[0004] However, in the light emitting device described in Patent Document 1, the number of parallel LED elements in each group is the same, and the same current value flows through each LED element, so the amount of light emitted by each LED element is also the same. Therefore, it is difficult for the lighting device using the light emitting device described in Patent Document 1 to strengthen the illumination in a specific direction.
[0005] Therefore, an object of the present invention is to provide a light-emitting device and a lighting device using the light-emitting device, which have areas with high average luminance and areas with low average luminance on the light exit surface, thereby making it possible to efficiently strengthen irradiation in a specific direction. [Means for solving the problem]

[0007] In addition, the light-emitting device of the present invention has at least one first light-emitting element group in which the multiple first light-emitting elements are arranged, and the gap between each element of the multiple first light-emitting elements constituting the first light-emitting element row is smaller than the element size of the first light-emitting element, and the multiple first light-emitting elements are connected in series, while the second light-emitting element group has multiple second light-emitting element rows in which the multiple second light-emitting elements are arranged, and the gap between each element of the multiple second light-emitting elements constituting the second light-emitting element row is smaller than the element size of the second light-emitting element, and the multiple second light-emitting elements are connected in series.
[0008] Moreover, an illumination device according to the present invention includes the above light-emitting device and a concentrator disposed above the light exit surface. Effect of the Invention
[0009] According to the light emitting device of the present invention, the average brightness of light emitted from the first light emission region including the center of gravity of the light emission surface is made higher than the average brightness of light emitted from the second light emission region that does not include the first light emission region, thereby making it possible to efficiently strengthen the irradiation from the light emitting device in a specific direction.
[0010] In addition, according to the light-emitting device of the present invention, the gaps between each element of the multiple first light-emitting elements constituting the first light-emitting element row are set to be smaller than the element size of the first light-emitting elements, and the gaps between each element of the multiple second light-emitting elements constituting the second light-emitting element row are set to be smaller than the element size of the second light-emitting elements, thereby suppressing the occurrence of color unevenness in the light emitted from the light-emitting device.

The light-emitting elements constituting the second light-emitting element column 73 arranged on the other side are composed of the same second light-emitting elements 32 as the light-emitting elements constituting the second light-emitting element column 72 arranged on one side. The number of second light-emitting elements 32 constituting the second light-emitting element column 73 is the same as the number of second light-emitting elements 32 constituting the second light-emitting element column 72.
[0023] The number of columns of the first light-emitting element rows 71 constituting the first light-emitting element group 61 is less than the sum of the number of columns of the second light-emitting element rows 72, 73 constituting the pair of second light-emitting element groups 62, 63. In this embodiment, the second light emitting element 32 is a light emitting element having the same characteristics as the first light emitting element 31.
[0026] The mounting area 50 is an area on the upper surface of the substrate 10 where a plurality of first light emitting elements 31 and a plurality of second light emitting elements 32 constituting the light emitting element group 60 are mounted, and has a first mounting area 51 and a pair of second mounting areas 52, 53 arranged on both sides of the first mounting area 51. The first mounting area 51 and the second mounting areas 52, 53 are arranged adjacent to each other in a striped pattern. Furthermore, the first mounting area 51 is arranged between a pair of second mounting areas 52, 53 on the left and right sides in a surface area including the center of gravity of the light emitting surface 40, that is, in the center of the mounting area 50. Moreover, the second mounting areas 52, 53 are arranged in a spaced relationship with the first mounting area 51 interposed therebetween. The mounting area 50 preferably has a rectangular planar shape. Boundary lines L12, L13 indicating the boundaries between the first mounting area 51 and the second mounting areas 52, 53 are preferably straight lines parallel to the second direction shown in FIG. 2. [0027] A plurality of first light emitting elements 31 constituting the first light emitting element group 61 are mounted in the first mounting region 51. No light emitting elements constituting the light emitting element group other than the first light emitting element group 61 are mounted in the first mounting region 51. The planar shape of the first mounting region 51 is preferably the smallest rectangle that includes all of the plurality of first light emitting elements 31 mounted in the first mounting region 51. The first light emitting elements 31 mounted in the first mounting region 51 may be arranged at equal intervals parallel to the first direction shown in FIG. 2, or may be arranged at equal intervals parallel to the second direction. In this embodiment, the first light emitting elements 31 mounted in the first mounting region 51 are arranged at intervals of 1.0 mm parallel to the first direction and at intervals of 1.0 mm parallel to the second direction. In that case, the gap between adjacent first light emitting elements 32 is 0.3 mm, which is smaller than the size of each vertical and horizontal side of each element of the first light emitting element 31. The size of each vertical and horizontal side of the element is also referred to as the element size.
