The term "based on" is to be understood to mean "based at least in part on." The term "an embodiment" or "the embodiment" is to be understood to mean "at least one embodiment." The term "some embodiments" is to be understood to mean "at least some embodiments." The following specification may contain explicit and implicit definitions below.

[0014] 1 shows a schematic diagram of an exemplary environment 100 in which an embodiment of the present invention may be implemented. In the exemplary environment 100, a terminal device 110 has an application 120 installed thereon. A user 140 may interact with the application 120 through the terminal device 110 and / or an accessory device of the terminal device 110. The application 120 may be a content sharing application and may provide the user 140 with services related to multimedia content consumption, including viewing, commenting, retweeting, creating (e.g., taking and / or editing), publishing, etc. of multimedia content. In this specification, "multimedia content" may be content in various forms, including video, audio, images, image sets, text, etc.

[0015] 1, when active in application 120, terminal device 110 may present pages 150 of application 120 to user 140. Pages 150 may include various types of pages that application 120 may provide, including multimedia content submission pages, content creation pages, content editing pages, message pages, personal pages, mall pages, etc.

[0016] In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 communicates with the server 130 to provide services to the application 120. The terminal device 110 may be any kind of mobile, fixed or portable terminal, including a mobile phone, a desktop computer, a laptop computer, a notebook computer, a netbook computer, a tablet computer, a media computer, a multimedia tablet, a personal communication system (PCS) device, a personal navigation device, a personal digital assistant (PDA), an audio / video player, a digital camera / camcorder, a positioning device, a television receiver, a radio broadcast receiver, an e-book device, a game device or any combination thereof, including accessories and peripherals of these devices or any combination thereof. In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may also support any kind of interface to a user (e.g., "wearable" circuitry, etc.). The server 130 is any kind of computing system / server that can provide computing capabilities, including, but not limited to, a mainframe, an edge computing node, a computing device in a cloud environment, etc.

[0017] It should be understood that the structure and functionality of environment 100 is described for illustrative purposes only and is not intended to imply any limitation on the scope of the invention.

[0018] Conventionally, a user interface element such as a search icon used in an application to guide a user to search for an interesting multimedia content may be located at a specific position on a page. When a user intends to search for an interesting multimedia content, the user actively searches for and activates the user interface element, thereby causing the page for presenting the current multimedia content to be switched to a search page where the user can perform a search operation.

[0019] Generally, a search page is provided with a search box for allowing a user to input search keywords related to the multimedia content of interest. In addition, a search page is provided with a search recommendation word list. The search recommendation word list may include one or more search recommendation entries. These search recommendation entries may be determined by an application based on certain conditions. For example, the search recommendation phrases may be determined based on current hot events or topics. Also, for example, the search recommendation entries may be determined based on a user's preferences.

[0020] However, in the conventional solution, when a user wants to search for multimedia content that interests him / her, he / she needs to pause the currently playing multimedia content and switch to a search page, which makes the multimedia content viewing process not smooth and affects the user's application usage experience.

[0021] An embodiment of the present invention provides a solution for search recommendation, in which: determining whether a search box can be presented on a page; presenting the search box on the page if it is determined that the search box can be presented; determining search recommendation terms based on the multimedia content presented on the page, and presenting at least a part of the search recommendation terms in the search box. According to the method, the search recommendation terms are presented to the user based on the multimedia content that the user is interested in, so as to meet the personalized needs of the user, and allowing the user to search for the multimedia content that interests him / her without affecting the current viewing process, thereby bringing about a better user usage experience.

[0022] With continued reference to the drawings, several illustrative embodiments of the present invention will now be described.

[0023] 2 illustrates a flow chart of a process 200 for search recommendation according to some embodiments of the present invention. Process 200 may be implemented on terminal device 110. For ease of discussion, process 200 will be described with reference to environment 100 of FIG.

[0024] In box 210 , the terminal device 110 determines whether a search box can be presented on the page 150 of the application 120 .

[0025] In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 can determine a first length of one or more navigation tabs presented on the page 150 in a predetermined direction and can determine a second length of a search box in the predetermined direction. The one or more navigation tabs and the search box can be arranged side by side in the predetermined direction. The terminal device 110 can determine that the search box can be presented on the page 150 when it is determined that the sum of the first length and the second length does not exceed the overall length of the page 150 in the predetermined direction.

[0026] In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 presents a search icon on the page 150 when it is determined that the sum of the first length and the second length exceeds the width of the page 150 .

