Abstract
Description
[Technical field]
[0001] The present invention relates to a hybrid connector, and more particularly to a hybrid connector capable of transmitting both signals and power. [Background technology]
[0002] It is known to transmit signals and power between circuit boards using a hybrid floating connector having signal contacts and power contacts, such as disclosed in U.S. Pat. No. 9,484,656 B2.
[0003] However, when the layout of the solder pads on the circuit board is predefined and the external dimensions of the connector are strictly defined, it may be necessary to shift some of the power contacts relative to other parts. This prevents interference between the power contacts and the fixed housing when the movable housing floats, and prevents the influence of heat generated by the power contacts on the signal contacts by making the gap between the board side (soldering side) of the signal contacts and the power contacts larger than the gap between the contact sides of the signal contacts and the power contacts. The connector disclosed in US9484656B2 cannot meet such requirements. Summary of the Invention

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS
[0018] Hereinafter, a board-to-board connector assembly according to an embodiment of the present invention will be described with reference to the accompanying drawings. In each drawing, similar components or components having the same function are designated by the same reference numerals. The drawings are not drawn to actual scale.
[0019] The components of the board-to-board connector assembly according to the embodiment of the present invention will be described with reference to Figures 1, 2, 3, and 4. Figure 1 is a perspective view showing the board-to-board connector assembly according to the embodiment of the present invention in a mated state. Figure 2 is a perspective view showing the board-to-board connector assembly according to the embodiment of the present invention in a non-mated state. Figure 3 is a front view showing the board-to-board connector assembly according to the embodiment of the present invention in a mated state. Figure 4 is a cross-sectional view taken along line AA in Figure 3. The entire board-to-board connector assembly is designated by the reference numeral 1.
[0020] The board-to-board connector assembly 1 includes a floating hybrid connector 10 and a non-floating hybrid connector 20. The non-floating hybrid connector 20 is a mating connector of the floating hybrid connector 10. Alternatively, the floating hybrid connector 10 is a mating connector of the non-floating hybrid connector 20. The floating hybrid connector 10 and the non-floating hybrid connector 20 can be mated with each other in a first direction D1. The floating hybrid connector 10 is fixed to a first circuit board P1 by surface mounting technology. The non-floating hybrid connector 20 is fixed to a second circuit board P2 by surface mounting technology. An electrical connection between the first circuit board P1 and the second circuit board P2 is established through the board-to-board connector assembly 1. Since the floating hybrid connector 10 has a floating movable housing, the floating hybrid connector 10 can absorb misalignment of the connector or the circuit board. As shown in FIG. 4, when the floating hybrid connector 10 and the non-floating hybrid connector 20 are mated with each other, the contacts of the floating hybrid connector 10 and the non-floating hybrid connector 20 are in electrical contact with each other, thereby establishing an electrical connection between the first circuit board P1 and the second circuit board P2.
[0021] A floating hybrid connector 10 according to an embodiment of the present invention will be described with reference to Figures 5 and 6. As shown in Figures 5 and 6, the floating hybrid connector 10 has a first housing 11 as a fixed housing, a second housing 12 as a movable housing, a plurality of signal contacts 13, and a plurality of power contacts 14. The first housing 11 and the second housing 12 are made of insulating resin material or polymer material by injection molding. The signal contacts 13 and the power contacts 14 are made of a conductive material (e.g., copper or copper alloy).
[0022] The first housing 11 has an accommodation space 110. A lower portion of the second housing 12 is accommodated in the accommodation space 110. A gap is provided between the first housing 11 and the second housing 12, allowing the second housing 12 to move relative to the first housing 11 on a plane perpendicular to the first direction D1.
