[0001] The present disclosure relates to a facial cleanser, particularly an oil-based cleansing balm containing a natural or natural-derived wax as a structuring agent.
Background Art
[0002] Many consumers desire a facial cleanser that gently cleanses the skin, leaving it feeling smooth like silk, while removing excess oil, impurities, makeup, sunscreen, and other skincare products.
[0003] One product form that can achieve these benefits is a cleansing balm. Cleansing balms are oil-based product forms that can generally be used alone or in combination with conventional liquid, micellar, or solid facial cleansers to help remove dirt and oil without overly drying the skin. Cleansing balms are typically sold in tub-like jars and ideally are a creamy, homogeneous soft solid at room temperature. Consumers use either an implement or their hand to scoop up a portion of the balm and then massage it onto the skin, melting the creamy texture of the balm into an oil. The user then adds warm water to emulsify the oil and rinse away the skincare products, impurities, and excess oil, leaving the consumer's skin clean and moisturized.
[0004] To achieve a unique consistency, cleansing balms generally contain a structuring agent. The structuring agent helps provide the hardness and texture of a creamy soft solid and generally maintains physical stability throughout the life of the product, including transport, handling, and storage under non-climate-controlled conditions. Current products can use polymeric structuring agents that can include polyethylene, petroleum-derived components (e.g., paraffin, isoparaffin, petrolatum), and / or polyethylene glycol (PEG) components.
[0005] However, some consumers prefer products containing natural or naturally derived structuring agents. Many natural waxes are not ideal or suitable for blending with high levels of oils to create a cleansing balm that has a consumer-acceptable feel, is stable at high and low temperatures, and has appropriate hardness throughout the composition. [Overview of the project] [Problems that the invention aims to solve]
[0006] Therefore, there is a need for a phase-stable, homogeneous, oil-based, soft solid cleansing balm containing one or more natural or naturally derived structuring agents. [Means for solving the problem]
[0007] A soft solid cleansing balm composition comprising: (a) more than 50% of a skin emollient having a melting point of less than 40°C, which is a natural or naturally derived skin emollient; (b) an emulsifier; and (c) a combination of about 8% to about 28% of a wax structuring agent, comprising: (i) one or more first ester waxes having a melting point of at least 55°C, preferably at least about 60°C; (ii) one or more second ester waxes having a melting point of at least 45°C; and (iii) optionally, one or more fatty alcohols in about 0.2% to about 3%, wherein the fatty alcohols are solid at 25°C, the cleansing balm is anhydrous, and the cleansing balm composition is formulated without synthetic waxes.
[0008] A soft solid cleansing balm composition comprising (a) a natural or naturally derived emollient that is liquid at 25°C, (b) an emulsifier, (c) a naturally derived wax blend comprising at least two ester waxes having a melting point of at least 45°C, and optionally one or more fatty alcohols, wherein the fatty alcohols are solid at 25°C, the cleansing balm is anhydrous, the cleansing balm composition is formulated without polyethylene, the composition has an average hardness of more than 50 gf and less than 350 gf, the cleansing balm has a skin-to-internal hardness ratio of more than 0.60 and less than 2.0, and the composition has an oil-binding capacity of at least 65%.
[0009] A cleansing balm composition comprising (a) a natural or naturally derived emollient that is liquid at 25°C, (b) a nonionic emulsifier, and (c) a naturally derived wax blend comprising one or more ester waxes including (i) C18-36 triglycerides, (ii) tribehenin, and (iii) jojoba esters, trilaurin, shea butter, beeswax, polyglyceryl-3 beeswax, or a combination thereof, wherein the cleansing balm is anhydrous and the cleansing balm composition is formulated without polyethylene and silicone oil. [Modes for carrying out the invention]
[0010] Anhydrous oil-based cleansing balms can effectively remove makeup, including water-resistant mascara, sunscreen, and other skincare products, as well as impurities. However, if improperly formulated, these products can leave the user's skin feeling greasy and dirty instead of clean, moisturized, and silky smooth. In addition, cleansing balms need to have the appropriate hardness and texture so that consumers can easily scoop them out of the jar without the composition becoming lumpy or runny. Cleansing balms must not undergo phase separation throughout the product's shelf life, including during transport, handling, and long-term storage in facilities where climate is not controlled.