[0027] In some embodiments, the predetermined direction may be the width direction of the display interface of the terminal device 110 .

[0028] In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 determines the first length based on a display mode associated with the display of one or more navigation tabs, which may be a display mode related to the size of a display font, such as a large mode or an elder mode.

[0029] In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may determine based on the number of one or more navigation tabs. The number of navigation tabs in the application 120 may be changed based on the needs of the service provider during the course of use of the user 140.

[0030] In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may determine based on the dissimilarized navigation tabs other than one or more navigation tabs presented on the current page 150. As the user 140 uses the application 120, the dissimilarized tabs may be increased based on the needs of the service provider. The dissimilarized navigation tabs may be displayed differently from the one or more navigation tabs presented on the page 150, for example, having a different font type and size, or including a different number and type of characters or symbols.

[0031] In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may determine the second length based on a threshold number of characters that are allowed to be submitted in a search box.

[0032] In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 determines the overall length based on display parameters of a display interface of the terminal device 110. For example, the display parameters may include a width of the display interface.

[0033] In box 220, the terminal device 110 presents a search box on the page 150 if it determines that a search box can be presented.

[0034] In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 can present a search box at the top of the page 150. It should be appreciated that the terminal device 110 can present the search box at the bottom of the page 150 based on the needs of the service provider.

[0035] In box 230 , the terminal device 110 determines search suggestion terms based on the multimedia content presented on the page 150 .

[0036] In some implementations, when content tabs related to the multimedia content presented on the page 150 are obtained, the terminal device 110 can determine search recommendation terms based on the content tabs.

[0037] In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may determine default characters as the search suggested terms if a content tab related to the multimedia content presented on the page 150 is not obtained.

[0038] At box 240, the terminal device 110 presents at least a portion of the suggested search terms in a search box.

[0039] In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 can determine whether the number of characters included in the search recommendation term is less than a threshold number. If the number of characters is determined to be less than the threshold number, the terminal device 110 can present the search recommendation term in the search box.

[0040] In some embodiments, when the number of characters is equal to or greater than a threshold number, the terminal device 110 displays symbols in the search box to indicate some of the characters included in the search suggested term and another portion of the characters omitted in the search suggested term.

[0041] In some embodiments, the total length of a symbol for indicating a portion of characters included in the search suggested words and another portion of characters omitted in the search suggested words corresponds to the length of the threshold number of characters.

[0042] In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 presents search suggestion terms in the center of the search box.

[0043] In some embodiments, when a switch occurs from another multimedia content to another multimedia content on the page 150, the terminal device 110 can present a switch process from another search suggestion term related to the other multimedia content to a search suggestion term in the search box.

[0044] In some embodiments, when switching from another multimedia content to another multimedia content is associated with the same navigation tab, the terminal device 110 can present the process of switching from another search suggestion term to a search suggestion term in an upward scroll mode or a downward scroll mode.

[0045] In some embodiments, when the switching from another multimedia content to another multimedia content is associated with a different navigation tab, the terminal device 110 may present the switching process from another search suggestion term to another search suggestion term in a fade-in / fade-out mode.

[0046] In some implementations, the suggested search terms correspond to preferred suggested search terms on a search page presented in application 120 .

[0047] To better understand an exemplary embodiment of the presentation of search suggestion terms, the following is described with reference to an exemplary user interface.

[0048] The terminal device can determine whether a search box can be presented on a page of the application. If the search box can be presented, the terminal device presents the search box on the page. For example, the terminal device can determine by comparing the sum of a first length of a page of a navigation tab in the page in a predetermined direction and a second length of the search box in the predetermined direction with the total length of the page in the predetermined direction.

[0049] 3 illustrates an example page presenting a search box in an application 120. In the page 300, navigation tabs 301-304 are disposed at the top of the page 300 in a width direction H of the page 300. The terminal device 110 may determine a first length 320 of the navigation tabs 301-304 in the width direction H. A second length 330 of the search box 305 in the width direction H may be determined based on a threshold number of characters allowed to be presented in the search box.

[0050] When the terminal device 110 determines that the sum of the first length 320 and the second length 330 does not exceed the width 340 of the page 300, the terminal device 110 presents a search box 305 on the page 300 as shown in Fig. 3. The search box 305 may be arranged alongside the navigation tabs 301 to 304 at the top of the page 300 in the width direction H.

[0051] It should be understood that the arrangement of the navigation tabs 301-304 and the search box 305 shown in Figure 3 is for illustrative purposes only and is not intended to limit the present invention. If desired, the navigation tabs 301-304 and the search box 305 may be located in other locations on the page 300.