[0028] In the second mounting region 52, 53, a plurality of second light-emitting elements 32 constituting the second light-emitting element group 62, 63 are mounted. In the second mounting region 52, 53, light-emitting elements constituting light-emitting element groups other than the second light-emitting element group 62, 63 are not mounted. The planar shape of the second mounting region 52, 53 is preferably the smallest rectangle that includes all of the plurality of second light-emitting elements 32 mounted in the second mounting region 52, 53. The second light-emitting elements 32 mounted in the second mounting region 52, 53 may be arranged at equal intervals parallel to the first direction, or may be arranged at equal intervals parallel to the second direction. The interval length at which the second light-emitting elements 32 mounted in the second mounting region 52, 53 are arranged in the first direction may be equal to or longer than the interval length at which the first light-emitting elements 31 mounted in the first mounting region 51 are arranged in the first direction. The length of the interval at which the second light-emitting elements 32 mounted in the second mounting regions 52 and 53 are arranged in the second direction may be equal to or greater than the length of the interval at which the first light-emitting elements 31 mounted in the first mounting region 51 are arranged in the second direction. In this embodiment, the second light-emitting elements 32 mounted in the second mounting regions 52 and 53 are arranged at intervals of 1.0 mm parallel to the first direction, and at intervals of 1.0 mm parallel to the second direction. In this case, the gap between adjacent second light-emitting elements 32 is 0.3 mm, which is smaller than the size of each of the vertical and horizontal sides of each element of the second light-emitting element 32.
[0029] The above-mentioned first direction is a direction in which the first mounting area 51 and the second mounting areas 52 and 53 are adjacently arranged in a striped pattern. Moreover, the second direction is a direction perpendicular to the first direction on the upper surface of the substrate 10.

[0031] In this embodiment, the gaps between the first light-emitting element 31 and the second light-emitting element 32, the gaps between the first light-emitting element rows 71 and the second light-emitting element rows 72, 73, and the gaps between the first light-emitting element row 71 and the second light-emitting element rows 72, 73 are all smaller than the vertical and horizontal side sizes of each element, so that the light emitted from the light emission region of this light-emitting device is well mixed between the elements, and color unevenness is suppressed. Therefore, a lighting device using this light-emitting device can provide an excellent lighting effect with little color unevenness.
[0032] The first power supply pad 81, the counter electrode pad 84, the second power supply pad 82, and the third power supply pad 83 are wiring patterns formed of a conductive thin film such as copper arranged on the upper surface of the substrate 10 near the mounting area 50. [0034] The counter electrode pad 84 is disposed on the upper surface of the substrate 10 near the mounting area 50 facing the first power supply pad 81 with the first mounting area 51 therebetween. The counter electrode pad 84 is connected to the cathode electrodes of the first light emitting elements 31 in the final stage of each of the first light emitting element rows 71 constituting the first light emitting element group 61 via the bonding wires 14. The counter electrode pad 84 is also connected to the anode electrodes of the second light emitting elements 32 in the initial stage of each of the second light emitting element rows 72, 73 constituting the second light emitting element groups 62, 63 via the bonding wires 14. The light emitting element in the final stage of the light emitting element row described in the specification means a light emitting element whose cathode electrode is connected to the power supply pad via a bonding wire at the other end of the light emitting element row composed of a plurality of light emitting elements connected in series.
[0035] The second power supply pad 82 and the third power supply pad 83 are disposed on the upper surface of the substrate 10 near the second mounting areas 52, 53 facing the counter electrode pad 84 with the second mounting areas 52, 53 therebetween. The second power supply pad 82 and the third power supply pad 83 are connected to the second power supply terminal 22 via a second power supply wiring 92. The second power supply pad 82 and the third power supply pad 83 are connected via bonding wires 14 to the cathode electrodes of the second light-emitting elements 32 in the final stages of the second light-emitting element rows 72, 73 that constitute the second light-emitting element groups 62, 63, respectively.
[0036] The first power supply pad 81, the second power supply pad 82, and the third power supply pad 83 are arranged on the upper surface of the substrate 10 near the same side of the mounting area 50 facing the counter electrode pad 84 with the mounting area 50 therebetween.
[0037] The bonding wire 14 is a wire made of a conductor such as gold or copper. The locations electrically connected by the bonding wire 14 may be connected by a wiring pattern made of a conductive thin film of copper or the like disposed on the upper surface of the substrate 10 instead of the bonding wire 14.