[0023] The second housing 12 has a main body 120 and limiting portions 121 formed at both ends of the main body 120. The main body 120 of the second housing 12 has a mating opening 1200 that functions as a mating portion. The two U-shaped metal fittings 15 are assembled to both ends of the first housing 11, respectively, and interfere with the limiting portions 121. The U-shaped metal fittings 15 prevent the second housing 12 from moving in the first direction D1, and prevent the second housing 12 from coming off the first housing 11. This limits the second housing 12 to be movable relative to the first housing 11 only within a plane perpendicular to the first direction D1. FIG. 7 is a perspective view showing the signal contacts 13 and the power contacts 14, with one signal contact 13 and one power contact 14 being enlarged. As shown in FIG. 7, the signal contacts 13 and the power contacts 14 are arranged in two rows along a second direction D2 perpendicular to the first direction D1. The two rows of contacts are symmetrical to each other. In each row of contacts, the two power contacts 14 are arranged on either side of the signal contact group formed by the signal contacts 13, and are separated from the signal contact group. However, the present invention is not limited thereto, and in each row of contacts, the two power contacts 14 may be arranged on the same side of the signal contact group. In this embodiment, in each row of contacts, only one power contact is arranged on each side of the signal contact group, but two or more power contacts may be arranged on each side of the signal contact group if necessary.
[0024] In this embodiment, the floating hybrid connector 10 has 140 signal contacts 13 and 4 power contacts 14. However, the present invention is not limited thereto, and the number of signal contacts or power contacts may be increased or decreased as required.
[0025] Each signal contact 13 has a signal side soldering portion 131, a first signal side held portion 132, a signal side spring portion 133, a second signal side held portion 134, and a signal side contact portion 135. The first signal side held portion 132 is continuous from the signal side soldering portion 131. The signal side spring portion 133 connects the first signal side held portion 132 and the second signal side held portion 134, and enables the second signal side held portion 134 to be elastically displaced relative to the first signal side held portion 132. The signal side contact portion 135 is continuous from the second signal side held portion 134. The signal side soldering portion 131 is fixed to the circuit board by surface mounting technology. The first signal side held portion 132 having a barb structure is press-fitted into the first housing 11 and is held by the first housing 11. A second signal side held portion 134 having a barb structure is press-fitted into the second housing 12 and is held by the second housing 12 .
[0026] The signal side spring portion 133 of the signal contact 13 has, in this order, a first extending portion 1331, a first curved portion 1332, a second extending portion 1333, a second curved portion 1334, and a third extending portion 1335. When viewed from the second direction D2, the first extending portion 1331 and the third extending portion 1335 extend at an angle with respect to the first direction D1. The second extending portion 1333 extends in a direction parallel to the first direction D1.
[0027] Each power contact 14 has a power supply side soldering portion 141, a first power supply side held portion 142, a power supply side offset extension portion 143, a second power supply side held portion 144, and a power supply side contact portion 145. The first power supply side held portion 142 is continuous from the power supply side soldering portion 141. The power supply side offset extension portion 143 connects the first power supply side held portion 142 and the second power supply side held portion 144. The power supply side contact portion 145 is continuous from the second power supply side held portion 144. The power supply side soldering portion 141 is fixed to the circuit board by surface mounting technology. The first power supply side held portion 142 having a barb structure is press-fitted into the first housing 11 and is held by the first housing 11. The second power supply side held portion 144 having a barb structure is press-fitted into the second housing 12 and is held by the second housing 12.
[0028] The power supply side offset extension portion 143 of the power supply contact 14 has a first extension portion 1431, a first curved portion 1432, a second extension portion 1433, a second curved portion 1434, and a third extension portion 1435 in this order. When viewed from the second direction D2, the first extension portion 1431 and the third extension portion 1435 extend at an angle with respect to the first direction D1. When viewed from the third direction D3, the second extension portion 1433 has a portion extending at an angle with respect to the first direction D1. The second power supply side held portion 144 and the power supply side contact portion 145 are offset with respect to the power supply side solder portion 141 and the first power supply side held portion 142. In this embodiment, the power supply side offset extension portion 143 of the power supply contact 14 of the floating hybrid connector 10 functions as a power supply side spring portion, enabling the second power supply side held portion 144 to be elastically displaced relative to the first power supply side held portion 142.
