[0003] Technical fields: The present disclosure relates generally to website development, and more particularly, to a system and method for dynamic site compilation for distributed website development in a cloud-based content hub environment. [Background technology]

[0004] background: During the development of any given website, particularly a content-driven website, as well as updates to the content, there are generally two methods for ensuring that website content is delivered to website viewers. These two methods include dynamic fetching of content from a remote location and static caching of content in local storage.

[0005] According to an embodiment, static content can be generally thought of as files that are stored on the server side of a website (e.g., in local storage) and are presented the same each time the content is delivered to a visitor of the website. Examples of such static content include, but are not limited to, images, gifts, HTML, and other types of content that generally do not change between different loads of a given website. Static content can be considered similar to a printed publication - once the content is printed, it is generally not changed or updated. One advantage of static content is that it typically loads very quickly when stored in local storage.

[0006] Conversely, according to an embodiment, dynamic content is content that changes due to user specific factors, typically at each visit, or due to updates or changes in content creation on the website. Generally, a website that relies heavily on dynamic content may change with each website load, for example, due to a team of content creators updating the website in real time and publishing updates to the website. Although dynamic content offers the advantage that the website can stay up to date between subsequent loads (or push refreshes) of the website, such content generally loads slower than cached content, since such dynamic content is stored in a remote location relative to the website server. Summary of the Invention [Problem to be solved by the invention]

[0007] Today's websites contain a mix of both static and dynamic content, yet website developers are generally not very technically minded. It is therefore becoming increasingly important to deliver mechanisms that can enable non-technical content developers to optimize their websites in a way that provides the best, and most up-to-date (in terms of content) experience to end-users visiting such websites. [Means for solving the problem]

[0008] overview: According to an embodiment, embodiments of the present disclosure allow non-technical users, as well as technical users such as website developers, to "mark" or flag various components of a website or page. One category of such marks or flags may indicate that such items marked or flagged with this category should be dynamically loaded upon website access (e.g., fetched from the source and then loaded into the website for viewing), while another category of marks or flags may indicate items so marked to be fixed at compile time (e.g., static cache, i.e., the content is compiled within the published website).

[0009] According to one embodiment, the cost of complex content management system (CMS) queries can be reduced at the execution site by choosing to have certain components compiled into the page (static cache). The CMS queries are then executed during compilation and the results are inserted directly into the compiled page. This results in a better user experience and allows for very large scalability by offloading repetitive calls to the CMS server.

[0010] According to an embodiment, further disclosed herein is an AI / ML engine (variously referred to herein as an AI / ML analytics engine and analytics engine) that can utilize both content analytics and consumption analytics in providing suggested tags to a user and / or can automatically tag certain components and content items of a website based, for example, on confidence scores. DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS

[0012] Detailed Description: The above, together with other features, will become apparent by reference to the accompanying specification, claims, and drawings. Specific details are described to provide an understanding of the various embodiments. However, it will be apparent that the various embodiments may be practiced without these specific details. The accompanying specification and drawings are not intended to be limiting.

[0013] According to an embodiment, a content management system allows content to be created, uploaded, accessed, and modified by multiple users. For example, a content item such as a document may be created and uploaded by one user and then accessed and modified by other users. In addition, a single document can be accessed (e.g., viewed) by multiple users simultaneously. Content management systems can be useful, for example, for enterprises where several individuals collaborate on projects by accessing the same document or set of documents.

[0014] However, complications can arise when a user wishes to upload multiple content items. In such a situation, the user can typically be presented with the option to create an archive file (e.g., a zip file, or other archive file type that merges / compresses multiple content files into a single file) and all files to be uploaded to the ECM application perform a single check-in operation to avoid multiple check-in operations that would be required if each content item was uploaded individually. However, the uploaded archive file is not expanded into a hierarchy that is easy to use by the ECM application, nor are the content items represented outside of the archive file.

[0015] FIG. 1 is a diagram illustrating system or archive file check-in / out in an enterprise content management system according to one embodiment.

[0016] As shown in FIG. 1, according to one embodiment, for each of a number of client devices 100, 102, and 104 having user interfaces 101, 103, 105 and physical device hardware 106, 107, 108 (e.g., CPU, memory), the client device may be provided with a content access application 110, 111, 112 for execution thereon.

[0017] According to one embodiment, the client device can communicate 162 with an application server 130 that includes physical computer hardware 131 (eg, CPU, memory) and an enterprise content management system 132 .

[0018] According to an embodiment, a content access application on a client device can communicate with an enterprise content management system over a network 160 (e.g., the Internet or a cloud environment). The content access application can be configured to enable users 150, 152, 154 to view, upload, modify, delete, or otherwise access content, such as content items 120, 122, 124, at their respective client devices. For example, new content can be added or uploaded to the enterprise content management system by users interacting with the content access application on their associated client devices. The content can be sent to the enterprise content management system for storage.

[0019] According to an embodiment, the enterprise content management system may be or may include a platform for integrating content that may be managed by multiple users of an enterprise. According to an embodiment, the enterprise content management system may be configured to communicate with a content database 136 for storing content (or content items) 140 and may deliver the content to users via their client devices. According to an embodiment, the content database may be a relational database management system (RDBMS), file system, or other data source that the enterprise content management system can access. Content may include, for example, documents, files, emails, notes, images, videos, slide presentations, conversations, and user profiles.

[0020] According to one embodiment, an enterprise content management system can be configured to associate metadata with content. The metadata can include information about an item of content, such as its title, author, release date, historical data such as who accessed the item of content and when, where the content is stored, etc.

[0021] According to one embodiment, the metadata may be stored in a metadata database 138. According to one embodiment, an enterprise content management system may be configured to communicate with the metadata database to access the metadata stored therein and to store metadata generated by the system in the metadata database.

[0022] According to an embodiment, the enterprise content management system may also be configured to communicate with a search index 139. The search index may be configured to provide indexing and searching of content and data stored in the content database and metadata database. According to an embodiment, the search index may be a relational database management system (RDBMS) or a search tool such as Oracle Secure Enterprise Search (Oracle SES).

[0023] According to one embodiment, content stored in the content database can be checked out for modification by a user on the user's client device and checked back into the enterprise content management system.