[0038] The first power supply wiring 91 and the second power supply wiring 92 are wiring patterns formed of a conductive thin film such as copper arranged on the upper surface of the substrate 10. The first power supply wiring 91 connects the first power supply terminal 21 and the first power supply pad 81. The first power supply wiring 91 and the second power supply wiring 92 may be covered with an insulating film 13 also called a solder resist. The first power supply wiring 91 and the second power supply wiring 92 may each be composed of a plurality of wiring patterns connected via a conductive jumper member. An electronic member such as a Zener diode or a capacitor may be connected between the first power supply wiring 91 and the second power supply wiring 92.
[0039] The reflective frame 11 is made of a synthetic resin such as a silicone resin containing white particles such as titanium oxide, and has a light reflectance of 80% or more. The reflective frame 11 is disposed on the upper surface of the substrate 10 so as to surround the light emitting element group 60, and serves as a dam to prevent the sealing material 12 from flowing out.
[0040] The sealing material 12 is a synthetic resin material containing a phosphor, with a transparent resin such as silicone resin as a base material. The sealing material 12 is arranged so as to cover the mounting area 50 and the light-emitting element group 60 in the area surrounded by the reflecting frame 11. The phosphor contained in the sealing material 12 is, for example, YAG, CASN, SCASN, KSF, or a mixture of these, and is a wavelength conversion member that absorbs the blue light emitted by the first light-emitting element 31 and the second light-emitting element 32 and emits light with the wavelength converted to red, green, yellow, or the like.
[0041] The light emitting device 1 emits a composite light of blue light emitted from the first light emitting element 31 and the second light emitting element 32 and wavelength-converted light emitted from the phosphor contained in the sealing material 12 from the light emission surface 40, which is the upper surface of the sealing material 12.
[0042] The light exit surface 40 formed in a rectangular shape has a first light exit region 41 in the center, which is a surface region including the center of gravity of the light exit surface 40, and a pair of second light exit regions 42, 43 disposed on both sides thereof, which are surface regions not including the first light exit region 41. The first light exit region 41 and the second light exit regions 42, 43 respectively indicate regions that overlap with the first mounting region 51 and the second mounting regions 52, 53 in a plan view at the same positions and with the same shapes.
[0043] 1A, 1B and 3, when a potential difference equal to or greater than a threshold is applied between the first power supply terminal 21 and the second power supply terminal 22, a current flows from the first power supply terminal 21 to the second power supply terminal 22, and power is supplied. When a current flows from the first power supply terminal 21 to the second power supply terminal 22, a plurality of first light-emitting elements 31 and a plurality of second light-emitting elements 32 constituting a light-emitting element group 60 mounted in the mounting area 50 are lighted up, as shown in FIG.
[0044] The number of columns of the first light-emitting element rows 71 constituting the first light-emitting element group 61 is smaller than the total number of columns of the second light-emitting element rows 72, 73 constituting the second light-emitting element groups 62, 63. Therefore, the current value of the current flowing through each of the multiple first light-emitting elements 31 constituting the first light-emitting element group 61 is larger than the current value of the current flowing through each of the multiple second light-emitting elements 32 constituting the second light-emitting element groups 62, 63.
[0045] Therefore, the luminous flux of light emitted by each of the multiple first light-emitting elements 31 constituting the first light-emitting element group 61 mounted in the first mounting area 51 is greater than the luminous flux of light emitted by each of the multiple second light-emitting elements 32 constituting the second light-emitting element group 62, 63.
[0046] The plurality of first light-emitting elements 31 constituting the first light-emitting element group 61 and the plurality of second light-emitting elements 32 constituting the second light-emitting element groups 62, 63 are disposed at equal intervals in the first mounting area 51 and the second mounting areas 52, 53. Therefore, the average luminance of the light emitted from the first light emitting area 41 is higher than the average luminance of the light emitted from the second light emitting areas 42, 43.
[0047] 4A and 4B are diagrams showing the shift of the front chromaticity when the row number ratio is set to 1, 2, 3, and 4. Here, the "row number ratio" is the value obtained by dividing the sum of the row number of the first light-emitting element row 71 constituting the first light-emitting element group 61 and the row number of the second light-emitting element row 72, 73 constituting the second light-emitting element group 62, 63. The black points shown in FIG. 4A and FIG. 4B are XY chromaticity coordinates showing the centers of the color temperatures of 2700K and 5000K standardized in ANSI NEMA ANSLG C78.377-2015. The ranges surrounded by the rectangles shown in FIG. 4A and FIG. 4B are XY chromaticity coordinates showing the allowable ranges of the color temperatures of 2700K and 5000K standardized in ANSI NEMA ANSLG C78.377-2015.
[0048] As shown in Fig. 4A, if the phosphor contained in the encapsulant 12 is set so that the color temperature falls within the allowable range of 2700K when the row number ratio is 1, then if the row number ratio is set to 4, it will fall outside the allowable range, and the phosphor setting conditions must be changed. On the other hand, if the row number ratio is 3 or less, it will fall within the allowable range, and there is no need to change the phosphor setting conditions. Therefore, a row number ratio of 3 or less is preferable.
