[0040] <Mechanochemical reaction> Hereinafter, the process of hydrogenating the fused ring compound containing a benzene ring by a mechanochemical reaction will be described.
[0041] The pulverizer may be any device that pulverizes the fused ring compound containing a benzene ring, and increases the activity of the compound, the rhodium metal complex, and the diboron by imparting mechanical energy to them, thereby causing a mechanochemical reaction.
[0042] Examples of the grinding machine include a ball mill, a bead mill, a rod mill, a jet mill, and a rocking mill. Among these, a ball mill is preferred because of its excellent efficiency in the mechanochemical reaction.
[0043] The rhodium metal complex is used as a catalyst. Examples of the rhodium metal complex include Rh(PPh3)3Cl, [Rh(COD)Cl]2, [Rh(C2H4)Cl]2, [Rh(COD)OH]2, and Rh(COD)2BF4. Among these, [Rh(COD)OH]2, [Rh(COD)Cl]2, and Rh(COD)2BF4 are preferred. These can be used alone or in combination of two or more.
[0044] The amount of the rhodium metal complex used is not particularly limited, and is, for example, preferably 0.001 equivalents or more and 1.0 equivalents or less, more preferably 0.01 equivalents or more and 1.0 equivalents or less, and even more preferably 0.04 equivalents or more and 1.0 equivalents or less, relative to 1 equivalent of the fused ring compound.
[0045] The diboron is used as a hydrogen equivalent. Examples of the diboron include B2(OH)4, B2(pin)2 (bis(pinacolato)diboron), B2(cat)2 (bis(catecholato)diboron), and B2(neop)2 (bis(neopentylglycolato)diboron). Of these, B2(OH)4 and B2(pin)2 are preferred. These can be used alone or in combination of two or more.
[0046] The amount of diboron used is not particularly limited, and is, for example, preferably 1 equivalent or more and 30 equivalents or less, more preferably 2 equivalents or more and 25 equivalents or less, and even more preferably 3 equivalents or more and 20 equivalents or less, relative to 1 equivalent of the fused ring compound.
[0047] In the mechanochemical reaction, it is preferable to use a solvent-based additive together with the fused ring compound, the rhodium metal complex, and diboron. By using the solvent-based additive, the mechanochemical reaction in this embodiment can be accelerated and the yield of the product can be improved.
[0048] Examples of the solvent-based additives include methanol, ethanol, propanol, butanol, pentanol, and ethylene glycol. Of these, methanol, ethanol, propanol, and butanol are preferred. These may be used alone or in combination of two or more.
[0049] The amount of the solvent-based additive used is not particularly limited and can be set appropriately.
[0050] The reaction temperature and reaction time of the mechanochemical reaction are not particularly limited, and may be generally carried out under mild conditions for a short reaction time.
[0051] The reaction temperature is preferably 30° C. or higher, more preferably 50° C. or higher, and even more preferably 90° C. or higher. The reaction temperature is preferably 200° C. or lower, and more preferably 150° C. or lower. The preferred combination of the upper and lower limits of the reaction temperature can be appropriately set from the above preferred ranges.
[0052] The reaction time is preferably from 20 minutes to 300 minutes, more preferably from 30 minutes to 200 minutes.
[0053] The conditions for pulverization by the pulverizer are not particularly limited and may be appropriately set depending on the type of pulverizer used. For example, when a ball mill is used as the pulverizer, the rotation speed of the reaction vessel is usually set as high as possible, but is not particularly limited, and the rotation speed of the reaction vessel is preferably 1000 rpm or more and 3500 rpm or less.
[0054] The mechanochemical reaction causes a hydrogenation reaction of the benzene ring contained in the fused ring compound to proceed, resulting in the production of a hydrogenated fused ring compound. Note that, in this specification, hydrogenation of the benzene ring includes both partial hydrogenation and complete hydrogenation.