[0024] According to one embodiment, a checked out document may be locked while it is checked out to a particular user, thereby preventing other users from modifying the checked out document. However, the system may be configured to allow other users to view the document while it is checked out. According to one embodiment, a new version of the content may be created and stored in a content database of the enterprise content management system.

[0025] According to an embodiment, the enterprise content management system may further include a content management application 133 that includes a security component 142. The security component may include or store security data including user permissions and privileges for particular content items and / or particular actions. For example, the security data may indicate that particular users are authorized to access and / or modify particular documents. As another example, the security data may indicate that only particular users are authorized to create links between content items, modify particular content items, or delete content items.

[0026] FIG. 2 is a diagram illustrating system or archive file check-in / out in an enterprise content management system according to one embodiment.

[0027] According to an embodiment, the enterprise content management 210 system generally comprises a repository that stores content (e.g., database 215) and enables access to these stored content items as and when needed via the ECM. Operations frequently performed by users 201, 202 of the ECM system can include check-in and check-out operations, as well as operations that utilize the content items stored in the database 215, such as using the content items on a published website. Access permissions for content items can vary from Read, Write, Delete, and Admin, depending on user privileges.

[0028] According to one embodiment, a content management system, such as the enterprise content management system described above, can form part of a cloud-based content hub.

[0029] According to one embodiment, a cloud-based content hub allows users to manage content and digital assets (e.g., location independent) over a network 205 connection. In addition, such a content hub allows users to store files in a cloud environment and access such files regardless of the user's location.

[0030] According to one embodiment, a cloud-based content hub can provide easy-to-use collaboration and workflow management to streamline content creation and delivery to improve both customer and employee engagement.

[0031] According to an embodiment, current website development and media access is increasingly centered around content. Content is at the heart of almost all marketing and sales efforts. Users in a cloud-based content hub can easily and effectively share, collaborate, process, and manage content. Users can generally access such a hub via any networked computer, tablet, or smartphone. Users can manage content as if it were residing on a local drive, and can add, remove, and move files within the hub as needed. A cloud-based content hub can also be a place for collaboration, where content creators can generate pieces to be published, pending approval by an editor. For example, if a photo needs to be approved before use on a website, the editor, or other users with sufficient credentials, can view the photo (again on any device), approve the photo, and move the photo through the design and publishing process.

[0032] According to an embodiment, a cloud-based content hub may further provide for the sharing of individual files or even entire folders with other users of the content hub, provided security and identification clearances are managed. A content hub may further provide for permissioned sharing, where a user uploading content to be shared can selectively share the content only with designated users. A media-based content hub may further provide for the sharing and collaborative development of collections of websites and digital assets, so other users have access to content needed for a project.

[0033] According to an embodiment, a cloud-based content hub can keep content synchronized between a user's local computer and the cloud. Users can install applications on their local devices that automatically keep files synchronized across the cloud and optionally other user devices. Such sharing also contemplates sharing updates to documents, such as user-generated content.

[0034] According to an embodiment, a user can utilize a cloud-based content hub to communicate with other users regarding a file, folder, content item, or asset to be used for an upcoming promotion and have users post comments about it. Such a file can also be modified via annotations to highlight specific points and make comments about it. Similarly, a cloud-based content hub can be utilized to have user conversations, such as project leads, that allow team members to exchange ideas about projects and processes. Files, such as content, can then be added to such conversations, thus allowing all participants to view, revise, suggest revisions, and comment on the content.

[0035] According to one embodiment, a cloud-based content hub can be used for workflows that can be set up to route content to the right people for approval and revision, eliminating bottlenecks in the process flow. Streamlined process management and content sharing means more efficiency and fewer gaps in shared knowledge.

[0036] According to an embodiment, a cloud-based content hub can be used to create, update and maintain websites. Websites can be created and reviewed with out-of-the-box templates and themes as needed. Users can easily preview how the created site will look on devices with different screens. Page content is automatically repositioned on smaller screens for an optimal mobile experience. Sites can generate always-current material with the latest information and assets.

[0037] According to an embodiment, a user can manage all assets required for a website in one place and set up policies that govern the use of those assets. This can enable website creators to use content and data from existing sources in an easy way.

[0038] According to one embodiment, a cloud-based content hub can be used to publish and update websites and make them immediately available: users can work on one or more updates, preview the updates within the site, and then publish the updates with a single click.

[0039] According to one embodiment, users can create content items such as articles or blog posts or lists and publish those items on a website or in a brochure or wherever needed. The different layouts mean that the content exists separately from the format, freeing users to update the content as needed without worrying about how it will look or whether it will fit on the page.

[0040] Dynamic Site Editing According to one embodiment, a cloud-based content hub can provide visual website assembly tools for knowledge workers (i.e., non-technical users) to build sites by dragging and dropping components onto pages. User actions in building a website can use metadata to define pages, which are then dynamically rendered at runtime.

[0041] According to an embodiment, since run-time pages are dynamically rendered, such websites may suffer from a number of performance issues, including but not limited to: Delayed page start to load page metadata before knowing what to render on the page. Flash of unstyled content (FOUC) while the page is waiting for all CSS to load before it can be rendered. Page animation (jump) as a component renders at different speeds at different positions on the page. The additional server load from every client querying a resource that hasn't changed impacts overall page rendering speed.

[0042] According to one embodiment, one solution to such problems involves server-side component rendering (on a per-request basis). When a request is made, dynamic components are given the opportunity to be "pre-rendered" onto the page so that the initial view of the page is most needed. Additional client-side hydration can then be applied to these pre-rendered components.

[0043] According to an embodiment, another solution to such a problem is static site generation (developer centric): the site is created by a developer, who can use tools to compile a static version of the site. Another example is static site generation (non-technical user centric): the non-technical user builds the site using UI tools. During publishing of the website, the dynamic data is transformed into runtime data and optimized for performance. In addition, there are JSP / PHP / ... per-request page generation tools that can be used for such purposes.

[0044] However, according to certain embodiments, embodiments of the present disclosure allow non-technical users, as well as technical users such as website developers, to "mark" or flag various components of a website or page. One category of such marks or flags may then indicate that such items marked or flagged with this category may continue to be dynamic (i.e., dynamically rendered on website load or refresh), and another category of marks or flags may indicate items so marked to be fixed at compile time (e.g., static cache).