[0049] Furthermore, as shown in Fig. 4B, if the phosphor contained in the encapsulant 12 is set so that the color temperature falls within the allowable range of 5000K when the row number ratio is set to 1, then a row number ratio of 3 will deviate from the allowable range, and the phosphor setting conditions must be changed. On the other hand, if the row number ratio is 2 or less, it will fall within the allowable range, and there is no need to change the phosphor setting conditions. Therefore, a row number ratio of 2 or less is even more preferable.
[0050] Next, the relationship between the spacing of the light emitting elements relative to the element size of each light emitting element constituting the light emitting element group 60 on the light emitting surface 40 in the light emitting device 1 and color unevenness will be described with reference to Figs. 5 to 7. The spacing of the light emitting elements is also called the element pitch. Fig. 5 shows a schematic diagram of color unevenness in the light emitted from the collector of the light emitting device, with the ring-shaped black band 8 indicating a portion where the light emitted from each light emitting element appears as well mixed light, and the ring-shaped white band 9 indicating a portion where the light emitted from each light emitting element is not sufficiently mixed and appears as color unevenness. The light emitted from the collector has a larger aberration in the sagittal direction B (rotation direction) than the aberration in the tangential direction A (radiation direction), so that the color unevenness appears in multiple concentric circles as shown in Fig. 5.
[0051] Figure 6 shows examples of element size ratios that vary depending on the element arrangement. Incidentally, element size ratio is expressed as element size / element pitch. The example of an element arrangement shown in (a) is when the element size is 1 and the element pitch is 5, resulting in an element size ratio of approximately 20%. In this case, the gap between elements is four times the element size. The example of an element arrangement shown in (b) is when the element size is 1 and the element pitch is 2, resulting in an element size ratio of approximately 50%. In this case, the gap between elements is approximately the same as the element size. The example of an element arrangement shown in (c) is when the element size is 1 and the element pitch is 1.25, resulting in an element size ratio of 80%. In this case, the gap between elements is significantly smaller than the element size.
[0052] Figure 7 is a graph showing the area ratio of color unevenness of a light-emitting device versus element size ratio. The area ratio of color unevenness was calculated based on the area of black band 8 and the area of white band 9 in Figure 5 above. Incidentally, it is expressed as area ratio of color unevenness = area of white band / area of black band + area of white band. According to this graph, it can be seen that the area ratio of color unevenness changes significantly when the element size ratio reaches the border of 50%, and color unevenness is unlikely to occur above 50%. In other words, it can be seen that the occurrence of color unevenness can be effectively suppressed by setting the gap between adjacent elements to be the same as or smaller than the element size.
[0053] 8 shows a light emitting device 1-1 according to a second embodiment of the present invention. In this light emitting device 1-1, the periphery of a light emitting surface 40 formed in a rectangle is surrounded by a rectangular reflecting frame 11. As in the previous embodiment, the light emitting surface 40 is composed of a first light emitting region in the center, which is a surface region including the center of gravity of the light emitting surface, and a pair of second light emitting regions arranged on both sides of the first light emitting region. A first light emitting element group 60 corresponds to the first light emitting region, and second light emitting element groups 62 and 63 correspond to the second light emitting region, respectively, and the first and second light emitting element groups constitute a light emitting element group mounted in the mounting region of the light emitting surface.
[0054] In this embodiment, the first light-emitting element group 61 is a light-emitting element group composed of three first light-emitting element columns 71. The first light-emitting element column 71 is a light-emitting element column composed of six first light-emitting elements 31. The first light-emitting elements 31 constituting the first light-emitting element column 71 are connected in series by bonding wires 14. The three first light-emitting element columns 71 constituting the first light-emitting element group 61 are connected in parallel by bonding wires 14 between a first power supply pad 81 and a counter electrode pad 84 arranged on either side of the first light-emitting element column 71.
[0055] The second light-emitting element groups 62, 63 arranged on both sides of the first light-emitting element group 61 are light-emitting element groups each composed of two second light-emitting element columns 72, 73. The second light-emitting element columns 72, 73 are light-emitting element columns composed of six second light-emitting elements 32. The second light-emitting element columns 72, 73 are connected in series by bonding wires 14. The second light-emitting element columns 72, 73 arranged on both sides of the second light-emitting element columns 72, 73 are connected in parallel by bonding wires 14 between the counter electrode pad 84 and the second and third power supply pads 82 and 83 arranged on both sides of the second light-emitting element columns 72, 73.
