Description

[Technical Field]

[0001] The present invention relates to a floor system for a vehicle, and more particularly to a floor garnish for a vehicle. [Background technology]

[0002] Vehicles are typically upholstered with a mixture of fabric, vinyl, leather, and wood. Flooring is typically fabric mats or vinyl covers permanently attached using plastic rivets, weatherstripping, or metal brackets, such as on car seat frames. For example, Zhang (Patent Document 1) teaches a system that includes plates inserted into each corner of a laminate and extending outward from the corners in all directions. Patent Document 1 does not teach brackets that are attached to a garnished floor or vehicle body.

[0003] These floorings are typically permanently fixed to the interior of the vehicle. For example, the flooring may be held in place by a combination of weatherstripping, clips, and vehicle seats. In another example, Kroher (US Pat. No. 5,629,492) teaches a wood panel floor for transportation vehicles in which individual panels are glued in place with adhesive beads. US Pat. No. 5,629,492 does not teach the integral construction of garnishes.

[0004] Furthermore, removing and / or replacing flooring can be complicated by the need to remove various additional components, such as vehicle seats, which may be bolted or glued in place, as taught in U.S. Pat. Nos. 5,629,999 and 5,729,999. [Prior art documents] [Patent documents]

[Figure 6] 1 illustrates one embodiment of a floor garnish structure according to some embodiments. [Figure 7] 1 illustrates one embodiment of a floor garnish structure according to some embodiments. DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

[0013] There is a need in the art for an improved vehicle floor system. In one aspect, a plurality of brackets position a removable central floor garnish on the vehicle structure. In at least some aspects, a battery is positioned below the vehicle structure, and the central floor garnish is removable to provide access to the battery. According to some aspects, an additional peripheral floor garnish is positioned flush with the central floor garnish. The peripheral floor garnish is removable.

[0014] 1 illustrates an embodiment of a vehicle floor assembly 100 according to some embodiments. According to some embodiments, the vehicle floor assembly 100 includes a center floor garnish 101. The center floor garnish 101 may be a floor covering exposed to the interior of the vehicle, allowing occupants to walk on the center floor garnish 101 and / or place luggage or bags on the center floor garnish 101. The area covered by the center floor garnish 101 may be the passenger compartment area.

[0015] In some examples, the center floor garnish 101 may be made of wood, laminate, or composite material. A hard and durable material is generally selected for the center floor garnish 101 in consideration of passenger comfort. For example, the vehicle may be a public transportation vehicle or a ride-sharing vehicle with a large passenger capacity.

[0016] A plurality of peripheral floor garnishes may complete the vehicle floor. The plurality of peripheral floor garnishes may include side garnishes. The side garnishes include a rear region garnish 102, a front region garnish 103, a left garnish 104, and a right garnish 105. The rear region garnish 102 may be positioned below a rear passenger seat (not shown) in the vehicle's interior. The front region garnish 103 may be positioned below a front passenger seat in the vehicle's interior.

[0017] In some examples, the outer perimeter floor garnish may be made of a plastic material. The outer perimeter floor garnish is not limited to a plastic material and may be made of other materials. For example, the outer perimeter floor garnish may be made of the same or a different material than the central floor garnish 101.

[0018] In one example, the rear and front passenger seats may face each other such that the center floor garnish 101 extends between the front passenger seat area 112 and the rear passenger seat area 113, with the center floor garnish 101 providing flooring for the passenger area of the vehicle. In some embodiments, at least one of the left garnish 104 and the right garnish 105 is positioned in an area adjacent to the door of the vehicle.

[0019] The multiple outer periphery floor garnishes may further include corner area garnishes, which may include a left rear garnish 106, a right rear garnish 107, a left front garnish 108, and a right front garnish 109. The corner area garnishes may fill the areas between the side garnishes.

[0020] According to some embodiments, the upper surface 506 of the central floor garnish 101 (see FIG. 4) is flush with the upper surface 403 of the rear region garnish 102 (see FIG. 4) and the upper surface of the front region garnish 103. The flush joint of the vehicle floor assembly 100 can help passengers easily slide luggage or bags under their seats. In some embodiments, the central floor garnish 101 overlaps a portion of the outer peripheral floor garnish so that there is no gap at the joint between the central floor garnish 101 and the outer peripheral floor garnish that exposes the underlying structure of the vehicle, such as structure 201 in FIG. 2.

[0021] 2 illustrates an embodiment of a center floor garnish 101 positioned on a vehicle structure by a metal bracket, according to some embodiments. The vehicle includes a structure 201, which may be part of the vehicle monocoque, the vehicle floor pan, or a vehicle access panel. The structure 201 may be formed from a metal such as aluminum, steel, or magnesium. The structure 201 is not limited to these materials, and other materials may also be used.

[0022] The central floor garnish 101 may be connected to the structure by one or more brackets. In FIG. 2 , the central floor garnish 101 is arranged by a first bracket 202, a second bracket 203, a third bracket 204, and a fourth bracket 205. Each bracket is connected to the underside of the central floor garnish 101 on the side of the structure 201. Each bracket includes a means for fixing the central floor garnish 101 to the vehicle structure 201.

