred embodiments of the sunscreen or daily care composition according to the present application and the use of said composition are described herein below. It is understood that the preferred embodiments of the present invention are preferred either alone or in combination with each other.
[0076] As indicated above, in one embodiment, the present invention provides a method for producing ... cellular membrane comprising: (i) Hexyl 2-[4-(diethylamino)-2-hydroxybenzoyl]benzoate (INCI Hexyl Diethylamino Hydroxybenzoyl Benzoate); and (ii) at least one water-soluble UVA filter; and is free of 2-hydroxy-4-methoxybenzophenone (INCI Oxybenzone) and ethylhexyl-2-cyano-3,3-diphenyl-acrylate (INCI Octocrylene).

[0129] In relation to the above preferred embodiments, it is understood that when the sunscreen or daily care composition comprises two or more additives, combinations of additives as defined above are also part of the present invention.

[0131] As indicated above, the present invention relates in another aspect to the use of a sunscreen or daily care composition as defined above, in particular as defined in the first and second embodiments, for reducing fabric contamination of the sunscreen or daily care composition.
[0132] The staining of fabric caused by the sunscreen composition is preferably measured by the so-called L*a*b method. This method allows the color difference between two samples to be determined based on a numerical value. The advantage of this method is that it is independent of the device used to measure color. Instead, the color difference can be determined based on the numerical values for different colors. As used herein, to determine the staining of fabric of a sunscreen composition, the color difference between the stain of the sunscreen composition on the fabric and the fabric alone is determined. Thus, the staining properties of various sunscreen compositions and their fabrics can be measured by comparing the color of the stain on the fabric with the color of the fabric alone. The smaller the color difference, the less staining of the fabric is observed. Similarly, the color difference between the stain of the sunscreen composition on the fabric and the fabric alone after one or more washing cycles can be determined to determine the possibility of reducing the staining of the fabric after washing, i.e., the washability. The color difference is expressed in absolute color coordinates and can be called delta Δ. First, the color of two samples is measured. The difference can then be calculated using the resulting colorimetric values, the CIE L*a*b coordinates. The L*a*b color space defined by the International Commission on Illumination (CIE) was modeled after the opponent color theory. This theory states that no two colors can be red and green at the same time, or yellow and blue at the same time. The total color difference between two samples is determined using the following formula: ΔE* = [ΔL*2 + Δa*2 + Δb*2]1 / 2
[0133] In this regard, L* denotes lightness, a* is the red / green coordinate, and b* is the yellow / blue coordinate. The delta values for L* (ΔL*), a* (Δa*), and b* (Δb*) can be positive or negative. The total difference, denoted ΔE*, is always positive. ΔL*(L*Sample1 - L*Sample2) = difference in lightness and darkness (+ is lighter, - is darker). Δa*(a*sample1 - a*sample2) = difference between red and green (+ is redder, - is greener). Δb*(b*sample1 - b*sample2) = difference between yellow and green (+ is yellowish, - is greenish). ΔE*=total color difference.
[0134] To determine the staining of the fabric according to the present invention, the color of the stain on the fabric is compared with the color of the fabric alone.Preferably, a white fabric is used.If the stain is only yellow, ΔE*≒Δb*, and the visibility of the stain of the sunscreen composition is represented by Δb*.Since the color of the stain of the sunscreen composition is typically yellow, for the purpose of the present invention, ΔE* is considered to be the same as Δb*.
[0135] In another aspect, the present invention relates to the use of a sunscreen or daily care composition as defined above, in particular as defined in the first and second embodiments, for facilitating the washability of the sunscreen or daily care composition from fabrics.
[0136] As used herein, washability refers to the degree to which a stain of a sunscreen composition on a fabric can be removed by washing. The washability, i.e., removability, of a stain of a sunscreen composition can be determined by determining the color difference of the stain by the L*a*b* method described above before and after one or more washing cycles. EXAMPLES
[0137] The present invention is further illustrated by the following examples.
[0138] example Method for producing sunscreen composition For each tested sunscreen composition, the ingredients of Part A and the ingredients of Part B as shown in Table 1 below were combined and each heated to 80° C., whereupon Part A was added to Part B with stirring and further homogenized. Phase C, if present, was premixed with an ultra turrax device and added to Phases A and B. The sunscreen compositions were then cooled to room temperature with stirring and the pH of each composition was adjusted to greater than 7.00.
[0139] All amounts referred to in the tables below refer to the respective amounts in weight percent relative to the total weight of the composition.
