AI Technical Summary
The existing detergent compositions have difficulty maintaining the same cleaning properties as conventional detergents while increasing the regenerated components, especially in the absence of stain removal and whiteness.
Use 1% to 20% of non-petroleum-derived linear or branched aliphatic alcohol ether sulfates and 1-15% branched aliphatic alcohol ether alkoxides, combined with 0.1% to 5% clean polymer and 1,2-propanol solvent, to formulate a transparent or translucent liquid detergent composition, avoiding the use of dyes and oxidants.
The ratio of regenerated components in the detergent is achieved while maintaining high transparency and cleaning performance, ensuring the same cleaning effect as traditional detergents and effectively removing stains.

Abstract
Description
[Technical field]
[0001] The present disclosure relates to detergent compositions that contain renewable components and that perform better than both conventional detergent formulations that contain non-renewable components and known detergent formulations that contain renewable components. [Background technology]
[0002] Liquid laundry detergents have been known in the art for decades. Modern detergents often consist of a blend of synthetic surfactants derived from petroleum, and any number of additional ingredients, such as builders, water conditioners, dispersants, soil release polymers, cleaning enzymes, and bleaching agents, to improve cleaning performance and obtain consumer-acceptable compositions. Although great progress has been made over the decades to make laundry detergents phosphate-free, many of today's liquid detergents use synthetic surfactants that are biodegradable but derived from petroleum. Many of the surfactants used today are petroleum-based, rather than, for example, plant-based. There is a need for detergent compositions that provide consumer-acceptable performance while including renewable ingredients.
[0003] Substitution of small amounts, such as reducing the concentration of builders and / or surfactants by increasing the enzyme concentration, or removing phosphates by replacing them with carbonate or bicarbonate builders and biodegradable chelators, is known in the art. However, applying this strategy to replace all non-renewable components in a composition is problematic, as multiple types of enzymes may need to be combined to stabilize them, and additional ingredients other than enzymes (e.g., high concentrations of optical brighteners) may be required to make up for lost performance. Formulations containing surfactant combinations (including fatty alkyl ether sulfates, linear alcohol ethoxylates, and non-ionic sugar surfactants (alkyl polyglycosides)) in combination with multi-enzyme systems are known. Environmentally friendly liquid laundry detergent compositions are known that contain biodegradable, non-petroleum-derived anionic and non-ionic surfactants along with "natural essences" (essential oils or other natural extracts). Liquid laundry detergent compositions comprising an alkyl polyglycoside (APG) and a fatty alcohol sulfate, at least two cleaning enzymes, an enzyme stabilization system (e.g., borate and / or citrate and / or calcium salts), d-limonene or other natural essences, water and adjuvants, and having a sustainability index greater than 3, are also known.
[0004] Also contains: Water, Sodium Dodecyl Benzene Sulfonate, C14-15 Pareth-n, Sodium Citrate, Sodium Palm Kernel Fatty Acid, MEA Boric Acid, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Dodecyl Benzene Sulfonic Acid, Alcohol, Propylene Glycol, Quaternized Sulfated Ethoxylated Hexamethylene Diamine, Fragrance, PEG / Vinyl Acetate Copolymer, Hydrogenated Castor Oil, PEI-14 Detergents containing PEG-10 / PPG-7 copolymer, ethanolamine, sodium diethylenetriamine pentamethylene phosphonate, PEG / PPG-10 / 2 propylheptyl ether, butylphenyl methylpropional, sorbitol, glycerin, sodium hydroxide, sodium formate, sulfuric acid, alpha-isomethyl ionone, protease, geraniol, linalool, citronellol, tripropylene glycol, glycosidase, phenylmethicone, colorants, sodium acetate, cellulase, phenoxyethanol, sodium sulfate, silica, and sodium polynaphthalene sulfonate are known. Summary of the Invention [Problem to be solved by the invention]
[0005] Overall, known laundry detergents that contain renewable ingredients do not perform at a level acceptable to consumers and do not provide performance comparable to conventional detergents. There is a need for laundry detergents that have increased concentrations of renewable components while still providing performance comparable to conventional detergents. For purposes of this disclosure, as long as one wavelength within the visible range has a transmittance greater than 50%, it is considered transparent / semi-transparent.
