DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS

[0008] In the following description of various examples and components of the present disclosure, reference is made to the accompanying drawings, which form a part hereof, and in which is shown by way of illustration various exemplary structures and environments in which aspects of the present disclosure may be practiced. It is to be understood that other structures and environments may be utilized, and structural and functional modifications may be made from the specifically described structures and methods without departing from the scope of the present disclosure.

[0009] Additionally, terms such as "front side," "back side," "top," "base," "bottom," "side," "forward," "backward," and the like may be used herein to describe various exemplary features and elements, and these terms are used herein for convenience, for example, based on exemplary orientations shown in the figures and / or orientations in typical use. Nothing in this specification should be construed as requiring a particular three-dimensional or spatial orientation of structures to be included within the scope of the claims.

[0010] 1 illustrates an isometric view of a lid assembly 100 removably coupled to a container 105 according to one or more embodiments described herein. The container 105 is one example container to which the lid assembly 100 may be configured to be removably coupled. Thus, the container 105 may be configured to store a volume of liquid, and the lid assembly 100 may be configured to seal an opening of the container 105.

[0011] 2A and 2B show isometric views of the lid assembly 100 in a closed and an open configuration, respectively. The lid assembly 100 generally includes a slider mechanism 102 configured to move between a closed position (shown in FIG. 2A) and an open position (shown in FIG. 2B) to selectively close or open a first opening 104 configured to allow flow of liquid stored in the container 105. Further details regarding the slider mechanism 102 are discussed in relation to the preceding figures. The lid assembly 100 may additionally include a sidewall 106, which may define a groove 108 for seating of a gasket 110. The gasket 110 may thus provide a seal between the lid assembly 100 and the container 105. However, other sealing methods for sealing the lid assembly 100 to the container 105 are also contemplated. The lid assembly 100 may also include a lip 112 for engaging an opening of the container 105. The rim 112 may also include a top wall 114 and a gripping element 116 and / or an optional lid tab (not shown) extending from the top wall 114 to assist a user in removing the lid assembly 100 from the container 105.

[0012] The lid assembly 100 may also include an intermediate wall 118 extending below the rim 112. An upper surface 120 of the intermediate wall 118 may define a recess 122 for receiving the slider mechanism 102. In one embodiment, the recess 122 may define a guide channel when the slider mechanism 102 moves between the closed position shown in FIG. 2A and the open position shown in FIG. 2B. As shown in FIG. 2B, the first opening 104 for drinking or pouring liquid from the container may also be formed in the recess 122. The recess 122 may also include a second opening 124, which will be described in more detail with respect to FIG. 5A. A detent 126 may extend from the upper surface 120 of the intermediate wall 118 into the recess 122. The detent 126 may be configured to abut against the slider mechanism 102 when in the open position shown in FIG. 2B to prevent liquid from being compressed between the slider mechanism 102 and an end wall 128 of the recess 122 (which could otherwise result in splashing of liquid that may accumulate within the recess 122 as a result of a user drinking or pouring from the first opening 104).

[0013] FIG. 3 illustrates a schematic exploded isometric view of the lid assembly 100 according to one or more embodiments described herein. In particular, FIG. 3 illustrates a schematic of a number of elements that make up the slider mechanism 102, as discussed with respect to FIGS. 2A and 2B. Thus, the slider mechanism 102 can include a top sled 130 configured to be positioned within a recess 122 in the top surface 120 of the mid-wall 118. The top sled 130 can include a top magnet 132 sealed therein. In one embodiment, the top magnet 132 can be sealed within a cavity in the top sled 130 and overmolded with a polymer overmolded plug element 134. Additional and alternative sealing methods can be used to secure the top magnet 132 within the top sled 130 without departing from the scope of these disclosures. Additionally, the top sled magnet 132 can be formed of any suitable ferromagnetic or otherwise magnetic material. The top sled 130 is discussed in more detail with respect to FIGS. 7A and 7B.

[0014] The slider mechanism 102 may additionally include a lower sled 136 configured to be positioned adjacent a bottom surface 138 of the midwall 118 (shown in FIG. 5B). The lower sled 136 may include a lower sled magnet 140 sealed therein. In one embodiment, the lower sled magnet 140 may be sealed within a cavity in the lower sled 136 and overmolded with a polymer overmolded plug element 142. Additionally, the slider mechanism 102 may include a lower gasket 144 configured to extend around an outer periphery of the lower sled 136. The lower sled 136 is described in further detail with respect to FIGS. 6A and 6B.

[0015] In one embodiment, magnetic attraction between upper sled magnets 132 and lower sled magnets 140 magnetically couples upper sled 130 to lower sled 136 across mid-wall 118. Thus, manual manipulation of upper sled 130 over top surface 6 of mid-wall 118 results in sliding movement of upper sled 130 and lower sled 136.

[0016] 4 generally illustrates a cross-sectional view of the lid assembly 100 according to one or more embodiments described herein. As shown, the slider mechanism 102 is in a closed configuration such that the first opening 104 is sealed by the slider mechanism 102. In one embodiment, the lower thread magnet 140 may have a cylindrical geometry with a hollow center. Thus, the lower thread magnet 140 may be described as a ring magnet that extends around the central tube 146 through the otherwise overmolded plug element 142 and the lower thread 136. In another embodiment, the lower thread magnet 140 may have a solid cylindrical geometry.

[0017] 5A and 5B show isometric views of the lid assembly 100 without the slider mechanism 102. In particular, FIG. 5A shows a view of the top surface 120 of the mid-wall 118, and FIG. 5B shows a view of the bottom surface 138 of the mid-wall 118. As shown, the lid mechanism 100 includes a first opening 104 and a second opening 124. In one embodiment, when the upper sled 130 is magnetically coupled to the lower sled 136, a portion of the slider mechanism 102 is configured to extend through the second opening 124.

[0018] The second opening 124 may include detents 148 extending from the intermediate wall 118 to the second opening 124. When the slider mechanism 102 is in the closed position shown in FIG. 2A, these detents 148 are configured to be received in channels 150 (see FIG. 6A) extending along a portion of the central tube 146 of the lower sled 136. The detents 148 are thus configured to provide an interference fit to prevent the slider mechanism 102 from being inadvertently moved, thereby inadvertently unsealing the first opening 104. In one embodiment, the slider mechanism 102 may be configured to lock in the open and / or closed configurations shown in FIGS. 2A and 2B. It is further contemplated that a locking mechanism in addition to the detents 148 may be used to further prevent the slider mechanism 102 from being inadvertently moved.

