Abstract
Description
[Technical field]
[0001] The present invention relates to an antenna device, a communication device, and a method for manufacturing an antenna device. [Background technology]
[0002] Communication devices such as mobile terminals are required to have the ability to receive radio waves from various directions and radiate radio waves in various directions. To meet this requirement, it is necessary to place antennas on many surfaces of the housing. An antenna device is known in which two flat plate sections with different normal directions are connected by a bent section (Patent Document 1). The two flat plate sections and the bent section are produced by processing a single flat substrate to form a thin section, and then bending this thin section.
[0003] The two flat plate portions include a plurality of protrusions that protrude from the boundary between each flat plate portion and the bent portion toward the bent portion and are raised from the bent portion. The protrusion lengths of the protrusions are set so that the plurality of protrusions do not spatially interfere with each other before the bent portion is bent (FIG. 20 of Patent Document 1). Alternatively, the protrusions of one flat plate portion and the protrusions of the other flat plate portion are alternately arranged in a direction parallel to the intersection line of the two planes along which the two flat plate portions are located (FIG. 22 of Patent Document 1). A radiating element is arranged on each of the protrusions of the two flat plate portions. [Prior art documents] [Patent documents]
[0004] [Patent Document 1] International Publication No. 2020 / 170722 Summary of the Invention [Problem to be solved by the invention]
[0005] In a conventional antenna device (FIG. 20 of Patent Document 1), the protruding length of the protruding parts is limited so that the protruding parts do not spatially interfere with each other before the bending parts are bent. Since the protruding amount of the protruding parts is limited, the size of the radiating element to be placed on the protruding parts is also limited.
[0006] In a conventional antenna device (FIG. 22 of Patent Document 1), the protrusions of one flat plate and the protrusions of the other flat plate are alternately arranged in a direction parallel to the above-mentioned intersection line, which alleviates the restriction on the protrusion length of the protrusions. However, the multiple radiating elements arranged on the protrusions of one flat plate cannot be arranged in the range where the protrusions of the other flat plate are arranged in the direction parallel to the intersection line. In this way, the degree of freedom in arranging the radiating elements is limited.
[0007] An object of the present invention is to provide an antenna device and a manufacturing method thereof that can relax the upper limit of the dimensions of a plurality of radiating elements arranged on each of two surfaces connected via a curved portion and having different normal directions, and can increase the degree of freedom in arrangement. Another object of the present invention is to provide a communication device equipped with this antenna device. [Means for solving the problem]
[0008] According to one aspect of the present invention, a plate-shaped connection portion having a first surface and a second surface opposite to the first surface; a plate-like first portion and a plate-like second portion connected to the first surface of the connection portion; A first radiating element disposed in the first portion; a second radiating element disposed in the second portion; Equipped with The connection portion is A first plate portion; A curved portion extending from the first flat plate portion and curved so that the first surface faces outward; A second flat plate portion further extending from the curved portion; Including, the first portion includes a first extension portion that is connected to the first surface of the first flat plate portion and extends from a boundary between the first flat plate portion and the curved portion toward the curved portion, the second portion includes a second extension portion that is connected to the first surface of the second flat plate portion and extends from a boundary between the second flat plate portion and the curved portion toward the curved portion, At least a portion of the first extending portion and at least a portion of the second extending portion occupy the same position in a first direction parallel to an intersection line between a plane along which the first flat plate portion extends and a plane along which the second flat plate portion extends; a first distance in a direction perpendicular to the first reference plane from a first reference plane that is perpendicular to the first surface of the first flat plate portion and parallel to the first direction to a plane that intersects with a thickness direction of the first extension portion; a second distance in a direction perpendicular to the second reference plane from a second reference plane that is perpendicular to the first surface of the second flat plate portion and parallel to the first direction to a plane that intersects with the thickness direction of the second extension portion; The third distance is the shortest distance from the first reference surface to the second reference surface along a path along the first surface, a sum of the first distance and the second distance at a position having the same height from the first surface is equal to or less than the third distance, An antenna device is provided in which the sum of the maximum value of the first distance and the maximum value of the second distance is longer than the third distance.
[0009] According to another aspect of the present invention, the antenna device and a circuit for supplying a high frequency signal to the first radiating element and the second radiating element; A communication device is provided, comprising:
[0010] According to yet another aspect of the present invention, A first radiating element and a second radiating element are formed on the plate-shaped first portion and the plate-shaped second portion, respectively; the first portion and the second portion are bonded to a first surface, which is one surface of a flexible substrate, in a positional relationship in which at least a portion of the first radiating element overlaps with the second portion when the first surface is viewed in a plan view, and the first portion and the second portion are not bonded to the substrate at a location where they overlap; A method for manufacturing an antenna device is provided, in which a portion of the substrate that is not bonded to the first portion and the second portion is curved in a direction such that the first surface faces outward, and the overlapping portions of the first portion and the second portion are raised above the curved portion of the substrate. Effect of the Invention
[0011] Since the first and second parts do not spatially interfere with each other even if the curved portion is deformed into a flat shape when connected to the connecting portion, the first and second parts can be fixed to the connecting portion while the connecting portion is in a flat shape. After the first and second parts are fixed to the connecting portion, the connecting portion can be curved. This reduces the difficulty of the manufacturing process compared to a method of fixing the first and second parts to a curved connecting portion.
