Disclosed herein is an LED light. The LED light comprises a socket electrically connected to a receptacle, and a cooling fan for forcibly circulating air. The cooling fan is received in a main body, which has a plurality of radial partition walls formed on the outer peripheral surface thereof in such a manner as to be spaced apart from one another with a gap having a slit shape for ventilation. A plurality of LEDs is attached to the outer periphery and/or the inner leading edge of the main body. A circuit board is provided to control the light such that an alternating current supplied from the socket is rectified into a direct current, which is supplied to the cooling fan and the LED.

A lighting device comprises, or consists essentially of, a housing, a solid state light emitter and conductive tracks. Methods and apparatus for downloading one or more lighting programs including one or more lighting effects. The lighting program(s) may be downloaded from a web site to one or more LED-based lighting devices that are configured to execute the downloaded lighting program(s) so as to reproduce the lighting effect(s). In various examples, a variety of programming devices may be employed to facilitate wired or wireless downloading, including one or more computers, personal digital assistants (PDAs), cell phones, media players (e.g., MP3 players), and the like. Information may be uploaded to the web site to facilitate selection and/or creation of lighting effect(s) that are included in the downloaded lighting program(s).

Provided is an LED lighting system with a smaller heat resistance of the LED, which can be produced by simpler mounting steps and is capable of three-dimensionally arranging the LEDs depending on required directivity of each system. A plurality of LEDs 2 are mounted on an FPC 1 which has a radial shape and can be flat when developed. The LEDs 2 connected by printed wiring to each other and linked to terminals 3 and 4 are attached on a surface of a core 5 made of a material having a high thermal conductivity. An illumination system according to the principles of the invention may include a first LED and a carrier material. The carrier material may be comprised of plastic, synthetic material, polymer, latex, rubber or other material. The carrier material may also contain a phosphor, fluorescent material, organic fluorescent material, inorganic fluorescent material, impregnated phosphor, phosphor particles, phosphor material, YAG:Ce phosphor, or other material for converting electromagnetic radiation into illumination or visible light.

A light emitting device comprises a light emitting element, a pair of conductor members, a transparent board and a transparent member. The conductor members are spaced away from each other at an interval in a side-surface direction of the light emitting element and are electrically connected to the light emitting element. The transparent board supports the light emitting element and the pair of conductive members. The transparent member is located on the transparent board and seals the light emitting element and the pair of conductor members. An optical device is for spatially displacing the output of a light-emitting diode (LED) and coupling the output to a predominantly spherical emission pattern produced at a useftul height above the LED. The device is made of a transparent dielectric material, such as an injection-molded plastic. It comprises a lower transfer section that receives the LED's light from below and an upper ejector section that receives the transferred light and spreads it spherically. One or more LEDs. are optically coupled to the bottom of the transfer section, which operates by total internal reflection upon their entire hemispherical emission. One embodiment operates as a flashlight-bulb substitute with the ejector section radiating onto a parabolic reflector, which forms the beam. Thus hemisphencally emitting LEDs can be used in parabolic-mirror flashlights wherein these LEDs by themselves may be unsuitable for that role.

A backlight for a display device, such as a liquid crystal display device, includes a light guiding plate having a front and a rear surface. The front and rear surfaces may be parallel to one another, or may instead be non-parallel. To the extent that such surfaces are non-parallel, one surface may be included at a single, or multiple angles with respect to the other surface. The backlight further includes a light source that is coupled to an edge of the light guiding plate by means of an energy conserving coupling section, and which provides light that is conditioned and transmitted through the light guiding plate. Light extractors are disposed on at least one side of the light guiding plate to assist in the transmission and conditioning of the light that is provided to the light guiding plate by the light source.

An LED lamp may be made with a heat sink optic. The lamp has a base having a first electrical contact and a second electrical contact for receiving current. At least one LED is mounted on a thermally conductive support; that supports electrical connections for the LED and provides thermal conduction of heat from the LED to the optic. The LED support mounted in the base and electrically coupled through the first electrical contact to electrical current. The light transmissive, and heat diffusing optic has an external an internal wall defining a cavity with the LED positioned in the cavity. The optic is in thermal contact with the LED support and mechanically coupled to the base. The snap together structure enables rapid manufacture while allowing numerous variations.

A high power light emitting diode (LED) lighting assembly incorporated with heat dissipation module is provided. The LED lighting assembly includes a heat exchange base, at least one LED array, at least one heat pipe and a heat dissipation module. The heat exchange base includes at least one LED configuration plan for mounting of the LED array and at least a hollow part for insertion of the heat pipe. The LED array is arranged at a predetermined projecting angle at the LED configuration plane. The heat pipe includes a heated section, a cooling section and a conducting section, and contains a working fluid therein. The heat exchange base is mounted to the heated section and the heat dissipation module is mounted to the cooling section. The thermal energy generated by the LEDs is conducted from the heat exchange base to the heated section of the heat pipe, whereby allowing the working fluid in the heat pipe to be heated and vaporized, and flows, from the conducting section to the cooling section for dissipation at the heat dissipation module.

A lamp includes a linearly extending heat sink, blue-light-emitting LEDs mounted on the heat sink, and a light emitting cover mounted on the heat sink in line with the LEDs, a first portion of the cover opposite the LEDs including a phosphor that is excited by the LEDs to emit white light. The cover may be a tube with the LEDs outside the tube, a portion of the tube nearest the LEDs being transparent and receiving light from the LEDs. The tube may include reflectors that are attached to an exterior surface of the tube to hold the tube on the heat sink. Alternatively, the cover may enclose the LEDs on the heat sink, where a portion of the cover has an interior surface that reflects light from the LEDs to the first portion. The lamp may include electrical connections that allow for multiple lamps to be connected in series.