[0019] 5B illustrates the bottom surface 138 of the intermediate wall 118. Thus, as shown, the bottom surface 138 defines a first angled feature 152 on a first side of the second opening 124. The first angled feature 152 has a crest surface 154 that is spaced between two valley recesses 156. Similarly, a second angled feature 158 is positioned on a second side of the second opening 124. The second angled feature 158 includes a crest surface 160 that is spaced between two valley recesses 162.

[0020] The lid assembly 100 additionally includes a recessed pocket 161 extending into an inner surface 163 of the sidewall that extends below the bottom surface 138 of the intermediate wall 118. Thus, when the slider mechanism 102 is in the closed position shown in FIG. 2A, the recessed pocket 161 receives a portion of the lower sled 136. The lid assembly 100 also includes a recessed vent pocket 165 such that the geometry of the recessed vent pocket 165 allows air to flow into the container 105 when liquid is being poured from the first opening 104.

[0021] 6A and 6B show isometric views of the lower sled 136 according to one or more embodiments described herein. Thus, the lower sled 136 includes an inner surface 164 configured to be positioned adjacent the bottom surface 138 of the intermediate wall 118. The inner surface 164 includes a lower thread ramp 166. The lower thread ramp 166 is configured to be received in one of the valley recesses of each of the first ramp feature 152 and the second ramp feature 158. Thus, when the slider mechanism 102 slides between the open and closed configurations, the lower thread ramp 166 is configured to slide across the first ramp feature 152 and the second ramp feature 158. When the slider mechanism 102 transitions between the open and closed configurations, the lower thread ramp 166 will abut the crest surfaces 154 and 160. Furthermore, because the crest surfaces 154 and 160 are raised against the valley recesses on either side of the crest surfaces 154 and 160, this will urge the upper thread 130 and the lower thread 136 further apart from each other. Thus, because the magnetic force between the upper thread magnet 132 and the lower thread magnet 140 is inversely proportional to the square of the distance between them, when the lower thread ramp 166 abuts the crest surfaces 154 and 160, the magnetic attraction will be reduced. In one embodiment, this reduction in magnetic force will provide smoother movement of the slider mechanism 102 between the open and closed positions. Furthermore, when the lower thread ramp 166 is positioned within the valley recesses of the first ramp feature 152 and the second ramp feature 158, the relatively shorter distance between the upper thread magnet 132 and the lower thread magnet 140 will result in a relatively stronger magnetic attraction that helps secure the slider mechanism 102 in the open or closed configuration.

[0022] It should be noted that the lower thread 136 and the upper thread 130 are symmetrical about a vertical axis to allow the slider mechanism to be installed within the lid assembly 100 in any of four different orientations. The lower thread 136 additionally includes a central tube 146 extending from the inner surface 164. Furthermore, the central tube 146 includes a tab ear 168 configured to extend through the second opening 124. The lower thread 136 further includes a channel 170 configured to receive a portion of the lower gasket 144. Additionally, the lower thread 136 includes lower vent channels 171a and 171b. Thus, when the slider mechanism 102 is in the open configuration, a portion of the lower thread 136 extends over a portion of the recessed vent pocket 165. Additionally, one of the lower vent channels 171 a or 171 b is positioned above the recessed vent pocket 165 , thereby establishing a channel through which air can pass from the slider mechanism 102 to the interior cavity of the container 105 .

[0023] 6B shows an isometric view of an exterior surface 172 of the lower sled 136. In one embodiment, a knob 174 (also referred to as a finger tab 174) extends from the exterior surface 172. The knob 174 is configured to be grasped by a user to install the slider mechanism 102 within the lid assembly 100. This installation process is described in further detail with respect to FIG.

[0024] 7A and 7B show isometric views of the top sled 130. The top sled 130 can include two symmetrical flanges 176a and 176b, both of which are configured to selectively cover and seal the first opening 104 for pouring liquid from the container and the second opening 124 in the recess 122 (also referred to as the guide channel 122). A tab or handle 178 is configured for a user to grasp to selectively move the top sled 130 such that the slider mechanism 102 is in an open position to uncover the first opening 104 on the lid assembly 100, or in a closed position to cover the first opening 104 on the lid assembly 100. The tab or handle 178 can include two inwardly tapered portions 180a and 180b for gripping purposes.

[0025] 7B shows a view of the inside 182 of the top sled 130. Thus, the top sled 130 includes top vent channels 184a and 184b. Thus, when the slider mechanism 102 is in the open configuration, the vent path is formed in part by a portion of the bottom sled 136 extending over a portion of the recessed vent pocket 165. Additionally, one of the bottom vent channels 171a or 171b is positioned over the recessed vent pocket 165, thereby establishing a channel through which air can pass from the slider mechanism 102 to the interior cavity of the container 105. When the top vent channels 184a and 184b allow air to pass from the exterior environment to the slider mechanism 102, this vent path between the exterior environment and the interior cavity of the container 105 is completed. The top sled recesses 186a and 186b are configured to receive a portion of the tab ear 168 of the bottom sled 136.

[0026] 8A and 8B show isometric and partial cross-sectional views of the lower gasket 144 according to one or more embodiments described herein. Thus, when the slider mechanism 102 is in the closed configuration shown in FIG. 2A, the lower gasket 144 is configured to seal the first opening 104. Additionally, the lower gasket 144 is configured to seal the second opening 124. In one embodiment, the inner surface 188 of the lower gasket 144 is configured to be positioned over the outer surface 172 of the lower sled 136. The opening 190 in the lower gasket 144 is configured to allow the knob 174 of the lower sled 136 to extend through. In one embodiment, the lower gasket 144 may be constructed of silicone. However, additional or alternative polymeric materials may be used without departing from the scope of these disclosures.

[0027] 8B shows the spring feature 192 of the lower gasket 144. Thus, the spring feature 192 allows the seal formed by the gasket 144 to move and remain in contact with the bottom surface 138 of the mid-wall 118. Thus, when in the open and closed configurations, the relatively high magnetic force biasing the lower thread 136 toward the bottom surface 138 of the mid-wall 118 compresses the spring feature 192 of the lower gasket 144. Furthermore, when the lower thread ramp 166 is positioned on the crest surfaces 154 and 160 and the magnetic force is relatively lower and the lower thread 136 is moved away from the bottom surface 138, the spring feature 192 extends outward toward and maintains contact with the bottom surface 138 to maintain the seal of the lower gasket 144 at the bottom surface 138.