[0012] Since the sum of the maximum value of the first distance and the maximum value of the second distance is longer than the third distance, the constraints on the size of the first radiating element to be placed in the first extension portion are relaxed compared to the conventional antenna device shown in Figure 20 of Patent Document 1. Since at least a part of the first extension portion and at least a part of the second extension portion occupy the same position in the direction parallel to the intersection line between the plane along which the first flat plate portion runs and the plane along which the second flat plate portion runs, the first radiating element and the second radiating element can be placed in the same position in the direction parallel to the intersection line compared to the conventional antenna device shown in Figure 22 of Patent Document 1, and the degree of freedom in arranging the radiating elements is increased. DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS
[0014] [First Example] An antenna device according to a first embodiment will be described with reference to FIGS. 1A to 2C.
[0015] 1A and 1B are respectively a perspective view and a cross-sectional view of an antenna device 20 according to a first embodiment. The antenna device 20 according to the first embodiment includes a plate-shaped first portion 21, a second portion 22, and a connection portion 23 that connects the first portion 21 and the second portion 22. A plurality of first radiating elements 31 are arranged in the first portion 21, and a plurality of second radiating elements 32 are arranged in the second portion 22.
[0016] The connection part 23 is a plate-like member having a first surface 23P and a second surface 23S opposite to the first surface 23P. The connection part 23 includes a flat first flat part 23A, a curved part 23C extending from the first flat part 23A and curved so that the first surface 23P faces outward, and a flat second flat part 23B extending further from the curved part 23C. The first surface 23P of the curved part 23C forms a cylindrical surface, for example, a cylindrical surface or an elliptical cylindrical surface. Hereinafter, the side of the connection part 23 facing the first surface 23P may be referred to as the "outer side", and the side facing the second surface 23S may be referred to as the "inner side".
[0017] The first flat plate portion 23A and the curved portion 23C are smoothly connected at the boundary between them, and the curved portion 23C and the second flat plate portion 23B are also smoothly connected at the boundary between them. The curved portion 23C has a bending angle of, for example, 90°. The bending angle may be set to a value other than the above.
[0018] The first portion 21 and the second portion 22 are respectively connected to a first surface 23P of the first flat plate portion 23A and a first surface 23P of the second flat plate portion 23B of the connection portion 23. For example, a metal pattern (not shown) is provided on the first surface 23P of the first flat plate portion 23A, a part of the inner surface of the first portion 21, the first surface 23P of the second flat plate portion 23B, and a part of the inner surface of the second portion 22, and the first portion 21 and the first flat plate portion 23A, and the second portion 22 and the second flat plate portion 23B are bonded together by solder.
[0019] The first portion 21 includes a first extension portion 21E extending from the boundary between the first flat plate portion 23A and the curved portion 23C toward the curved portion 23C. Similarly, the second portion 22 includes a second extension portion 22E extending from the boundary between the second flat plate portion 23B and the curved portion 23C toward the curved portion 23C. The first extension portion 21E and the second extension portion 22E are raised from the first surface 23P of the curved portion 23C. The portion of the first portion 21 bonded to the connecting portion 23 (a portion other than the first extension portion 21E) is referred to as the first adhesive portion 21M. Similarly, the portion of the second portion 22 bonded to the connecting portion 23 (a portion other than the second extension portion 22E) is referred to as the second adhesive portion 22M.
[0020] The first extension portion 21E is disposed over the entire area from one end to the other end of the first portion 21 in a direction DI parallel to a line of intersection (hereinafter, sometimes simply referred to as the "line of intersection") between a plane along which the first flat plate portion 23A is disposed and a plane along which the second flat plate portion 23B is disposed. Similarly, the second extension portion 22E is disposed over the entire area from one end to the other end of the second portion 22 in a direction DI parallel to the line of intersection. An imaginary plane obtained by further extending the inner surface of the second portion 22 from the tip of the second extension portion 22E passes through the first extension portion 21E of the first portion 21.
[0021] The multiple first radiating elements 31 are arranged on the outward surface of the first portion 21 in a direction DI parallel to the intersection line. The multiple second radiating elements 32 are arranged on the outward surface of the second portion 22 in a direction DI parallel to the intersection line. At least a portion of each of the multiple first radiating elements 31 is arranged in the first extension portion 21E. Similarly, at least a portion of each of the multiple second radiating elements 32 is arranged in the second extension portion 22E. Note that the multiple first radiating elements 31 and the multiple second radiating elements 32 do not need to be exposed and may be covered with a protective film or the like.
[0022] A first ground conductor 35 is disposed in the first portion 21, and each of the first radiating elements 31 and the first ground conductor 35 form a patch antenna. A portion of the first ground conductor 35 is disposed in the first extension portion 21E. A second ground conductor 36 is disposed in the second portion 22, and each of the second radiating elements 32 and the second ground conductor 36 form a patch antenna. A portion of the second ground conductor 36 is disposed in the second extension portion 22E. The direction from the first ground conductor 35 to the first radiating element 31 is the same as the direction in which the first surface 23P of the first plate portion 23A faces. The direction from the second ground conductor 36 to the second radiating element 32 is the same as the direction in which the first surface 23P of the second plate portion 23B faces.
[0023] The first part 21 and the second part 22 have shapes that do not spatially interfere with each other even when the curved part 23C is flattened while connected to the connecting part 23, and overlap each other when viewed in a planar view with the curved part 23C flattened. "Spatially interfere" means that the two parts cannot be arranged in a desired positional relationship because multiple members collide with each other in space. The shapes of the first part 21 and the second part 22 will be described below.