[0025] The laundry detergent composition(s) of the present disclosure include alkyl ether sulfates derived from renewable fatty alcohols, fatty alcohol ethoxylates derived from renewable fatty alcohols, amine oxides, one or more cleaning polymer(s), 1,2-propanediol, and water, and the compositions are substantially free of dyes and brighteners. The laundry detergent composition(s) may be liquid.
[0026] Alkyl Ether Sulfate The detergent compositions described herein may comprise from about 1% to about 20%, or from about 1% to about 18%, or from about 2% to about 15%, or from about 3% to about 10% of one or more alkyl ether sulfates (also known as alcohol ether sulfates) derived from renewable aliphatic alcohols, by weight of the detergent composition.
[0027] The detergent compositions described herein comprise a compound represented by the formula R 1 -(OCH2CH2) x -O-SO3M, where R 1 is about C8 to about C 20 , or about C8 to about C 16 , or about C 10 ~About C 14 , or about C 12 where x is from about 0.5 to about 8, or x is from about 0.5 to about 5, or x is from about 0.5 to about 3, and M is an alkali metal, ammonium, alkylammonium, or alkanolammonium cation. M may be an alkali metal or ammonium cation.
[0028] The fatty acid alcohol portion of the alkyl ether sulfate (R 1 ) are derived from renewable sources (e.g., animal or vegetable origin) rather than from geological origin (e.g., from petroleum). Fatty alcohols derived from renewable sources are sometimes referred to as natural fatty alcohols. Natural fatty alcohols have an even number of carbon atoms and a single alcohol (-OH) attached to the terminal carbon. The fatty alcohol portion of the surfactant (R 1 ) may include even numbered carbon chain distributions, e.g., C12, C14, C16, C18, etc.
[0029] The fatty alcohol portion of the alkyl ether sulfate (R 1 ) may be derived from natural oils. The natural oils may be selected from the group consisting of coconut oil, palm kernel oil, palm oil, or mixtures thereof. These oils contain the greatest concentrations of triglycerides and free fatty acids with chain lengths of C10-C18, especially C10-C16, and are particularly useful in detergents. The natural oils may contain triglycerides and free fatty acids with chain lengths of C10-C18, or C10-C16.
[0030] The alkyl ether sulfates described herein typically have the formula R 1 -(OCH2CH2) x Rather than a single compound as suggested by -O-SO3M, it is understood that the alkyl ether sulfate comprises a mixture of several homologs having various polyalkylene oxide chain lengths and molecular weights. For example, the ethoxylated alcohol sulfate obtained from conventional potassium hydroxide catalyzed ethoxylation of alcohol with 1, 2, and 3 moles of ethylene oxide is not a single compound containing 1, 2, and 3 (CH2CHO) units, respectively, as the formula may suggest. Rather, the ethoxylated alcohol sulfate is a mixture of several homologs in which the total ethylene oxide units vary from 0 to 10. It is therefore understood that the ethoxylated alcohol sulfate may contain some non-ethoxylated (unreacted) alkyl sulfate.
[0031] The compositions disclosed herein may include one or more types of alkyl ether sulfates, and the different types of alkyl ether sulfates may have different carbon chain lengths and / or degrees of ethoxylation. The compositions disclosed herein may include a mixture of alkyl ether sulfates, which may have an average (arithmetic mean) carbon chain length in the range of about 12 to about 16 carbon atoms, or an average carbon chain length of about 12 carbon atoms, and an average (arithmetic mean) degree of ethoxylation of about 1 mole to 4 moles of ethylene oxide, or an average (arithmetic mean) degree of ethoxylation of 1.0 mole of ethylene oxide.