[0011] The appropriate concentration of structuring agents, such as wax structuring agents, can help provide the composition with desired product performance, texture, hardness, and stability, and / or otherwise suspend any dispersed solid or liquid within the composition. Traditionally, cleansing balms have used synthetic or petroleum-based waxes, including polyethylene, as structuring agents. However, many consumers prefer skincare products formulated without petroleum-derived ingredients and containing natural or naturally derived structuring agents, and finding natural or naturally derived waxes that produce the appropriate hardness with a crystalline structure throughout the balm is a significant challenge.
[0012] For example, compositions containing polyethylene wax and triglycerides and ester oils have minimal interactions. This is because the waxes and oils all have straight carbon chains without any complex bends caused by double bonds or additional functional groups such as esters, which limits intermolecular forces. Potential interactions between emollients and natural or naturally derived waxes can be far more complex.
[0013] In some cases, it may be preferable to have natural or naturally derived emollients and structuring agents. However, the more natural or naturally derived the emollient and wax are, the more complex the interaction between them often becomes, and different molecular rearrangements may occur during crystallization. Such rearrangements result in different crystalline material properties such as hardness, viscoelasticity, and oil encapsulation efficiency. Intermolecular forces such as van der Waals forces, hydrogen bonds, and London dispersion forces can play a role in the cocrystallization of waxes.
[0014] Specifically, when ester waxes are used, this interaction and pleomorphism can create cleansing balms that appear acceptable to consumers on the surface but are significantly softer and more viscous than their appearance suggests, making them unacceptable to consumers. These same compositions may have lower oil absorption, creating large depressions in the product after the consumer has used it once, which are filled with oil. Conversely, some combinations of naturally derived emollients and structuring agents can result in cleansing balms with a desirable appearance, but they are excessively hard. Excessively hard cleansing balms require extra force from the consumer to scoop them out of the jar. This results in a fractured surface where oil visibly separates from the composition, resulting in undesirable clumps of product when spread on the skin, in contrast to a soft, smooth composition.
[0015] Cleansing balms in which natural structuring agents crystallize in the presence of natural emollients, producing both desirable hardness and oil-binding ability, are difficult to create and predict due to the diverse and complex chemical structures of naturally derived ingredients. A cleansing balm containing about 6% to 17% of ester waxes with a melting point of at least about 55°C, about 3% to 17% of ester waxes with a melting point of at least about 45°C, and about 0.01% to 1.5% of fatty alcohols or fatty alcohol-containing waxes has been found to produce a stable cleansing balm preferred by consumers.
[0016] The cleansing balm may be physically stable. The composition is physically stable if, by visual detection, there is no phase separation, including oil leaching onto the surface, and the composition has an oil-binding capacity of more than 65% according to the oil-binding capacity test method described herein. As used herein, “visual detection” means that a human observer can visually distinguish, with the naked eye (excluding standard corrective lenses fitted to compensate for nearsightedness, farsightedness, or astigmatism, or other corrective vision) whether the product has separated into two distinctly different layers in a 2-ounce clear glass jar under illumination at least equivalent to that of a standard 100-watt incandescent light bulb at 30 cm. Oil leaching may sometimes be observed directly as droplets on the surface of the product, but it may also be observed as oil leaching into intentionally created depressions on the surface of the product that are approximately 1 mm deep and 3 mm long. If the composition appears stable upon visual detection, it may also be considered physically stable and may have an oil-binding capacity of more than 65% according to the oil-binding capacity test method described herein.
[0017] In some cases, the composition may be formulated without, substantially without, or without silicone. In some cases, the composition may be formulated without, substantially without, or without certain waxes, such as polyethylene and other petroleum-derived waxes, synthetic waxes, paraffin, isoparaffin, and ozokerite. In some cases, the composition may be formulated without, substantially without, or without water.
[0018] Unless otherwise specifically stated, all percentages are by weight of the cosmetic composition. Unless otherwise specifically stated, all ratios are by weight. All ranges include endpoints and are combinable. Significant figures do not represent limitations on the quantities indicated or on the precision of the measurements. Unless otherwise specifically stated, all quantities are understood to be modified by the word “approximately”. Unless otherwise specified, all measurements are understood to be taken at approximately 21°C and ambient conditions, where “ambient conditions” means conditions at approximately 1 atmosphere and approximately 50% relative humidity. All numerical ranges include narrower ranges, and the demarcated upper and lower range limits are interchangeable in creating further ranges that are not explicitly demarcated.

