Abstract
Description
[Technical Field]
[0001] The present invention relates to skin cleansing compositions, and in particular to facial cleansing compositions that are particularly useful and effective in removing makeup. [Background technology]
[0002] People enjoy using cosmetics, especially on the face and other exposed areas of the body, to achieve various benefits, such as evening out skin tone, smoothing age-related fine lines, brightening, and sun protection. Furthermore, makeup products such as lipstick, foundation, and mascara are used to beautify the face according to personal preferences. These products contain a variety of ingredients, including particles such as pigments, inorganic particles, powders, and sunscreens; oil-based ingredients such as organic sunscreens, emollients, and solvents; water-soluble ingredients such as humectants and polymers; and other skin care actives such as vitamins and anti-aging actives. These leave-on cosmetics and makeup products are formulated for long-lasting wear on the skin. These products are advertised as maintaining their efficacy on the skin, remaining stable over extended periods of use, e.g., 8-12 hours, and not smudging, smudging, or running when exposed to changing external conditions, such as sweating, sunlight, air pollution, or dry environmental conditions, such as heated or air-conditioned rooms. On the one hand, such products must be long-lasting on the skin, but on the other hand, consumers must be able to easily remove such leave-on cosmetic / make-up products by simply using a simple, safe and mild wash-off makeup remover product, without the need for excessive mechanical friction. Summary of the Invention [Problem to be solved by the invention]
[0003] The most commonly used skin cleansing products contain a combination of synthetic surfactants and soap (often referred to as soap-synthetic detergent compositions), which emulsify oils and fine particles to provide excellent cleansing effects. However, such compositions are often found to be insufficient in terms of facial makeup removal efficiency. The present inventors have found that better makeup removal effects are achieved when the composition is formulated with a combination of synthetic surfactants (excluding soap) and free fatty acids. However, such compositions, often referred to as gel-cream products, which contain a high amount of water and free fatty acids, do not have the desired rheological properties, i.e., the desired feel / viscosity, during use. The product needs to have a certain degree of viscosity so that it can be easily applied to the face and used for cleansing without over-rinsing or wasting product. Furthermore, the composition has been found to be insufficient in terms of formulation stability. The present inventors have found that this problem can be solved by including a specific polymer, i.e., a cross-linked acrylate copolymer with a narrow pH range, which allows the composition to achieve not only the desired formulation stability but also the desired high viscosity. Furthermore, the composition has been found to be stable under various temperature conditions.
[0004] Therefore, an object of the present invention is to provide a facial cleansing composition that has a high makeup removing effect.
[0005] Yet another object of the present invention is to provide a highly effective makeup-removing cleansing composition that is stable over long periods of storage and at various temperature conditions.
[0006] It is yet another object of the present invention to formulate a makeup removal product that is highly effective, stable over time and at various temperature conditions, and provided in a desirable high viscosity for ease of application and use. [Means for solving the problem]
[0007] The present invention provides (i) 1 to 25% by weight of a synthetic surfactant; (ii) 0.1 to 10 wt. % free fatty acids; (iii) 0.1 to 2.5 wt. % of a crosslinked acrylate copolymer thickener; (iv) 0.1 to 1 wt. % alkali; (iv) 40 to 70% by weight of water A makeup remover composition comprising: the composition has a pH in the range of 6.2 to 6.8; The makeup remover composition has a viscosity in the range of 15,000 to 35,000 mPa·s. [0009] The topical compositions of the present invention are intended for use in personal care or cosmetic applications and may also be referred to as personal care compositions or cosmetic compositions. As used herein, "personal care composition" is meant to include compositions for topical application, i.e., application to the external surface of human skin and / or hair. Such compositions may be classified as leave-on or wash-off, and include products applied to the human body for appearance improvement, cleansing, odor control, or general beauty. The compositions of the present invention are preferably wash-type cleansing compositions containing synthetic surfactants.
[0010] As used herein, "skin" is meant to include the skin of the face and body parts (e.g., neck, arms, hands, feet and scalp), which are exposed areas to which people tend to apply leave-on cosmetic compositions, especially makeup compositions.
[0011] The compositions of the present invention are so-called wash-off or rinse-off cleansing compositions. These compositions typically involve diluting the composition with water, applying it to a topical surface, such as the face, and rinsing it off with copious amounts of water after a few minutes. The cleansing compositions of the present invention are in liquid form, with viscosities ranging from 15,000 to 35,000 cps (or millipascal seconds, mPa·s), preferably from 15,000 to 25,000 cps (or mPa·s), and more preferably from 16,000 to 22,000 cps (or mPa·s). The compositions are preferably Newtonian fluids. Product viscosity is measured at 25±2°C using a Brookfield viscometer equipped with an RV6 spindle at 20 rpm (30-60 seconds, preferably 30 seconds).
