Composition containing ingredients derived from Japanese pepper or connarus

Abstract

The populations of industrialized countries around the world are rapidly aging. In order for aged individuals to stay healthy both physically and mentally, the maintenance of muscle mass and bone mass is instrumental; however, aged individuals often undergo a reduction in muscle mass and bone mass caused not only by advancing age but also as symptoms of disuse syndrome resulting from reduced physical activity or prolonged inactivity. Consequently, there has been a need for a composition that can be used to augment muscle mass and bone mass, particularly in aged individuals. The inventors of the present invention discovered that disuse syndrome can be effectively prevented or treated with Zanthoxylum fruit, a spice that has been used since early times as food and herbal medicine in the Orient, and Connarus, plants in the family of Connaraceae native to Brazil, and thus have achieved the present invention.