[0028] Figures 9A and 9B show schematic cross-sectional views of the lid assembly 100 in a closed configuration. As shown, the slider mechanism 102, including the upper thread 130 and the lower thread 136, seals the first opening 104. Figure 9B shows a more detailed view of a portion of the cross-section of Figure 9A. Thus, Figure 9B shows a portion of the lower thread 136 and the lower gasket 144 received in the recessed pocket 161 of the lid assembly 100.

[0029] 10A and 10B show schematic cross-sectional views of the lid assembly 100 in an open configuration. As shown, the first opening 104 is completely uncovered by the slider mechanism 102, including the top sled 130 and the underside 136. FIG. 10B shows schematic more detailed views of a portion of the cross-section of FIG. 10A. In particular, FIG. 10B shows a portion of the lower gasket 144 slid over a portion of the recessed vent pocket 165. The overlap of the portion of the lower gasket 144 over the portion of the recessed vent pocket 165 results in a gap 192 through which air can enter the container 105 when liquid is being poured from the first opening 104.

[0030] 11A and 11B show schematic cross-sectional views of the lid assembly 100 in a partially open configuration. As shown, the first opening 104 is partially uncovered by the slider mechanism 102, which includes the upper thread 130 and the lower thread 136. FIG. 11B shows schematic, more detailed views of a portion of the cross-section of FIG. 11A. In particular, FIG. 11B shows the separation 196 (or gap 196) between the upper thread 130 and the lower thread 136. This separation 196 results from the lower thread slope 166 abutting the ridges 154 and 160, as previously described.

[0031] 12A-12D show various steps for disassembling and removing the slider mechanism 102 from the lid assembly 100. As previously described, the slider mechanism 102 includes an upper sled 130 and a lower sled 136. Additionally, the upper sled includes an upper sled magnet 132, and the lower sled 136 includes a lower sled magnet 140 and a lower gasket 144. FIG. 12A shows the lid assembly 100 with the slider mechanism 102 fully installed and in an open configuration. To remove the slider mechanism, for example, to facilitate cleaning of the lid assembly 100, the upper sled 130 can be manually lifted off the top surface 120. FIG. 12B shows the upper sled 130 after it has been removed from the top surface 120. Once the upper sled 130 has been removed, the lower sled 136 is no longer held against the bottom surface 138 by the magnetic attraction between the upper sled magnet 132 and the lower sled magnet 140. However, when the tab ear 168 extends through the second opening 124 and grips onto a portion of the top surface 120 , the tab ear 168 prevents the lower sled 136 from falling into the container 105 .

[0032] To remove the lower sled 136 from the lid assembly 100, the lower sled 136 is rotated 90 degrees so that the tab ear 168 can pass through the second opening 124. FIG. 12D shows the upper sled 130 and the lower sled 136 completely removed from the lid assembly 100.

[0033] 13 shows a schematic cross-sectional view of a portion of a lid assembly 100 coupled to a container 105. In one embodiment, the lid assembly 100 may be resealably coupled to the container 105 by threaded elements on both the sidewall 106 of the lid assembly 100 and the sidewall 202 of the container 105. Elements 204 and 206 are threads on the sidewalls 106 and 202, respectively. It is further contemplated that any threaded geometry may be used to secure the lid assembly 100 to the container 105 without departing from the scope of these disclosures. Alternatively, the various lid assembly 100 configurations described throughout this disclosure may be implemented without a threaded coupling between the lid assembly 100 and the container 105. In one embodiment, the lid assembly 100 may be secured to the container 105 by an interference fit, among other things.

[0034] 14A-14E show alternative implementations of slider mechanisms with alternative disassembly mechanisms. Thus, FIG. 14A shows an isometric view of a lid assembly 300 including slider mechanism 301. The lid assembly 300 may be similar to the lid assembly 100, and the slider mechanism 301 may be similar to the slider mechanism 102. The slider mechanism 301 may include an upper sled 302 similar to the upper sled 130 and a lower sled 306 similar to the lower sled 136. To disassemble the slider mechanism, the upper sled 302 may be manually removed from the lid assembly 300. Similar to the lower sled 136, the lower sled 306 may include tab ears 308 to prevent the lower sled 306 from falling into the container when the upper sled 302 is removed. However, to remove the lower sled 306 from the lid assembly 300, the lower sled 306 is slid to the position shown in Figure 14C so that the geometry of the tab ears 308 aligns with the geometry of the opening 309 in the midwall 310 of the lid assembly 300. When positioned in the configuration shown in Figure 14C, the lower sled 306 can pass through the opening 309, as shown in Figure 14D. Figure 14E shows the upper sled 302 and lower sled 306 completely removed from the lid assembly 300.

[0035] 15 illustrates one implementation of a lid assembly 1500 configured to removably couple to a container 1505 according to one or more embodiments described herein. The lid assembly 1500 and container 1505 may be interchangeable with the lid assembly 100 and container 105 such that the lid assembly 1500 may be removably coupled to the container 105 and the lid assembly 100 may be removably coupled to the container 1505. The lid assembly 1500 may include multiple elements similar to the lid assembly 100 such that the reference numbers used to describe the features of the lid assembly 1500 may include elements of similar features described in connection with the lid assembly 100 if those features are labeled with the first two digits "15" and the last two digits the same as those described in connection with those lid assemblies 100. For example, the slider mechanism 102 described in connection with the lid assembly 100 may be similar to the slider mechanism 1502 as both elements are labeled with a label ending in "02". Additional, alternative, or differential features of the elements of the lid assembly 1500 relative to the elements of the lid assembly 100 may be pointed out in the proceeding description.