[0012] The compositions of the present invention comprise a surfactant selected from one or more of anionic surfactants, amphoteric surfactants, and nonionic surfactants. Preferably, the surfactant is selected from one or both of anionic surfactants and amphoteric surfactants, and most preferably a combination of both.
[0013] The anionic surfactant is preferably selected from alkyl ether sulfates, primary alkyl sulfates, secondary alkyl sulfonates, alkyl benzene sulfonates, or ethoxylated alkyl sulfates. Sodium lauryl ether sulfate (SLES) is particularly preferred. The SLES used in the present invention typically has 1 to 3 ethoxylate (EO) groups. SLES is preferably present in an amount of 3 to 14%, preferably 6 to 12%, by dry weight of the composition. SLES is available as a 30% aqueous solution. Another surfactant that may be included in the present invention is cocoamide monoethanolamine (CMEA). CMEA is preferably present in an amount of 1 to 3% by weight of the composition. Alkyl polyglucosides may also be present in the composition, preferably those having a carbon chain length of C6 to C6. 16のものである .
[0014] Another useful surfactant for inclusion in the liquid cleansing compositions of the present invention is an amphoteric surfactant, preferably a betaine surfactant, more preferably an alkylamidopropyl betaine surfactant, such as cocamidopropyl betaine. In a preferred embodiment, the composition comprises 0.1 to 5 wt. %, preferably 0.5 to 4 wt. %, more preferably 1 to 3 wt. % of the betaine surfactant.
[0015] Nonionic surfactants for inclusion in the liquid cleansing compositions of the present invention are preferably polyoxyethylene sorbitan alkyl esters (sold as Tween surfactants), fatty alcohol ethoxylates (sold as Brij surfactants), alkylphenol ethoxylates (sold as Triton surfactants), fatty ethoxylates (sold as Myrj surfactants), and alkyl polyglucosides (sold as Plantacare surfactants). The total amount of surfactants included in the compositions of the present invention is preferably 5 to 15% by weight of the composition, more preferably 7 to 15% by weight.
[0016] The compositions of the present invention contain 0.1 to 10% by weight of free fatty acids. By free fatty acids, we mean the amount of fatty acids present in the composition, excluding fatty acids that may have been converted to soap due to the inclusion of alkali. The free fatty acids are preferably present in an amount of 0.1 to 6% by weight of the composition, more preferably 4 to 6% by weight. The free fatty acids preferably include C10 to C16 fatty acids, more preferably C12 to C14 fatty acids. With respect to the amount of alkali present in the compositions of the present invention, the amount of soap produced in situ as a result is up to 1% by weight of the composition, preferably in the range of 0.1 to 0.5% by weight.
[0017] The compositions of the present invention contain a thickening agent that is a crosslinked acrylate copolymer. This is a liquid acrylic rheology modifier designed to suspend, stabilize, and thicken surfactant-based personal cleansing products and soap-based cleansing systems. A particularly preferred copolymer for use in the compositions of the present invention is Lubrizol's Carbopol AquaSF-1 acrylic emulsion polymer. This is particularly useful in formulations containing high levels of surfactant. This is an alkali-swellable acrylic emulsion polymer. The thickening agent is present at 0.1 to 2.5% by weight of the composition, preferably 0.2 to 2.4% by weight. The compositions of the present invention are prepared by incorporating an alkali. The alkali is included so that the pH of the composition is carefully adjusted to a range of 6.2 to 6.8. The pH of the composition is measured at 25°C using a calibrated pH meter.
[0018] It has been observed that, outside this pH range, the composition of the present invention does not exhibit the desired viscosity. At a pH of 6.2 or below, the viscosity decreases to an unacceptable level. This composition, which is a skin cleansing composition, is most often used to remove facial makeup. In doing so, the foam generated by dilution may come into contact with mucous membranes such as the eyes and nose, causing irritation. Therefore, for such applications, it is preferable that the pH be close to 7, preferably higher than 6.2. It has been observed that, at a pH above 6.8, the viscosity of the composition of the present invention decreases dramatically. Therefore, it is important to carefully add the desired amount of alkali to adjust the pH to the range of 6.2 to 6.8.
[0019] The alkali added to achieve this can be one or more of sodium hydroxide, potassium hydroxide, or triethanolamine, preferably potassium hydroxide. Depending on the alkali or combination of alkalis used, it can be added in an amount of 0.1 to 10% by weight, preferably 0.1 to 2% by weight. When potassium hydroxide is used, it is preferably used in an amount of 0.1 to 1% by weight, more preferably 0.4 to 0.6% by weight, based on the dry weight of the composition.