[0023] The vehicle's central floor garnish 101 and / or structure 201 include one or more positioning structures. The positioning structures can ensure proper alignment of the central floor garnish 101 and the brackets relative to the vehicle's structure 201. In one example, the positioning structures include a first positioning pin 206, a second positioning pin 207, a third positioning pin 208, and a fourth positioning pin 209 that align the central floor garnish 101 and the brackets to the vehicle's structure 201. The positioning pins may have various shapes. For example, the fourth positioning pin 209 may be an oval pin 110 (see FIG. 1 ) that extends from the vehicle's structure 201 to a corresponding slot in the central floor garnish 101. In another example, the third positioning pin 208 may be a circular pin 111 (see FIG. 1 ) that extends from the vehicle's structure 201 to a corresponding hole in the central floor garnish 101.

[0024] FIG. 3 illustrates an embodiment of the central floor garnish 101 positioned on the vehicle structure by a bracket and a locating pin, according to some embodiments. As shown, a first locating pin 206 can ensure proper alignment of the central floor garnish 101 and the first bracket 202 with respect to the vehicle structure 201. The first bracket 202 may be formed of a metal material. According to some aspects, the first bracket 202 is connected to the central floor garnish 101. The connection between the first bracket 202 and the central floor garnish 101 can be achieved by a fastening device 301. The fastening device 301 can include screws, bolts, rivets, adhesive, or a bonded structure. The first bracket 202 can be secured to the vehicle structure 201 by a mechanical fastener 302. The mechanical fastener 302 can include screws or bolts. The first bracket 202 can include a raised periphery 303 that can directly support the central floor garnish 101 and the right garnish 105 (not shown in FIG. 3 ).

[0025] According to some aspects, one or more peripheral garnishes abut against the central floor garnish 101 and cover a portion of at least one bracket that extends beyond the edge of the central floor garnish 101. After the central floor garnish 101 is secured to the structure 201, the left garnish 104 and the right garnish 105 can be installed on the vehicle so that the left garnish 104 and the right garnish 105 extend beyond the edge of the central floor garnish 101 and cover a portion of the bracket that receives the mechanical fastener 302 for securing the central floor garnish 101. According to at least one embodiment, the left garnish 104 and the right garnish 105 are directly supported by a portion of the raised peripheral edge of the bracket that extends beyond the edge of the central floor garnish 101.

[0026] 4 shows an embodiment of a central floor garnish and a peripheral floor garnish according to some embodiments. At least a portion of the central floor garnish 101 and the rear region garnish 102 is disposed on the vehicle structure 201. The upper peripheral edge 401 of the central floor garnish 101 is disposed above the lower peripheral edge 402 of the rear region garnish 102. This forms a half-lap joint between the upper peripheral edge 401 of the central floor garnish 101 and the lower peripheral edge 402 of the rear region garnish 102, preventing a gap from occurring between the central floor garnish 101 and the rear region garnish 102. The central floor garnish 101 and the front region garnish 103 may also be joined by a half-lap joint.

[0027] The rear region garnish 102 includes a generally planar upper surface 403 and an intermediate surface 404 extending downward from the upper surface to the lower peripheral edge 402 of the rear region garnish 102. The intermediate surface 404 may be substantially vertically oriented. The front region garnish 103 may similarly have a generally planar upper surface and a joining surface extending downward to the peripheral edge of the outer peripheral garnish, as shown in Figures 4 and 5.

[0028] Similarly, the left rear garnish 106, the right rear garnish 107, the left front garnish 108, and the right front garnish 109 are arranged in the same manner and can have a substantially planar upper surface and a joining surface that extends downward to the periphery of the outer peripheral garnish, as shown in Figures 4 and 5. In other words, the upper periphery 401 of the central floor garnish 101 is arranged above the periphery of each corner area garnish.

[0029] According to some embodiments, the central floor garnish 101 further includes a horizontal lower surface 405 and an undercut portion 406 between the horizontal lower surface and the second peripheral edge. The undercut portion 406 may be a recess in the horizontal lower surface 405 of the central floor garnish 101 located between the main floor garnish and the upper peripheral edge 401 of the central floor garnish 101. Furthermore, the upper peripheral edge 401 of the central floor garnish 101 may include an interface 407 that directly contacts the lower peripheral edge 402 of the floor garnish. As shown in FIG. 4 , the lower peripheral edge 402 of the floor garnish may extend to the area of the undercut portion 406.

[0030] According to some embodiments, the left garnish 104 and the right garnish 105 are installed behind the central floor garnish 101. The left garnish 104 and the right garnish 105 cover a bracket that secures the central floor garnish 101. Because the left garnish 104 and the right garnish 105 are attached after the central floor garnish 101, the joint between these garnishes may be, for example, a butt joint, a half-lap joint, a tongue-and-grove joint, or the like. FIG. 5 shows an embodiment of the central floor garnish and the peripheral floor garnish according to some embodiments. The upper peripheral edge 401 of the central floor garnish 101 is positioned above the lower peripheral edge 402 of the rear region garnish 102. The upper peripheral edge 401 of the central floor garnish 101 may include a peripheral protrusion 501 having a horizontal top portion 502 and a vertical edge portion 503. The upper peripheral edge 401 of the central floor garnish 101 may include a beveled edge 504 extending from a horizontal top 502. A corner 505 may connect the beveled edge 504 to an upper surface 506 of the central floor garnish 101.

