[0003] [Patent Document 1] Japanese Patent Application Publication No. 59-37697 [Patent Document 2] Japanese Patent Application Publication No. 11-83325 Summary of the Invention

[0004] In the above-mentioned conventional microwave processing device, cooking with microwaves is performed almost simultaneously with grasping the progress of cooking by detecting reflected power. Microwave heating has the advantage of being able to heat the inside of ingredients in a short time, but it also has the disadvantage of heating concentrating in localized areas and drying out ingredients due to overheating. When microwaves are used in combination with a heating source such as a tube heater or convection, overheating may occur due to microwave heating depending on the type and amount of ingredients.

[0005] The present disclosure aims to provide a microwave processing device that supplies microwaves to a heating chamber at a level that does not affect cooking when cooking ingredients using a heating source other than microwaves, and detects the amount of reflected power returning from the heating chamber, thereby enabling the progress of cooking to be grasped.

[0006] A microwave processing device according to one aspect of the present disclosure includes a heating chamber that accommodates an object to be heated, a microwave generating unit, a heating unit, a power supply unit, a detection unit, and a control unit. The microwave generating unit generates microwaves. The heating unit has a heating source other than microwaves and heats the inside of the heating chamber. The power supply unit supplies microwaves to the heating chamber. The detection unit detects reflected power from the power supply unit. The control unit controls the heating unit and the microwave generating unit.

[0007] The control unit causes the microwave generating unit to generate microwaves having an output power that returns a reflected power at a level detectable by the detection unit when heating is performed by the heating unit.

[0008] The microwave processing device of the present disclosure can appropriately cook the objects to be heated by monitoring the progress of cooking while suppressing adverse effects of microwaves such as overheating of the objects to be heated. [Brief description of the drawings]

[0018] In a microwave processing device according to an eighth aspect of the present disclosure, based on any one of the first to seventh aspects, the control unit controls the heating unit based on the reflected power detected by the detection unit.

[0019] Hereinafter, embodiments of the present disclosure will be described with reference to the drawings.

[0020] (Embodiment 1) Fig. 1 is a schematic diagram of a microwave processing device according to the first embodiment of the present disclosure. As shown in Fig. 1, the microwave processing device according to the present embodiment includes a heating chamber 1, a microwave generating unit 3, a power supply unit 4, a detection unit 5, a control unit 6, a heating unit 7, and a storage unit 8.

[0021] The heating chamber 1 has a metal wall and accommodates a load, ie, an object to be heated 2. The heating unit 7 is a heat source other than microwaves. In this embodiment, the heating unit 7 is a tube heater disposed on the ceiling of the heating chamber 1 to perform radiation heating.

[0022] The heating unit 7 may further include a convection heater and a circulation fan (not shown) arranged outside the heating chamber 1. In this case, the heating unit 7 performs convection heating by circulating hot air inside the heating chamber 1 using the tube heater, the convection heater, and the circulation fan.

[0023] The microwave generating unit 3 has an oscillator and an amplifier made of semiconductors. The microwave generating unit 3 generates microwaves of a frequency selected by the control unit 6 from a predetermined frequency band. The microwave generating unit 3 amplifies the generated microwaves in accordance with instructions from the control unit 6, and outputs microwaves of a desired frequency and output power. The microwaves generated by the microwave generating unit 3 propagate to the power feeding unit 4 via a transmission path such as a coaxial line.

[0024] The power supply unit 4 is composed of an antenna, and supplies the microwaves output by the microwave generation unit 3 as incident power to the heating chamber 1. Of the incident power, the power that is not consumed by the object to be heated 2 or the like becomes reflected power that returns from the heating chamber 1 to the microwave generation unit 3 via the power supply unit 4.

[0025] The detection unit 5 is configured, for example, by a directional coupler, detects incident power and reflected power, and notifies the control unit 6 of the detected amounts of incident power and reflected power. In other words, the detection unit 5 functions as both an incident power detection unit and a reflected power detection unit. The storage unit 8 is configured, for example, by a memory, and stores data from the control unit 6, reads out the stored data, and transmits it to the control unit 6.

[0026] The control unit 6 is configured with a microcomputer equipped with a CPU. The control unit 6 controls the microwave generation unit 3 and the heating unit 7 based on information from the detection unit 5 and the storage unit 8, and executes cooking control in the microwave processing device.

[0027] In this embodiment, the object 2 is cooked using only the heating unit 7. The microwaves are not used to heat the object 2, but are used by the control unit 6 to grasp the progress of cooking based on the reflected power detected by the detection unit 5. The control unit 6 controls the heating unit 7 according to the progress of cooking.

[0028] Fig. 2A shows the change over time in microwave output power in this embodiment, and Fig. 2B shows the change over time in reflected power in this embodiment.

