Abstract
Description
[Technical field]
[0001] The present invention relates to a method for manufacturing a battery pack and a battery pack manufactured by the method. The battery pack of the present invention is characterized in that an adhesive layer including a thermally conductive adhesive is formed between a battery module housed therein and an upper cover, thereby improving stability of the battery module.
[0002] This application claims the benefit of priority based on Korean Patent Application No. 10-2022-0166529 dated December 2, 2022, and all contents disclosed in the documents of said Korean patent application are incorporated herein by reference. [Background technology]
[0003] Currently, types of secondary batteries that are widely used include lithium ion batteries, lithium polymer batteries, nickel cadmium batteries, nickel metal hydride batteries, and nickel zinc batteries. The operating voltage of such a unit secondary battery cell, i.e., a unit battery cell, is about 2.5V to 4.5V. Therefore, when a higher output voltage is required, a battery pack may be configured by connecting a plurality of battery cells in series. Also, a battery pack may be configured by connecting a number of battery cells in parallel depending on the charge / discharge capacity required for the battery pack. Therefore, the number of battery cells included in the battery pack may be variously set depending on the required output voltage or charge / discharge capacity.
[0004] Meanwhile, when configuring a battery pack by connecting a plurality of battery cells in series / parallel, a common method is to first configure a battery module including at least one battery cell, and then use this at least one battery module to add other components to configure the battery pack.
[0005] A conventional battery module generally includes at least one cell stack including battery cells, and a box-shaped metal housing structure, i.e., a module frame, that houses the at least one cell stack. This conventional battery module structure has problems in that the weight and volume of the module frame itself reduce the energy density of the entire battery pack, and increase the weight of the entire battery pack.
[0006] Due to the above-mentioned problems, a conventional method was attempted in which the module frame configuration that surrounds and protects the cell stack was eliminated, and instead, a method was attempted in which a bus bar frame and end plates were attached to the front and rear sides of the cell stack where the electrode leads were formed, to store and arrange the cell stack in a battery pack.
[0007] FIG. 1 is a perspective view of a battery module including a cell stack 10, a bus bar frame 3, and an end plate 2, with the module frame removed.
[0008] 1, the module frame that surrounds and protects the cell stack 10 is removed, so each battery cell 1 included in the cell stack 10 is not properly fixed. Therefore, when mounting the battery module in a battery pack, it is necessary to first fix the cell stack 10 that is exposed to the outside.
[0009] FIG. 2 shows a battery pack equipped with the module frame of FIG. 1. As shown in FIG. 2(a), the battery pack includes a pack case 20 having a plurality of battery modules mounted therein. The pack case 20 surrounds the sides of each mounted battery module with a side wall 40 and covers the upper part of the battery module with an upper cover 30 to protect the battery module from the outside. FIG. 2(b) shows a cross section of the pack case 20 of FIG. 2(a) and a portion of the battery module mounted therein. The lower part of the battery module is supported by a base plate 50 corresponding to the bottom of the pack case 20. At this time, a resin 60 may be interposed between the battery module and the base plate 50 to prevent the cell stack 10 included in the battery module from shaking. The resin 60 serves to fix each battery cell 1 of the cell stack 10 included in the battery module to the base plate 50. In addition, the resin 60 may have a thermal conductive property, and thus may transfer high temperature heat generated in the cell stack 10 to the base plate 50 and discharge the heat to the outside. [0035] The present invention relates to a method for manufacturing a battery pack and a battery pack manufactured by the method. The battery pack of the present invention is characterized in that an upper adhesive layer L1 containing a thermally conductive adhesive A is formed between a battery module M accommodated therein and an upper cover 200 to improve stability of the battery module M. FIGS. 3 to 6 relate to a method for manufacturing a battery pack of the present invention, FIGS. 7 to 8 relate to a battery pack according to a first embodiment of the present invention, FIGS. 9 to 10 relate to a battery pack according to a second embodiment of the present invention, FIG. 11 relate to a battery pack according to a third embodiment of the present invention, FIGS. 12 to 13 relate to a battery pack according to a fourth embodiment of the present invention, FIG. 14 relate to a battery pack according to a fifth embodiment of the present invention, and FIG. 15 relate to a battery pack according to a sixth embodiment of the present invention.