[0036] FIG. 16 illustrates a schematic exploded view of multiple elements of a lid assembly 1500 according to one or more embodiments described herein. The lid assembly 1500 generally includes a slider mechanism 1502 configured to move between a closed position and an open position (shown in FIG. 15) to selectively close or open a first opening 1504 configured to allow liquid stored in the container 1505 to flow. The lid assembly 1500 may additionally include a sidewall 1506, which may define a groove 1508 for seating of a gasket 1510. The gasket 1510 may thus provide a seal between the lid assembly 1500 and the container 1505. However, other sealing methods for sealing the lid assembly 1500 to the container 1505 are also contemplated. The lid assembly 1500 may also include a lip 1512 for engaging the opening of the container 1505. The rim 1512 can include a top wall 1514 and gripping elements 1616 (extending from the top wall 1514 to assist a user in removing the lid assembly 1500 from the container 1505). As shown, the gripping elements 1616 include a number of groove elements extending along the vertical wall 1602 of the rim 1512. It is contemplated that these gripping elements 1616 can have any groove geometry (depth, spacing, among others) and can be made from the same or different materials as the rim 1512 elements. Additionally or alternatively, the gripping elements can include a different gripping surface geometry than the grooves shown, such as indentations, protrusions, or relatively smooth gripping surfaces.

[0037] The lid assembly 1500 may include a lid 1501 having an intermediate wall 1518 extending below the rim 1512. An upper surface 1520 of the intermediate wall 1518 may define a recess 1522 for receiving the slider mechanism 1502. In one embodiment, the recess 1522 may define a guide channel when the slider mechanism 1502 moves between the closed and open positions shown in FIG. 15. A first opening 1504 for drinking or pouring liquid from the container may also be formed in the recess 1522. The recess 1522 may also include a second opening 1524. A detent 1526 may extend from the upper surface 1520 of the intermediate wall 1518 into the recess 1522. The detent 1526 may be configured to abut against the slider mechanism 1502 when in the open position to prevent liquid from being compressed between the slider mechanism 1502 and an end wall 1528 of the recess 1522 (which could otherwise result in splashing of liquid that may accumulate within the recess 1522 as a result of a user drinking or pouring from the first opening 1504).

[0038] The slider mechanism 1502 can include a top sled 1530 configured to be positioned within a recess 1522 in the top surface 1520 of the mid-wall 118. The top sled 1530 can include a top magnet sealed therein. In one embodiment, the top magnet can be sealed within a cavity in the top sled 1530 and overmolded with a polymer overmolded plug element. Additional and alternative sealing methods can be used to secure the top magnet within the top sled 1530 without departing from the scope of these disclosures.

[0039] The slider mechanism 1502 may additionally include a lower thread 1536 configured to be positioned adjacent a bottom surface 1538 of the mid-wall 1518 (shown in FIG. 17). Thus, FIG. 17 shows the bottom surface 1538 of the mid-wall 1518. The lower thread 1536 may include a lower thread magnet sealed therein. In one embodiment, the lower thread magnet may be sealed within a cavity in the lower thread and overmolded with a polymer overmolded plug element. Additionally, the slider mechanism 1502 may include a lower gasket 1544 configured to extend around an outer periphery of the lower thread 1536. The lower thread 1536 is described in further detail in relation to FIGS. 18A and 18B. In one embodiment, magnetic attraction between the upper thread magnet and the lower thread magnet magnetically couples the upper thread 1530 to the lower thread 1536 across the mid-wall 1518. Thus, manual manipulation of upper sled 1530 over upper surface 1520 of intermediate wall 1518 results in sliding movement of upper sled 1530 and lower sled 1536 .

[0040] FIG. 17 illustrates a bottom view of a lid assembly 1500 according to one or more embodiments described herein. FIG. 17 illustrates a bottom surface 1538 of the intermediate wall 1518. Thus, as shown, the bottom surface 1538 defines a first sloped feature 1552 on a first side of the second opening 1524. The first sloped feature 1552 has a crest or point 1554 that is spaced between two valley recesses 1556a and 1556b. Similarly, a second sloped feature 1558 is positioned on a second side of the second opening 1524. The second sloped feature 1558 includes a crest or point 1560 that is spaced between two valley recesses 1562a and 1562b.

[0041] The lid assembly 1500 additionally includes a recessed pocket 1561 extending into an inner surface 1563 of a side wall that extends below the bottom surface 1538 of the intermediate wall 1518. Thus, when the slider mechanism 1502 is in the closed position shown in FIG.

[0042] The second opening 1524 may include detents 1548 extending from the intermediate wall 1518 to the second opening 1524. When the slider mechanism 1502 is in the closed position shown in FIG. 15, the detents 1548 are configured to be received in channels 1550 (see FIG. 18B) extending along portions of the curved walls 1646a and 1646b of the lower sled 1536. The detents 1548 are thus configured to provide an interference fit to prevent the slider mechanism 1502 from being inadvertently moved, thereby inadvertently unsealing the first opening 1504. In one embodiment, the slider mechanism 1502 may be configured to lock in the open and / or closed configuration. It is further contemplated that a locking mechanism in addition to the detents 1548 may be used to further prevent the slider mechanism 1502 from being inadvertently moved.

[0043] 18A and 18B show isometric views of the lower sled 1536 according to one or more embodiments described herein. The lower sled 1536 includes an inner surface 1564 configured to be positioned adjacent the bottom surface 1538 of the intermediate wall 1518. The inner surface 1564 includes a lower thread ramp 1566. The lower thread ramp 1566 is configured to be received in one of the valley recesses of each of the first ramp feature 1552 and the second ramp feature 1558. Thus, when the slider mechanism 1502 slides between the open and closed configurations, the lower thread ramp 1566 is configured to slide across the first ramp feature 1552 and the second ramp feature 1558. When the slider mechanism 1502 transitions between the open and closed configurations, the lower thread ramp 1566 will abut the crest surfaces 1554 and 1560. Furthermore, because the crest surfaces 1554 and 1560 are raised against the valley recesses on either side of the crest surfaces 1554 and 1560, this will urge the upper thread 1530 and the lower thread 1536 further apart from each other. Thus, because the magnetic force between the upper and lower thread magnets is inversely proportional to the square of the distance between them, when the lower thread ramp 1566 abuts the crest surfaces 1554 and 1560, the magnetic attraction will be reduced. In one embodiment, this reduction in magnetic force will provide smoother movement of the slider mechanism 1502 between the open and closed positions. Furthermore, when the lower thread ramp 1566 is positioned within the valley recesses of the first and second ramp features 1552 and 1558, the relatively shorter distance between the upper and lower thread magnets will result in a relatively stronger magnetic attraction that helps secure the slider mechanism 1502 in the open or closed configuration.