[0029] In general, the greater the output power of the microwave radiated from the power supply unit 4, i.e., the greater the incident power, the greater the reflected power. In this embodiment, the output power of the microwave is set so that the magnitude of the reflected power falls within a range that can be detected by the detection unit 5.

[0030] As shown in FIG. 2A, the microwave output power Pm is set to be smaller than the output power Ph of the heating unit 7 so that the object to be heated 2 is mainly heated by the heating unit 7.

[0031] In the example shown in Fig. 2A, microwaves are continuously supplied from the power supply unit 4. Fig. 2B shows the change over time of the reflected power relative to the incident power at an arbitrary frequency in this case. The power absorbed by the object to be heated 2 and the resonance pattern in the heating chamber 1 change for each frequency.

[0032] For example, as cooking progresses, the temperature and moisture content of the object 2 to be heated change, and the power absorbed by the object 2 to be heated changes. When steam from the object 2 to be heated fills the heating chamber 1, the dielectric constant within the heating chamber 1 changes, and the resonance pattern also changes. The reflected power also changes in response to changes in the power consumed within the heating chamber 1. The progress of cooking can be grasped by detecting the minimum value (time t1 in FIG. 2B) and maximum value (time t2 in FIG. 2B) in the temporal change in the reflected power that accompanies the progress of cooking.

[0033] Generally, when bento lunches, bread, prepared foods, etc. sold at supermarkets, convenience stores, etc. are heated in a microwave processing device such as a microwave oven, the microwave output power is set to 500 W or 600 W. In other words, an output power of at least 500 W is required to sufficiently heat the object 2 to be heated.

[0034] Therefore, in this embodiment, the control unit 6 sets the output power of the microwaves supplied during heating by the heating unit 7 to an average of less than 500 W per specified time so that the microwaves supplied to the heating chamber 1 do not contribute to heating the object to be heated 2.

[0035] When microwave heating is used in combination with radiant heating or convection heating, it is necessary to change the cooking sequence using radiant heating or convection heating to a cooking sequence that also uses microwave heating. However, in this embodiment, the control unit 6 sets the microwave output power so that the reflected power falls within a range that can be detected by the detection unit 5. This eliminates the need to change the cooking sequence.

[0036] (Embodiment 2) A microwave processing device according to a second embodiment of the present disclosure will be described with reference to Figs. 3A to 4B. Fig. 3A shows an example of a change over time in microwave output power in this embodiment. Fig. 3B shows an example of a change over time in reflected power in the microwave processing device according to this embodiment. The microwave processing device according to this embodiment has a similar configuration to that of the first embodiment shown in Fig. 1.

[0037] 3A, in this embodiment, the control unit 6 controls the microwave generation unit 3 to generate microwaves intermittently so that the microwave output power is less than 500 W on average per 10 seconds. For example, the control unit 6 causes the microwave generation unit 3 to repeatedly execute a sequence of generating microwaves with an output power of 900 W for 5 seconds and then stopping the microwaves for 5 seconds.

[0038] There are cases where the change in reflected power cannot be adequately detected depending on the performance of the detection unit 5. In such cases, the control unit 6 controls the microwave generation unit 3 to increase the output power of the microwaves supplied intermittently so that the level of the detected reflected power increases.

[0039] When microwaves are supplied at a predetermined time interval, the reflected power is also detected at the same time interval as the supply of the microwaves. Therefore, as shown in Figure 3B, it is necessary to set the time interval of the microwave output so that the characteristic points in the temporal change of the reflected power can be captured.

[0040] Fig. 4A shows another example of the change over time of the output power of the microwave in the microwave processing device according to the present embodiment, and Fig. 4B shows another example of the change over time of the reflected power in the present embodiment.

[0041] Depending on the cooking process, the power consumption in the heating chamber 1 may change suddenly. In particular, processes such as thoroughly cooking and browning the food towards the end of cooking affect the quality of the food. For this reason, it is necessary to detect the reflected power with high accuracy. For highly accurate detection, it is necessary to set the time interval of the microwave output to be narrow, i.e., to increase the frequency of microwave output.

[0042] As shown in Fig. 4A, the time interval T2 in the final stage of cooking is set to be shorter than the time interval T1 in the initial stage of cooking. This makes it possible to detect the maximum and minimum values even when the reflected power changes minutely. Therefore, the microwave processing device of this embodiment can appropriately determine the progress of cooking and end cooking.

[0043] In this way, the control unit 6 may change the time interval of the intermittently supplied microwaves according to the progress of cooking. In the example shown in Fig. 4A, the output power of the microwaves at the end of cooking is smaller than the output power of the microwaves at the beginning of cooking. However, the output power of the microwaves at the end of cooking and the beginning of cooking may be set to the same value.

[0044] For example, in the middle of cooking, when the reflected power does not change much over time or the reflected power continues to change monotonically, the microwave output power and output frequency are reduced, which can be expected to have an energy saving effect.

