AI Technical Summary
Technical Problem
Current molds for casting adhesives inspired by directional geckos are non-durable and limited to only a few cycles, making them unsuitable for mass production.
Method used
A durable mold with a deeply inclined shape and undercut wedge structure is developed, manufactured using an indirect molding method involving electroplating and metal stacking, allowing for repeated molding cycles without deterioration.
Benefits of technology
The mold produces adhesives with consistent shape, surface finish, and adhesive strength, maintaining performance even after multiple molding cycles, enabling mass production of high-quality directional dry adhesive wedges.

Abstract
The present invention provides a mold and a method for making the mold for casting directional gecko-inspired adhesives that require deep sloped shapes and undercut wedge structures. Durable molds can be used for mass production. In one example, compression molding is used to mass produce the adhesive. What currently takes 24 hours to produce can be produced in 5 minutes with compression molding. Compression molding can increase production from one adhesive patch per day to thousands.
