Abstract

A packaging container for the storage of biological materials, wherein, when in use, the packaging container is filled with one or more samples of biological materials and is placed in a biological material storage device, configured such that a heat exchange fluid flows around the packaging container, the packaging container comprising a substantially planar substrate having a front edge facing the flow of the heat exchange fluid when in use, a rear edge opposite the front edge, and opposing ends; one or more wells formed in the substrate, each configured to receive a sample of biological material, and each well comprising a substantially planar base, side walls, a front edge, and an opposite rear edge; and a seal layer applied to the substrate when in use to seal the one or more wells and the samples of biological material contained therein.