[0024] A first step 21S extending in a direction DI parallel to the intersection line is provided on the surface facing the inside of the first portion 21. The thickness of a portion of the first extension portion 21E on the tip side of the first step 21S is thinner than the thickness of the portion connected to the first flat plate portion 23A. The thickness of the second extension portion 22E is equal to or thinner than the height H1 of the first step 21S. The first step 21S may be disposed at the same position as the boundary between the first extension portion 21E and the first adhesive portion 21M, or may be disposed within the first extension portion 21E.
[0025] When the curved portion 23C is deformed into a flat plate shape, the surface of the tip of the second extension portion 22E faces the surface of the first step 21S. When the first surface 23P is viewed in plan in a state in which the curved portion 23C is deformed into a flat plate shape, the portion of the first extension portion 21E that is further toward the tip side than the first step 21S overlaps with the second portion 22. Since the first step 21S is provided, the first portion 21 and the second portion 22 do not spatially interfere with each other in a state in which the curved portion 23C is deformed into a flat plate shape. Note that "deforming the curved portion 23C into a flat plate shape" includes not only the case in which the curved portion 23C is actually deformed into a flat plate shape, but also the case in which the curved portion 23C is deformed into a flat plate shape as a thought experiment, regardless of whether the curved portion 23C can actually be deformed into a flat plate shape. When the curved portion 23C is deformed into a flat plate shape, the dimension in the curved direction is not changed.
[0026] Next, a method for manufacturing the antenna device according to the first embodiment will be described with reference to Figures 2A, 2B, and 2C. Figures 2A, 2B, and 2C are cross-sectional views of the antenna device according to the first embodiment in the middle of its manufacture.
[0027] As shown in Fig. 2A, the first portion 21 and the second portion 22 are separately manufactured. In the first portion 21, the first radiating element 31 and the first ground conductor 35 are arranged, and a first step 21S is provided. With the first step 21S as a boundary, the thickness of one portion is thinner than the thickness of the other portion. In the second portion 22, the second radiating element 32 and the second ground conductor 36 are arranged. Furthermore, a flexible, flat-plate-like connection portion 23 having a first surface 23P is prepared.
[0028] The first portion 21 and the second portion 22 are provided with pads (not shown) for bonding to the connecting portion 23. A plurality of lands (not shown) are provided on the first surface 23P of the connecting portion 23. These structures can be fabricated using a known manufacturing method for a printed wiring board, a low-temperature co-fired ceramic substrate, or the like.
[0029] As shown in FIG. 2B, the first portion 21 and the second portion 22 are bonded to the first surface 23P of the connecting portion 23. For example, solder can be used for this bonding. At this time, the first portion 21 and the second portion 22 are not bonded to the first surface 23P in the region that becomes the curved portion 23C shown in FIG. 1B. When the first surface 23P is viewed from above in a state in which the first portion 21 and the second portion 22 are bonded to the flat connecting portion 23, a relatively thin portion on one side of the first step 21S of the first portion 21 overlaps with a part of the second portion 22. One end face of the second portion 22 faces the first step 21S.
[0030] As shown by the arrow in Fig. 2C, the connection portion 23 is curved. In Fig. 2C, the shape after bending is shown by a dashed line. The portion of the connection portion 23 that is not bonded to the first portion 21 and the second portion 22 is curved to become the curved portion 23C. The portions of the first portion 21 and the second portion 22 that are not bonded to the connection portion 23 are lifted from the curved first surface 23P of the curved portion 23C, and the first extension portion 21E and the second extension portion 22E (Fig. 1B) are obtained.
[0031] Next, the excellent effects of the first embodiment will be described. In the first embodiment, the normal direction of the first plate portion 23A of the connection portion 23 is different from the normal direction of the second plate portion 23B. The boresight of the first radiating element 31 is parallel to the normal direction of the first plate portion 23A, and the boresight of the second radiating element 32 is parallel to the normal direction of the second plate portion 23B. In this way, the first radiating element 31 and the second radiating element 32 having different boresight directions can be disposed in the first portion 21 and the second portion 22 connected via the connection portion 23.
[0032] 2B, in the first embodiment, the first portion 21 and the second portion 22 are arranged so as not to spatially interfere with each other before the connecting portion 23 is bent. Therefore, the first portion 21 and the second portion 22 can be bonded to the connecting portion 23 before the connecting portion 23 is bent. Compared to a method in which the first portion 21 and the second portion 22 are bonded to the curved connecting portion 23, this has the excellent effect of simplifying the manufacturing process.
[0033] 2B, a part of the first portion 21 overlaps a part of the second portion 22 before the connecting portion 23 is bent, which provides an excellent effect that the lengths of the first extending portion 21E and the second extending portion 22E in the extending direction are increased after the connecting portion 23 is bent. For example, the extending length of the first extending portion 21E can be increased until a virtual plane obtained by further extending the inner surface of the second portion 22 from the tip of the second extending portion 22E passes through the first extending portion 21E of the first portion 21.
[0034] Since at least a portion of the first radiating element 31 and the second radiating element 32 are disposed on the first extension portion 21E and the second extension portion 22E, when the antenna device 20 is disposed on a corner of the inner surface of a housing, the first radiating element 31 and the second radiating element 32 can be brought close to the corner. This makes it possible to effectively utilize the space in the corner inside the housing.