[0036] Hereinafter, a manufacturing process of the battery pack of the present invention will be described step by step with reference to the flow chart of FIG. 3, and each embodiment of the battery pack of the present invention will be described with reference to FIGS.
[0037] <Battery pack manufacturing method>
[0038] FIG. 3 is a flow chart showing each step of a manufacturing process of a battery pack according to the present invention.
[0039] Each step will be described below with reference to the above flow chart.
[0040] <Downhill Step (S1)>
[0041] This is a step in which the battery modules M are mounted in each module area within the pack case 100.
[0042] FIG. 4 shows a pack case 100 and an upper cover 200 included in the battery pack of the present invention.
[0043] The battery module M of the present invention has a configuration in which the module frame is eliminated from the battery module M shown in FIG. 1, and includes a cell stack S in which battery cells C are stacked.
[0044] The battery module M having the above-mentioned configuration is mounted in a pack case 100 as shown in FIG.
[0045] The pack case 100 includes a base plate 130, a side wall 110 coupled along an edge of the base plate 130, and a plurality of partition walls 120 that divide an internal space of the base plate 130.
[0046] The partition walls 120 divide the inner space of the pack case 100 to form a plurality of module regions, and each battery module M is seated in the module region one by one. In this case, the base plate 130 may support a lower portion of each battery module M.
[0047] A lower adhesive layer L2 may be formed by applying an adhesive to each module region on the base plate 130. Thus, the battery module M seated in the module region may be coupled with the adhesive of the lower adhesive layer L2 to be fixed to the base plate 130. At this time, the adhesive is directly coupled with each battery cell C included in the cell stack S of the battery module M.
[0048] More specifically, the pressure-sensitive adhesive may include a thermally conductive pressure-sensitive adhesive A.
[0049] The thermally conductive adhesive A is bonded to each battery cell C included in the cell stack S of the battery module M so as to be in close contact with the battery cell C, and can transfer heat from the battery cell C to the base plate 130 and dissipate it.
[0050] The battery modules M mounted in the pack case 100 may be kept separated from each other by the partition walls 120 .
[0051] <Combining step (S2)>
[0052] This is a step of coupling the upper cover 200 to the pack case 100 so as to cover the upper part of the battery module M.
[0053] FIG. 5 shows the pack case 100 and the upper cover 200 of FIG. 4 joined together.
[0054] In the battery pack, the pack case 100 protects the sides and bottom of the battery module M, and the top cover 200 protects the top of the battery module M.
[0055] The manufacturing method of the battery pack of the present invention may further include, before the coupling step (S2), a step of mounting a block pad P on an upper portion of each battery module M mounted in the module area.
[0056] The block pad P has a window frame shape with an opening at the center, and can be seated by covering the upper edge of the battery module M.
[0057] The block pad P will be described again with reference to the drawings in relation to a battery pack according to a fourth embodiment, which will be described later.
[0058] <Injection step (S3)>
[0059] This is a step of injecting a thermally conductive adhesive A onto the upper part of the battery module M accommodated in the pack case 100.
[0060] The battery pack of the present invention is characterized in that either the upper cover 200 or the pack case 100 includes an injection hole h1.
[0061] Referring to FIG. 5, a plurality of injection holes h1 are formed in the upper cover 200. As shown in FIG.
[0062] The thermally conductive adhesive A is a thermally conductive adhesive for cooling, and may be provided as a thermal resin.
[0063] The thermally conductive adhesive A may be injected into the module area inside the battery pack through the injection hole h1.
[0064] FIG. 6 is a partial cross-sectional view showing a process of injecting the thermally conductive adhesive A into the battery pack of FIG.
[0065] The thermally conductive adhesive A is stored in a separate storage tank or the like and is discharged through a separate nozzle N communicating with the storage tank.