[0027] [[ID=AP8]]
[0028] Cleansing balm composition The composition can be a cleansing balm having the hardness of a soft solid that is easily deformed upon application of force by a consumer when scooped out of the package and spread on the face. When stored in a jar at room temperature, the composition does not visibly move when the jar is tilted. It can be important for the cleansing balm to have an appropriate average hardness such that it is not overly soft and gooey, but also not overly hard for the consumer to easily scoop up and apply the composition.
[0029] In addition, it may be important that the cleansing balm has a consistent hardness between the surface and the center of the product. A balm with a very hard surface but a gooey center is undesirable, and conversely, a balm with a very hard outer layer that is difficult to scoop is also undesirable. However, a surface "layer" of similar hardness, which may even be slightly harder than the inside of the product, is acceptable and may even be desirable. The scale of outer layer versus inner hardness is described in the hardness metric, and the outer layer versus inner hardness ratio may be about 0.60 to about 2.0, alternatively about 0.80 to about 1.5, or alternatively about 0.80 to about 1.25, when measured according to the penetration method described herein. Alternatively, the scale of outer layer versus inner hardness may be greater than 1.0, alternatively greater than 1.1, or alternatively greater than 1.2, when measured according to the penetration method described herein.
[0030] This composition may have an average hardness greater than 50 gf and less than 350 gf, alternatively about 50 gf to about 300 gf, alternatively about 50 gf to about 250 gf, or alternatively about 50 gf to about 200 gf when measured according to the penetration method described herein.
[0031] This composition may also be physically stable. The oil-binding capacity test method may help predict how much oil the cleansing balm can hold without leaching. To be physically stable, the oil-binding capacity % may be greater than 65% according to the oil-binding capacity test method. In another example, the oil-binding capacity % may be greater than 70%, alternatively greater than 75%, or alternatively greater than 80% when measured according to the oil-binding capacity test method.
[0032] This composition may contain one or more of the following: structuring agents, emollients, emulsifiers, skin active substances, or combinations thereof. [0036] This composition may contain one or more ester waxes having a melting point of 45-55°C. Non-limiting examples include jojoba esters, trilaurin, shea butter, beeswax, polyglyceryl-3 beeswax, and combinations thereof. This composition may contain one or more ester waxes having a melting point of 45-55°C in an amount of about 1% to about 12% by weight, alternatively about 2% to about 10% by weight, or alternatively about 2% to about 6% by weight of the composition.

[0039] Additional wax structuring agents may be added to modify the structure of the cleansing balm, which may contain a fatty alcohol or a fatty alcohol-containing wax that is solid at 25°C. The fatty alcohol composition may contain fatty alcohol in an amount of about 0.2% to about 3% by weight, alternatively about 0.3% to about 2% by weight, or alternatively about 0.5% to about 1.5% by weight of the composition.
[0040] Examples of fatty alcohols include monohydric alcohols having 8 to 22 carbon atoms, but longer-chain alcohols having more than 30 carbon atoms may be used. Fatty alcohols may be saturated or unsaturated. Fatty alcohols may be linear or branched. For example, fatty alcohols may include linear saturated fatty alcohols having terminal hydroxyls. Examples of fatty alcohols include decyl alcohol, lauryl alcohol, myristyl alcohol, cetyl alcohol, stearyl alcohol, isostearyl alcohol, eicosyl alcohol, behenyl alcohol, batyl alcohol, arachidyl alcohol, brassica alcohol, coconut alcohol, hydrogenated jojoba alcohol, jojoba alcohol, or combinations thereof. Alternatively, fatty alcohols may have an average chain length of about 12 to about 18. Fatty alcohols may include cetyl and / or behenyl alcohols.
[0041] In some cases, cleansing balms may be formulated without cetearyl alcohol, substantially without it, or without it, because cetearyl alcohol may have undesirable comedogenicity. In other cases, cleansing balms may be formulated without palmitic acid and stearic acid, substantially without them, or without them.
[0042] emulsifier The cleansing balm composition may contain one or more emulsifiers. Emulsifiers useful in the present invention are typically oil-soluble or miscible with oil-soluble external phase substances, particularly at the temperature at which lipid substances melt. They should also have a relatively low HLB value. Suitable emulsifiers for use in the present invention typically have an HLB value in the range of about 1 to about 7 and may include mixtures of different emulsifiers. Preferably, these emulsifiers have an HLB value of about 1.5 to about 6, more preferably about 2 to about 5. The emulsifiers may be substantially free of or free of ethylene oxide repeating units.