[0052] In some cases, the terminal device may not be able to present a search box on a page, for example, when the sum of the first length of the navigation tabs in the page in a predetermined direction and the second length of the search box in the predetermined direction exceeds the total length of the page in the predetermined direction, the search box is not presented.

[0053] 4A and 4B show such pages 400A and 400B. In FIG. 4A, when the display mode of the terminal device 110 is adjusted, for example, when the display mode is adjusted to a large mode or elder mode state, the font of the navigation tabs 401 to 404 becomes larger, and accordingly, the first length 410 in the width direction H of the page 400A of the navigation tabs 401 to 404 becomes significantly larger. Therefore, the total length 430 of the first length 410 in the width direction H of the page 400A of the navigation tabs 401 to 404 and the second length 420 in the width direction H of the page 400A of the search box 405 exceeds the total length 440 in the width direction H of the page 400A. In such a case, the search box 405 cannot be presented on the page 400A. A graphical interface element for guiding a search, such as a search icon 406, is presented on the page 400A.

[0054] In FIG. 4B, a dissimilar navigation tab 407 is presented on a page 400B. The dissimilar navigation tab has a different display form from the navigation tabs 402 to 404 presented on the page 400B, so that a first length 410 in the width direction H of the page 400B of the dissimilar navigation tab 407 and the navigation tabs 402 to 404 becomes significantly large. In such a case, a total length 460 of a first length 450 in the width direction H of the page 400B of the dissimilar navigation tab 407 and the navigation tabs 402 to 404 and a first length 420 in the width direction H of the page 400B of the search box 405 exceeds a total length 440 in the width direction H of the page 400B. In such a case, the search box 405 cannot be presented on the page 400B. A graphical interface element for guiding a search, such as a search icon 406, is presented on the page 400B.

[0055] The terminal device further determines search suggestion terms based on the multimedia content presented on the page and presents at least a portion of the search suggestion terms in the search box.

[0056] Continuing to refer to FIG. 3, a multimedia content 310 currently being played on a page 300 is presented. The terminal device 110 can determine search recommendation terms related to the multimedia content 310. For example, the terminal device 110 can obtain one or more content tabs related to the multimedia content 310 and determine search recommendation terms based on the content tabs.

[0057] When it is determined that the search recommended term is presented in the search box 305, the terminal device 110 can determine whether the number of characters included in the search recommended term is less than the threshold number of characters allowed to be presented in the search box 305. If the number of characters included in the search recommended term is less than the threshold number, the characters included in the search recommended term, i.e., the complete search recommended term, is presented in the search box 305. In FIG. 3, assuming that the threshold number of characters allowed to be presented in the search box 305 is 5, the number of characters included in the determined search recommended term “remote socializing” is 4, so the search recommended term “remote socializing” is presented in the search box 305.

[0058] In some cases, the terminal device 110 displays only a portion of the determined search recommendation terms in the search box of the page, for example, when the number of characters included in the search recommendation terms is equal to or exceeds a threshold number of characters allowed to be presented in the search box.

[0059] FIG. 5A shows such a page 500A. In FIG. 5A, the page 500A presents a currently playing multimedia content 510. The terminal device 110 can determine a search recommendation term related to the multimedia content 510, such as "multimedia entertainment". Assuming that the number of characters included in the search recommendation term is 5 and the threshold number of characters allowed to be presented in the search box 505 is 5, the number of characters included in the search recommendation term is equal to the threshold number of characters allowed to be presented in the search box 505.

[0060] In such a case, the terminal device 110 may display some characters of the suggested search term in the search box 505, and may display other characters of the omitted suggested search term with an ellipsis. For example, in FIG. 5A, the suggested search term presented in the search box 505 of the page 500A is "multimedia entertainment...".

[0061] In some cases, the terminal device may display default characters in the search box of a page. FIG. 5B illustrates such a page. In FIG. 5B, a currently playing multimedia content 520 is presented on a page 500B. If the terminal device 110 cannot obtain a valid content tab associated with the multimedia content 520, the terminal device 110 may display default characters as a search suggested term in the search box 505 of the page 500B. For example, in FIG. 5B, the search suggested term is "search."

[0062] In the exemplary page already described above, the search suggestion terms may be presented in the search box in a center-justified form. It should be understood that the search suggestion terms may also be presented in the search box in other forms, such as a right-justified form. The presentation forms shown in the drawings should not be considered as limitations of the present invention.