[0056] In this embodiment, the gap between the first light emitting element 31 and the second light emitting element 32 is smaller than the size of the light emitting element. In addition, the gap between the first light emitting element row 71 and the second light emitting element row 72, 73 is also smaller than the size of the light emitting element.
[0057] In the light emitting device 1-1 according to this embodiment, a first power supply pad 81, a second power supply pad 82, a third power supply pad 83 and a counter electrode pad 84 are provided on the lower surface side of a rectangular frame-shaped reflecting frame 11 surrounding a light emission surface 40, the first power supply pad 81 is connected to a first power supply terminal (not shown), and the second power supply pad 82 and the third power supply pad 83 are connected to a second power supply terminal (not shown). When a current flows from the first power supply terminal to the second power supply terminal, a plurality of first light emitting elements 31 and a plurality of second light emitting elements 32 constituting a light emitting element group mounted in the mounting area are lighted up.
[0058] As in the first embodiment, the number of columns of the first light-emitting element rows 71 constituting the first light-emitting element group 61 is smaller than the number of columns of the second light-emitting element rows 72, 73 constituting the second light-emitting element groups 62, 63. Therefore, the current value of the current flowing through each of the multiple first light-emitting elements 31 constituting the first light-emitting element group 61 is larger than the current value of the current flowing through each of the multiple second light-emitting elements 32 constituting the second light-emitting element groups 62, 63. Therefore, the luminous flux amount of the light emitted by each of the multiple first light-emitting elements 31 constituting the first light-emitting element group 61 mounted in the first mounting area is larger than the luminous flux amount of the light emitted by each of the multiple second light-emitting elements 32 constituting the second light-emitting element groups 62, 63. In addition, the multiple first light-emitting elements 31 constituting the first light-emitting element group 61 and the multiple second light-emitting elements 32 constituting the second light-emitting element groups 62, 63 are arranged at equal intervals in the first mounting area and the second mounting area, respectively. Therefore, the average luminance of the light emitted from the first light emitting region is higher than the average luminance of the light emitted from the second light emitting region.
[0059] 9 shows a light emitting device 1-2 according to a third embodiment of the present invention. This light emitting device 1-2 has the same configuration as the light emitting device 1-1 according to the second embodiment, except for the shape of the light emitting surface 40, the shape of the reflecting frame 11, and the arrangement of the light emitting elements. Therefore, the same reference numerals are given to the common components, and detailed descriptions are omitted. This light emitting device 1-2 has a light emitting surface 40 formed in a circular shape surrounded by a ring-shaped reflecting frame 11. In addition, the first power supply pad 81, the second power supply pad 82, the third power supply pad 83, and the counter electrode pad 84 are provided on the lower surface side of the rectangular reflecting frame 11 surrounding the light emitting surface 40.
[0060] In this embodiment, the three first light-emitting element rows 71 constituting the first light-emitting element group 61 have three first light-emitting elements 31 at both ends of each row arranged at positions close to the reflecting frame 11, specifically at each vertex of a triangle. The two second light-emitting element rows 72, 73 constituting the second light-emitting element groups 62, 63 are arranged so as to draw a curve along the reflecting frame. In this way, the arrangement of the first light-emitting elements 31 and the second light-emitting elements 32 corresponds to the circular light exit surface 40, so that sufficient brightness and color unevenness can be suppressed in the portion of the light exit surface 40 close to the reflecting frame 11.
[0061] A light emitting device 1-3 according to a fourth embodiment of the present invention is shown in Fig. 10. This light emitting device 1-3 has the same configuration as the light emitting device 1-1 according to the second embodiment except for the arrangement shape of the light emitting elements and the number of light emitting element rows, and therefore common components are given the same reference numerals and detailed descriptions thereof will be omitted.
[0062] In this embodiment, the first light-emitting element row 71 constituting the first light-emitting element group 61 is only one row. Moreover, the six first light-emitting elements 31 constituting the first light-emitting element row 71 are arranged in the center of the light-emitting surface 40. On the other hand, the second light-emitting element rows 72, 73 constituting the second light-emitting element groups 62, 63 are made up of a total of 12 second light-emitting elements 32, and are arranged to surround the periphery of the first light-emitting element 31. Note that two rows of the second light-emitting element rows 72, 73 are made up of six second light-emitting elements 32 each. In this way, the first light-emitting element 31 is arranged in the central portion of the light-emitting surface 40, and the second light-emitting elements 32 surround the periphery, so that the luminance of the central portion of the light-emitting surface 40 is high and the periphery is uniformly bright.