[0043] This composition may contain approximately 1% to 30%, alternatively approximately 5% to 25%, alternatively approximately 8% to 23%, alternatively approximately 13% to 21%, or alternatively approximately 14% to 20% of emulsifiers. This composition may contain approximately 1% to 15%, alternatively approximately 5% to 13%, or alternatively approximately 7% to 10% of emulsifiers. This composition may contain less than 15%, alternatively less than 13%, alternatively less than 10%, alternatively less than 9%, or alternatively less than 5% of emulsifiers.

Other preferred emulsifiers include diglycerol esters derived from monooleic acid, monomyristateic acid, monopalmitic acid, and monoisostearate.
[0046] Skin softener As consumers demand more natural ingredients in skincare products, including cleansing balms, one approach to formulation is to use emollients derived from natural oils. These emollients may be derived from plant sources such as palm oil or coconut oil and may be liquid at 25°C. An example of a natural oil-derived emollient may be a liquid triglyceride, such as caprylic / capric triglyceride, which is gentle on the skin and ideal for high-level use. Due to the requirement of cleansing balms to remove water-resistant makeup, additional emollients, such as alkanes or esters, may be needed to help solubilize makeup containing esters such as cetyl ethylhexanoate and coco-caprylate / caprate.
[0047] Cleansing balm compositions can be formulated without, without, or substantially without petroleum-based emollients. The emollient may be a liquid emollient having a melting point below 40°C, below 35°C, or below 30°C. The liquid emollient may be an oil containing esters, alkanes, triglycerides, non-volatile silicones, and combinations thereof. In some examples, a cleansing balm composition may contain one or more liquid emollients.

The cleansing balm composition may contain one or more emollients in an amount of about 40% to about 80% by weight, alternatively about 50% to about 75% by weight, alternatively about 60% to about 75% by weight, or alternatively about 65% to about 75% by weight of the composition. The cleansing balm may contain more than 50%, more than 55%, more than 60%, more than 63%, more than 65%, and more than 70% of emollients.
[0050] Preservatives In some cases, the composition may be free of or substantially free of cosmetic preservatives. Due to the anhydrous nature of the cleansing balm, the composition may not require conventional preservative ingredients to inhibit microbial growth.
[0051] In other examples, the composition may contain conventional preservatives such as phenoxyethanol.
[0052] Alternatively, multifunctional ingredients such as phenylpropanol can be incorporated into compositions primarily to provide functional benefits (e.g., fragrance, solvent) and contribute to microbial antagonism.

[0054] If the compositions herein contain optional components, it may be desirable to select components that do not form complexes with other components in the composition, particularly pH-sensitive components such as niacinamide, salicylates, and peptides, or otherwise interact in an undesirable manner. If present, optional components may be included in the composition in amounts of 0.0001% to 50% by weight, 0.001% to 20% by weight, or even 0.01% to 10% by weight (e.g., 50% by weight, 40% by weight, 30% by weight, 20% by weight, 10% by weight, 5% by weight, 4% by weight, 3% by weight, 2% by weight, 1% by weight, 0.5% by weight, or 0.1% by weight).
[0055] In some cases, the composition may be formulated without, substantially without, or without dyes.
[0056] How to use The cleansing balm composition can be used as follows: First, the user scoops a generous amount of cleansing balm from the package. The user may use a spatula or other tool that may be included with the product at the time of purchase, or they may use their fingers. The consumer then warms the product in their palms and applies it to dry skin. This product can be applied to any part of the skin, including the face, neck, and / or parts or combinations thereof. Next, the user's fingertips can preferably massage the skin with gentle upward and outward circular motions, focusing on areas requiring attention (such as eye makeup). Next, the cleansing balm is rinsed off with warm water. The user may use a warm, damp washcloth, makeup remover cloth, or other tool to help break down and remove any makeup and other skincare compositions that the user may no longer want on their skin. Optionally, users can wash their face with their daily facial cleanser. This process can be repeated once or twice a day (morning / afternoon).
[0057] Manufacturing method All waxes, emollients, and emulsifiers are combined in a container and heated with stirring until the temperature exceeds the melting point of the highest melting point wax (typically heated to at least 75°C, and some compositions may need to be heated to about 90°C). After all ingredients have melted, the composition is cooled with stirring until it is about 5°C above the Kraft point of the system (the point at which one of the waxes begins to crystallize). The composition is poured into its respective packaging, often tab-like jars, and further cooled to transition from a molten liquid to a soft solid cleansing balm. Cooling within the jar can be accelerated by placing the jar through a cooling tunnel, blowing cold air over the surface of the product, or placing the jar in a controlled temperature room.