[0063] In some situations, after viewing or listening to the multimedia content presented on a page of an application, the user performs a multimedia content switching operation. For example, the user slides up and down or slides left and right on the page to switch the multimedia content presented on the page. In the process of the user sliding the page, as the multimedia content presented on the page switches, the search recommendation terms presented in the search box also change, that is, the search recommendation terms determined based on the currently presented multimedia content are switched to the search recommendation terms determined based on the multimedia content presented after the switching.

[0064] The process of switching the search recommendation terms may be presented with a predetermined visual effect, which may be associated with navigation tabs corresponding to the currently played multimedia content and the switched multimedia content.

[0065] 6A, 6B and 7A, 7B illustrate such a switching process.

[0066] 6A and 6B, a page 600A of FIG. 6A presents multimedia content 610. The multimedia content 610 corresponds to a navigation tab 604 selected by a user. Search recommendation terms 602 determined based on the multimedia content 610 presented on the page 600A are presented in a search box 605.

[0067] When applying the method, if a user performs an upward or downward slide operation without changing a selected navigation tab to switch multimedia content on a page, the multimedia content before the switch and the multimedia content after the switch correspond to the same navigation tab.

[0068] As shown in Figures 6A and 6B, when a user performs a downward slide operation 601 to switch the multimedia content 610 presented on page 600A to the multimedia content 620 presented on page 600B shown in Figure 6B, the multimedia content 610 and the multimedia content 620 correspond to the same navigation tab 604. In this case, the switch from the search recommendation term 602 presented in the search box 605 of page 600A in Figure 6A to the search recommendation 603 presented in the search box 605 of page 600B in Figure 6B is presented in a scroll switching form. The scroll direction of the search recommendation term presented by the scroll switching of the search recommendation term corresponds to the slide direction of the slide operation performed by the user on the page.

[0069] 7A and 7B, multimedia content 710 is presented on a page 700A in FIG. 7A. The multimedia content 710 corresponds to a navigation tab 704 selected by a user. Search recommendation terms 702 determined based on the multimedia content 710 presented on the page 700A are presented in a search box 705.

[0070] When applied, when the user performs a left-sliding operation or a right-sliding operation, the selected navigation tab will also be switched, i.e., the selected navigation tab will be switched from the current navigation tab to the adjacent navigation tab corresponding to the user's sliding direction. In this scenario, the multimedia content before switching and the multimedia content after switching correspond to different navigation tabs.

[0071] As shown in Figures 7A and 7B, when a user performs a left slide operation 701 to switch from multimedia content 710 presented on page 700A to multimedia content 720 presented on page 700B shown in Figure 7B, multimedia content 710 and multimedia content 720 correspond to different navigation tabs, i.e., multimedia content 710 corresponds to navigation tab 704, and multimedia content 720 corresponds to navigation tab 703.

[0072] In this case, the switch from the search recommendation words 702 presented in the search box 705 of the page 700A in Fig. 7A to the search recommendation words 703 presented in the search box 705 of the page 700B in Fig. 7B may be presented in a fade-in / fade-out switching form. The fade-in / fade-out direction of the search recommendation words presented by the fade-in / fade-out switching of the search recommendation words corresponds to the slide direction of the slide operation performed by the user on the page.

[0073] In some examples, pages 300, 400A, 400B, 500A, 500B, 600A, 600B, 700A, and 700B described in conjunction with Figures 3, 4A, 4B, 5A, 5B, 6A, 6B, 7A, and 7B comprise pages in a multimedia sharing application. In some examples, pages 300, 400A, 400B, 500A, 500B, 600A, 600B, 700A, and 700B described in conjunction with Figures 3, 4A, 4B, 5A, 5B, 6A, 6B, 7A, and 7B comprise pages in a video sharing application.

[0074] According to the solution proposed by the present invention, search recommendation terms can be presented to a user based on the multimedia content that the user is interested in, thereby meeting the user's personalized needs, and enabling the user to search for the multimedia content that interests them without affecting the current viewing process, thereby bringing about a better user experience.

[0075] 8 shows a schematic structural block diagram of an apparatus 800 for search recommendation according to a particular embodiment of the present invention. The apparatus 800 can be implemented as or included in the terminal device 110. Each module / component in the apparatus 800 can be implemented by hardware, software, firmware, or any combination thereof.

[0076] As shown in the figure, the apparatus 800 comprises a first determination module 810 for determining whether a search box may be presented on a page. The apparatus 800 further comprises a first presenting module 820 for presenting the search box on the page when it is determined that the search box may be presented.