[0032] Alkyl ether sulfates are generally available as salts (e.g., sodium alkyl ether sulfate). Commercially available alkyl ether sulfates include CALFOAM® alcohol ether sulfate from Pilot Chemical, EMAL®, LEVENOL®, and LATEMAL® products from Kao Corporation, and POLYSTEP® products from Stepan, although most of these have a fairly low EO content (e.g., an average of 3 or 4 EO). Alternatively, alkyl ether sulfates may be prepared by sulfonation of alcohol ethoxylates (i.e., nonionic surfactants); for example, commercially available alkyl ether sulfates with the desired chain length and EO content are not readily found, but alcohol ethoxylates are available.
[0033] Fatty Alcohol Ethoxylates The detergent compositions described herein may comprise from about 1% to about 15%, or from about 1% to about 12%, or from about 2% to about 10%, or from about 3% to about 9%, by weight of the detergent composition, of one or more fatty alcohol ethoxylates derived from renewable fatty alcohols.
[0034] The detergent compositions described herein comprise a compound represented by the formula R 2-(OCH2CH2) y may include one or more fatty alcohol ethoxylates of —OH, where R 2 is about C 10 ~About C 18 , or about C 12 ~About C 16 , or about C 12 ~About C 14 , or about C 16 and y is from about 0.5 to about 15, or from about 2 to about 12, or from about 3 to about 10.
[0035] The fatty acid alcohol portion of the fatty alcohol ethoxylate (R 2 ) are derived from renewable sources (e.g., animal or vegetable origin) rather than from geological origin (e.g., from petroleum). Fatty alcohols derived from renewable sources are sometimes referred to as natural fatty alcohols. Natural fatty alcohols have an even number of carbon atoms and a single alcohol (-OH) attached to the terminal carbon. The fatty alcohol portion of the surfactant (R 2 ) may include even numbered carbon chain distributions, e.g., C12, C14, C16, C18, etc.
[0036] The fatty alcohol portion of fatty alcohol ethoxylate (R 2 ) may be derived from natural oils.
[0037] The fatty alcohol ethoxylates described herein typically have the formula R 2 -(OCH2CH2) yRather than a single compound as suggested by -OH, it is understood that the fatty alcohol ethoxylates include a mixture of several homologs having various polyalkylene oxide chain lengths and molecular weights. For example, the fatty alcohol ethoxylates obtained from conventional potassium hydroxide catalyzed ethoxylation of alcohols with 1, 2, and 3 moles of ethylene oxide are not single compounds containing 1, 2, and 3 (CH2CHO) units, respectively, as the formula may suggest. Rather, the fatty alcohol ethoxylates are mixtures of several homologs with the total ethylene oxide units varying from 0 to 10. It is therefore understood that the fatty alcohol ethoxylates may include some non-ethoxylated (unreacted) fatty alcohol.
[0038] The compositions disclosed herein may include one or more types of fatty alcohol ethoxylates, and the different types of fatty alcohol ethoxylates may have different carbon chain lengths and / or degrees of ethoxylation. The compositions disclosed herein may include a mixture of fatty alcohol ethoxylates, which may have an average (arithmetic mean) carbon chain length in the range of about 12 to about 16 carbon atoms, or an average carbon chain length in the range of about 12 carbon atoms, and may have an average (arithmetic mean) degree of ethoxylation of about 1 mole to about 15 moles of ethylene oxide, or about 3 moles to about 10 moles of ethylene oxide.
[0039] Amine Oxides The detergent compositions described herein may contain from about 0.1% to about 5%, or from about 1% to about 4%, or from about 1% to about 3%, by weight of the detergent composition, of one or more amine oxide surfactants.
[0040] Amine oxides are materials often referred to in the art as "semi-polar" nonionics. The formula for an amine oxide is: 3 N(O)(CH3)2. In this formula, R 3may be saturated or unsaturated, straight or branched chain, and may contain from about 8 to about 20, or from 10 to about 16 carbon atoms, or R 3 is C 12 ~C 16 The detergent compositions described herein are preferably made of a primary alkyl group having a C 12 ~C 14 C 12 ~C 14 Dimethylamine oxide is supplied by Procter & Gamble Chemicals (Cincinnati, USA).
[0041] The amine oxides may be derived from renewable sources such as natural fatty alcohols. It is believed that the amine oxides act synergistically with the anionic surfactants to remove stains.