[0058] In some cases, it may be beneficial to blow cold air across the surface of the jar to accelerate the formation of a solid layer, thereby preventing liquid from splashing out of the jar as the product moves along the production line and the jars are labeled. In other cases, it may be beneficial to blow hot air onto the surface of the product to melt the product layer to a depth of several millimeters, creating a smooth and uniform surface before the cap is placed on the jar.
[0059] Test method Penetration test to determine hardness Penetration testing is a physical testing method that provides a measure of the hardness of waxy solids, soft solids, and extremely thick creams and pastes. All hardness data reported herein were collected using a TA-XT2i Texture Analyzer with Texture Expert Exceed software (version 2.64). Hardness is measured in grams of force (gf).
[0060] Hardness is determined using the penetration method, in which a 1 / 4-inch diameter ball probe (TA-8, purchased from Texture Technologies Corp.) penetrates a product depth of 10 mm at a speed of 1 mm / s. The trigger force to initiate data acquisition is set to 0.10 grams. The overall depth of the product in the jar is >15 mm, and is about the size of a jar holding 100 ml of molten composition with reasonable headspace. Multiple penetration measurements (at least two repetitions, preferably at least three repetitions) were performed at 1, 2, 4, 7, and 9.5 mm per jar, taking care to maintain a minimum of 3 mm between the penetration point and the side of the jar. All samples were measured at a temperature of 23 ± 2 °C and a relative humidity of 50 ± 5%, unless otherwise specified.
[0061] A force-to-probe depth curve is obtained. The curves from repeated measurements on a single cleansing balm are averaged to obtain the average force at 1, 2, 4, 7, and 9.5 mm. The force values across these depths represent a hardness profile, which may have a maximum value at any given depth. The maximum value obtained by subtracting the minimum value across these depths is defined as the hardness range, and the average of the values at these five depths is considered the average hardness. The ratio of the maximum hardness at 1.0–4.0 mm to the hardness at 9.5 mm is defined as the skin-to-internal hardness ratio.
[0062] Oil-binding capacity test method The oil-binding capacity test method is used to measure the fraction of a composition held under centrifugal conditions. Each pre-weighed sample composition is placed in a centrifuge equipped with a filter and subjected to a centrifugal force of 800 G for 20 minutes. The mass of each sample collected in the tube after passing through the filter is then measured, and the fraction of each held sample is calculated. This method is performed in an environment of 23 ± 2 °C and 50 ± 5% relative humidity unless otherwise specified, and all materials and equipment used are equilibrated to laboratory conditions for at least 2 hours before use.
[0063] At least two, preferably three, samples of a single cleansing balm composition are collected and analyzed individually. A transfer tube (part number 190195P, Repligen Corporation, Boston, MA, USA, or equivalent) is used to collect each sample with a mass of 0.75 ± 0.25 g. Each sample mass of the sample composition in the transfer tube is pushed into a pre-weighed filter unit of a filter centrifuge tube (Spin-X-Mfr#8169 Costar, Inc., Corning, NY, USA, or equivalent), and the mass of the sample is determined by the difference and recorded in units of 0.0001 g. Each centrifuge tube is pre-weighed separately from the loaded filter unit, and its mass is recorded in units of 0.0001 g. Each loaded filter unit and centrifuge tube assembly containing the sample is subjected to centrifugation at 800 G for 20.0 minutes. (An example of a suitable centrifuge and RPM setting to achieve this is the Sorvall Legend Micro 21 (Thermo Fisher Scientific, USA) operating at 3000 RPM). Immediately after centrifugation, the filter units are removed from each filter unit and centrifuge tube assembly, and the mass including the centrifuge tube and the compressed product composition is recorded to the nearest 0.0001 g. From there, the mass of the product compressed from each sample is calculated by the difference to the nearest 0.0001 g. The mass of the sample held in the filter is defined as the oil-binding capacity, and for each sample, it is defined as follows:
[0064]
number
[0065] The arithmetic mean of the repeated sample oil-binding capacity is calculated in 0.1% increments and reported as the oil-binding capacity of the cleansing balm. [Examples]
[0066] The following data and examples are provided to illustrate the skincare compositions described herein. The exemplified compositions are given solely for illustrative purposes and are subject to numerous modifications without departing from the spirit and scope of this disclosure, and should not be construed as limitations of this disclosure. All parts, percentages, and ratios herein are by weight unless otherwise specified.