[0035] Next, the superior effects of the first embodiment will be described in comparison with the antenna device according to the comparative example shown in FIG.
[0036] 3 is a perspective view of an antenna device according to a comparative example. A flat first portion 21 and a second portion 22 are connected via a curved connection portion 23. A first extension portion 21E of the first portion 21 and a second extension portion 22E of the second portion 22 are alternately arranged in a direction DI parallel to an intersection line between a plane along which the first portion 21 is aligned and a plane along which the second portion 22 is aligned. This configuration is used to prevent spatial interference between the first portion 21 and the second portion 22 when the connection portion 23 is deformed into a flat plate shape. A first radiating element 31 and a second radiating element 32 are arranged in the first extension portion 21E and the second extension portion 22E, respectively.
[0037] In the comparative example shown in Fig. 3, the first extension portions 21E and the second extension portions 22E are alternately arranged in the direction DI parallel to the intersection line, so the first radiating element 31 and the second radiating element 32 cannot be arranged at the same position in the direction DI parallel to the intersection line. In addition, the first extension portions 21E are discretely arranged in the direction DI parallel to the intersection line, so the lower limit of the spacing between the first radiating elements 31 is limited. Similarly, the lower limit of the spacing between the second radiating elements 32 is also limited.
[0038] In contrast, in the first embodiment, the first extension portion 21E is disposed over the entire area from one end to the other end of the first portion 21 in the direction DI parallel to the intersection line, so that the first radiating element 31 and the second radiating element 32 can be disposed at the same position in the direction DI parallel to the intersection line. Furthermore, the multiple first radiating elements 31 can be disposed with narrow intervals. Similarly, the multiple second radiating elements 32 can be disposed with narrow intervals. This makes it possible to suppress the occurrence of grating lobes when the multiple first radiating elements 31 and the multiple second radiating elements 32 are operated as a phased array antenna.
[0039] Next, the dimensions of first extension portion 21E, second extension portion 22E and curved portion 23C of the antenna device according to the first embodiment will be described with reference to Fig. 4. Fig. 4 is a schematic cross-sectional view of the antenna device according to the first embodiment.
[0040] A plane perpendicular to the first surface 23P of the first flat plate portion 23A and parallel to the direction DI parallel to the intersection line is referred to as the first reference surface 21R, and a plane perpendicular to the first surface 23P of the second flat plate portion 23B and parallel to the direction DI parallel to the intersection line is referred to as the second reference surface 22R. At a position where the height from the first surface 23P of the first flat plate portion 23A is h1, the distance from the first reference surface 21R to the surface 21F intersecting with the thickness direction of the first extension portion 21E is referred to as the first distance L1. Similarly, at a position where the height from the first surface 23P of the second flat plate portion 23B is h2, the distance from the second reference surface 22R to the surface 22F intersecting with the thickness direction of the second extension portion 22E is referred to as the second distance L2. 4, a surface 21F intersecting with the thickness direction of the first extending portion 21E and a surface 22F intersecting with the thickness direction of the second extending portion 22E are indicated by relatively thick solid lines. The shortest distance from the first reference surface 21R to the second reference surface 22R along the path along the first surface 23P of the connecting portion 23 is referred to as a third distance L3.
[0041] The sum of the first distance L1 and the second distance L2 at a position where the height h1 and the height h2 are equal (h1=h2) is equal to or less than the third distance L3. Note that, in a range where the height h1 is equal to or greater than the height h2 (h1≧h2), the first distance L1 may be longer than the third distance L3.
[0042] When the dimensional relationship between first extension portion 21E, second extension portion 22E, and connection portion 23 is set as described above, there is no spatial interference between first portion 21 and second portion 22 in the pre-bending state shown in Fig. 2B. Therefore, the antenna device can be manufactured using the manufacturing method shown in Fig. 2A, Fig. 2B, and Fig. 2C.
[0043] Also, the sum of the maximum value L1max of the first distance L1 and the maximum value L2max of the second distance L2 is longer than the third distance L3. For example, the sum of the maximum value L1Max of the first distance L1 at a portion higher than the height of the first step 21S as viewed from the first surface 23P of the first flat plate portion 23A and the maximum value L2max of the second distance L2 of the second portion 22 is longer than the third distance L3. Such a configuration can be realized by adopting a configuration in which a relatively thin portion of the first portion 21 on one side (the tip side of the first extension portion 21E) of the first portion 21 with the first step 21S as a boundary overlaps with a part of the second portion 22 when the first surface 23P is viewed in plan at the stage shown in FIG. 2B.
[0044] Next, a modification of the first embodiment will be described. In the first embodiment, the first extension 21E is disposed over the entire area from one end to the other end of the first portion 21 in the direction DI (FIG. 1A) parallel to the intersection line, and the second extension 22E is disposed over the entire area from one end to the other end of the second portion 22. As a modification, the first extension 21E and the second extension 22E may be disposed in a partial range between both ends. However, in order not to reduce the degree of freedom in arranging the first radiating element 31 and the second radiating element 32, it is preferable to configure at least a part of the first extension 21E and at least a part of the second extension 22E to occupy the same position in the direction DI parallel to the intersection line.
[0045] In the first embodiment, the first radiating element 31 and the second radiating element 32, together with the first ground conductor 35 and the second ground conductor 36, respectively, form a patch antenna, but an antenna other than a patch antenna may also be formed. For example, at least one of the first radiating element 31 and the second radiating element 32 may be a dipole antenna or the like.