[0045] According to one embodiment, the cost of complex content management system (CMS) queries can be eliminated at the execution site by choosing to compile the components into the page (static cache). The CMS queries are then executed during compilation and the results are inserted directly into the compiled page. This results in a much better user experience and allows for much greater scalability by offloading repetitive calls to the CMS server.

[0046] Component Compilation According to an embodiment, the system allows developers to work with a variety of techniques to optimize a page or site for runtime performance. For example, during site development, a customer's components can be rendered with a framework such as VueJS, so that the components can be dynamically added and updated to the page. According to an embodiment, a developer can create a custom (component) compiler to use during compilation of a particular component, converting the component into HTML / CSS so that it can be injected into the page without using JavaScript.

[0047] According to one embodiment, adding offline site compilation can provide up to a 400% gain in load speed, sometimes more, to the point where the page starts rendering. This is accomplished by reducing the initial page load to a single request rather than several requests to build the page HTML before the page can start rendering. This eliminates any production deployment issues with Flash of Unstyled Content (FOUC) and allows template developers to control how / when pages appear. This improves the experience of users viewing the site as they navigate between pages within the site.

[0048] According to an embodiment, for content-heavy pages, if such content can be defined at compile time, page rendering is instant or near instant, without having to wait for the content query to come back and be available on the page. This not only provides a much better experience for the user viewing the page in a browser, but also offloads all queries from the content server, which are paid for once at compile time, as opposed to being paid for every single page request, resulting in much improved scalability.

[0049] FIG. 3 illustrates a system for dynamic site compilation in a cloud-based content hub environment, according to one embodiment.

[0050] According to an embodiment, a cloud-based content hub 320, which may run on a number of hardware and software resources 321 (e.g., microprocessors, memory, storage, operation systems, etc.), may comprise a client interface 325 (e.g., a graphical user interface, a command line interface, an application programming interface (API), etc.), a content management system 322 (discussed above), a server 330, and a dynamic cache 340. Although illustrated as part of the cloud-based content hub, the server 330, content management system 322, and dynamic cache may instead be accessible by the content hub rather than being considered logically comprising first level components of the content hub.

[0051] According to an embodiment, a client device or user machine 305 that may be accessed and utilized by a user 300 may comprise device hardware (processor, memory, etc.) and software 315, as well as an application such as a content hub application 310 that may be used to communicate with a cloud-based content hub environment over a network such as a wide area network (WAN), a local area network (LAN) or the Internet. The content hub application may comprise a user interface (not shown).

[0052] According to an embodiment, a user may utilize a content hub application, e.g., via a client interface 325, to upload content (e.g., user-generated content such as articles, photos, videos, etc.) to a content hub, e.g., in a content management system. Such uploading and / or synchronization may occur via a manual request, or via an automated process signaled by the content hub application, or by instructions received from the client interface 325. Users may also utilize the content hub application and / or client interface 325 to view, modify, edit, delete, or collaborate on content stored within the content management system, so long as the user is properly authenticated with the content hub (such an authentication system is not shown in FIG. 3 ).

[0053] According to an embodiment, a user may also utilize a website development kit 326 of the client interface 325 to develop and publish websites via the server 330. (The website developer kit may be a standalone service provided by the content hub in other embodiments. For convenience, the kit 326 is shown as part of the client interface in the embodiments described herein.)

[0054] According to one embodiment, as described above, the website development kit can provide multiple website templates and the ability to drag and drop various items onto such templates, allowing a non-technical user 300 to easily use the tools provided. Examples of such development tools can be seen in Figures 10-16.

[0055] According to one embodiment, the website development kit can provide a website pane in which various pre-created templates and items can be placed (e.g., by drag and drop) onto a website template based on received input, and the website template can then be previewed and / or published to the server 330, for example, based on received commands.

[0056] According to one embodiment, the website development kit can interact with a content management system so that any item of content in the content management system to which the user has access can also be provided as an item that can be placed on a website template. For example, if one member of the team is working on an article in the content management system, another member of the team can use said content when developing the website by placing an item containing such content in a template provided by the website development kit.

[0057] According to one embodiment, the website development kit may further provide an item tagging component that may receive input, for example from a user, to tag certain items of the website to be dynamically cached while other items to be placed within the website under development may be tagged as statically cached.

[0058] According to one embodiment, the items of content tagged as static can then be stored / compiled into the website at server 330 (e.g., stored in cache 335) so that when the website is loaded or refreshed, the server does not need to communicate with additional entities to gather the statically tagged content to be displayed or rendered on the website.

[0059] According to one embodiment, items tagged as statically cached may be stored 360, when the website is compiled, in the cache 335 of the server 330 on which the website is compiled. Examples of statically cached items include items on a website that would not change frequently, because such items would only be permitted to change when the website is recompiled or republished, and not upon a mere web page refresh such as would be performed by a viewer of a published website.

[0060] According to an embodiment, items tagged to be dynamically cached can be stored 361, for example, in the dynamic cache / website content database 340 or can be stored in the content management system 322. Examples of statically cached items include items on a website that are subject to frequent changes, since such items would be allowed to change upon web page refresh as performed by a viewer of the published website. As an example, an article that is being revised and / or updated as a story unfolds. When such an article is being worked on within a content management system, a user can place an item corresponding to the story within a target website template via a website development kit and tag the item as dynamic. Then, as the content is updated, the content on the published website is updated 362 as well upon a website refresh or push refresh at the server 330.

[0061] According to one embodiment, items tagged to be dynamically cached may be fetched from either the content management system 322 or the dynamic cache 340 upon loading or refreshing of the website on the server 330, for example.

[0062] FIG. 4 illustrates a system for dynamic site compilation in a cloud-based content hub environment, according to one embodiment.

[0063] According to an embodiment, a cloud-based content hub 420, which may run on a number of hardware and software resources 421 (e.g., microprocessors, memory, storage, operation systems, etc.), may comprise a client interface 425 (e.g., a graphical user interface, a command line interface, an application programming interface (API), etc.), a content management system 422 (as described above), a server 430, a dynamic cache 440, and an artificial intelligence / machine learning (AI / ML) engine 450 that may store and update a training database and associated store / cache 451. Although shown as part of a cloud-based content hub, the server 430, the content management system 422, and the dynamic cache may instead be accessible by the content hub rather than being considered logically comprising first level components of the content hub.