[0067] Examples 1-30, 34-36, and 39-64 were prepared according to the methods described herein. Examples 31, 37, and 38 could also be prepared according to the methods described herein.
[0068] Examples were considered preferable if they met the following criteria. The examples passed both qualitative stability and ease of use tests. To pass the qualitative test, the composition needed to be phase-stable without oil leaching, as indicated by visual detection, including oil leaching immediately after the product was scooped out. The composition passed the ease of use test if it could be scooped from the jar as a creamy balm with normal pressure and had a consistent texture upon visual inspection. The sample failed the ease of use test if it was excessively hard and difficult to scoop, crumbled when scooped, or was excessively runny (e.g., felt like conventional body lotion dispensed from a pump dispenser). In many cases, if the sample failed the qualitative stability test, no further tests were performed. The average hardness was 50–350 gf, according to the penetration test described herein. • Skin:internal hardness ratio greater than 0.60 and less than 2.0, according to the penetration test described herein. • The oil binding capacity % is >65% according to the oil binding capacity test method described herein.
[0069] Examples 1-22 are undesirable. In Examples 8-10, 12, 13, and 16-22, oil separation occurred and the product was excessively soft. This indicates that the wax structuring agent combination did not crystallize sufficiently to retain the oil. Examples 6-7 and 11 did not have visible oil separation but were excessively hard and unacceptable to consumers. This indicates that the wax combination crystallized excessively. When a product is excessively hard, it often has lower oil bonding, and storage may cause oil leakage during use. Examples 2-3, 5, and 14-15 all had an uneven texture while spreading, which also indicates that the wax combination was undesirable to consumers.
[0070] Examples 23-26, 29, 32-36, 41-43, 45, and 47-67 may be preferred compositions because they did not exhibit oil separation and had good hardness and a smooth texture. These examples have a combination of Emulium® Melifera MB (Gattefosse®), stearyl behenate, tribehenin, and C18-36 acid triglycerides, which demonstrates a combination of wax structuring agents and oils that can be used in cleansing balm products preferred by consumers.
[0071] Other combinations of oils, wax structuring agents, and emulsifiers with similar properties may be used to create consumer-acceptable cleansing balm compositions. For example, Examples 47, 49, 53, 54, and 57 contained 2–8.8% shea butter as a wax structuring agent, and Examples 59–60 contained 3.3–6.6% hydrogenated rapeseed oil as a wax structuring agent. Examples 52, 55–56, 58, and 61–64 contained 0.5–1.5% behenyl alcohol as an additional structuring agent. However, as the undesirable examples illustrate, formulating an effective cleansing balm with consumer-favorable physical parameters can be challenging.
[0072] Example 27 was excessively soft and oil separated, making it undesirable to consumers. Example 27 was similar to Example 23. The main difference was that Example 27 contained 3% behenyl behenate, while Example 23 contained stearyl behenate. This indicates that behenyl behenate and stearyl behenate do not behave similarly in cleansing balm compositions, and additional experiments were needed to produce a consumer-friendly composition with behenyl behenate wax structuring.
[0073] Example 28 was excessively soft and oil separated, making it undesirable to consumers. Example 28 is similar to Examples 23-25. The main difference is that Example 28 contains >50% triheptanoin in combination with other oils, while Examples 23-25 contain >50% caprylic / capric triglyceride. This indicates that triheptanoin and caprylic / capric triglyceride are not interchangeable.
[0074] Example 31 was excessively soft and oil separated, making it undesirable to consumers. Example 31 contained 3% Emulium® Mellifera MB, which suggests that it may be advantageous to formulate with a higher level of Emulium® Mellifera MB.
[0075] Examples 39, 40, and 44 were unpopular with consumers because the oil separated. All of these examples contained hydrogenated castor oil. It may be preferable to incorporate these cleansing balm compositions without hydrogenated castor oil.
[0076] Example 46 was unpopular with consumers because the oil separated. Example 46 was similar to Example 45; however, the emulsifiers were different. Example 46 contained 8% polyglyceryl-6 myristate, while Example 45 contained 8% polyglyceryl-6 dicaprate. This indicates that polyglyceryl-6 myristate and polyglyceryl-6 dicaprate are not interchangeable.