[0029] The signal side contact portions 135 of the signal contacts 13 and the power side contact portions 145 of the power contacts 14 are positioned within the mating openings 1200 of the second housing 12, and come into contact with the contacts of the mating connector.
[0030] FIG. 8 is a view of the power contact 14 enlarged in FIG. 7 as viewed from the third direction D3. FIG. 9 is a view of the signal contact 13 and the power contact 14 as viewed from the third direction D3. As shown in FIG. 8, the power contact 14 is configured such that the center axis C2 of the power supply side contact portion 145 is offset leftward (i.e., inward) from the center axis C1 of the power supply side soldering portion 141. In other words, the power supply side offset extension portion 143 causes the center axis C2 of the power supply side contact portion 145 to be offset leftward (i.e., inward) from the center axis C1 of the power supply side soldering portion 141 in the second direction D2 so that the gap between the power supply side soldering portion 141 and the signal contact group is larger than the gap between the power supply side contact portion 145 and the signal contact group. With this configuration, the gap between the power supply contact and the signal contact on the board side can be made different from the gap between the power supply contact and the signal contact on the contact side. As a result, as shown in FIG. 9, the power contacts are configured so that the spacing between the power contacts and the signal contacts on the substrate side is greater than the spacing between the power contacts and the signal contacts on their contact sides.
[0031] When a power contact transmits power, the temperature of the soldered portion on the power supply side rises, which may adversely affect the adjacent signal contact. When the temperature of the signal contact rises, its resistance characteristics may also change, which may cause the signal transmitted by the signal contact to attenuate. This may cause abnormalities in signal transmission. Therefore, the power contact of the present invention can suppress the thermal effect on the signal contact and improve the reliability of signal transmission of the connector.
[0032] Since the power contacts 14 have a width larger than that of the signal contacts 13, the power supply side offset extension portions 143 functioning as spring portions of the power supply contacts 14 have greater stiffness than the signal side spring portions 133 of the signal contacts 13. In order to facilitate floating of the second housing, it is preferable to reduce the stiffness of the power supply side offset extension portions 143 of the power supply contacts 14 so that the power supply side offset extension portions 143 of the power supply contacts 14 are more easily deformed.
[0033] 7 and 8, a plurality of long slots 1430 are formed in the power supply side offset extension 143 of the power contact 14, extending along the longitudinal direction thereof. The formation of the long slots 1430 can weaken the power supply side offset extension 143.
[0034] The floating hybrid connector 10 further includes a high-frequency insulating member 16. The high-frequency insulating member 16 is fixed to the bottom of the second housing 12. The high-frequency insulating member 16 is configured to partially surround the exposed portion of the signal contact 13, and can improve the high-frequency characteristics of the signal contact 13. For ease of explanation, FIG. 10 shows only the signal contact 13 and the high-frequency insulating member 16. As shown in FIG. 10, the high-frequency insulating member 16 has a plurality of accommodating grooves 161. The accommodating grooves 161 are arranged at predetermined intervals along the second direction. Each accommodating groove 161 is provided to accommodate a portion of the signal contact 13 adjacent to the second signal side held portion 134.
[0035] A non-floating hybrid connector 20 that can be mated with the floating hybrid connector 10 will be described below with reference to Figures 11 and 12. Figure 11 is a perspective view showing the non-floating hybrid connector 20. Figure 12 is an exploded perspective view showing the non-floating hybrid connector 20.
[0036] The non-floating hybrid connector 20 has an insulating housing 21, a plurality of signal contacts 22, and a plurality of power contacts 23. The insulating housing 21 is a two-piece housing, and is composed of a first housing 21A and a second housing 21B. The first housing 21A and the second housing 21B are each manufactured from an insulating resin material or a polymer material by injection molding. The signal contacts 22 and the power contacts 23 are manufactured from a conductive material (e.g., copper or a copper alloy). The insulating housing 21 functions as a fixed housing.
