[0007] Hereinafter, embodiments of a liquid ejection head, an ejection head structure, and a recording apparatus disclosed in the present application will be described in detail with reference to the accompanying drawings. Note that the present invention is not limited to the embodiments described below.

[0008] <Printer configuration> First, an overview of a printer 1, which is an example of a recording apparatus according to an embodiment, will be described with reference to Fig. 1 and Fig. 2. Fig. 1 and Fig. 2 are explanatory diagrams of a printer according to an embodiment. Specifically, Fig. 1 is a schematic side view of the printer 1, and Fig. 2 is a schematic plan view of the printer 1. The printer 1 according to the embodiment is, for example, a color inkjet printer.

[0009] 1, the printer 1 includes a feed roller 2, a guide roller 3, a coater 4, a head case 5, a plurality of transport rollers 6, a plurality of frames 7, a plurality of liquid ejection heads 8, a transport roller 9, a dryer 10, a transport roller 11, a sensor unit 12, and a recovery roller 13. The transport roller 6 is an example of a transport unit.

[0010] Furthermore, the printer 1 includes a control unit 14 that controls the paper feed roller 2, the guide roller 3, the coater 4, the head case 5, multiple conveying rollers 6, multiple frames 7, multiple liquid ejection heads 8, the conveying roller 9, the dryer 10, the conveying roller 11, the sensor unit 12 and the recovery roller 13.

[0011] The printer 1 records images and characters on the printing paper P by causing droplets to land on the printing paper P. The printing paper P is an example of a recording medium. Before use, the printing paper P is wound around a paper feed roller 2. The printer 1 transports the printing paper P from the paper feed roller 2 through a guide roller 3 and a coater 4 into the inside of a head case 5.

[0012] The coater 4 applies the coating agent evenly to the printing paper P. This allows the printing paper P to be surface-treated, thereby improving the printing quality of the printer 1.

[0013] The head case 5 houses a plurality of transport rollers 6, a plurality of frames 7, and a plurality of liquid ejection heads 8. Inside the head case 5, a space is formed that is isolated from the outside, except for a portion that is connected to the outside, such as a portion where the printing paper P enters and exits.

[0014] At least one of control factors such as temperature, humidity, and air pressure of the internal space of the head case 5 is controlled by the control unit 14 as necessary. The transport rollers 6 transport the printing paper P inside the head case 5 to the vicinity of the liquid ejection head 8.

[0015] The frame 7 is a rectangular flat plate, and is positioned adjacent to and above the print paper P transported by the transport rollers 6. As shown in Fig. 2, the frame 7 is positioned so that its longitudinal direction is perpendicular to the transport direction of the print paper P. Inside the head case 5, multiple (for example, four) frames 7 are positioned along the transport direction of the print paper P.

[0016] A liquid, such as ink, is supplied from a liquid tank (not shown) to the liquid ejection head 8. The liquid ejection head 8 ejects the liquid supplied from the liquid tank.

[0017] The control unit 14 controls the liquid ejection head 8 based on data such as images and characters to eject liquid toward the printing paper P. The distance between the liquid ejection head 8 and the printing paper P is, for example, about 0.5 to 20 mm.

[0018] The liquid ejection head 8 is fixed to the frame 7. The liquid ejection head 8 is positioned so that its longitudinal direction is perpendicular to the direction in which the printing paper P is transported.

[0019] That is, the printer 1 according to the embodiment is a so-called line printer in which the liquid ejection head 8 is fixed inside the printer 1. Note that the printer 1 according to the embodiment is not limited to a line printer, and may be a so-called serial printer.

[0020] A serial printer is a printer that alternates between recording by moving the liquid ejection head 8 back and forth in a direction intersecting the transport direction of the printing paper P, for example, in a direction approximately perpendicular to the direction of transport, and transporting the printing paper P.

[0021] As shown in Fig. 2, multiple (for example, five) liquid ejection heads 8 are fixed to one frame 7. Fig. 2 shows an example in which three liquid ejection heads 8 are positioned at the front and two at the rear in the transport direction of the print paper P, and the liquid ejection heads 8 are positioned in the transport direction of the print paper P such that the centers of the liquid ejection heads 8 do not overlap.

[0022] A head group 8A is made up of a plurality of liquid ejection heads 8 positioned on one frame 7. The four head groups 8A are positioned along the transport direction of the print paper P. Ink of the same color is supplied to liquid ejection heads 8 belonging to the same head group 8A. This allows the printer 1 to perform printing with four colors of ink using the four head groups 8A.