[0046] [Second Example] Next, an antenna device according to a second embodiment will be described with reference to Fig. 5A, Fig. 5B, and Fig. 6. Below, a description of the configuration common to the antenna device according to the first embodiment described with reference to Figs. 1A to 2C will be omitted.
[0047] 5A and 5B are respectively a perspective view and a cross-sectional view of an antenna device 20 according to a second embodiment. In the first embodiment (FIGS. 1A and 1B), the surface facing outward of the second portion 22 is flat, but in the second embodiment, a second step 22S extending in a direction DI parallel to the intersection line is provided on the surface facing outward of the second portion 22. The thickness of a portion of the second portion 22 on the second extension portion 22E side, with the second step 22S as a boundary, is thinner than the thickness of the other portions. The second step 22S may be disposed at the boundary between the second extension portion 22E and the second adhesive portion 22M, or may be disposed at the second extension portion 22E, or may be disposed at the second adhesive portion 22M.
[0048] The second radiating elements 32 are arranged in a relatively thick region of the outer surface of the second portion 22, with the second step 22S as a boundary. A portion of the second ground conductor 36 is also arranged in a portion of the second extending portion 22E closer to the tip end than the second step 22S.
[0049] FIG. 6 is a cross-sectional view of the curved portion 23C (FIGS. 5A and 5B) of the antenna device 20 according to the second embodiment in a state where it is deformed into a flat plate shape. In FIG. 6, the shape of the curved portion 23C in a curved state is indicated by a broken line. The tip surface of the first extension 21E of the first portion 21 faces the second step 22S of the second portion 22, and the tip surface of the second extension 22E of the second portion 22 faces the first step 21S of the first portion 21. When the first surface 23P is viewed in plan, the part of the first portion 21 on the tip side of the first step 21S and the part of the second portion 22 on the tip side of the second step 22S overlap each other. The first portion 21 and the second portion 22 do not spatially interfere with each other, as in the first embodiment. Therefore, the antenna device 20 according to the second embodiment can be manufactured by the same method as the manufacturing method of the antenna device 20 according to the first embodiment shown in FIGS. 2A, 2B, and 2C.
[0050] Next, the advantageous effects of the second embodiment will be described. In the first embodiment (FIGS. 1A and 1B), the thickness of the second portion 22 cannot be made thicker than the height of the first step 21S of the first portion 21. In contrast, in the second embodiment, the second step 22S is formed on the outer surface of the second portion 22, so that the thickness of the second portion 22 can be made thicker than the height of the first step 21S. When the second portion 22 is thicker, the distance between the second radiating element 32 and the second ground conductor 36 can be made wider. This makes it possible to broaden the bandwidth of the patch antenna formed by the second radiating element 32 and the second ground conductor 36.
[0051] Furthermore, by arranging a part of the second ground conductor 36 in the second extension portion 22E, it is possible to increase the area of the second ground conductor 36. This makes it possible to increase the gain of the patch antenna formed by the second radiating element 32 and the second ground conductor 36.
[0052] Next, another example of the manufacturing method of the antenna device according to the second embodiment will be described with reference to Figures 7A, 7B, and 7C. Figures 7A, 7B, and 7C are cross-sectional views of the antenna device according to the second embodiment at intermediate stages of manufacturing. In the first embodiment, the first portion 21 and the second portion 22 are manufactured separately as shown in Figure 2A. In contrast, in this manufacturing method, the first portion 21 and the second portion 22 are manufactured integrally as shown in Figure 7A.
[0053] 7A, when the first portion 21 and the second portion 22 are manufactured integrally, a structure 25 that makes it easy for the first portion 21 and the second portion 22 to peel off is formed at the interface between the portion of the first portion 21 further than the first step 21S and the portion of the second portion 22 further than the second step 22S. Furthermore, grooves that separate the first portion 21 and the second portion 22 are formed at the locations of the first step 21S and the second step 22S. The grooves can be formed by, for example, laser processing or the like.
[0054] 7B, first portion 21 and second portion 22, which are integrated via easily peelable structure 25, are adhered to first surface 23P of connecting portion 23. At this time, first portion 21 and second portion 22 are not adhered to a region of connecting portion 23 that is to become curved portion 23C.
[0055] Next, as shown in Fig. 7C, curved portion 23C of connection portion 23 is curved. In Fig. 7C, the shape of the antenna device after bending is indicated by a dashed line. At this time, first portion 21 is peeled off from second portion 22 at the location of structure 25 that is prone to peeling.
[0056] As shown in FIGS. 7A, 7B, and 7C, it is also possible to employ a method in which the first portion 21 and the second portion 22 are integrally produced and then separated from each other.
[0057] [Third Example] Next, an antenna device according to a third embodiment will be described with reference to Fig. 8, Fig. 9A and Fig. 9B. Below, a description of the configuration common to the antenna device according to the second embodiment described with reference to Fig. 5A to Fig. 6 will be omitted.
[0058] Fig. 8 is a cross-sectional view of an antenna device 20 according to a third embodiment. In the second embodiment (Figs. 5A and 5B), the first portion 21 and the second portion 22 are bonded to the connecting portion 23 by solder or the like. In contrast, in the third embodiment, the first portion 21, the second portion 22, and the connecting portion 23 are integrally formed of the same material. In Fig. 8, an imaginary boundary surface 26 between the first portion 21 and the connecting portion 23, and an imaginary boundary surface 27 between the second portion 22 and the connecting portion 23 are indicated by dashed lines. The first portion 21, the second portion 22, and the connecting portion 23 can be made of, for example, a liquid crystal polymer.