[0042] Cleaning Polymer The detergent compositions described herein may comprise from about 0.1% to about 5%, or from about 1% to about 4%, or from about 1% to about 3% by weight of the detergent composition of one or more cleaning polymers.

The amphiphilic alkoxylated grease cleaning polymer may include a core structure and a number of alkoxylate groups attached to the core structure. These may include, for example, alkoxylated polyalkyleneimines with an inner polyethylene oxide block and an outer polypropylene oxide block. Such compounds may include, but are not limited to, ethoxylated polyethyleneimines, ethoxylated hexamethylenediamines, and sulfated versions thereof. Polypropoxylated derivatives may also be included. A wide variety of amines and polyalkyleneimines can be alkoxylated to various degrees. A useful example is a 600 g / mole polyethyleneimine core that is ethoxylated to 20 EO groups per NH, available from BASF.
[0047] The detergent compositions described herein may include alkoxylated polycarboxylates. Alkoxylated polycarboxylates, such as those prepared from polyacrylates, may be useful herein to provide additional grease removal performance. Chemically, these materials include polyacrylates with one ethoxy side chain for every 7-8 acrylate units. The side chains are of the formula -(CH2CH2O) m (CH2) nCH3, where m is 2-3 and n is 6-12. The side chains are ester-linked to the polyacrylate "backbone" to provide a comb polymer type structure. Molecular weights can vary but are typically in the range of about 2000 to about 50,000.

The detergent compositions described herein may comprise from about 1% to about 15% by weight of a solvent comprising 1,2-propanediol, renewable 1,2-propanediol, ethanol, cellulosic ethanol, or mixtures thereof. Bio-based propylene glycol is described in U.S. Pat. No. 7,928,148 and is available from ADM. Bio-based 1,3-propanediol is described in U.S. Pat. No. 8,436,046 and is available from DuPont Tate & Lyle Bio Products Company, LLC.
[0056] Biobased propylene glycol may be produced by catalytic hydrogenolysis (hydrogenolysis) of polyols. Catalytic hydrogenolysis is a process in which polyols such as sugars, glycerol, and / or glycols are reacted with hydrogen to produce other polyols. The polyols produced in this manner often contain a mixture of several polyols with lower average molecular weights than the starting materials. The conversion of polyols (such as sugars and glycerol) to polyhydric alcohols (such as propylene glycol and ethylene glycol) by hydrogenolysis or hydrolysis results in the formation of these alcohols as well as several other products such as 1,2-butanediol, 1,3-butanediol, 1,4-butanediol, 2,3-butanediol, and 2,4-pentanediol. These products are recovered as impurities with propylene glycol and ethylene glycol. For example, the production of propylene glycol by hydrogenolysis of higher carbohydrates such as sorbitol typically produces 3-5% by weight of 2,3-butanediol in addition to 1,2-butanediol, ethylene glycol, and 1,3-butanediol. U.S. Patent No. 7,928,148 (citing U.S. Patent No. 4,935,102) discloses a list of polyols produced by hydrogenolysis of sorbitol (Table 1).

[0161] Using standard colorimetric measurements, the L for each stain before and after cleaning was* , a * , and b * Get the value. * , a * , and b * From the value, the stain level is calculated.
[0162] Stain removal from the swatches was measured as follows.
[0163]
number
[0164] Eight replicates of each type of stain are made. The SRI values given below are the average SRI values for each type of stain. The stain level of the fabric before washing (ΔE initial ) is high, but the stains are removed during the washing process, resulting in a low stain level after washing (ΔE washed ) is lowered. The better the stain is removed, the lower the ΔE washed The value of ΔE initial and ΔE washed The difference between (ΔE initial -ΔE washed ) is greater. Therefore, the better the cleaning performance, the higher the Stain Removal Index value.
[0165] [Table 4]
[0166] These results demonstrate the surprising stain removal effectiveness of the composition(s) (F) of the present disclosure compared to several known environmentally friendly laundry detergents (Kirkland Signature™ and Seventh Generation®) and a known conventional laundry detergent (Tide® Original Scent).