[0044] The lower thread 1536 includes curved walls 1646a and 1646b extending from the inner surface 1564 to tabs / tab ears 1568a and 1568b. The tab ears 1568a and 1568b are configured to extend through the second opening 1524. The lower thread 1536 further includes a channel 1570 configured to receive a portion of the lower gasket 1544. Additionally, the lower thread 1536 includes lower vent channels 1571a and 1571b. Thus, when the slider mechanism 1502 is in the open configuration, one or more of the lower vent channels 1571a or 1571b can provide a channel for air to pass from the external environment through the slider mechanism 1502 and into the interior cavity of the container 1505. This airflow path can reduce or prevent gurgling sounds when liquid is being poured from the first opening 1504. Additionally, the airflow paths can be configured to vent pressure differentials between the internal cavity of the container 1505 and the external environment. Thus, increased pressure within the internal cavity of the container 1505 can be partially or completely vented as gas / air is allowed to escape through the slider mechanism 1502 to the external environment surrounding the container 1505.

[0045] Additionally, the lower thread 1536 includes a knob air vent 1802 that extends from the sealing surface 1650 through the underside 1804 of the knob 1574. The knob air vent can be configured to allow air to pass between the interior cavity of the container 1505 and the exterior environment surrounding the container 1505. In one embodiment, air can pass through the knob air vent 1802 and through the second opening 1524 to the exterior environment. In one embodiment, when the lower thread 1536 and the upper thread 1530 move from the closed position shown in FIG. 15 to the open position shown generally in FIG. 22, the lower thread 1536 moves away from the upper thread 1530. This movement unscrews the radial ridge 1664 from the sealing surface 1640, allowing air to flow through the knob air vent 1802 between the interior cavity of the container 1505 and the exterior environment. This knob air vent 1802 may reduce or prevent gurgling sounds due to the relative pressure difference between the interior cavity of the container and the external environment when liquid is being poured from the first opening 1504.

[0046] In one embodiment, curved walls 1646a and 1656b can be separated by gaps 1648a and 1648b. These gaps 1648a and 1648b can allow air to escape when a portion of upper thread 1530 contacts sealing surface 1650 of lower thread 1536. In one embodiment, sealing surface 1650 can have a smooth surface texture to enhance the seal between upper thread 1530 and lower thread 1536. In one embodiment, sealing surface 1650 can include a polished surface finish and can be an SPI-A2 finish.

[0047] In one embodiment, the separation distance between the lower surface 1652a or 1652b of the tab ears 1568a and 1568b and the inner surface 1564 can be such that the lower thread 1536 cannot be inserted onto the imprecise side of the slider mechanism 1502. Specifically, the separation distance between the lower surface 1652a or 1652b of the tab ears 1568a and 1568b and the inner surface 1564 can be less than the wall thickness between the top surface 1520 and the bottom surface 1538. This geometry prevents the lower thread 1536 from being inserted into the second opening 1524, such that the inner surface 1564 may contact the recess 1522. FIG. 19 illustrates a configuration in which the lower thread 1536 is on the imprecise top surface 1520 but cannot be fully inserted into the recess 1522.

[0048] FIG. 18B shows an isometric view of the exterior surface 1572 of the bottom sled 1536. In one embodiment, a knob 1574 extends from the exterior surface 1572. The knob 1574 is configured to be gripped by a user to install the slider mechanism 1502 in the lid assembly 1500. The knob 1574 may include a gripping surface finish. In one embodiment, the knob 1574, or a portion thereof, may be formed from a first material and the remainder of the bottom sled 1536 may be formed from a second, different material. In one embodiment, the knob 1574 may have a rubberized exterior surface. The bottom sled 1536 encloses a bottom sled magnet similar to the bottom magnet 142. In one embodiment, the bottom sled magnet of the bottom sled 1536 is enclosed within the knob 1574.

[0049] FIG. 20 shows a view of the inside 1582 of the top sled 1530. The top sled 1530 includes top vent channels 1584a and 1584b. When the top vent channels 1584a and 1584b allow air to pass from the outside environment to the slider mechanism 1502, an air vent path between the outside environment and the interior cavity of the container 1505 can be completed. The top sled recesses 1586a and 1586b are configured to receive a portion of the tab ears 1568a and 1568b of the bottom sled 1536. A cylindrical spacer 1660 extends from the top sled 1530 and is configured to be received between the curved walls 1646a and 1646b of the bottom sled 1536. The cylindrical spacer 1660 includes a lower surface 1662 having a radial ridge 1664. The lower surface 1662 and the radial ridge 1664 are configured to abut the sealing surface 1650. In one embodiment, the radial ridge 1664 forms a seal with the sealing surface 1640 when the upper thread 1530 is magnetically coupled to the lower thread 1536 when the slider mechanism 1502 is in a closed and / or open configuration. The radial ridge 1664 may be formed from a rubber material. In one embodiment, the radial ridge 1664 may be formed from a thermoplastic vulcanizate (TPV) material. The upper thread 1530 seals the upper thread magnet. In one embodiment, the upper thread magnet may be similar to the upper magnet 132. In one embodiment, the upper thread magnet is sealed within the cylindrical spacer 1660.

[0050] In one implementation, the slider mechanism may include an upper thread 1530 and a lower thread 1536 such that movement of the upper thread 1530 urges the lower thread 1536 to move in the same direction. This synchronous movement may result from a cylindrical spacer 1660 of the upper thread 1530 abutting one or more surfaces of the curved walls 1646a and 1646b of the lower thread 1536. In one example, the synchronous movement of the upper thread 1530 and the lower thread 1536 may not utilize a magnet to urge the upper thread 1530 toward the lower thread 1536. In one example, the upper thread 1530 and / or the lower thread 1536 may be implemented without a magnet element such that there is no magnetic attraction between the upper thread 1530 and the lower thread 1536.

[0051] 21A and 21B show isometric and partial cross-sectional views of the lower gasket 1544 according to one or more embodiments described herein. Thus, when the slider mechanism 1502 is in the closed configuration shown in FIG. 15, the lower gasket 1544 is configured to seal the first opening 1504. Additionally, the lower gasket 1544 is configured to seal the second opening 1524. In one embodiment, the inner surface 1588 of the lower gasket 1544 is configured to be positioned over the outer surface 1572 of the lower sled 1536. The opening 1590 in the lower gasket 1544 is configured to allow the knob 1574 of the lower sled 1536 to extend through. In one embodiment, the lower gasket 1544 can be made of silicone. However, additional or alternative polymeric materials can be used without departing from the scope of these disclosures. In one embodiment, the lower gasket 1544 can be integrally molded with the bottom slider 1536. Thus, the lower gasket 1544 may be molded to the bottom slider 1536 from the same or different materials using a single or multi-stage (single or multiple shot) molding process.