[0140] Sunscreen composition
[0141] [Table 1]
[0142] The calculated SPF for the comparative composition is 12.
[0143] The calculated SPF for Composition 1 is 17.
[0144] Sunscreen composition For each tested sunscreen composition, the ingredients of Part A and Part B as shown in Table 2 below were combined and heated to 80°C respectively, where Part A was added to Part B with stirring and further homogenized. Phase C, if present, was premixed with an ultra turrax device and added to Phases A and B. The sunscreen composition was subsequently cooled to room temperature, then Part D was added with stirring and finally Part E, if present, was added with stirring and the pH of each composition was adjusted to above 7.00.
[0145] [Table 2]
[0146] Measuring fabric contamination The staining of the fabric of the UV filter composition was measured by L*a*b as defined above. The measurements were carried out spectrophotometrically using the following equipment: Remission Spectrometer Datacolor SF 400 (illuminant D65, observer 10°).
[0147] The difference between the color of the stain of the UV filter composition on the white fabric and the color of the white fabric alone was determined according to the assumption that ΔE*=Δb* to determine the staining of the fabric. The smaller the color difference, the less the staining of the fabric.
[0148] Furthermore, the washability was determined by determining the difference between the color of the stain of the UV filter composition on the white fabric after one or three washing cycles and the color of the white fabric alone according to the assumption that ΔE*=Δb*. The smaller the color difference compared to the value obtained before washing, the more reduced the staining of the fabric, i.e. the better the washability of the sunscreen composition from the fabric.
[0149] To apply the UV filter composition to produce stains on white fabric, the UV filter composition was diluted in water or ethanol at a concentration of 10% by weight relative to the total weight of the diluted mixture. 2 ) is applied to a white fabric (WG 170±10, adjusted to a whiteness of WG 190±10 after washing) to obtain a stain.
[0150] To determine the washability, one or three wash cycles were performed in a washing machine using a temperature of 40° C. and Persil Universal Gel from Henkel (3 g for stain) for 20 minutes. Each fabric was washed separately.
[0151] The results for Comparative Composition 1 and Composition 1 are shown in Table 3 and FIG.
[0152] The results for Comparative Compositions 2 and 3 and Compositions 2 and 3 are shown in Table 4.
[0153] [Table 3]
[0154] [Table 4]
[0155] As can be seen from the above results, comparative composition 2, which contains only oil-soluble UVA filters, shows strong fabric staining. Composition 2, which contains DPDT instead of BMBDM, shows a significant reduction in fabric staining. Comparative composition 3, which contains Tinosorb S Lite Aqua as a water-dispersible UV filter instead of DPDT, shows that this UVA filter present in the water phase is not suitable for reducing fabric staining. Composition 3, which contains both DHHB and BMBDM and DPDT, shows a reduction in fabric staining.
[0156] In a further step, the following filter combinations were tested to show that not all UV filters present in the water phase are suitable for contributing to the reduction of fabric staining. Table 5 shows the test series of different UV filters present in the water and oil phases incorporated in the emulsion and their performance in reducing fabric staining.
[0157] [Table 5]
[0158] The test emulsion is prepared as follows: Heat parts A and B to 80°C with stirring. Add part A to B with stirring and homogenize. Add phase C, if present, premixed with an ultra turrax device. Cool it to room temperature. Add phase D, if present. Ensure the pH is above 7.
[0159] The results from the fabric staining tests are shown in Table 6.
[0160] [Table 6]
[0161] Test emulsion 1 contains oil-soluble UVA filters that cause fabric staining, which is not appreciated by consumers. In contrast, test emulsion 2 contains only UVA water-soluble filters and does not show fabric staining, but shows lower UVA protection than required (UVA-PF measurement is equal to 3.7 instead of the expected 5.7 (Table 5)). The combination of UV filters of the present invention, DHHB and DPDT (oil-soluble and water-soluble), results in reduced fabric staining in test emulsion 3 while maintaining UVA performance. In test emulsion 4, DPDT is replaced by Tinosorb S Lite Aqua, a water-dispersible UVA filter. There is no positive effect on fabric staining and washability.
[0162] Recovery measurement for photostability of TDSA Method for producing sunscreen composition For each tested sunscreen composition, the ingredients of Part A and the ingredients of Part B as shown in Table 7 below were combined and each heated to 80° C., whereupon Part A was added to Part B with stirring and further homogenized. Phase C, if present, was premixed with an ultra turrax device and added to Phases A and B. The sunscreen compositions were then cooled to room temperature with stirring and the pH of each composition was adjusted to greater than 7.00.