[0023] The colors of ink ejected from each head group 8A are, for example, magenta (M), yellow (Y), cyan (C), and black (K). The control unit 14 controls each head group 8A to eject ink of multiple colors onto the printing paper P, thereby printing a color image on the printing paper P.

[0024] In order to treat the surface of the printing paper P, a coating agent may be ejected onto the printing paper P from the liquid ejection head 8.

[0025] Furthermore, the number of liquid ejection heads 8 included in one head group 8A and the number of head groups 8A mounted on the printer 1 can be changed as appropriate depending on the printing target and printing conditions. For example, if a single color is printed on the printing paper P and printing is performed within a range that can be printed with one liquid ejection head 8, the number of liquid ejection heads 8 mounted on the printer 1 may be one.

[0026] The print paper P that has been printed inside the head case 5 is transported to the outside of the head case 5 by transport rollers 9 and passes through the inside of the dryer 10. The dryer 10 dries the print paper P that has been printed. The print paper P that has been dried in the dryer 10 is transported by transport rollers 11 and collected by collection rollers 13.

[0027] In the printer 1, by drying the printing paper P with the dryer 10, it is possible to prevent the printing paper P that is wound up in an overlapping state from sticking to each other on the recovery roller 13 and to prevent the wet liquid from rubbing against each other.

[0028] The sensor unit 12 is composed of a position sensor, a speed sensor, a temperature sensor, etc. The control unit 14 can determine the state of each part of the printer 1 based on information from the sensor unit 12 and control each part of the printer 1.

[0029] In the printer 1 described so far, printing paper P is used as the printing object (i.e., recording medium), but the printing object in the printer 1 is not limited to printing paper P, and the printing object may also be a roll of cloth, etc.

[0030] Furthermore, the printer 1 may convey the print paper P on a conveyor belt instead of directly conveying the print paper P. By using a conveyor belt, the printer 1 can print on sheets of paper, cut pieces of cloth, wood, tiles, and the like.

[0031] The printer 1 may also print wiring patterns for electronic devices by ejecting liquid containing conductive particles from the liquid ejection head 8. The printer 1 may also prepare chemicals by ejecting a predetermined amount of liquid chemicals or liquid containing chemicals from the liquid ejection head 8 toward a reaction vessel or the like.

[0032] The printer 1 may also include a cleaning unit that cleans the liquid ejection head 8. The cleaning unit cleans the liquid ejection head 8 by, for example, wiping or capping.

[0033] The wiping process is a process of removing liquid adhering to the liquid ejection head 8 by wiping the surface of the portion from which the liquid is ejected with a flexible wiper, for example.

[0034] The capping process is carried out, for example, as follows: First, a cap is placed over the portion from which liquid is discharged, for example, the nozzle surface 23a (see FIG. 4) of the flow path member 23 where the discharge holes are located (this is called capping). As a result, a substantially sealed space is formed between the nozzle surface 23a and the cap.

[0035] Next, liquid is repeatedly ejected in such a sealed space, which makes it possible to remove liquid with a higher viscosity than the standard state and foreign matter that have been clogged in the ejection holes located on the nozzle surface 23a (see FIG. 4).

[0036] <Configuration of Liquid Ejection Head> Next, the configuration of the liquid ejection head 8 according to the embodiment will be described with reference to Fig. 3 and Fig. 4. Fig. 3 is a plan view showing the configuration of the main part of the liquid ejection head according to the embodiment. Fig. 4 is a side view of the liquid ejection head shown in Fig. 3.

[0037] The liquid ejection head 8 includes a heat sink 21, a head body 24, a supply pipe 31, a recovery pipe 32, and a shielding portion 40. The head body 24 includes a reservoir 22 and a flow path member .

[0038] For ease of understanding, in the following description, for convenience, the direction in which the reservoir 22 of the head body 24 is provided in the liquid ejection head 8 may be referred to as "upper", and the direction in which the flow path member 23 is provided relative to the reservoir 22 may be referred to as "lower". Also, in Figures 3 and 4, the shapes of each member are shown in a simplified manner.

[0039] The heat sink 21 has a box shape with an open bottom. The heat sink 21 comes into contact with a heat source. The heat sink 21 dissipates heat transferred from the heat source to the surroundings. The material of the heat sink 21 is, for example, aluminum with an anodized surface. The heat sink 21 may also be made of a plurality of plate-shaped members.