[0045] (Embodiment 3) A microwave processing device according to a third embodiment of the present disclosure will be described with reference to Figs. 5 to 6B. Fig. 5 is a diagram showing a change over time in the output power of microwaves in this embodiment. The microwave processing device according to this embodiment has a similar configuration to that of the first embodiment shown in Fig. 1.

[0046] Microwave heating may be effective for the finishing of cooking depending on the type and condition of the object to be heated 2. For this reason, in addition to monitoring the progress of cooking with microwaves as in the first and second embodiments, microwave heating may also be performed at the same time.

[0047] Foodstuffs that are suitable for microwave heating include croissants and lasagna. Croissant dough is heated in the heating section 7, and microwave heating is also used in the early stages of cooking. This allows the dough to rise well and heat evenly to the inside. As a result, improved finish and time savings can be expected.

[0048] Specifically, in the early stage of cooking, the microwave output power is set to be higher than the microwave output power in the first embodiment and higher than the output power Ph of the heating unit 7. The microwave output power in the first embodiment is an output power of less than 500 W on average per predetermined time. The microwave processing device of this embodiment performs microwave heating and at the same time grasps the progress of cooking by detecting reflected power.

[0049] However, in the process of browning the croissants towards the end of cooking, there is a risk of the finished product being poor due to excessive moisture evaporation caused by microwave heating, etc. For this reason, it is advisable to set the microwave output power to the output power in the first embodiment towards the end of cooking and use the microwave output power only to monitor the progress of cooking.

[0050] In this manner, in the present embodiment, the control unit 6 may control the microwave generating unit 3 to provide a time period during which the microwave output power is set to be higher than the predetermined output power in the first embodiment.

[0051] (Cooking control flow and reflected power detection process) Depending on the cooking menu, it may be necessary to change the output power and transition between cooking steps according to the progress of cooking of the object to be heated 2, rather than continuing the same output power from the start to the end of cooking.

[0052] For example, when cooking roast chicken using the heating unit 7, first the temperature in the heating chamber 1 is increased to, for example, 200°C to roast the surface of the object 2. Next, the temperature in the heating chamber 1 is decreased to, for example, 170°C to cook the inside of the object 2. In such a case, it is useful to grasp the progress of cooking based on the detection result of the reflected power and to determine whether or not to move on to the next cooking step.

[0053] 6A is a flowchart showing the flow of cooking control by the microwave processing device of this embodiment. When a user instructs the microwave processing device to start cooking (step S1), the control unit 6 starts heating by the heating unit 7 and then performs detection processing (step S2).

[0054] 6B is a flowchart showing details of the detection process (step S2). When the detection process is started (step S11), the microwave generating unit 3 generates microwaves while sequentially changing the frequency at predetermined intervals in a predetermined frequency band (e.g., 2.40 GHz to 2.50 GHz) (step S12). Hereinafter, the operation of sequentially changing the frequency at predetermined intervals over a predetermined frequency band is referred to as frequency sweep.

[0055] The microwave generating unit 3 generates microwaves while sweeping the frequency, and the detecting unit 5 detects the reflected power for each frequency. As a result, the controlling unit 6 measures the frequency characteristics of the reflected power, and obtains the frequencies of the minimum, maximum, maximum, and minimum points in the frequency characteristics (step S13). The controlling unit 6 stores the amount of reflected power, the frequencies of the minimum, maximum, maximum, and minimum points obtained in step S13, and the elapsed time from the start of heating in the storing unit 8 (step S14), and ends the detection process (step S15).

[0056] The process returns to FIG. 6A, and the control unit 6 grasps the progress of cooking based on the time-dependent changes in the obtained information (step S3). The control unit 6 determines whether to transition to a cooking process based on the progress of cooking (step S4). If the determination result is "continue," the control unit 6 returns the process to the detection process (step S2).

[0057] If the determination result is "transition", the control unit 6 switches the output of the heating unit 7 (step S5). Switching the output of the heating unit 7 includes changing the output power of the heating unit 7 and changing the heat source from the heating unit 7 to the microwave generating unit 3. The control unit 6 updates the determination criterion for transitioning to the next cooking process (step S6) and returns the process to the detection process (step S2). If the determination result in step S4 is "end", the control unit 6 ends the cooking (step S7).

[0058] As described above, in this embodiment, one power supply unit 4 is provided. However, multiple power supply units 4 may be provided. In this embodiment, the microwave generating unit 3 has an oscillator made of a semiconductor. However, the microwave generating unit 3 may be composed of another oscillator such as a magnetron. [Industrial Applicability]

[0059] As described above, the microwave processing device disclosed herein can be applied to cooking appliances that dielectrically heat food, as well as microwave heating devices for industrial use, such as drying devices, heating devices for ceramics, food waste processors, semiconductor manufacturing equipment, and chemical reaction devices.