[0064] According to an embodiment, a client device or user machine 405 that may be accessed and utilized by a user 400 may comprise device hardware (processor, memory, etc.) and software 415, as well as an application such as a content hub application 410 that may be used to communicate with a cloud-based content hub environment over a network such as a wide area network (WAN), a local area network (LAN) or the Internet. The content hub application may comprise a user interface (not shown).

[0065] According to an embodiment, a user may utilize a content hub application, e.g., via a client interface 425, to upload content (e.g., user generated content such as articles, photos, videos, etc.) to a content hub, e.g., in a content management system. Such uploading and / or synchronization may occur via a manual request, or via an automated process signaled by the content hub application, or by instructions received from the client interface 425. Users may also utilize the content hub application and / or client interface 425 to view, modify, edit, delete, or collaborate on content stored within the content management system, so long as the user is properly authenticated with the content hub.

[0066] According to an embodiment, a user may also utilize a website development kit 426 of the client interface 425 to develop and publish websites via the server 430. (The website developer kit may be a standalone service provided by the content hub in other embodiments. For convenience, the kit 426 is shown as part of the client interface in the embodiments described herein.)

[0067] According to one embodiment, as described above, the website development kit can provide multiple website templates and the ability to drag and drop various items onto such templates, allowing a non-technical user 400 to easily use the tools provided.

[0068] According to one embodiment, the website development kit can provide a website pane in which various pre-created templates and items can be placed (e.g., by drag and drop) onto a website template based on received input, and the website template can then be previewed and / or published to the server 430, for example, based on received commands.

[0069] According to one embodiment, the website development kit can interact with the content management system so that any item of content in the content management system 422 to which the user has access can also be provided as an item that can be placed (e.g., dragged and dropped) onto a website template. For example, if one member of the team is working on an article in the content management system, another member of the team can use that content when developing a website by placing an item containing such content in a template provided by the website development kit.

[0070] According to an embodiment, the website development kit may further provide an item tagging component that may receive input, for example from a user, to tag certain items of the website to be dynamically cached while other items placed within the website under development may be tagged as statically cached. Such tags may include metadata that is attached to the content items.

[0071] According to an embodiment, the items of content tagged as static can then be stored / compiled at server 430 into the website (e.g., stored in cache 435) so that when the website is loaded or refreshed, the server does not need to communicate with an additional entity to gather the statically tagged content to be displayed or rendered on the website. In this manner, visitors to website 470 can utilize visitor machine 471 to browse and interact with the website. When the website is loaded or refreshed, the items that are statically tagged will load faster than items that are dynamically fetched upon load / refresh.

[0072] According to an embodiment, items tagged to be dynamically cached can be stored 461, for example, in the dynamic cache / website content database 440 or can be stored in the content management system 422. Examples of statically cached items include items on a website that are subject to frequent changes, because such items would be allowed to change upon web page refresh as performed by a viewer of the published website. As an example, an article that is being revised and / or updated as a story unfolds. When such an article is being worked on within a content management system, a user can place an item corresponding to the story within a target website template via a website development kit and tag the item as dynamic. Then, when the content is updated, the content on the published website is updated 462 as well upon a website refresh or push refresh at the server 430.

[0073] According to one embodiment, items tagged to be dynamically cached can be fetched from either the content management system 422 or the dynamic cache 440, e.g., upon loading or refreshing of the website at the server 430, from a visitor 470 who, e.g., views or loads the website compiled at the server 430 via a visitor machine 471.

[0074] According to one embodiment, items tagged as statically cached may be stored 460, when the website is compiled, in the cache 435 of the server 430 on which the website is compiled. Examples of statically cached items include items on a website that would not change frequently, because such items would only be permitted to change when the website is recompiled or republished, and not upon a mere web page refresh such as would be performed by a viewer of a published website.

[0075] According to an embodiment, items tagged to be dynamically cached can be stored 461, for example, in the dynamic cache / website content database 440 or can be stored in the content management system 422.

[0076] According to an embodiment, the AI / ML engine 450 can monitor and track the lifecycle of content published on a website hosted on the server 430 via the AI / ML engine's content analysis engine (also referred to herein as analysis engine), which is a content analysis engine that utilizes the knowledge database in the cache 435. Metrics that can be tracked by the content analysis engine can include, for example, frequency of publication (website load or refresh of a page containing the content item). Metrics that can be tracked by the content analysis engine can further include, for example, the rate of change of each content item published on the website (whether the item is static or dynamic). This tracking can be performed by monitoring the website at the server and in its associated cache 435, and can further include monitoring the content management system and the dynamic cache for, for example, the rate of updates to the content items in the content management system 422 and the dynamic cache 440. Additional metrics that may be tracked by the AI / ML engine's content analysis engine may include monitoring both content usage / viewing of content on the website (e.g., by viewers 470) (e.g., the broadness of usage) as well as individual usage of content items in the content management system 422, the dynamic cache 440, and the server's cache 435.

[0077] According to one embodiment, such an analytics engine may collect information regarding, for example, popular pages of a public website, popular content, pages on which visitors spend the most time, and the like.

[0078] Auto-suggest content based on analytics According to an embodiment, the AI / ML engine can provide one or more suggestions 490 to the user 400, e.g., via the user machine 405, regarding which content items would be most effective to be tagged as static and which content items would be most effective to be tagged as dynamic based on the monitored metrics associated with the content items.

[0079] FIG. 5 illustrates a system for dynamic site compilation in a cloud-based content hub environment, according to one embodiment.

[0080] According to an embodiment, a cloud-based content hub 520, which may run on a number of hardware and software resources 521 (e.g., microprocessors, memory, storage, operation systems, etc.), may comprise a client interface 525 (e.g., a graphical user interface, a command line interface, an application programming interface (API), etc.), a content management system 522 (as described above), a server 530, a dynamic cache 540, and an artificial intelligence / machine learning (AI / ML) engine 550 that may store and update a training database and associated store / cache 551. Although shown as part of a cloud-based content hub, the server 530, content management system 522, and dynamic cache may instead be accessible by the content hub rather than being considered logically comprising first level components of the content hub.