[0059] Next, a method for manufacturing the antenna device 20 according to the third preferred embodiment will be described with reference to Figures 9A and 9B. Figures 9A and 9B are cross-sectional views of the antenna device 20 according to the third preferred embodiment during the course of its manufacture.
[0060] As shown in Fig. 9A, a laminated structure including the first portion 21, the second portion 22, the connection portion 23, the first radiating element 31, the second radiating element 32, the first ground conductor 35, and the second ground conductor 36 is formed. At this time, the boundary surface between the portion that will become the curved portion 23C when the antenna device 20 is completed and the portions that will become the first portion 21 and the second portion 22 is made to have a structure 28 that is more easily peeled off than the imaginary boundary surfaces 26, 27 between the connection portion 23 and the first portion 21 and the second portion 22. Furthermore, the boundary surface between the first portion 21 and the second portion 22 is made to have a structure 25 that is easily peeled off. Furthermore, the portions that will become the first step 21S and the second step 22S are also made to have a structure that is easily separated from each other.
[0061] As shown in FIG. 9B, the connection portion 23 is curved. At this time, peeling occurs at the locations of the structures 25, 28 that are prone to peeling, and the curved portion 23C is curved. Peeling does not occur at the imaginary boundaries 26, 27. Since the total thickness of the first portion 21 and the connection portion 23 and the total thickness of the second portion 22 and the connection portion 23 are thicker than the thickness of the curved portion 23C, the rigidity of the portions where the imaginary boundaries 26, 27 are located is higher than the rigidity of the curved portion 23C. Therefore, the first portion 21 and the second portion 22 maintain a substantially flat shape even after the curved portion 23C is bent.
[0062] Next, the excellent effects of the third embodiment will be described. In the third embodiment, similarly to the second embodiment, it is possible to broaden the bandwidth of the patch antenna constituted by the second radiating element 32 and the second ground conductor 36, and to increase the gain of the patch antenna constituted by the second radiating element 32 and the second ground conductor 36. Furthermore, in the third embodiment, there is no step of bonding the first portion 21 to the connecting portion 23, and no step of bonding the second portion 22 to the connecting portion 23. This makes it possible to reduce the number of steps.
[0063] [Fourth Example] Next, an antenna device according to a fourth embodiment will be described with reference to Fig. 10. Below, a description of the configuration common to the antenna device according to the second embodiment described with reference to Figs. 5A, 5B, and 6 will be omitted.
[0064] Fig. 10 is a cross-sectional view of an antenna device 20 according to a fourth preferred embodiment. In the first preferred embodiment (Fig. 1B), the first ground conductor 35 disposed in the first portion 21 is made of a flat conductor layer. In contrast, in the fourth preferred embodiment, the first ground conductor 35 is disposed on the inner surface of the first portion 21, spreading from one side of the first step 21S through the first step 21S to the other side. In other words, the first ground conductor 35 includes a stepped portion. The first radiating element 31 and the stepped first ground conductor 35 form a patch antenna.
[0065] The first ground conductor 35 is attached to a first ground land 38 disposed on the first surface 23P of the first flat plate portion 23A of the connection portion 23 by soldering.
[0066] Next, the excellent effects of the fourth embodiment will be described. In the fourth embodiment, the distance between the first radiating element 31 and the first ground conductor 35 is wider in a part of the first radiating element 31 than in the configuration of the first embodiment (FIG. 1B). This makes it possible to broaden the bandwidth of the patch antenna constituted by the first radiating element 31 and the first ground conductor 35.
[0067] [Fifth Example] Next, an antenna device according to a fifth embodiment will be described with reference to Fig. 11. Below, a description of the configuration common to the antenna device according to the second embodiment described with reference to Figs. 5A, 5B, and 6 will be omitted.
[0068] 11 is a cross-sectional view of an antenna device 20 according to a fifth embodiment. In the fifth embodiment, in addition to the second radiating elements 32 arranged on the outer surface of the second portion 22 of the antenna device according to the second embodiment (FIGS. 5A and 5B), a plurality of third radiating elements 33 are arranged in the second portion 22. The second ground conductor 36 is arranged on the inner surface of the second portion 22. Each of the third radiating elements 33 is arranged at a position that includes one second radiating element 32 when the outer surface of the second portion 22 is viewed in plan. Furthermore, the third radiating element 33 is arranged between the second ground conductor 36 and the second radiating element 32 in the thickness direction of the second portion 22.
[0069] A part of the third radiating element 33 is disposed on the outer surface of a relatively thin portion on the tip side of the second step 22S, and the other part is disposed on an inner layer of the second portion 22. Furthermore, the third radiating element 33 extends to the second extension portion 22E. The second ground conductor 36 and the third radiating element 33 configure a patch antenna. The third radiating element 33 also functions as a ground conductor for the second radiating element 32.
[0070] The resonant frequency of the third radiating element 33 is lower than the resonant frequency of the second radiating element 32. As an example, the resonant frequency of the third radiating element 33 is 28 GHz, and the resonant frequency of the second radiating element 32 is 39 GHz.
