Background Art

[0003] In the prior art, a connector typically includes a housing, a plurality of terminals, and a terminal pin holding plate. The plurality of terminals are provided in the housing. An opening is formed in the housing so that a plurality of terminal pins can extend, and the terminal pin holding plate is installed in the housing and covers the opening of the housing. A plurality of holding holes are formed in the terminal pin holding plate, and the pins of the plurality of terminals pass through the plurality of holding holes and are respectively held in the plurality of holding holes. The terminal pin holding plate is also formed with positioning posts that fit with the positioning holes of the circuit board and are suitable for guiding the pins of the plurality of terminals to be inserted into the plurality of pin sockets of the circuit board.

[0004] In the prior art, an elastic buckle and a limiting post separated from the elastic buckle are formed on the terminal pin holding plate. The elastic buckle is fixed to the snap slot of the housing to lock the terminal pin holding plate to the housing so that the terminal pin holding plate cannot be separated from the housing in the vertical direction parallel to the terminal pins. The elastic buckle comprises a cylindrical portion connected to the plate-like body, which is divided into a plurality of cantilever portions by at least one axial slot formed in the cylindrical portion, and a locking portion formed at the end of the cantilever portion and projecting outward along the radial direction of the cylindrical portion. The cylindrical portion is fitted to pass through the limiting hole in the bottom wall of the connector housing, and the locking portion and plate-like body are fitted to lock the terminal pin retaining plate to the housing by contacting the inside and outside of the bottom wall of the housing, respectively, and the diameter of the cylindrical portion is smaller than the diameter of the limiting hole so that the terminal pin retaining plate can float relative to the housing along the radial direction of the limiting hole after it has been locked to the housing.

[0035] According to another general concept of the present invention, a connector is provided. The connector comprises a housing having a bottom wall, terminals provided in the housing and having pins for electrical connection to a circuit board, and a terminal pin retaining plate that locks to the bottom wall of the housing. An opening is formed in the bottom wall of the housing, the terminal pin retaining plate covers the opening, the pins of the terminals extend from the opening and pass through retaining holes in the terminal pin retaining plate, a limiting hole is also formed in the bottom wall of the housing, the terminal pin retaining plate is locked to the housing by an elastic buckle passing through the limiting hole and is floating relative to the housing along the radial direction of the limiting hole.

[0036] According to another general concept of the present invention, a connector assembly is provided. The connector assembly comprises the connector and a circuit board electrically connected to the pins of the connector's terminals. Pin sockets and positioning holes are formed in the circuit board, the terminal pins are inserted into the pin sockets of the circuit board, and the positioning columns of the terminal pin retaining plate are inserted into the positioning holes of the circuit board.

[0037] Figure 1 shows an illustrative perspective view from below of a connector according to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention. Figure 2 shows an illustrative exploded view from below of a connector according to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention. Figure 3 shows an illustrative perspective view from below of the terminal pin retaining plate 2 of the connector according to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention. Figure 4 shows an illustrative perspective view from above of the terminal pin retaining plate 2 of the connector according to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention. Figure 5 shows a longitudinal cross-sectional view of the connector according to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention. Figure 6 shows a longitudinal cross-sectional view of the connector according to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention, in which the terminal pin retaining plate 2 is not installed in the connector housing 1.

[0038] As shown in Figures 1 to 6, an exemplary embodiment of the present invention discloses a terminal pin retaining plate 2. The terminal pin retaining plate 2 includes a plate-like body 20 and an elastic buckle 22. The plate-like body 20 has retaining holes 21 for holding the pins 3a of the terminals 3 of the connector. The elastic buckle 22 includes a cylindrical portion 220 and a locking portion 221. The cylindrical portion 220 is connected to the plate-like body 20. At least one axial slot 222 extending along the axial direction of the cylindrical portion 220 is formed in the cylindrical portion 220, and the cylindrical portion 220 is divided into a plurality of cantilever portions 223 by the at least one axial slot 222 formed in the cylindrical portion 220. A locking portion 221 is formed at the end of the cantilever portion 223 and protrudes outward along the radial direction of the cylindrical portion 220.

[0039] As shown in Figures 1 to 6, in the illustrated embodiment, the cylindrical portion 220 is fitted to pass through the limiting hole 102 in the bottom wall 10 of the connector housing 1. The locking portion 221 and the plate-like body 20 are suitable for locking the terminal pin retaining plate 2 to the housing 1 by pressing against the inside and outside of the bottom wall 10 of the housing 1, respectively. The diameter of the cylindrical portion 220 is smaller than the diameter of the limiting hole 102 so that the terminal pin retaining plate 2 can float relative to the housing 1 along the radial direction of the limiting hole 102 after it has been locked to the housing 1. The radial floating of the terminal pin retaining plate 2 is equal to the difference between the diameter of the limiting hole 102 and the diameter of the cylindrical portion 220. In this way, positioning errors of the housing 1 can be absorbed and it becomes easier to insert the pins 3a of the connector terminals 3 into the pin sockets of the circuit board (not shown).