[0037] The first housing 21A is a frame. One end of the second housing 21B is a tongue. The tongue functions as a fitting portion of the non-floating hybrid connector 20. The second housing 21B is disposed within the first housing 21A so as to be immovable relative to the first housing 21A.
[0038] 13 is a perspective view showing the signal contacts 22 and the power contacts 23. As shown in FIG. 13, the signal contacts 22 and the power contacts 23 are arranged in two rows along a second direction D2 perpendicular to the first direction D1. The two rows of contacts are symmetrical to each other. In each row of contacts, the two power contacts 23 are arranged on both sides of a signal contact group formed by the signal contacts 22 and are separated from the signal contact group. However, the present invention is not limited to this. The arrangement of the contacts of the non-floating hybrid connector is determined according to the arrangement of the contacts of the floating hybrid connector to be mated therewith.
[0039] Each signal contact 22 has a signal side soldering portion 221, a first signal side held portion 222, a signal side bent extension portion 223, a second signal side held portion 224, and a signal side contact portion 225. The first signal side held portion 222 is continuous from the signal side soldering portion 221. The signal side bent extension portion 223 connects the first signal side held portion 222 and the second signal side held portion 224. The signal side contact portion 225 is continuous from the second signal side held portion 224. The signal side soldering portion 221 is fixed to the circuit board by surface mounting technology. The first signal side held portion 222 and the second signal side held portion 224, which have a barb structure, are press-fitted into the second housing 21B and are held by the second housing 21B.
[0040] Each power contact 23 has a power supply side soldering portion 231, a first power supply side held portion 232, a power supply side offset extension portion 233, a second power supply side held portion 234, and a power supply side contact portion 235. The first power supply side held portion 232 is continuous with the power supply side soldering portion 231. The power supply side offset extension portion 233 connects the first power supply side held portion 232 and the second power supply side held portion 234. The power supply side contact portion 235 is continuous with the second power supply side held portion 234. The power supply side soldering portion 231 is fixed to the circuit board by surface mounting technology. The first power supply side held portion 232 and the second power supply side held portion 234, which have a barb structure, are pressed into the second housing 21B and are held by the second housing 21B.
[0041] Fig. 14 is a view of the power contact 14 enlarged in Fig. 13 as viewed from the third direction D3. Fig. 15 is a view of the signal contact 22 and the power contact 23 as viewed from the third direction D3. As shown in Fig. 14, the power contact 23 is configured such that the center axis C4 of the power supply side contact portion 235 is offset leftward (i.e., inward) from the center axis C3 of the power supply side soldering portion 231. In other words, the power supply side offset extension portion 233 causes the center axis C4 of the power supply side contact portion 235 to be offset leftward (i.e., inward) from the center axis C2 of the power supply side soldering portion 231 in the second direction D2 so that the gap between the power supply side soldering portion 231 and the signal contact group is larger than the gap between the power supply side contact portion 235 and the signal contact group. As shown in FIG. 15, due to the power supply side contact portion 235 being misaligned with respect to the power supply side soldering portion 231, the gap between the power supply side soldering portion 231 and the signal contact group is larger than the gap between the power supply side contact portion 235 and the signal contact group.
[0042] In this embodiment, the insulating housing 21 is a two-piece housing, but the present invention is not limited thereto. The insulating housing 21 can also be a one-piece housing. In this embodiment, the signal contacts and the power contacts are held only by the second housing 21B, but the present invention is not limited thereto. In the case of a two-piece housing, the signal contacts and the power contacts can also be held by the first housing and the second housing.
[0043] Furthermore, the hybrid connector of the present invention can be specifically implemented as a floating hybrid connector or a non-floating hybrid connector.
[0044] Although the present invention has been described with reference to the preferred embodiment, those skilled in the art may make various modifications as appropriate without departing from the spirit of the present invention. Therefore, the present invention is not limited to the above embodiment, but is subject to the scope of the utility model registration claims. In other words, equivalent changes and modifications that do not depart from the scope of the utility model registration claims of the present invention shall remain within the scope of the present invention.