[0063] 11 and 12 show a light emitting device 1-4 according to a fifth embodiment of the present invention. In this light emitting device 1-4, a pair of second light emitting element groups 62, 63 are arranged on both sides of a first light emitting element group 61 in the mounting area of the light emitting surface 40, a first power source pad 81 is connected to one of the pair of second light emitting element groups 62, 63, and a second power source pad 82 is connected to the other. The first power source pad 81 and the second power source pad 82 are provided on the lower surface side of a ring-shaped reflecting frame 11 surrounding the light emitting surface 40, and when a current flows from a first power source terminal (not shown) to a second power source terminal 22, the multiple first light emitting elements 31 constituting the first light emitting element group 61 and the multiple second light emitting elements 32 constituting the second light emitting element groups 62, 63 are turned on.
[0064] The first light-emitting element group 61 includes two first light-emitting element columns 71, each of which includes two first light-emitting elements 31. A pair of second light-emitting element groups 62, 63 each includes four second light-emitting element columns 72, 73, each of which includes one second light-emitting element 32. The two first light-emitting element columns 71 are connected in parallel. The four second light-emitting element columns 72, 73 are also connected in parallel, but the first light-emitting element columns 71 and the second light-emitting element columns 72, 73 are directly connected in series by bonding wires 14 without an electrode pad therebetween.
[0065] The first light-emitting element 31 of the first element row 71 and the second light-emitting element 32 of the second light-emitting element row 72, 73 that are directly connected may have a plurality of bonding wires 14 connected to their respective anode electrodes or cathode electrodes. The number of bonding wires 14 connected to one anode electrode or cathode electrode is preferably two or less from the standpoint of process and durability. That is, the row number ratio, which is the sum of the number of rows of the first light-emitting element row 71 constituting the first light-emitting element group 61 divided by the number of rows of the second light-emitting element row 72, 73 constituting the second light-emitting element group 62, 63, is preferably 2 or less.
[0066] 10, four first light-emitting elements 31 are arranged in the center of the light exit surface 40, and are surrounded by eight second light-emitting elements 32. In this embodiment, the first light-emitting elements 31 are arranged in the center of the light exit surface 40 and are surrounded by the second light-emitting elements 32, so that the brightness of the center of the light exit surface 40 is high and the brightness of the surrounding area is uniform.
[0067] FIG. 13 shows a light emitting device 1-5 according to the sixth embodiment of the present invention. This light emitting device 1-5 is similar to the light emitting device 1-4 according to the fifth embodiment in that a pair of second light emitting element groups 62, 63 are arranged on both sides of the first light emitting element group 61, a first power source pad 81 is connected to one of the pair of second light emitting element groups 62, 63, and a second power source pad 82 is connected to the other. On the other hand, the light emitting device 1-5 is different from the light emitting device 1-4 according to the fifth embodiment in that a first light emitting element row 71 constituting the first light emitting element group 61 and a second light emitting element row 72, 73 constituting the pair of second light emitting element groups 62, 63 are connected by a counter electrode pad. Specifically, a counter electrode pad 84a is connected to the other end of the second light emitting element row 72 connected to the first power source pad 81 and one end of the first light emitting element row 71, and a counter electrode pad 84b is connected to one end of the second light emitting element row 73 connected to the other end of the first light emitting element row 71 and the second power source pad 82. These power pads and electrode pads are provided on the underside of a rectangular or ring-shaped reflective frame surrounding the light emission surface, and when current flows from the first power terminal to the second power terminal, the multiple first light-emitting elements 31 that make up the first light-emitting element group 61 and the multiple second light-emitting elements 32 that make up the second light-emitting element groups 62, 63 are illuminated.
[0068] The first light-emitting element group 61 includes two first light-emitting element columns 71, each of which includes two first light-emitting elements 31. A pair of second light-emitting element groups 62, 63 each includes three second light-emitting element columns 72, 73, each of which includes three second light-emitting elements 32. The two first light-emitting element columns 71 are connected in parallel. The three second light-emitting element columns 72, 73 are also connected in parallel, but the first light-emitting element columns 71 and the second light-emitting element columns 72, 73 are connected in series via opposing electrode pads 84a, 84b between them.
[0069] Fig. 14A is a characteristic diagram (part 1) showing the luminous intensity distribution of the lighting device using the lighting device 3 according to this embodiment shown in Figs. 15A and 15B and the light emitting device 2 according to the comparative example shown in Figs. 17A and 17B, and Fig. 14B is a characteristic diagram (part 2) showing the luminous intensity distribution of the lighting device using the lighting device 3 according to this embodiment and the light emitting device 2 according to the comparative example. The lighting device 3 according to this embodiment uses the light emitting device 1 according to the first embodiment.
[0070] FIG. 15A is a front view of the illumination device 3 according to this embodiment, and FIG. 15B is a plan view of the illumination device 3 according to this embodiment.
