Description

Detailed Description of the Invention

[0001] [CROSS REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATIONS] This application claims the benefit of Chinese patent applications 202011311765.9 and 202011314968.3, filed on November 20, 2020, the contents of which are incorporated herein by reference.

[0002] [Technical field] The present invention relates to an ethylene copolymer and a method for producing the same. More specifically, the present invention relates to an ethylene copolymer containing structural units derived from ethylene and structural units derived from a conjugated diolefin and a method for producing the same. The present invention also relates to a composition containing the ethylene copolymer and a crosslinked polymer containing units derived from the ethylene copolymer. The present invention further relates to a tire having at least one component containing the ethylene copolymer, the composition or the crosslinked polymer.

[0003] [Background technology] Ethylene is widely used in the plastics industry as a monomer that is used in large quantities and is easily available. Conjugated diolefins, especially butadiene and isoprene, are the most important monomers for synthesizing rubber. Butadiene, as a by-product of the process of producing ethylene through the petroleum route, was once close in price to ethylene. Recently, due to changes in the ethylene production route, the production volume of butadiene has decreased and its price has risen significantly. In comparison, the price of ethylene has been kept low. Therefore, the use of ethylene as a raw material for tire rubber has attracted attention, and it can significantly reduce raw material costs.

[0004] However, copolymerization of conjugated dienes and α-olefins has been difficult because of the different polymerization mechanisms between them. Therefore, it has been an extremely difficult task to catalyze the copolymerization of ethylene and conjugated dienes using conventional catalyst systems, and the realization of the copolymerization of the two has been undertaken by both academia and industry.

[0005] The main problem with the conventional copolymerization method of ethylene and conjugated diolefin is that the content of conjugated diolefin structural units in the produced polymer is low and the content of unsaturated bonds in the main chain of the produced polymer is high, which makes it difficult to improve physical properties such as weather resistance, heat resistance, and ozone resistance.