[0040] The heat source is, for example, one or more driving ICs (not shown) that control the driving of the head main body 24. The heat source is in contact with, for example, the side surface of the heat sink 21. The heat source may be in contact with the upper or lower surface of the heat sink 21. The heat source may be in contact with the side surface or other surface of the heat sink 21 via a member such as thermally conductive grease. Also, at least a part of the heat source may be in contact with the heat sink 21.

[0041] The reservoir 22 has an internal flow path, and liquid is supplied from the outside via a supply pipe 31. The reservoir 22 has a function of supplying liquid to the flow path member 23 and a function of storing the liquid supplied to the flow path member 23.

[0042] The flow path member 23 has a substantially flat plate shape, and liquid is supplied from the reservoir 22 to the inside of the flow path member 23. The flow path member 23 has a nozzle surface 23a located away from the reservoir 22. The nozzle surface 23a has a plurality of ejection holes that eject liquid onto the printing paper P. Inside the flow path member 23, a flow path is located that allows liquid to flow from the reservoir 22 side to the nozzle surface 23a side.

[0043] The supply pipe 31 is connected to an opening (not shown) located at one end side in the longitudinal direction of the reservoir 22. The supply pipe 31 supplies liquid to the inside of the reservoir 22. The material of the supply pipe 31 is, for example, polypropylene or other resin.

[0044] The recovery pipe 32 is connected to an opening (not shown) located at the other end in the longitudinal direction of the reservoir 22. The recovery pipe 32 recovers the liquid from inside the reservoir 22.

[0045] The shielding portion 40 is located away from the heat sink 21. The shielding portion 40 is fixed to the reservoir 22, for example, by screwing using an L-shaped fixing member (not shown) as necessary. The material of the shielding portion 40 is, for example, aluminum or stainless steel. The shielding portion 40 absorbs a portion of the heat radiated from the heat sink 21. The shielding portion 40 is also provided between the heat sink 21 and the supply pipe 31. The heat radiated from the heat sink 21 is blocked by the shielding portion 40, and is therefore less likely to be transmitted to the supply pipe 31.

[0046] In addition, since the shielding portion 40 is located away from the supply pipe 31, the heat absorbed by the shielding portion 40 is not easily transferred to the supply pipe 31. This allows the liquid flowing through the supply pipe 31 to be stably supplied to the inside of the reservoir 22 at a desired appropriate temperature. As a result, the liquid ejection head 8 can stably eject the liquid from the nozzle surface 23a.

[0047] The shielding portion 40 may have a lower emissivity than the heat sink 21. This makes it difficult for the heat absorbed by the shielding portion 40 to radiate around the shielding portion 40, so that the radiation of the heat absorbed by the shielding portion 40 can be slowed down. Therefore, the liquid flowing through the supply pipe 31 is stably supplied to the inside of the reservoir 22 at a desired appropriate temperature. As a result, the liquid ejection head 8 can stably eject the liquid from the nozzle surface 23a. The emissivity of the shielding portion 40 and the heat sink 21 can be measured in accordance with JIS A1423:2017.

[0048] On the other hand, a shielding portion corresponding to the shielding portion 40 does not need to be located between the heat sink 21 and the recovery pipe 32. This allows the heat transferred to the heat sink 21 to be quickly released to the recovery pipe 32, and the heat sink 21 and the heat source to be dissipated.

[0049] In addition, the height of the shielding portion 40 from the head body 24 is greater than the height of the heat sink 21 from the head body 24. This allows the heat radiated from the heat sink 21 to be blocked by the shielding portion 40. Therefore, the heat radiated from the heat sink 21 is less likely to be supplied to the supply pipe 31.

[0050] <Various modified examples> Various modified examples of the liquid ejection head 8 according to the embodiment will be described with reference to Figs. 5 to 12. Fig. 5 is a plan view showing the configuration of the main part of the liquid ejection head according to Modification 1 of the embodiment. Fig. 6 is a side view of the liquid ejection head shown in Fig. 5. In the various modified examples below, the same reference numerals are used for the same parts as those in the embodiment, and duplicated explanations will be omitted.

[0051] 5 and 6, the shielding portion 40 differs from the liquid ejection head 8 according to the embodiment in that it is bent in plan view. As shown in Fig. 5, the shielding portion 40 has a first portion 40a, a second portion 40b, and a third portion 40c.

[0052] The first portion 40a is located between the heat sink 21 and the supply pipe 31, and is a portion extending in the short-side direction of the reservoir 22. The second portion 40b and the third portion 40c are portions extending in the longitudinal direction of the reservoir 22 from both ends of the first portion 40a extending in the short-side direction of the reservoir 22. The shielding portion 40 is located so as to surround the heat sink 21 in a plan view.