[0167] Example 3 - Whiteness Maintenance The difference in CIE Whiteness Index values (D65 illuminant) before and after washing is also measured for additional test fabrics. More negative ΔWI CIE values indicate poorer soil redeposition prevention performance of the formulation. Data is analyzed using analysis of variance techniques.
[0168] New white 50% cotton / 50% polyester knit technical stain swatches are washed in a Whirlpool® front-loading washing machine with 0.1 grams per liter (6 grains per gallon) water hardness at 100 degrees Fahrenheit along with 8.5 pounds of ballast consisting of cotton and polycotton knit swatches and swatches containing soil (e.g., clay soil, artificial body soil). The total amount of liquid detergent used in the test was 49 grams.
[0169] A more negative value of the whiteness index indicates a grayer fabric (a value of 0 corresponds to a new white fabric).
[0170] Whiteness Index ("WI") is a color suitability rating calculated by a formula involving the three components of color measurement (hue, saturation, and lightness), which in turn is an index of standard whiteness value. CIE whiteness is expressed by the formula: WI=Y-(800xx)-(1700xy)+813.7, where Y, x, and y are colorimetric values. Further information is available from the publication by Rolf Griesser, Ciba-Geigy Ltd, "hiteness and Tint", June, 1993.
[0171] [Table 5]
[0172] Table 4 shows the whiteness retention values for Tide® Original Scent HE, composition F of the present disclosure (see Table 2), and Seventh Generation® Lavender & Blue Eucalyptus Natural Laundry Detergent on new white 50% cotton / 50% polyester knit fabric.
[0173] Example 4 Chlorine Scavenging Test Data for Liquid Laundry Detergent Compositions A 2.4 ppm chlorine solution was prepared by adding 0.04 mL of sodium hypochlorite (Clorox bleach, 6% active ingredient) to 1 L of deionized water. This solution was divided into 0.25 L aliquots. Each test detergent was thoroughly mixed with each chlorine solution at a concentration that would result in front-loading washing machine conditions (0.60 g detergent per 0.25 L of chlorine water). The free chlorine scavenging ability of each detergent was measured according to the instructions in the Free Chlorine Test Kit, CHEMets® Kit K-2505, and the Free Chlorine Residual (FCR) was measured for each detergent. The Chlorine Storing Efficiency (CSE) of each detergent was calculated as follows:

[0175] Test Formulations: Formulas G, H, I, and J each contained the same raw material concentrations, with the following exceptions: Formula G contained 2.5% amine oxide, 0.45% DTPA, 1.5% ethoxylated polyethyleneimine, and 1.3% amphiphilic alkoxylated grease cleaning polymer. Formula H did not contain amine oxide, DTPA, ethoxylated polyethyleneimine, or amphiphilic alkoxylated grease cleaning polymer. Formula I did not contain amine oxide, DTPA, or amphiphilic alkoxylated grease cleaning polymer, and contained 1.5% ethoxylated polyethyleneimine. Formula J did not contain amine oxide, DTPA, ethoxylated polyethyleneimine, and contained 1.3% amphiphilic alkoxylated grease cleaning polymer.
[0176] [Table 6] 4. Polyethylenimine (MW=600) with 20 ethoxylate groups per -NH. 5. The amphiphilic alkoxylated grease cleaning polymer is a polyethyleneimine (MW=600) with 24 ethoxyl groups per -NH and 16 propoxyl groups per -NH. 6. DTPA is the chelating agent diethylenetetraminepentaacetic acid manufactured by Dow Chemical (Midland, Michigan, USA).
[0177] result:
[0178] [Table 7] 1. See Table 2 for composition.
[0179] These results show that compositions comprising one or more alkoxylated polyethyleneimine polymers and bio-based alkyl ether sulfates, and substantially free of monoethanolamine, can remove over 96% of free chlorine from the wash liquor, whereas known environmentally friendly compositions were only able to remove 21% of the free chlorine. Free chlorine in the wash liquor has been shown to cause color fading over multiple wash cycles. The ability to remove free chlorine from the wash solution can help maintain the color of colored fabrics and extend the life of colored fabrics.