[0020] The compositions of the present invention may contain a humectant, typically a polyhydric alcohol. Preferably, the humectant is at least one of propylene glycol, dipropylene glycol, polypropylene glycol, polyethylene glycol, sorbitol, hydroxypropyl sorbitol, hexylene glycol, 1,3-butylene glycol, isoprene glycol, 1,3-propanediol, pentylene glycol, hexylene glycol, 1,2,6-hexanetriol, glycerol, ethoxylated glycerol, and propoxylated glycerol. Preferred humectants are selected from one or more of glycerin, 1,3-butylene glycol, propylene glycol, 1,3-propanediol, pentylene glycol, hexylene glycol, and sorbitol. Glycerol is the most preferred humectant. The amount of humectant is preferably 0.1 to 20% by weight of the composition, more preferably 5 to 15% by weight.
[0021] The compositions of the present invention are thick liquids having the viscosity ranges described above. Water is present in an amount of 40 to 70% by weight of the composition, preferably 40 to 65% by weight, more preferably 50 to 65% by weight.
[0022] The compositions of the present invention may also include other known ingredients such as electrolytes, fragrances, pigments, preservatives, emollients and sunscreens.
[0023] The present invention will now be illustrated by the following examples. [Example]
[0024] Example A.1: Make-up removal efficacy of a composition according to the invention and a control sample The composition according to the invention (Example 1) is shown in Table 1. The composition of a control sample not according to the invention (Example A) is shown in Table 2.
[0025] Table 1: Example 1: [Table 1]
[0026] The pH of the composition was 6.4 and the viscosity was 26,000.
[0027] Table 2: Example A [Table 2]
[0028] The pH of the composition was 9.2 and the viscosity was 70,000.
[0029] Two compositions (Example 1 and Example A) were tested for makeup removal efficacy. The method used to measure efficacy was as follows:
[0030] This study was designed to evaluate the cleansing and makeup removal (MUR) efficacy of the test products. In vitro evaluation techniques were used for the evaluation. The skin samples used in this study were artificial skin (substrates) that mimicked human skin. They were engineered to have similar topography, pH, critical surface tension, chemical reactivity, and ionic strength to human skin. To mimic real-life conditions, the in vitro skin substrates were exposed to an automobile exhaust chamber.
[0031] The presence of make-up was visualized as the color of the skin surface, and the effectiveness of the wash-off activity was determined by the reduction or removal of make-up by assessing the presence or absence of a white tint.
[0032] Image assessment correlated with visual appearance and was based on gray-tone assessment using pixel configuration. Analysis was performed using standard software published by the NIH, ImageJ*.
[0033] Measurement of cleansing / MUR efficacy of test products: Step 1: Skin sample preparation: In vitro skin samples were cut to the appropriate shape and size.
[0034] Step 2: Image 1: A digital image was taken of the skin sample on a white background.
[0035] Step 3: Make-up application: A standard foundation product was applied evenly to the skin samples, which was then left for 10-15 minutes before other make-up products such as kajal and lipstick were applied on top.
[0036] Step 4: Image 2: A digital image was taken of the skin sample on a white background.
[0037] Step 5: Rinse: In vitro skin samples were pre-wetted, and a predetermined amount of test product was applied to the entire surface of the sample. Water was then added. The entire surface was rubbed horizontally in a straight line with uniform pressure for five strokes. The surface was then rinsed with running deionized water for 60 seconds.
[0038] Step 6: Drying of skin samples: The in vitro skin samples were dried for 15 minutes at controlled temperature and humidity (25±5°C, 50±10% RH).
[0039] Step 7: Image 3: A digital image was taken of the skin sample on a white background.
[0040] The image data (images 1, 2 and 3) were sent to the software and the mean and standard deviation of the selected evaluation areas were calculated using the following formulas:
[0041]
number
[0042] In this case
number
[0043] It was observed that the sample of Example 1 appeared to spread evenly and easily on the hand compared to the sample of Example A.
[0044] Makeup removal efficacy (% cleansing) is summarized in Table 3 below.
[0045] Table 3
[0046] [Table 3]
[0047] The p-value for the data in Example 1 was <0.001 compared to the control.
[0048] Effect of pH on sample viscosity: The composition of Example 1 was prepared at various pH values by varying the amount of alkali used. The viscosity of the samples was measured according to the method described above. The data is summarized in Table 4 below.
[0049] Table 4: [Table 4]
[0050] The data in Table 4 above indicates that the optimum pH for the present composition is in the range of 6.2 to 6.8. Below this range, viscosity decreases slightly. Furthermore, use at such a low pH range is not desirable because it is not very skin-friendly. Above the desired pH range, viscosity decreases dramatically.
[0051] The data in Table 4 shows that pH affected viscosity even though the amount of crosslinked acrylate copolymer was constant (1.95 wt%) in all of these compositions in Table 4 above.
[0052] Additionally, additional compositions according to the invention (Example 2) and outside the invention (Example B) were prepared and are shown in Tables 5 and 6 below.
[0053] Table 5: Example 2 [Table 5]
[0054] The pH of the composition was about 6.8 and the viscosity was about 18,450 cps (or mPa·s).
[0055] Table 6: Example B [Table 6]
[0056] The pH of the composition was about 7.8 and the viscosity was about 8390 cps (or mPa·s).