[0081] According to an embodiment, a client device or user machine 505 that may be accessed and utilized by a user 500 may comprise device hardware (processor, memory, etc.) and software 515, as well as an application such as a content hub application 510 that may be used to communicate with a cloud-based content hub environment over a network such as a wide area network (WAN), a local area network (LAN) or the Internet. The content hub application may comprise a user interface (not shown).

[0082] According to an embodiment, a user may utilize a content hub application, e.g., via a client interface 525, to upload content (e.g., user generated content such as articles, photos, videos, etc.) to a content hub, e.g., in a content management system. Such uploading and / or synchronization may occur via a manual request, or via an automated process signaled by the content hub application, or by instructions received from the client interface 525. Users may also utilize the content hub application and / or client interface 525 to view, modify, edit, delete, or collaborate on content stored within the content management system, so long as the user is properly authenticated with the content hub.

[0083] According to an embodiment, a user may also utilize a website development kit 526 of the client interface 525 to develop and publish websites via the server 530. (The website developer kit may be a standalone service provided by the content hub in other embodiments. For convenience, the kit 526 is shown as part of the client interface in the embodiments described herein.)

[0084] According to one embodiment, as described above, the website development kit can provide multiple website templates and the ability to drag and drop various items onto such templates, allowing a non-technical user 500 to easily use the tools provided.

[0085] According to one embodiment, the website development kit can provide a website pane in which various pre-created templates and items can be placed (e.g., by drag and drop) onto a website template based on received input, and the website template can then be previewed and / or published to the server 530, for example, based on received commands.

[0086] According to one embodiment, the website development kit can interact with the content management system so that any item of content in the content management system 522 to which the user has access can also be provided as an item that can be placed (e.g., dragged and dropped) onto a website template. For example, if one member of the team is working on an article in the content management system, another member of the team can use that content when developing a website by placing an item containing such content in a template provided by the website development kit.

[0087] According to an embodiment, the website development kit may further provide an item tagging component that may receive input, for example from a user, to tag certain items of the website to be dynamically cached while other items placed within the website under development may be tagged as statically cached. Such tags may include metadata that is attached to the content items.

[0088] According to an embodiment, the items of content tagged as static can then be stored / compiled at server 530 into the website (e.g., stored in cache 535) and upon loading or refreshing the website, the server does not need to communicate with an additional entity to gather the statically tagged content to be displayed or rendered on the website. In this manner, visitors to website 570 can utilize visitor machine 571 to browse and interact with the website. Upon loading or refreshing the website, the items tagged as static will load faster than items that are dynamically fetched upon load / refresh.

[0089] According to an embodiment, items tagged to be dynamically cached can be stored 561, for example, in the dynamic cache / website content database 540 or can be stored in the content management system 522. Then, when the content is updated, the content on the published website is updated 562 as well upon a website refresh or push refresh in the server 530.

[0090] According to one embodiment, items tagged to be dynamically cached can be fetched from either the content management system 522 or the dynamic cache 540, e.g., upon loading or refreshing of the website at the server 530, from a visitor 570 who, e.g., views or loads the website compiled at the server 530 via a visitor machine 571.

[0091] According to one embodiment, items tagged as statically cached may be stored 560, when the website is compiled, in the cache 535 of the server 530 on which the website is compiled. Examples of statically cached items include items on a website that would not change frequently, because such items would only be permitted to change upon recompilation or republishing of the website, and not upon a mere web page refresh such as would be performed by a viewer of a published website.

[0092] According to an embodiment, items tagged to be dynamically cached can be stored 561, for example, in the dynamic cache / website content database 540 or can be stored in the content management system 522. Then, when the content is updated, the content on the published website is updated 562 as well upon a website refresh or push refresh in the server 530.

[0093] According to an embodiment, the AI / ML engine 550 can monitor and track the lifecycle of content published on the website hosted on the server 530 via the AI / ML engine's content analysis engine, which is a content analysis engine that utilizes the knowledge database in the cache 535. Metrics that can be tracked by the content analysis engine can include, for example, frequency of publication (website load or refresh of a page containing the content item). Metrics that can be tracked by the content analysis engine can further include, for example, the rate of change of each content item published on the website (whether the item is static or dynamic). This tracking can be performed by monitoring the website at the server and in its associated cache 535, and can further include monitoring the content management system and the dynamic cache for, for example, the rate of updates to the content items in the content management system 522 and the dynamic cache 540. Additional metrics that may be tracked by the AI / ML engine's content analysis engine may include monitoring both content usage / viewing of content on the website (e.g., by viewers 570) (e.g., the broadness of use) as well as individual usage of content items in the content management system 522, the dynamic cache 540, and the server's cache 535.

[0094] According to one embodiment, such an analytics engine may collect information regarding, for example, popular pages of a public website, popular content, pages on which visitors spend the most time, and the like.

[0095] According to an embodiment, the AI / ML engine can automatically mark some content as static 590 (i.e., compiled with the website and stored in the cache 535) and some other content as dynamic 591 (i.e., stored in the dynamic cache 540 or content management system 522) based on monitored metrics associated with the content items. Such automatic tagging of content items as either static or dynamic may be done based on a determination by a content analysis engine (of the AI / ML engine) as to which content items are most effective to be tagged as dynamic and which content items are most effective to be tagged as static.

[0096] FIG. 6 illustrates a flow chart of a suggestion engine for use in dynamic site compilation in a cloud-based content hub environment, according to one embodiment.

[0097] According to one embodiment, as discussed above, the website development kit discussed above can operate in conjunction with a suggestion and automatic tagging engine that is used in tagging various website elements as dynamic or static.

[0098] According to one embodiment, in step 650, a content author, such as user 600, can manage and publish content to a cloud-based content hub, for example, via a client interface. Such content can be managed and published in a content management and publishing system 605, which can comprise, for example, a content management system as described above.

[0099] According to an embodiment, in step 651, a lifecycle analysis 610 of the published content can be tracked via a content analysis engine 640, which may be based on artificial intelligence and machine learning via a knowledge database, for example. Such tracking metrics can include frequency of publication, rate of change of content, content classification, scheduled publishing activity, and similarity to other qualified content (e.g., content that previously underwent static compilation).

[0100] According to one embodiment, in step 652, a content author, such as user 600, can utilize a website authoring interface 615, such as a website development kit, to design and build the website, for example via provided website templates and drag-and-drop functionality, and place various items, including the published content from step 650, on the draft website.