[0040] As shown in Figures 1 to 6, in the illustrated embodiment, the elastic buckle 22 not only has a locking portion 221 suitable for locking to the housing 1 so that the terminal pin retaining plate 2 can be locked to the housing 1 via the elastic buckle 22 and, after being locked to the housing 1, can float along the radial direction of the limiting hole 102 relative to the housing 1, but also has a cylindrical portion 220 that fits into the limiting hole 102 of the housing 1 with a gap. For this reason, in the present invention, there is no need to separately form a limiting post on the terminal pin retaining plate 2, nor is there a need to form a limiting hole in the housing 1 for fitting with the limiting post. Accordingly, the structure of the terminal pin retaining plate 2 and the housing 1 is simplified by the present invention, the difficulty of assembly is reduced, and manufacturing costs are reduced.

[0041] As shown in Figures 1 to 6, in the illustrated embodiment, a single axial slot 222 is formed in the cylindrical portion 220, and the single axial slot 222 divides the cylindrical portion 220 into two radially opposite cantilever portions 223.

[0042] As shown in Figures 1 to 6, in the illustrated embodiment, the locking portion 221 has an upper and lower side on opposite sides in the axial direction of the cylindrical portion 220. A guide inclined surface 221a is formed on the upper side of the locking portion 221, and the guide inclined surface 221a is inclined with respect to the axial direction of the cylindrical portion 220 to guide the cylindrical portion 220 into the limiting hole 102. A locking surface 221b perpendicular to the axial direction of the cylindrical portion 220 is formed on the lower side of the locking portion 221. The locking surface 221b is used to abut axially against the inside of the bottom wall 10 of the housing 1.

[0043] As shown in Figures 1 to 6, in the illustrated embodiment, the root of the cylindrical portion 220 connected to the plate-like body 20 is a solid cylinder, so the extended length of the axial slot 222 along the axial direction of the cylindrical portion 220 is smaller than the axial length of the cylindrical portion 220.

[0044] As shown in Figures 1 to 6, in the illustrated embodiment, the retaining holes 21 include a plurality of first retaining holes 21' for each of the pins 3a of a plurality of first terminals 31, and a plurality of second retaining holes 21'' for each of the pins 3a of a plurality of second terminals 32. The plurality of first retaining holes 21' are located in a first region of the plate-like body 20, and the plurality of second retaining holes 21'' are located in a second region of the plate-like body 20, separated from the first region.

[0045] As shown in Figures 1 to 6, in the illustrated embodiment, the plate-like body 20 has two ends on opposite sides in the longitudinal direction and an upper and lower surface on opposite sides in the thickness direction. Elastic buckles 22 are formed at both ends of the plate-like body 20, and the elastic buckles 22 are located on the upper surface of the plate-like body 20.

[0046] As shown in Figures 1 to 6, in the illustrated embodiment, the terminal pin holding plate 2 further includes positioning pins 23, which are formed on the lower surface of the plate-like body 20 and are suitable for fitting into positioning holes in the circuit board and guiding the pins 3a of the terminal 3 to be inserted into the pin sockets of the circuit board.

[0047] As shown in Figures 1 to 6, in the illustrated embodiment, the elastic buckle 22 is formed on the upper surface of the plate-like body 20, and the cylindrical portion 220 of the elastic buckle 22 is coaxial with the positioning pin 23. However, the present invention is not limited to the embodiment shown in Figures 1 to 6, and for example, the cylindrical portion 220 of the elastic buckle 22 may be axially offset from the positioning pin 23.

[0048] As shown in Figures 1 to 6, in the illustrated embodiment, the terminal pin retaining plate 2 is an integrally injection-molded part. This can reduce manufacturing costs.

[0049] As shown in Figures 1 to 6, another exemplary embodiment of the present invention also discloses a connector. The connector includes a housing 1, terminals 3, and the aforementioned terminal pin retaining plate 2. The housing 1 has a bottom wall 10. The terminals 3 are provided in the housing 1 and have pins 3a for electrical connection to a circuit board. The terminal pin retaining plate 2 is locked to the bottom wall 10 of the housing 1. An opening 101 is formed in the bottom wall 10 of the housing 1, and the terminal pin retaining plate 2 covers the opening 101.