[0052] In one embodiment, and as shown in the elevational view of 21B, the lower gasket 1544 can have a lip 1692 that extends farther from the inner surface 1588 than a comparable spring feature 192 of the lower gasket 144. Thus, the lip 1692 can provide an enhanced seal when the lower gasket 1544 is positioned against the bottom surface 1538 of the lid 1501.

[0053] 22 is a schematic representation of the lid assembly 1500 in an open configuration. In one embodiment, the rear wall 1690 of the recess 1522 is configured to abut the upper sled 1530 when positioned in the open configuration of FIG. 22. Thus, when in the open configuration shown, the lower ramp 1566 may be held on the crest surface 1554 (and 1560). In this configuration, the lower gasket 1544 may be spaced from the bottom surface 1538 such that air may flow between the interior cavity of the container 1505, through the lid assembly 1500, and to the exterior environment, thereby preventing or limiting gurgling noises during pouring.

[0054] 23-40 illustrate another implementation of a lid assembly 2000 configured to be removably coupled to a container 1505 according to one or more embodiments described herein. The lid assembly 2000 may be interchangeable with the lid assembly 1500 or the lid assembly 100 such that the lid assembly 2000 may be removably coupled to the container 105, the container 1505, or other similar containers. The lid assembly 2000 may include multiple elements similar to the lid assembly 100 and the lid assembly 1500 such that the reference numbers used to describe the features of the lid assembly 2000 may include elements of similar features described in connection with the lid assemblies 100 and 1500, where those features are labeled with the first two digits "20" and the last two digits the same as described in connection with those lid assemblies 100 and 1500. For example, the slider mechanism 1502 described in connection with the lid assembly 1500 may be similar to the slider mechanism 2002 as both elements are labeled with a label ending with "02". Additionally, features of lid assembly 2000 may include features labeled the same as those shown in connection with lid assembly 1500 having the first two digits "21" or "22" and the last two digits "16" or "18", respectively. Because the features are similar, these features may be described in less detail or not at all with respect to lid assembly 2000. Additional, alternative, or differential features of elements of lid assembly 2000 relative to elements of lid assemblies 100 and 1500 may be pointed out in the description that follows.

[0055] 23-34 show a lid assembly 2000. The lid assembly 2000 generally includes a slider mechanism 2002 configured to move between a closed position (shown in FIG. 23) and an open position to selectively close or open a first opening 2004 configured to allow liquid stored in the container to flow. The lid assembly 2000 may additionally include a sidewall 2006, which may define a groove 2008 for seating of a gasket 2010. The gasket 2010 may thus provide a seal between the lid assembly 2000 and the container. However, other sealing methods for sealing the lid assembly 2000 to the container are also contemplated. The lid assembly 2000 may also include a lip 2012 for engaging the opening of the container. The rim 2012 may also include a top wall 2014 and a gripping feature 2116 and / or an optional lid tab (not shown) extending from the top wall 2014 to assist a user in removing the lid assembly 2000 from the container.

[0056] The lid assembly 2000 may include a lid 2001 having an intermediate wall 2018 extending below the rim 2012. An upper surface 2020 of the intermediate wall 2018 may define a recess 2022 for receiving the slider mechanism 2002. In one embodiment, the recess 2022 may define a guide channel when the slider mechanism 2002 moves between the closed and open positions shown in FIG. 23. A first opening 2004 for drinking or pouring liquid from the container may also be formed in the recess 2022. The recess 2022 may also include a second opening 2024.

[0057] The slider mechanism 2002 may include a top sled 2030 configured to be positioned within a recess 2022 in the top surface 2020 of the mid-wall 2018. The top sled 2030 may include a top magnet sealed therein. In one embodiment, the top magnet may be sealed within a cavity in the top sled 2030 and overmolded with a polymer overmolded plug element. Additional and alternative sealing methods may be used to secure the top magnet within the top sled 2030 without departing from the scope of these disclosures.

[0058] The slider mechanism 2002 may additionally include a lower thread 2036 configured to be positioned adjacent a bottom surface 2038 of the mid-wall 2018 (shown in FIG. 32). Accordingly, FIG. 36 shows the bottom surface 2038 of the mid-wall 2018. The lower thread 2036 may include a lower thread magnet sealed therein. In one embodiment, the lower thread magnet may be sealed within a cavity in the lower thread 2036 and overmolded with a polymer overmolded plug element. Additionally, the slider mechanism 2002 may include a lower gasket 2044 configured to extend around an outer periphery of the lower thread 2036. The lower thread 2036 is described in further detail with respect to FIGS. 38-40. In one embodiment, magnetic attraction between the upper thread magnet and the lower thread magnet magnetically couples the upper thread 2030 to the lower thread 2036 across the mid-wall 2018. Thus, manual manipulation of the upper sled 2030 over the upper surface 2020 of the intermediate wall 2018 results in a sliding movement of the upper sled 2030 and the lower sled 2036 .

[0059] As best shown in FIG. 35, the recess 2022 may include a tapered surface 2025 between the first opening 2004 and the second opening 2024. This tapered surface 2025 may present a first depth of the recess 2022 near and / or adjacent the first opening 2004 may be greater than a second depth adjacent the second opening 2024. The tapered surface 2025 may extend on either or both sides of the first opening 2004. In addition, the tapered surface 2025 may extend on either or both sides of a portion of the second opening 2024. The tapered surface 2025 may allow a front portion 2031 of the top sled 2030 to tilt downward into an area on the tapered surface 2025 to initiate actuation of the slider mechanism 2002 from a closed position to an open position, as discussed in more detail below.