[0101] Note that in step S653, the user 600 may build (e.g., compile, package, and optimize) 620 the website prior to publication (before the website is made available for public viewing or internal viewing by others with authorized access). Such a website may be previewed, for example, by the author, and then modified and previewed again.

[0102] According to an embodiment, in step 654, the website (as compiled website 625) may be published, for example, to a publicly accessible server, which may be accessed (655) by website visitors 630. As described above, the compiled website 625 may include both content that is tagged as both static content (e.g., content items that are compiled with the website as static content and are not fetched from alternate sources on website load / refresh) or dynamic content (e.g., content items that are not compiled with the website as static content, but rather are fetched from alternate sources, such as the content management system 605 or a dynamic cache on website load / refresh).

[0103] According to an embodiment, the consumption analytics engine 635 can collect website visitor / website behavior for the website as the website viewers 640 interact with the published website in step 656. Such analytics engine can collect information regarding, for example, popular web pages, popular content on the web pages, engagement (time spent on a page / content, repeat views by the same user, bounce rate), direct accessed pages (e.g., direct page access from search engine results, etc.), custom conversions.

[0104] According to an embodiment, in step 657, an artificial intelligence / machine learning tagging engine 640 can monitor the analytics collected from steps 651 and 656 to generate recommendations 658 regarding tagging (static vs. dynamic) decisions. The engine 640 can be associated with a knowledge database (not shown) that can include a set of seed data and can be built based on analysis of the analyzed metrics and accuracy of the engine 640 output.

[0105] According to an embodiment, the engine 640 can present optimized tagging suggestions / recommendations to the site author (eg, via the website authoring interface 615) in step 658.

[0106] According to an embodiment, the AI / ML engine constantly monitors both content and consumption analytics, and thus the engine 640 can modify and change previous tag suggestions / decisions based on analysis of subsequent metrics (metrics generated after the initial tag suggestions / decisions).

[0107] According to one embodiment, the AI / ML engine can perform analytics such as the following examples: Content Entitlement Metrics: 1. Publication Frequency (CQw1) 2. Content change rate (CQw2) 3. Content Classification (CQw3) 4. Schedule publication activities (CQw4) 5. Similarity to other qualifying content (content previously statically compiled) (CQw5) ==Content Qualification(CQ)=fn(CQw1,CQw2,CQw3,CQw4,CQw5) Entitlement Metrics: 1. Popular Pages (UQw1) 2. Popular content (UQw2) 3. Engagement (time spent on page / content, repeated views by same user, bounce rate) (UQw3) 4. Direct access pages (e.g., direct access from search engine results) (UQw4) 5. Custom Conversion (UQw5) == Eligibility (UQ) = fn(UQw1, UQw2, UQw3, UQw4, UQw5) Now, the AI / ML engine executes the following process: 1. For each content item in the system: a. Calculate CQ and UQ continuously.

[0108] 2. Periodically compute: a. Generate a list of top candidates (content items) for static compilation.

[0109] b. Suggest / automatically tag static compilation based on the generated list of top candidates.

[0110] Automatic content selection based on analytics FIG. 7 illustrates a flow chart of an auto-tagging engine for use in dynamic site compilation in a cloud-based content hub environment, according to one embodiment.

[0111] According to one embodiment, as discussed above, the website development kit discussed above can operate in conjunction with a suggestion and automatic tagging engine that is used in tagging various website elements as dynamic or static.

[0112] According to one embodiment, in step 750, a content author, such as user 700, can manage and publish content to a cloud-based content hub, for example, via a client interface. Such content can be managed and published in a content management and publishing system 705, which can comprise, for example, a content management system as described above.

[0113] According to an embodiment, in step 751, a lifecycle analysis 710 of the published content can be tracked via a content analysis engine 740, which may be based on artificial intelligence and machine learning via a knowledge database, for example. Such tracking metrics can include frequency of publication, rate of change of the content, and pervasiveness of use of the content.

[0114] According to one embodiment, in step 752, a content author, such as user 700, can utilize a website authoring interface 715, such as a website development kit, to design and build the website, for example via provided website templates and drag-and-drop functionality, and place various items, including the published content from step 750, on the draft website.

[0115] Note that in step S753, the user 700 may build (e.g., compile, package, and optimize) 720 the website prior to publication (before the website is made available for public viewing or for internal viewing by others with authorized access). Such a website may be previewed, for example, by the author, and then modified and previewed again.

[0116] According to an embodiment, in step 754, the website (as compiled website 725) may be published, for example, to a publicly accessible server, which may be accessed (755) by website visitors 730. As described above, the compiled website 725 may include both content that is tagged as both static content (e.g., content items that are compiled with the website as static content and are not fetched from alternate sources on website load / refresh) or dynamic content (e.g., content items that are not compiled with the website as static content, but rather are fetched from alternate sources, such as the content management system 705 or a dynamic cache on website load / refresh).

[0117] According to one embodiment, the consumption analytics engine 735 may collect website visitor / website behavior for the website as the website viewers 740 interact with the published website in step 756. Such analytics engine may collect information regarding, for example, popular pages of the published website, popular content, pages on which viewers spend the most time, etc.

[0118] According to an embodiment, in step 757, an artificial intelligence / machine learning tagging engine 740 can monitor the analytics collected from steps 751 and 756 to automatically tag (758) certain items of content as static or dynamic as building the website. In this manner, as opposed to presenting options to the user 700 as to what items of content should be tagged as static or dynamic, the engine 740 can make the decision itself, thus simplifying the website design and building process for the user 700. The engine 640 can be associated with a knowledge database (not shown), which can include a set of seed data and can be built based on an analysis of the analyzed metrics and the accuracy of the output of the engine 640.

[0119] According to one embodiment, the engine 740 may make such tagging decisions in step 758 based on a determination made regarding the benefit of tagging one, some, or all of the items of content as either static or dynamic, and based on that analysis, may automatically select tags for various items on the website and compile components into the website.

[0120] According to an embodiment, the AI / ML engine constantly monitors both content and consumption analytics, and thus the engine 740 can modify and change previous tag suggestions / decisions based on analysis of subsequent metrics (metrics generated after the initial tag suggestions / decisions).