[0066] 6, the injection holes h1 of the present invention are formed at positions of the upper cover 200 corresponding to the module regions between the partition walls 120. The nozzles N are simultaneously inserted into the injection holes h1 in a number corresponding to the number of the injection holes h1, and discharge the thermally conductive adhesive A through the injection holes h1 to inject the thermally conductive adhesive A into the space between the upper cover 200 and the battery module M. The thermally conductive adhesive A filling the space between the upper cover 200 and the battery module M forms an upper adhesive layer L1, thereby fixing the cell stack S of the battery module M to the upper cover 200.
[0067] The manufacturing method of the battery pack of the present invention may further include a step of sealing the injection hole h1 after the step of injecting the thermally conductive adhesive A.
[0068] The sealing is performed to prevent the thermally conductive adhesive A from leaking out again through the injection hole h1.
[0069] The sealing may be performed by attaching a tape-shaped sealing member to the injection hole h1, and the sealing member is preferably watertight, in order to prevent the adhesive strength of the sealing member attached to the upper cover 200 where the injection hole h1 is located from being weakened by the thermally conductive adhesive A.
[0070] <Battery pack>
[0071] (First embodiment) Fig. 7 shows a battery pack according to a first embodiment of the present invention. More specifically, Fig. 7 is a perspective view of the battery pack with a part cut away so that the internal configuration can be seen, and Fig. 8 shows a cross section of a part of the battery pack of Fig. 7.
[0072] The battery pack according to the first embodiment of the present invention includes a pack case 100 including a module area in which a battery module M is mounted, and an upper cover 200 coupled to the pack case 100 to cover an upper portion of the battery module M.
[0073] The pack case 100 includes a base plate 130, a side wall 110 coupled along an edge of the base plate 130, and a plurality of partition walls 120 partitioning an internal space of the base plate 130. The partition walls 120 partition the internal space of the pack case 100 to form a plurality of module regions. In this case, the module regions generally have a rectangular shape according to the shape of the battery module M.
[0074] In the battery pack of the present invention shown in FIG.
[0075] The upper cover 200 includes a plurality of injection holes h1 corresponding to each module area. Preferably, at least one injection hole h1 can communicate with each module area.
[0076] In the battery pack of the present invention shown in FIG. 7, an upper adhesive layer L1 including a thermally conductive adhesive A is formed between the battery module M accommodated in the pack case 100 and the upper cover 200.
[0077] Referring to FIG. 8, a lower adhesive layer L2 for fixing the battery module M to the base plate 130 is formed at the lower part of the battery module M seated in the module area, and an upper adhesive layer L1 for fixing the battery module M to the upper cover 200 is formed at the upper part of the battery module M. Therefore, the battery module M can be stably fixed inside the battery pack by the upper adhesive layer L1 and the lower adhesive layer L2 including the thermally conductive adhesive A attached at the top and bottom. In addition, the battery module M can safely withstand external vibrations and impacts thanks to the upper adhesive layer L1. In addition, even if the battery module M generates heat and generates high temperature heat, the heat can be transferred to the base plate 130 through the lower adhesive layer L2 and released to the outside, and the heat can be transferred to the upper cover 200 through the upper adhesive layer L1 and released to the outside. That is, the internal heat can be more effectively dissipated, thereby preventing the battery module M from being severely deteriorated.
[0078] Second embodiment FIG. 9 shows a part of a battery pack according to a second embodiment of the present invention, and FIG. 10 shows a process of injecting a thermally conductive adhesive A into the battery pack of FIG.
[0079] The upper cover 200 included in the battery pack of the present invention may further include exhaust holes h2 that correspond to each module area and are opened so that air inside the battery pack can be exhausted to the outside.
[0080] 9, the exhaust hole h2 should be formed at a certain distance from the injection hole h1 in order to prevent the thermally conductive adhesive A injected through the injection hole h1 from escaping through the exhaust hole h2 before forming an adhesive layer. For example, when the injection hole h1 is formed at a position of the upper cover 200 corresponding to the center of the module area, the exhaust hole h2 may be formed at a position of the upper cover 200 corresponding to the edge of the module area. Conversely, when the injection hole h1 is formed at a position of the upper cover 200 corresponding to the edge of the module area, the exhaust hole h2 may be formed at a position of the upper cover 200 corresponding to the center of the module area.