[0071] The lighting device 3 according to this embodiment includes a light emitting device 1, a reflector 4 as a collector that collects and emits light emitted by the light emitting device 1, and a base 5 having a flat upper surface on which the light emitting device 1 and the reflector 4 are mounted. The light emitting device 1 is placed on the upper surface of the base 5, and emits light when power is supplied from an external power source (not shown).
[0072] The reflector 4 has a top opening 402 and a bottom opening 403, and has a reflecting surface 401 between the top opening 402 and the bottom opening 403. The bottom opening 403 is an opening that is installed on the top surface of the base 5 so as to cover the light emitting device 1. The reflecting surface 401 is a reflecting surface that reflects the light emitted by the light emitting device 1 toward the top opening 402. The top opening 402 is an opening that emits the light reflected by the reflecting surface 401. In a plan view, the outer shape of the reflecting surface 401 is circular, and the reflecting surface 401 is installed so that the center of gravity of the light emitting surface 40 of the light emitting device 1 coincides with the center of the circle that is the outer shape of the reflecting surface 401. In a plan view, the light emitted from the center of the circle that is the outer shape of the reflecting surface 401 is condensed and efficiently emitted from the top opening 402. As an example, the diameter of the outermost shape of the reflecting surface 401 is 60 mm, and the distance from the bottom opening 403 to the top opening 402 is 45 mm. Note that a collector other than the reflector 4 may be, for example, a collecting lens 7 as shown in Fig. 16. The collecting lens 7 is disposed so as to cover the upper part of the light emitting device 1, and has an incident surface 7a on which the light emitted from the light emitting device 1 is incident, a reflecting surface 7b which reflects the light that has entered the lens, and an exit surface 7c which emits the light inside the lens upward.
[0073] The lighting device 3 emits light with luminous intensity Lθ (cd) in a direction at an angle θ (°) with respect to an axis P that passes through the center of a circle that is the outline of the reflecting surface 401 in a plan view and extends parallel to the normal direction of the upper surface of the base 5. The luminous intensity Lθ is measured using a photometer (not shown) at a position equidistant from point O, which is the intersection point between the axis P and the upper surface of the base 5. The distance between point O and the position where the luminous intensity is measured is a distance called the far field region, and is, for example, 1 m.
[0074] The lighting device using the light emitting device 2 according to the comparative example differs from the lighting device 3 in that the light emitting device 2 is used instead of the light emitting device 1. The configurations and functions of the components other than the light emitting device 2 are almost the same as those of the lighting device 3.
[0075] Fig. 17A is a front view of a light emitting device 2 according to a comparative example, and Fig. 17B is a circuit diagram of the light emitting device 2 according to the comparative example. In Fig. 17A, the bonding wires 14 are omitted.
[0076] The light emitting device 2 according to the comparative example differs from the light emitting device 1 in that it has a first power wiring 291, a second power wiring 292, and a first power pad 281 instead of the first power wiring 91, the second power wiring 92, and the first power pad 81, and does not have the second power pad 82 and the third power pad 83. The light emitting device 2 according to the comparative example also differs from the light emitting device 1 in that it does not have the second light emitting element 32, has the same number of first light emitting elements 31 as the number of first light emitting elements 31 and second light emitting elements 32 of the light emitting device 1, and the first light emitting elements 31 of the light emitting device 2 are connected in the same direction. The configurations and functions of the components of the light emitting device 2 other than the first power wiring 291, the second power wiring 292, the first power pad 281, and the first light emitting element 31 are the same as the configurations and functions of the components of the light emitting device 1 with the same reference numerals, and therefore detailed description will be omitted.
[0077] The light emitting device 2 has a pair of power terminals, a first power terminal 21 and a second power terminal 22. The first power terminal 21 is connected to a first power pad 281 via a first power wiring 291, and the second power terminal 22 is connected to a counter electrode pad 84 via a second power wiring 292. A light emitting element row in which eight first light emitting elements 31 are connected in series via a bonding wire 14 is arranged between the first power pad 281 and the counter electrode pad 84. Then, ten rows of the light emitting elements are connected in parallel in the same direction, so that eighty first light emitting elements 31 are connected between the first power terminal 21 and the second power terminal 22. Each light emitting element row has a first light emitting element 31 in the first stage whose anode electrode is connected to the first power pad 281 via the bonding wire 14, and a first light emitting element 31 in the last stage whose cathode electrode is connected to the counter electrode pad 84 via the bonding wire 14.
[0078] When power is supplied between the first power terminal 21 and the second power terminal 22 of the light emitting device 2, a current of the same current value flows through each of the 80 first light emitting elements 31 connected between the first power terminal 21 and the second power terminal 22, and therefore the luminous flux of light emitted by each first light emitting element 31 is equal.