[0121] FIG. 8 illustrates a flow chart of an auto-tagging engine for use in dynamic site compilation in a cloud-based content hub environment, according to one embodiment.

[0122] According to one embodiment, as discussed above, the website development kit discussed above can operate in conjunction with a suggestion and automatic tagging engine that is used in tagging various website elements as dynamic or static.

[0123] According to one embodiment, in step 850, a content author, such as user 800, can manage and publish content to a cloud-based content hub, for example, via a client interface. Such content can be managed and published in a content management and publishing system 805, which can comprise, for example, a content management system as described above.

[0124] According to an embodiment, in step 851, a lifecycle analysis 810 of the published content can be tracked via a content analysis engine 840, which can be based on artificial intelligence and machine learning via a knowledge database, for example. Such tracking metrics can include frequency of publication, rate of change of the content, and pervasiveness of use of the content.

[0125] According to one embodiment, in step 852, a content author, such as user 800, can utilize a website authoring interface 815, such as a website development kit, to design and build the website, for example via provided website templates and drag-and-drop functionality, and place various items, including the published content from step 850, on the draft website.

[0126] Note that in step S853, the user 800 may build (e.g., compile, package, and optimize) 820 the website prior to publication (before the website is made available for public viewing or for internal viewing by others with authorized access). Such a website may be previewed, for example, by the author, and then modified and previewed again.

[0127] According to an embodiment, in step 854, the website (as a compiled website 825), for example, can be published to a publicly accessible server, which can be accessed (855) by website visitors 830. As described above, the compiled website 825 can include both content that is tagged as both static content (e.g., content items that are compiled with the website as static content and are not fetched from alternate sources on website load / refresh) or dynamic content (e.g., content items that are not compiled with the website as static content, but rather are fetched from alternate sources, such as the content management system 805 or a dynamic cache on website load / refresh).

[0128] According to an embodiment, the consumption analytics engine 835 can collect website visitor / website behavior for the website as the website viewers 840 interact with the published website in step 856. Such analytics engine can collect information regarding, for example, popular pages of the published website, popular content, pages on which viewers spend the most time, etc.

[0129] According to an embodiment, in step 857, an artificial intelligence / machine learning tagging engine 840 can monitor the analytics collected from steps 851 and 856 to automatically tag (858) certain items of content as static or dynamic as building the website. In this manner, as opposed to presenting options to the user 800 as to what items of content should be tagged as static or dynamic, the engine 840 can make the decision itself, thus simplifying the website design and building process for the user 800. The engine 840 can be associated with a knowledge database (not shown), which can include a set of seed data and can be built based on an analysis of the analyzed metrics and the accuracy of the output of the engine 840.

[0130] According to an embodiment, a user can configure the engine 840 with a variable confidence score index, and if the confidence score is not met in 841, tag suggestions below the set confidence score can be provided to the user to make a static / dynamic content tagging decision in step 858. If the confidence score is met in 841, the engine 840 can automatically make a tagging decision 859, and such content can be automatically built into the website without user approval.

[0131] According to an embodiment, the AI / ML engine constantly monitors both content and consumption analytics, and thus the engine 840 can modify and change previous tag suggestions / decisions based on analysis of subsequent metrics (metrics generated after the initial tag suggestions / decisions).

[0132] FIG. 9 is a flow chart of a method for an automatic tagging engine for use in dynamic site compilation in a cloud-based content hub environment, according to one embodiment.

[0133] According to one embodiment, a site may be created and published, at 900. At 905, the site (or a page of the site) may be edited.

[0134] According to an embodiment, if the edit involves adding a component to the website at 910, then it can be checked at 915 whether the component references a piece of content from a content management system such as a cloud-based content hub. If not, then at 320 the item can be tagged or suggested to be tagged for rendering during compilation of the website (static cache).

[0135] According to an embodiment, if the component references a content item, the method may check whether the content item is active at 925. If not, the item may be tagged or suggested to be tagged at 920 for rendering during compilation of the website (static caching). If so, the item may be tagged or suggested to be tagged at 930 for rendering the item at runtime (dynamic caching).

[0136] According to an embodiment, if the edit involves adding a content item or digital asset at 935, the method may check whether the content item is active at 925. If not, the item may be tagged or suggested to be tagged at 920 for rendering during compilation of the website (static caching). If so, the item may be tagged or suggested to be tagged at 930 for rendering the item at runtime (dynamic caching).

[0137] According to an embodiment, if the edits include adding a content list to the website at 940, then a check can be made to see if the content list results are active at 945. If not, then at 920 the item can be tagged or suggested to be tagged for rendering during compilation of the website (static cache).

[0138] According to an embodiment, if a content list result is active, at 930 the item may be tagged or suggested to be tagged so that the item is rendered at runtime (dynamic cache).

[0148] More specifically, Figure 14 is a screenshot of an exemplary website design portal / toolkit provided in a cloud-based content hub illustrating drag-and-drop functionality for content assets that may be selected to be loaded into a website design, either statically or dynamically, according to one embodiment. Such content assets may be stored, for example, in a content management system, as described above.

[0149] FIG. 15 is a screenshot of an exemplary website design portal / toolkit provided in a cloud-based content hub, according to one embodiment.

[0150] More specifically, Figure 15 is a screenshot of an exemplary website design portal / toolkit provided in a cloud-based content hub showing content items selected / tagged to be statically compiled into the published website or dynamically fetched at website load time, according to one embodiment. In the displayed screenshot of Figure 9, the content listing "Starter Blog Author" can be designated as static and compiled into the published website to reduce website load time.

[0151] FIG. 16A is a screenshot of an exemplary website design portal / toolkit provided in a cloud-based content hub according to one embodiment.

[0152] More specifically, Figure 16A is a screenshot of an exemplary website design portal / toolkit provided in a cloud-based content hub showing a settings window for a selected content item. The settings window provides a user with flagging options for optionally rendering the content item when the website is published. In some embodiments, such options may be selected via user interaction. In other embodiments, as described above, the engine may provide suggested tags for such content items, or may even dynamically tag the content items without user interaction, again as described above.

[0153] FIG. 16B is a screenshot of an exemplary website design portal / toolkit provided in a cloud-based content hub according to an embodiment.