[0060] The upper surface 2023 of the recess 2022 may further include a pair of engagement members 2170. Each engagement member 2170 may include a first angled surface 2172 and a second angled surface 2174 disposed adjacent to one another. The pair of engagement members 2170 may be spaced apart from one another and disposed substantially parallel to one another. In addition, a majority of each engagement member 2170 may be positioned rearward of the second opening 2024. In some embodiments, the entirety of each engagement member 2170 may be positioned rearward of the second opening 2024. Each engagement member 2170 may be individually received within a respective channel 2180, which may be disposed along the lower surface of the upper sled 2030. Each channel 2180 of the lower sled may include a rear channel engagement member 2182. When the slider mechanism 2002 is in the closed position, each rear channel engagement member 2182 may be in front of the engagement member 2170 in the recess 2022, and when the slider mechanism 2002 is in the open position, each rear channel engagement member 2182 may be behind the engagement member 2170. The interaction between the engagement members 2170 and their respective receiving channels 2180 may help guide the slider mechanism 2002 in its forward and rearward movement. Additionally, the engagement members 2170 and the rear channel engagement members 2182 may contact one another and act as stops to limit or restrict the movement of the slider mechanism 2002 to prevent accidental opening of the lid assembly 2000. Although the illustrated lid assembly 2000 shows two engagement members 2170, the lid 2001 may include a single engagement member 2170 that is substantially centered longitudinally within the recess 2022 and positioned rearward of the second opening 2024. The single engagement member 2170 may be received in a centrally located channel 2180 that extends along the underside of the upper sled 2030 .

[0061] Additionally, for each engagement member 2170, the first angle 2172 may be disposed where a first angle between the top surface 2023 and the first angle 2172 (the first angle may be defined in a counterclockwise direction as the angle between the top surface 2023 and the first angle 2172) may be greater than a second angle between the top surface 2023 and the second angle 2174 (the second angle may be defined in a clockwise direction as the angle between the top surface 2023 and the second angle 2174). Similarly, each rear channel engagement member 2182 may have a first angle 2184 and a second angle 2186 disposed adjacent to one another. The first angled surface 2184 may be positioned where a first angle between the bottom channel surface 2185 and the first angled surface 2184 (the first angle may be defined in a counterclockwise direction as the angle between the bottom channel surface 2185 and the first angled surface 2184 when the top sled 2030 has an upwardly facing bottom channel surface 2185) may be less than a second angle of the bottom channel surface 2185 to the second angled surface 2186 (the second angle may be defined in a clockwise direction as the angle between the bottom channel surface 2185 and the second angled surface 2186 when the top sled 2030 has an upwardly facing bottom channel surface 2185). When the slider mechanism 2002 is in the closed position, each second angled surface 2174 of each engagement member 2170 may face the first angled surface 2184 of each aft channel engagement member 2182. When the slider mechanism 2002 is in the open position, each first angled surface 2172 of each engagement member 2170 may face the second angled surface 2186 of the rear channel engagement member 2182 .

[0062] Each channel 2180 may extend through a front surface 2190 of the top sled 2030 and may also extend through a rear surface 2192 of the top sled 2030. Each channel 2180 may be intermittent such that it does not extend continuously from the front surface 2190 to the rear surface 2192. Each channel 2180 may be disposed on either side of the cylindrical spacer 2160 or may be interrupted by the cylindrical spacer 2160. In alternative embodiments, each channel 2180 may be continuous from the front surface 2190 to the rear surface 2192. Each channel 2180 may be spaced apart from one another and substantially parallel to one another. Additionally, each channel 2180 may include a forward channel engagement member 2196. Each forward channel engagement member 2196 may have the same geometry and shape as each rear channel engagement member 2182. Each forward channel engaging member 2196 can be a mirror image of the aft channel engaging member 2182 relative to a plane extending perpendicular to the channel 2180 and through the center of the top sled 2030. Because the channel engaging members 2182, 2196 are positioned as mirror images, the top sled 2030 can be assembled in multiple orientations.

[0063] In addition to the interaction of the channel 2180 and the engagement member 2170, the slider mechanism 2002 may also interact with the lid 2001 in a manner similar to the slider mechanism 1502 and the lid 1501. For example, as shown in FIG. 36, the lid 2001 may have a bottom surface 2038 of the intermediate wall 2018 that includes a first sloped feature 2052 on a first side of the second opening 2024 and a second sloped feature 2058 disposed on an opposing side of the second opening 2024. The first sloped feature 2052 has a crest or point 2054 that is spaced apart between two valley recesses 2056a and 2056b. Similarly, the second sloped feature 2058 may include a crest or point 2060 that is spaced apart between two valley recesses 2062a and 2062b.

[0064] 33A-33F show a process for a user to move slider mechanism 2002 from the closed position shown in FIG. 33A to the fully open position shown in FIG. 33F. The first step in the process shown in FIG. 33B shows slider mechanism 2002 moving slightly rearward from the closed position as the user begins to apply a rearward force, but further movement is prevented by engagement member 2170. Next, in FIG. 33C, the user may press downward on front portion 2031 of top sled 2030, thereby causing rear portion 2033 to move upward. As rear portion 2033 moves upward, any gas or fluid that may be under pressure between top sled 2030, bottom sled 2036, and the container may be vented outward from the rear of top sled 2030, away from where the user may place the lid 2001 on their mouth to drink from. For example, as the upper thread 2030 tilts, the sealing surface 2150 of the lower thread may release from the radial ridge 2164 of the lower surface 2162 of the upper thread 2030, causing the release of any pressurized gas or liquid within the container. Then, as the user applies a rearward force to the slider mechanism 2002, as shown in FIGS. 33D and 33E, the first angled surface 2184 of the rear channel engagement member 2182 may slide along the second angled surface 2174 of the engagement member 2170, allowing the rear channel engagement member 2182 to slide and then move past the engagement member 2170. At the same time, the lower angled thread 2066 of the lower thread 2036 begins to move from the first valley recess 2056a toward the second valley recess 2056b. 33F, the user may continue to apply a rearward force until the lower angled sled 2066 engages the second valley recess 2056b and / or the rear surface 2192 of the upper sled 2030 contacts the top surface of the recess 2022. The lid assembly 2000 is now in the open position and ready to allow fluid to flow through the opening 2004. To move the slider mechanism 2002 back to the closed position, the user may apply a forward force to the upper sled 2030. The second angled surface 2184 slides over the first angled surface 2172 until it reaches the first angled surface 2172, as shown in FIG.The upper sled 2030 then moves to cover the first opening 2004 and move the slider mechanism 2002 into the closed position, as shown in FIG. 33A.