[0053] By positioning the shielding portion 40 so as to surround the heat sink 21 in plan view, the shielding portion 40 is more effective at blocking heat radiated from the heat sink 21. This allows the liquid flowing through the supply pipe 31 to be stably supplied to the inside of the reservoir 22 at a desired appropriate temperature. As a result, the liquid ejection head 8 can stably eject the liquid from the nozzle surface 23a. In addition, by bending the shielding portion 40 in plan view, the strength of the shielding portion 40 can be increased.

[0054] 5 and 6, the shielding portion 40 is bent so as to surround the heat sink 21 in a plan view, but the shielding portion 40 may be curved in a plan view. The shielding portion 40 may be bent or curved so as to surround the supply pipe 31 in a plan view. The first portion 40a, the second portion 40b, and the third portion 40c may each have a different height.

[0055] Fig. 7 is a plan view showing the configuration of the main part of a liquid ejection head according to Modification 2 of the embodiment. In the liquid ejection head 8 shown in Fig. 7, the emissivity of the shielding portion 40 differs between a first surface 41 facing the heat sink 21 and a second surface 42 facing the supply pipe 31. Specifically, the emissivity of the shielding portion 40 is higher on the first surface 41 located on the heat sink 21 side than on the second surface 42 located on the supply pipe 31 side.

[0056] The first surface 41, which has a higher emissivity than the second surface 42, is more likely to absorb the heat radiated from the heat sink 21. On the other hand, the second surface 42, which has a lower emissivity than the first surface 41, is less likely to release the heat absorbed from the heat sink 21. This further enhances the effect of the shielding portion 40 in shielding the heat radiated from the heat sink 21, allowing the liquid ejection head 8 to stably eject liquid from the nozzle surface 23a.

[0057] Here, the first surface 41 having a higher emissivity than the second surface 42 can be obtained, for example, by subjecting the first surface 41 to a roughening treatment or anodizing treatment. The second surface 42 may also be subjected to a smoothing treatment to have a lower emissivity than the first surface 41.

[0058] In addition, the shielding part 40 may have a first surface 41 located on the heat sink 21 side that has a higher emissivity than the emissivity of the heat sink 21. By making the emissivity of the first surface 41 higher than the emissivity of the heat sink 21, the heat radiated from the heat sink 21 towards the shielding part 40 is easily absorbed by the first surface 41. In this case, the emissivity of the second surface 42 located on the supply pipe 31 side may be lower than the emissivity of the heat sink 21.

[0059] 7, the emissivity is varied by one member, but the shielding portion 40 may be made up of a plurality of members having different emissivities. Fig. 8 is a plan view showing the configuration of a main part of a liquid ejection head according to a third modification of the embodiment.

[0060] 8, the shielding part 40 has a first member 43 and a second member 44. The emissivity of the shielding part 40 is higher for the first member 43 located on the heat sink 21 side than for the second member 44 located on the supply pipe 31 side. The material of the first member 43 is, for example, aluminum whose surface has been anodized, and the material of the second member 44 is, for example, stainless steel or aluminum whose surface has not been anodized.

[0061] The first member 43, which has a higher emissivity than the second member 44, is more likely to absorb the heat radiated from the heat sink 21. On the other hand, the second member 44, which has a lower emissivity than the first member 43, is less likely to release the heat absorbed from the heat sink 21. This further enhances the effect of the shielding portion 40 in shielding the heat radiated from the heat sink 21, allowing the liquid ejection head 8 to stably eject liquid from the nozzle surface 23a.

[0062] Fig. 9 is a plan view showing the configuration of a main part of a discharge head structure including a liquid discharge head according to Modification 4 of the embodiment, Fig. 10 is a side view of the discharge head structure shown in Fig. 9.

[0063] 9 and 10, the discharge head structure 80 includes the liquid discharge head 8 and a box-shaped body 45. The box-shaped body 45 is located above the reservoir 22 and surrounds the heat sink 21. The material of the box-shaped body 45 is, for example, aluminum or stainless steel.

[0064] Of the box-shaped body 45, a portion located between the heat sink 21 and the supply pipe 31 also serves as the shielding portion 40 of the liquid ejection head 8 according to the embodiment. In addition, since the box-shaped body 45 surrounds the entire heat sink 21, the effect of shielding the heat radiated from the heat sink 21 is further enhanced. This allows the ejection head structure 80 to stably eject liquid from the nozzle surface 23a.