[0081] The discharge hole h2 serves as a passage for venting the internal air so that the thermally conductive adhesive A can be smoothly injected through the injection hole h1, and also serves to confirm whether the thermally conductive adhesive A has been injected to fill the space between the battery module M and the upper cover 200. When the thermally conductive adhesive A is injected into the injection hole h1 through the nozzle N, it is difficult to know when to stop the injection because the internal condition cannot be known. Therefore, a problem may occur in which the thermally conductive adhesive A overflows again through the injection hole h1.
[0082] However, when the exhaust hole h2 is formed, as shown in FIG. 10, it can be confirmed by the naked eye whether the thermally conductive adhesive A is fully injected into the inside through the exhaust hole h2.
[0083] Third embodiment The battery pack of the present invention may further include a sealant Sm for sealing the injection hole h1.
[0084] FIG. 11 shows a part of a battery pack according to a third embodiment of the present invention.
[0085] When the injection of the thermally conductive adhesive A is completed, the battery pack of the present invention may be sealed by attaching a sealant Sm to the injection hole h1.
[0086] The sealing material Sm is preferably watertight in order to prevent the adhesive strength of the sealing material Sm from being weakened by the thermally conductive adhesive A.
[0087] When the upper cover 200 has an exhaust hole h2 formed therein, the sealant Sm may also be used to seal the exhaust hole h2.
[0088] (Fourth embodiment) The battery pack of the present invention may further include a block pad P between the upper cover 200 and the battery module M accommodated in each module area.
[0089] FIG. 12 shows a pack case 100 included in a battery pack according to a fourth embodiment of the present invention, and FIG. 13 shows that a thermally conductive adhesive A is applied onto a battery module M housed in the pack case 100 of FIG. 12.
[0090] 12, a window-shaped block pad P with an opening at the center is attached to the battery module M accommodated in each module region. Specifically, the block pad P is interposed between the battery module M and the upper cover 200 when the pack case 100 and the upper cover 200 are combined, and seals the gap between the upper cover 200 and the battery module M.
[0091] The block pad P has an opening at the center. Therefore, when a thermally conductive adhesive A is injected onto a battery module M including the block pad P to form an upper adhesive layer L1, the adhesive layer is formed only on the opening of the block pad P as shown in Fig. 13. That is, the block pad P serves to seal between the upper cover 200 and the battery module M and prevent the adhesive layer from leaking onto leads or bus bars of each battery cell C included in the cell stack S of the battery module M.
[0092] Fifth embodiment The injection hole h1 and the discharge hole h2 of the present invention are not particularly limited in their positions as long as they are located on the upper cover 200 corresponding to the module area.
[0093] FIG. 14 shows a battery pack according to a fifth embodiment of the present invention.
[0094] As shown in FIG. 14, the injection hole h1 and the discharge hole h2 are formed at diagonal positions on any one of the module regions.
[0095] Sixth embodiment In the battery pack of the present invention, one of the top cover 200 and the pack case 100 includes a plurality of injection holes h1 corresponding to each module region. That is, in the battery pack of the present invention, the injection holes h1 may be formed not only in the top cover 200 but also in the pack case 100.
[0096] FIG. 15 shows a battery pack according to a sixth embodiment of the present invention.
[0097] The injection holes h1 are formed in the sidewall 110 corresponding to each of the module regions. At this time, the injection holes h1 are formed along the sidewall 110 at predetermined intervals.
[0098] As shown in FIG. 15, the upper cover 200 may further include exhaust holes h2 corresponding to each module area for exhausting air inside the battery pack to the outside.
[0099] The present invention has been described in more detail above with reference to the drawings and embodiments, etc. However, the configurations described in the drawings or embodiments, etc. in this specification are merely one embodiment of the present invention and do not fully represent the technical ideas of the present invention, and therefore there may be various equivalents and modifications that can replace them at the time of filing this application.