[0154] More specifically, Figure 16B is a screenshot of an exemplary website design portal / toolkit provided in a cloud-based content hub showing a settings window for a selected content item. The content item settings window can provide optimization tips 1610, for example, when a user or developer hovers over or selects an interactive icon in the user interface. For example, the optimization tips can include suggestions to render in public (static) or render in load (dynamic) for a selected content item on a page. Such suggestions 1610 can be based on analysis of an AI / ML engine of one or both of consumption analytics or content analytics.

[0155] According to one embodiment, the results of the AI / ML analysis of consumption analytics and content analytics are thus surfaced via a user interface, for example in a manner that gives the user or developer suggestions to select any given piece of content on the site to be either statically published (optimized) as described above or left to be dynamically loaded.

[0156] FIG. 16C is a screenshot of an exemplary website design portal / toolkit provided in a cloud-based content hub according to an embodiment.

[0157] More specifically, FIG. 16C is a screenshot of an exemplary website design portal / toolkit provided in a cloud-based content hub showing a settings window for a selected content item. The content item settings window can display automatic / automated selections for optimization of content on the website, for example, when a user or developer hovers over or selects an interactive icon in the user interface. For example, the optimization tips can include an explanation regarding the AI / ML engine's decision to mark the selected content item for rendering public (static) or loaded (dynamic) based on analysis of consumption analytics and content analytics for a selected content item on a page. Such an explanation 1620 can be based on the AI / ML engine's analysis of one or both of consumption analytics or content analytics.

[0158] According to one embodiment, the results of the AI / ML analysis of consumption analytics and content analytics are thus surfaced, as described above, to the user or developer, for example via a user interface, to provide the user with an explanation that the system has selected content on the site to be statically published (optimized) or left to be dynamically loaded.

[0159] According to one embodiment, a user or site developer can override static / dynamic decisions made by the system based on AI / ML analysis of content and consumption analytics.

[0160] Automatic selection of dynamic or static data According to an embodiment, instead of providing suggestions, the system makes a decision and selects pieces of content to be statically compiled. Such decision-making process can be based, for example, on a set of defined criteria (e.g., this content must have X level of certainty that it will change with every page view). This can be useful, for example, when a content creator / marketer is inundated with a huge number of options as presented by the above embodiments. In such cases, an option can be selected to hand over the decision-making process regarding statically compiled content to a suggestion engine.

[0161] Custom Components As described above, in accordance with one embodiment, the system allows developers to work with a variety of techniques to optimize a page or site for runtime performance, including in some instances the use of custom (component) compilers for use during compilation of specific components, converting components into HTML / CSS that can be injected into a page without the use of JavaScript.

[0162] The types of components that can be added to a page include, for example, a paragraph, a title, an image, or a divider, and can be defined by local or remote component files. Local component files are stored on a local server and can be configured to render directly in the page or in an iline frame in the page. Remote component files are stored on a remote server and are always rendered in an iline frame.

[0163] According to an embodiment, a component may be associated with a JavaScript JSON (render.js) file and may further be associated with a template that describes how its content is to be displayed, for example within a site theme. Once added to a site, developers can edit the component's property settings to address requirements such as page content, fonts and font sizes, image framing and positioning, and other styles. For example, a local component may be defined as follows:

[0164]

number

[0165] As another example, a local component that uses an iframe might be defined as follows:

[0166]

number

[0167] As another example, a remote component can be defined as follows:

[0168]

number

[0169] According to one embodiment, a developer can create component compilation specific instructions for a particular component that are passed during compilation and act as a custom (component) compiler to convert that particular component into HTML / CSS and then inject that component into the page. Alternatively, if there is a custom compiler defined for a particular component, the component compilation specific instructions associated with that particular component will be used to modify the resulting HTML to be injected into the page. If there is no custom compiler defined for a particular component, the component will be rendered according to the normal process, for example, via the component's render.js file.

[0170] According to an embodiment, a custom compiler can also indicate that a component requires JavaScript "hydration" at runtime, in which case the component's hydrate() function in the component's render.js file will be called. Alternatively, if the component does not require hydration, the component's render.js file will not be loaded.

[0171] FIG. 17 illustrates a process for compiling a component according to one embodiment. 17, according to an embodiment, a request to compile the site is received at 1710. For example, this may be a manual request, or may be triggered automatically by editing the site in a user interface, or by any of the various embodiments of the AI / ML suggestion or prediction process described above.

[0172] At 1712, a determination is made as to whether all pages have been compiled, and if so, at 1714, the compiled site is provided.

[0173] If not, each of the pages that make up the site are compiled at 1720. During compilation of the pages, a determination is made as to whether a page template compiler exists at 1722. If so, the page templates are compiled at 1724. If not, an existing page template may be used at 1726.

[0174] At 1730, a determination is made as to whether all components are compiled. If so, at 1732, the page is compiled.

[0175] Each component instance that makes up the page is compiled at 1740. The component is marked for compilation at 1742, and if a component compiler is present at 1744, the component is compiled at 1760. Otherwise, the component is rendered at runtime at 1750.

[0176] Following compilation of all components in the page, at 1770 the process continues with the next page until all pages in the site have been compiled.

[0177] Page Layout Compiler According to one embodiment, the page layout compiler is provided as a JavaScript module that compiles a corresponding page layout. The page layout compiler for a particular page layout is defined by a name association with the "-compile.js" extension:

[0178]

number

[0179] If "-compile.js" does not exist for a page layout, custom compilation will not be applied. A page layout compiler must implement the "compile()" interface, which returns certain expectations. For example: about-compile.js:

[0180]

number

[0181] Custom Compiler According to an embodiment, custom compilers are supported for page layouts; section layouts; custom components; and content layouts. During compilation, the compile template command will look for a "compile.js" file in the same location as the component's "render.js":

[0182]

number

[0183] If this file does not exist, the component will not be compiled and will be rendered at runtime. If this file does exist, it must implement a "compile()" interface, which returns certain expectations. For example,

[0184]

number

[0185] Component Hydration As mentioned above, the component compiler inserts HTML into the page. If a component requires additional JavaScript to be executed at runtime to add things like event handlers, one approach is to inline the JavaScript, i.e. <script>タグを挿入」を、返されるコンパイルされたマークアップに直接挿入することができ、それは、ページが実行されると、実行されることになる。例えば:

[0186]