[0071] Next, the excellent effects of the fifth embodiment will be described. In the fifth embodiment, two types of radiating elements having different resonant frequencies are arranged in the second portion 22. Therefore, two frequency bands can be covered by the radiating elements provided in the second portion 22. Since the third radiating element 33 is arranged to extend to the second extension portion 22E, the area of the third radiating element 33 can be increased. Furthermore, when the antenna device 20 is arranged at a corner of a housing, the third radiating element 33 can be arranged close to the corner of the housing.
[0072] [Sixth Example] Next, an antenna device according to a sixth embodiment will be described with reference to Fig. 12A and Fig. 12B. Below, a description of the configuration common to the antenna device according to the second embodiment described with reference to Fig. 5A, Fig. 5B, and Fig. 6 will be omitted.
[0073] Fig. 12A is a cross-sectional view of an antenna device 20 according to a sixth embodiment. In the second embodiment (Figs. 5A and 5B), the second radiating elements 32 are arranged on the outer surface of a relatively thick portion of the second portion 22, and are not arranged in a portion on the tip side of the second step 22S. In contrast, in the sixth embodiment, each of the second radiating elements 32 is arranged on the outer surface of the second portion 22, straddling the second step 22S. The second radiating elements 32 and the second ground conductor 36 form a patch antenna.
[0074] 12B is a perspective view of one second radiating element 32. The second radiating element 32 includes a portion 32H arranged on the outer surface of the relatively thick portion, a portion 32L arranged on the outer surface of the relatively thin portion, and a portion 32C arranged on the surface constituting the second step 22S and connecting the two portions 32H and 32L, with the second step 22S as the boundary. A plurality of connecting portions 32C are arranged at intervals in the direction in which the second step 22S extends. The connecting portions 32C may be arranged continuously over the entire area of the two portions 32H and 32L in the direction in which the second step 22S extends.
[0075] Next, the excellent effects of the sixth embodiment will be described. In the sixth embodiment, the second radiating element 32 is also arranged further towards the tip side than the second step 22S, so that when the antenna device 20 is arranged at a corner of the housing, the second radiating element 32 can be brought closer to the corner of the housing.
[0076] [Seventh Example] Next, an antenna device according to a seventh embodiment will be described with reference to Fig. 13. Below, a description of the configuration common to the antenna device according to the second embodiment described with reference to Figs. 5A, 5B, and 6 will be omitted.
[0077] 13 is a cross-sectional view of an antenna device 20 according to a seventh preferred embodiment. In the second preferred embodiment (FIG. 5B), the first ground conductor 35 arranged in the first portion 21 and the second ground conductor 36 arranged in the second portion 22 are not electrically connected to each other. In contrast, in the seventh preferred embodiment, the first ground conductor 35 and the second ground conductor 36 are electrically connected to each other via a ground connection wiring 37 arranged in the connection portion 23.
[0078] More specifically, a first ground land 38 and a second ground land 39 are disposed on the first surface 23P of the first flat plate portion 23A and the second flat plate portion 23B of the connection portion 23, respectively. The first ground land 38 and the second ground land 39 are connected to each other via a ground connection wiring 37 disposed on the curved portion 23C. A first ground conductor 35 is disposed on the inner surface of the first adhesive portion 21M of the first portion 21, and a second ground conductor 36 is disposed on the inner surface of the second adhesive portion 22M of the second portion 22. The second ground conductor 36 is further disposed to extend to the inner surface of the second extension portion 22E. The first ground conductor 35 and the second ground conductor 36 are connected to the first ground land 38 and the second ground land 39 via solder (not shown), respectively.
[0079] Next, the excellent effects of the seventh embodiment will be described. In the seventh embodiment, the second ground conductor 36 is connected to the first ground conductor 35, and is arranged to extend to the second extension portion 22E and approach the first radiating element 31. Therefore, the second ground conductor 36 can function as a ground for the first radiating element 31. Since the ground area of the first radiating element 31 is substantially increased, the gain of the patch antenna including the first radiating element 31 can be increased.
[0080] [Eighth Example] Next, a communication device according to an eighth embodiment will be described with reference to Figures 14 and 15. The communication device according to the eighth embodiment is equipped with an antenna device according to any one of the first to seventh embodiments.
[0081] FIG. 14 is a block diagram of a communication device according to the eighth embodiment, and FIG. 15 is a perspective view of the communication device according to the eighth embodiment.
[0082] The communication device according to the eighth embodiment includes a baseband integrated circuit (BBIC) 80, a radio frequency integrated circuit (RFIC) 60, and an antenna device 20. As the antenna device 20, the antenna device 20 according to any one of the first to seventh embodiments is used. The antenna device 20 includes a plurality of first radiating elements 31 and a plurality of second radiating elements 32. When the antenna device 20 according to the fifth embodiment (FIG. 11) is used as the antenna device 20, the antenna device 20 further includes a plurality of third radiating elements 33 (FIG. 11).
[0083] 15, the high frequency integrated circuit 60 is mounted on the inner surface of the second flat plate portion 23B of the connection portion 23. The antenna device 20 and the high frequency integrated circuit 60 are mounted on a substrate 85 such as a motherboard. At this time, the inner surface of the curved portion 23C faces an edge where the component mounting surface of the substrate 85 intersects with one end surface. For example, the inner surface of the second portion 22 of the antenna device 20 faces the component mounting surface of the substrate 85 via the connection portion 23 and the high frequency integrated circuit 60, and the inner surface of the first portion 21 faces one end surface of the substrate 85 via the connection portion 23.