[0065] 37 shows a view of the top sled 2030. The top sled 2030 can include top vent channels 2084a and 2084b. When the top vent channels 2084a and 2084b allow air to pass from the outside environment to the slider mechanism 2002, this vent path between the outside environment and the interior cavity of the container is completed. The top sled recesses 2086a and 2086b are configured to receive a portion of the tab ears 2068a and 2068b of the bottom sled 2036. The cylindrical spacer 2160 extends from the top sled 2030 and is configured to be received between the curved walls 2046a and 2046b of the bottom sled 2036. The cylindrical spacer 2160 includes a lower surface 2162 having a radial ridge 2164. The lower surface 2162 and the radial ridge 2164 are configured to abut the sealing surface 2150 of the lower sled 2036. In one embodiment, the radial ridge 2164 forms a seal with the sealing surface 2150 when the upper sled 2030 is magnetically coupled to the lower sled 2036 when the slider mechanism 2002 is in a closed and / or open configuration. The radial ridge 2164 may be formed from a compliant material, such as a rubber-based material. In one embodiment, the radial ridge 2164 may be formed from a thermoplastic vulcanizate (TPV) material. The upper sled 2030 may enclose an upper sled magnet. In one embodiment, the upper sled magnet may be similar to the upper magnet 132. In one embodiment, the upper sled magnet is enclosed within the cylindrical spacer 2160.

[0066] 38-40 show the lower sled 2036. The lower sled 2036 may include an inner surface 2064 configured to be positioned adjacent the bottom surface 2038 of the intermediate wall 2018. The lower sled 2036 may have features similar to the lower sled 1536, such as the lower angled sled 2066 configured to be received within one of the valley recesses of each of the first angled feature 2052 and the second angled feature 2058 in interaction. Thus, the lower angled sled 2066 is configured to slide across the first angled feature 2052 and the second angled feature 2058 when the slider mechanism 2002 slides between the open and closed configurations. Additionally, the lower sled 2036 may also include curved walls 2146a and 2146b extending from the inner surface 2064 to the tabs / tab ears 2068a and 2068b. The tab ears 2068a and 2068b are configured to extend through the second opening 2024. The lower thread 2036 further includes a channel 2070 configured to receive a portion of the lower gasket 2044. Additionally, the lower thread 2036 may include lower vent channels 2071a and 2071b to provide a channel for air to pass from the external environment, through the slider mechanism 2002, and into the internal cavity of the container. This airflow path may reduce or prevent gurgling sounds when liquid is being poured from the first opening 2004. Additionally, the airflow path may be configured to vent pressure differentials between the internal cavity of the container and the external environment. Thus, increased pressure within the internal cavity of the container may be partially or completely vented as gas / air is allowed to escape through the slider mechanism 2002 to the external environment surrounding the container. This ventilation can also occur when the slider mechanism 2002 is tilted when being moved from a closed to an open position, as discussed above.

[0067] Additionally, the bottom sled 2036 includes a knob air vent 2202 extending from the sealing surface 2150 through the underside 2204 of the knob 2074. The knob air vent 2202 can be configured to allow air to pass between the interior cavity of the container and the exterior environment surrounding the container. In one embodiment, air can pass through the knob air vent 2202, through the second opening 2024, and to the exterior environment. In one embodiment, when the bottom sled 2036 and the top sled 2030 move from a closed position as shown in FIG. 33A to an open position as shown diagrammatically in FIG. 33F, the bottom sled 2036 can be unsealed from the radial ridge 2164 from the sealing surface 2150, allowing air to flow through the knob air vent 2202 between the interior cavity of the container and the exterior environment. This knob air vent 2202 may reduce or prevent gurgling sounds due to the relative pressure difference between the interior cavity of the container and the external environment when liquid is being poured from the first opening 2004.

[0068] 40, the knob air vent 2202 can have a knob air vent 2202 extending from the sealing surface 2150 to the underside 2204. The knob air vent 2202 can include a first vent opening 2206 in the underside 2204, a second vent opening 2208 in the sealing surface 2150, and a vent inner surface 2210 between the first vent opening 2206 and the second vent opening 2208. The knob air vent 2202 can have a first radiused entry portion 2212 (i.e., fillet radius) that transitions from the underside 2204 to the vent inner surface 2210. Similarly, the knob air vent 2202 can have a second radiused entry portion 2214 (i.e., fillet radius) that transitions from the sealing surface 2150 to the vent inner surface 2210 at the second vent opening 2208. By adding the rounded entry portions 2212, 2214, the pressure rise between the upper thread 2030 and the lower thread 2036 can be reduced. In some embodiments, the first vent opening 2206 can have a first diameter and the second vent opening 2208 can have a second diameter, the first diameter can be smaller than the second diameter. Furthermore, the ratio of the first diameter to the second diameter can be about 0.8:1.0 or in a range of 0.7:1.0 to 0.9:1.0. Additionally, the vent inner surface 2210 can include a tapered or conical surface that expands as one moves from the first rounded entry portion 2212 to the second rounded entry portion 2214, or the vent inner surface 2210 can have a substantially cylindrical shape. A third diameter measured at the smallest area along the vent inner surface 2210 (i.e., between the first diameter and the second diameter) can be smaller than the first diameter. The third diameter can be in the range of 1.0-1.25 mm. The first diameter can be in the range of 4 mm-5 mm, or in the range of 3 mm-6 mm. Another way to express the size of the third diameter can be the ratio of the third diameter to the first diameter. For example, the ratio of the third diameter to the first diameter can be about 0.27:1.0, can be in the range of 0.2:1.0-0.3:1.0, or can be in the range of 0.2:1-0.5:1.0. In some embodiments, the first rounded portion can have a radius of about 2.9 mm or in the range of 2.5-3.5 mm, while the second rounded portion can have a radius of about 3.8 mm or in the range of 3.5-4.5 mm. The radius of the first rounded entry portion 2212 can be less than the radius of the second rounded entry portion 2214.Another way to express the size of the rounded entry portions 2212, 2214 is the ratio of the radius of the first rounded entry portion 2212 to the radius of the second rounded entry portion 2214. For example, the ratio of the radius of the first rounded entry portion 2212 to the radius of the second rounded entry portion 2214 may be about 0.76:1, or may be in the range of 0.7:1 to 0.8:1. The geometry of the air vent 2202 may allow air to be released from the container at a rate that prevents any adverse pressure buildup between the contents of the container and the slider mechanism 2002.