[0079] W1 and W2 shown in Fig. 14A are curves showing the luminous intensity distribution when the same amount of power W is supplied to the lighting device 3 using the light-emitting device 1 and the lighting device using the light-emitting device 2, respectively. The horizontal axis of the characteristic diagram shown in Fig. 14A shows the value of the light emission angle θ (unit: degree), and the vertical axis shows the value of the normalized luminous intensity ratio at θ, which shows the value of the luminous intensity ratio normalized with the luminous intensity Lθ at θ=0 being 1.00 when the lighting device using the light-emitting device 2 is supplied with power of the amount of power W.
[0080] In FIG. 14A, the value of W2 at θ=0 is 1.00, whereas the value of W1 is 1.15. In the range of -5≦θ≦5, the value of W1 is larger than the value of W2, and the difference between the values of W1 and W2 is 0.03 or more. In the vicinity of θ=±6.5, the values of W1 and W2 are equal, and in the range of θ≦-7 or 7≦θ, the value of W1 is smaller than the value of W2, and the difference between the values of W1 and W2 is -0.01 or more and 0.00 or less. The illumination device 3 according to this embodiment can enhance illumination in a specific direction, compared to an illumination device using a light-emitting device 2 supplied with the same amount of power W.
[0081] The horizontal and vertical axes of the characteristic diagram shown in FIG. 14B indicate the same values as those indicated by the horizontal and vertical axes of the characteristic diagram shown in FIG. 14A.
[0082] W1 shown in Fig. 14B is the same as W1 shown in Fig. 14A, and is a curve showing the luminous intensity distribution when power of power amount W is supplied to the lighting device 3. W3 is a curve showing the luminous intensity distribution when power of power amount Wa is supplied to a lighting device using the light-emitting device 2. The power amount Wa is an amount of power set so that the value of W3 at θ=0 is equal to the value of W1 at θ=0, and as an example, the power amount Wa is 1.2 times the power amount W.
[0083] In Fig. 14B, the values of W1 and W3 are both 1.15 when θ = 0. In the range of values other than θ = 0, the value of W3 is higher than W1. For example, the value of W1 when θ = 6.5 is 0.66, and the value of W3 is 0.76.
[0084] The illumination device 3 supplies less electric power than an illumination device using the light-emitting device 2 set to the same luminous intensity in the front direction.
[0085] Compared with the light emitting device 2, the light emitting device 1 according to this embodiment can efficiently enhance illumination in a specific direction.
[0086] The horizontal and vertical axes of the characteristic diagram shown in Fig. 14C indicate the same values as those indicated by the horizontal and vertical axes of the characteristic diagram shown in Fig. 14A. W2 shown in Fig. 14C is the same as W2 shown in Fig. 14A, and is a curve showing the luminous intensity distribution when the amount of electric power W is supplied to the lighting device using the light-emitting device 2. W4 is a curve showing the luminous intensity distribution when the amount of electric power Wb is supplied to the lighting device 3. The amount of electric power Wb is set to be lower than the amount of electric power W, and the value of W4 is higher than the value of W2 when θ<|5|, and the value of W4 is lower than the value of W2 when θ>|5|. As an example, the amount of electric power Wb is 0.96 times the amount of electric power W.
[0087] In FIG. 14C, the value of W4 at θ=0 is 1.10, which is higher than W2, the value of W4 at θ<|5| is higher than W2, the value of W4 at θ=|5| is almost the same as W2, and the value of W4 at θ>|5| is lower than W2.
[0088] Compared to an illumination device using a light-emitting device 2 set to the same luminous intensity in the forward direction, the illumination device 3 can strengthen the emission in a specific direction (for example, in the range of θ<|5|), weaken the emission in directions other than the specific direction (for example, in the range of θ>|5|), and reduce the amount of power supplied.
[0089] FIG. 18 is a perspective view of a light emitting device 1-6 according to a seventh embodiment of the present invention.
[0090] A light emitting device 1-6 according to the seventh embodiment differs from the light emitting device 1 in that a substrate 610 and a plurality of light emitting surfaces 640a-640d are provided instead of the substrate 10 and the light emitting surface 40. The configurations and functions of the components of the light emitting device 2 other than the substrate 610 and the light emitting surfaces 640a-640d are the same as those of the light emitting device 1, and therefore detailed description thereof will be omitted.
[0091] The substrate 610 has a different front shape from the substrate 10. The configuration and functions other than the front shape are the same as those of the substrate 10. In this embodiment, the substrate 610 has a square front shape with each side measuring 40 mm.