[0065] The emissivity of the portion of the box-shaped body 45 that corresponds to the shielding portion 40 of the liquid ejection head 8 according to the embodiment may be made lower than the emissivity of the other portions of the box-shaped body 45. This makes it possible to improve the effect of shielding the heat radiated from the heat sink 21 in the portion that corresponds to the shielding portion 40, while improving the heat dissipation property of the box-shaped body 45 in the other portions.

[0066] In addition, since the box-shaped body 45 has a box shape, its strength is increased compared to the plate-shaped shielding portion 40 of the liquid ejection head 8 according to the embodiment. Although not illustrated, a cylindrical body with an open top on the heat sink 21 may be positioned in place of the box-shaped body 45.

[0067] Fig. 11 is a plan view showing the configuration of a main part of a discharge head structure including a liquid discharge head according to Modification 5 of the embodiment, Fig. 12 is a side view of the discharge head structure shown in Fig. 11.

[0068] 11 and 12, the ejection head structure 80 includes the liquid ejection head 8 and a frame 50. The frame 50 is positioned above the reservoir 22, and fixes the liquid ejection head 8 by, for example, screwing. The material of the frame 50 is, for example, stainless steel or aluminum.

[0069] In addition, the shielding portion 40 also serves as a part of the frame 50. Therefore, the shielding portion 40 can be appropriately positioned without being fixed to the liquid ejection head 8 by, for example, screws. This increases the degree of freedom in designing the liquid ejection head 8.

[0070] The frame 50 may be a part of the frame 7 shown in FIGS. 1 and 2, or may be a separate member from the frame 7.

[0071] Although the embodiments of the present invention have been described above, the present invention is not limited to the above-mentioned embodiments, and various modifications are possible without departing from the spirit of the present invention. For example, the shielding portion 40 of the discharge head structure 80 shown in FIG. 11 and / or FIG. 12 may be the shielding portion 40 of the liquid discharge head 8 according to various modified examples.

[0072] As described above, the liquid ejection head 8 according to the embodiment includes the heat sink 21, the head body 24, the supply pipe 31, and the shielding portion 40. The heat sink 21 is in contact with a heat source. The head body 24 has an ejection hole for ejecting liquid. The supply pipe 31 supplies liquid to the head body 24. The shielding portion 40 is provided between the heat sink 21 and the supply pipe 31, and is positioned away from the heat sink 21 and the supply pipe 31. This allows the liquid to be ejected stably.

[0073] Moreover, the liquid ejection head 8 according to the embodiment further includes a recovery pipe 32 that recovers liquid from the head body 24, and no shielding portion is located between the heat sink 21 and the recovery pipe 32. This allows the heat transferred to the heat sink 21 to be quickly released.

[0074] Moreover, the shielding portion 40 according to the embodiment is bent or curved in a plan view, which allows the liquid to be ejected stably.

[0075] Furthermore, in the liquid ejection head 8 according to this embodiment, the emissivity of the shielding portion 40 is lower than the emissivity of the heat sink 21. This allows the radiation of heat absorbed by the shielding portion 40 to be slowed down.

[0076] Furthermore, in the liquid ejection head 8 according to this embodiment, the emissivity of the shielding portion 40 is higher on the heat sink 21 side than on the supply pipe 31 side. This allows the liquid to be ejected stably.

[0077] Furthermore, in the liquid ejection head 8 according to the embodiment, the height of the shielding portion 40 from the head body 24 is greater than the height of the heat sink 21 from the head body 24. This allows the liquid to be ejected stably.

[0078] Moreover, the ejection head structure 80 according to the embodiment includes a heat sink 21 that contacts a heat source, a head body 24 having ejection holes for ejecting liquid, a supply pipe 31 that supplies liquid to the head body 24, and a box-shaped body 45 that is provided between the heat sink 21 and the supply pipe 31, includes a shielding portion located away from the heat sink 21 and the supply pipe 31, and surrounds the heat sink 21. This allows the liquid to be ejected stably.

[0079] Moreover, the discharge head structure 80 according to the embodiment includes the above-described liquid discharge head 8, and a frame 50 that fixes the liquid discharge head 8. The shielding portion 40 also serves as part of the frame 50. This increases the degree of freedom in designing the liquid discharge head 8.

[0080] Further advantages and modifications may readily occur to those skilled in the art. Thus, the disclosure in its broader aspects is not limited to the specific details and representative embodiments shown and described above. Thus, various modifications may be made without departing from the spirit or scope of the general inventive concept as defined by the appended claims and equivalents thereof.