[0084] 14, an intermediate frequency signal is transmitted and received between a baseband integrated circuit 80 and a high-frequency integrated circuit 60 through a wiring 81. The baseband integrated circuit 80 is mounted on the component mounting surface of a substrate 85 as shown in FIG.
[0085] The high frequency integrated circuit 60 includes an intermediate frequency amplifier 61, an up / down conversion mixer 62, a transmit / receive switch 63, a power divider 64, a plurality of phase shifters 65, a plurality of attenuators 66, a plurality of transmit / receive switches 67, a plurality of power amplifiers 68, a plurality of low noise amplifiers 69, and a plurality of transmit / receive switches 70. The plurality of transmit / receive switches 70 are connected to the plurality of first radiating elements 31 and second radiating elements 32 via the power feeder 34, respectively.
[0086] First, the transmission function will be described. An intermediate frequency signal is input from a baseband integrated circuit 80 to an up / down conversion mixer 62 via an intermediate frequency amplifier 61. The up / down conversion mixer 62 up-converts the intermediate frequency signal to generate a high frequency signal. The generated high frequency signal is input to a power divider 64 via a transmission / reception switch 63. Each of the high frequency signals divided by the power divider 64 is input to the first radiating element 31 and the second radiating element 32 via a phase shifter 65, an attenuator 66, a transmission / reception switch 67, a power amplifier 68, a transmission / reception switch 70, and a power feeder 34.
[0087] Next, the receiving function will be described. The high frequency signals received by the first radiating element 31 and the second radiating element 32 are input to the power divider 64 via the power feeder 34, the transmit / receive switch 70, the low noise amplifier 69, the transmit / receive switch 67, the attenuator 66, and the phase shifter 65. The high frequency signal combined by the power divider 64 is input to the up / down conversion mixer 62 via the transmit / receive switch 63. The up / down conversion mixer 62 down-converts the high frequency signal to generate an intermediate frequency signal. The generated intermediate frequency signal is input to the baseband integrated circuit 80 via the intermediate frequency amplifier 61. Note that the up / down conversion mixer 62 may adopt a direct conversion method in which the high frequency signal is directly down-converted to a baseband signal.
[0088] Next, the excellent effects of the eighth embodiment will be described. Since the antenna device 20 according to any one of the first to seventh embodiments is used as the antenna device 20 included in the communication device according to the eighth embodiment, it is possible to cover a wide range including the direction in which the component mounting surface of the substrate 85 (FIG. 15) faces and the direction in which one end face faces by the first radiating element 31 and the second radiating element 32. Furthermore, by arranging the antenna device 20 at a corner of the housing, it is possible to effectively utilize the space within the housing, especially the space at the corner.
[0089] [Ninth Example] Next, an antenna device according to a ninth embodiment will be described with reference to Fig. 16 and Fig. 17. Below, a description of the configuration common to the antenna device according to the first embodiment described with reference to Fig. 1A to Fig. 2C will be omitted.
[0090] Fig. 16 is a cross-sectional view of antenna device 20 according to the ninth embodiment. In the first embodiment (Figs. 1A and 1B), a first step 21S is provided on the inner surface of first portion 21, so that the portion ahead of first step 21S is thinner than the other portions. In contrast, in the ninth embodiment, the inner surface of first portion 21 is flat, and first portion 21 has a uniform thickness. Second portion 22 also has a uniform thickness.
[0091] The first part 21 and the second part 22 each include a first extension portion 21E and a second extension portion 22E, similar to the first embodiment, but the total extension length of the first extension portion 21E and the second extension portion 22E is shorter than the extension length in the antenna device 20 of the first embodiment.
[0092] 17 is a cross-sectional view of the curved portion 23C in a state where it is deformed into a flat plate shape. The state before deformation is indicated by a dashed line. In a state where the curved portion 23C is deformed into a flat plate shape, the first portion 21 and the second portion 22 do not spatially interfere with each other, as in the antenna device 20 according to the first embodiment. When the first surface 23P of the flat plate-shaped connecting portion 23 is viewed from above, the first portion 21 and the second portion 22 partially overlap in the first embodiment (FIG. 2C), but do not overlap in the ninth embodiment. That is, the end surface of the first portion 21 and the end surface of the second portion 22 face each other.
[0093] Next, the excellent effects of the ninth embodiment will be described. In the ninth embodiment, similarly to the first embodiment, the multiple first radiating elements 31 and the multiple second radiating elements 32 can be arranged at the same position in the direction DI parallel to the intersection line (direction perpendicular to the paper surface of FIG. 16). Moreover, the multiple first radiating elements 31 and the multiple second radiating elements 32 can be arranged with a narrower interval. Moreover, compared to an antenna device not having the first extension portion 21E and the second extension portion 22E, the first radiating element 31 and the second radiating element 32 can be arranged closer to the corners of the housing.
[0094] The above-mentioned embodiments are merely examples, and it goes without saying that partial replacement or combination of the configurations shown in different embodiments is possible. Similar effects due to similar configurations of multiple embodiments are not mentioned in each embodiment. Furthermore, the present invention is not limited to the above-mentioned embodiments. For example, it will be obvious to those skilled in the art that various modifications, improvements, combinations, etc. are possible. [Explanation of symbols]