[0031] According to some embodiments, the horizontal top 502 of the peripheral projection 501 may be approximately 0.5 millimeters in length, and the vertical edge 503 of the peripheral projection 501 may be approximately 0.5 millimeters in height. According to one example, the beveled edge 504 has an angle of approximately 10 to 30 degrees, more specifically 15 degrees, from vertical. The corner 505 may be approximately 3 to 8 millimeters, more specifically 5 millimeters.

[0032] 6, the central floor garnish 101 may have a first laminate structure 600. The first laminate structure 600 may include a film 601, a web adhesive layer 602, a first composite sheet 603, a core 607, and a second composite sheet 608.

[0033] According to some embodiments, film 601 may have a decorative layer. For example, film 601 may have a photographic image of wood, metal, or carbon fiber printed on its top surface 613. An abrasive layer (not shown) may be added to top surface 613 of film 601. According to some embodiments, film 601 has a primer 612 on one side facing web adhesive layer 602. Primer 612 may be, for example, a PUR (polyurethane reactive) primer to improve connection to web adhesive layer 602.

[0034] Web adhesive layer 602 may be a polyester hot melt web adhesive. Web adhesive layer 602 bonds adjacent layers of first laminate structure 600. That is, web adhesive layer 602 adheres film 601 to first composite sheet 603 of first laminate structure 600. Web adhesive layer 602 may have a weight of approximately 15 to 100 grams per square meter (GSM), more specifically 70 GSM.

[0035] Referring again to first composite sheet 603, this layer may include first scrim 604, first material layer 605, and slit film 606. In some embodiments, first scrim 604, first material layer 605, and slit film 606 form a composite of polypropylene (PP) and fiberglass (GF). The PP+GF composite provides strength, structural rigidity, and dimensional stability to first laminate structure 600.

[0036] According to some embodiments, first scrim 604 is a reinforcing component that improves the strength and stability of first composite sheet 603. For example, first scrim 604 may be a polyester scrim. First scrim 604 may be, for example, a rectangular woven fabric.

[0037] Examples of first material layer 605 may include a thermoformable composite panel, such as a thermoplastic material including, for example, polypropylene (PP), polyetherimide (PEI), or polyphenylene sulfide (PPS), reinforced with fibers such as GF. In some embodiments, first material layer 605 is a polyamide material. Polyamide materials include polyamide 6 (also known as nylon 6), polyphthalamide (PPA), and the like.

[0038] According to some embodiments, the slit film 606 of the first composite sheet 603 is an adhesive layer, i.e., the slit film 606 is an adhesive that adheres the first composite sheet 603 to the core 607.

[0039] The core 607 of the first laminate structure 600 may be, for example, a paper core. Other materials are also contemplated; for example, the core 607 may be a thermoplastic material. The core 607 may have an internal geometric structure including an array of cells formed between vertical walls. That is, the core 607 may have a honeycomb structure. In other embodiments, the core 607 may be a solid material.

[0040] The second composite sheet 608 may have a similar structure to the first composite sheet 603. For example, the second composite sheet 608 may include a second slit film 609, a second material layer 610, and a second scrim 611. Similar to the first composite sheet 603, the second slit film 609 of the second composite sheet 608 is an adhesive that bonds the second composite sheet 608 to the core 607. Additionally, the second material layer 610 may be, for example, a thermoformable composite panel or a polyamide material.

[0041] According to some embodiments, in the first composite sheet 603 and the second composite sheet 608, the scrim has a weight of about 20 GSM, the material layer has a weight of about 900 GSM, and the slit film has a weight of about 60 GSM.

[0042] 7, the central floor garnish 101 may have a second laminate structure 700. The second laminate structure 700 may include a top film 701, a substrate layer 702, a core 607, and a second composite sheet 608.

[0043] According to some embodiments, the top film 701 of the second laminate structure 700 may be a decorative layer. For example, the top film 701 may have a photographic image of wood, metal, or carbon fiber printed on its top surface 706. An abrasive layer (not shown) may be added to the top surface 706 of the top film 701. According to some embodiments, a primer may be omitted from the bottom surface of the top film 701.

[0044] According to some embodiments, the substrate layer 702 is a double-sided adhesive substrate. For example, the substrate layer 702 may include a material layer 704 between two slit films, including an upper slit film 703 and a lower slit film 705. That is, the substrate layer 702 may be a double-sided adhesive layer. For example, the substrate layer 702 may be a copolyamide (CoPA) layer. Examples of the material layer 704 include polyamide materials such as polyamide 6 (also known as nylon 6) and polyphthalamide (PPA), and thermoplastic materials such as polypropylene (PP), polyetherimide (PEI), or polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) reinforced with fibers such as GF.

[0045] According to some embodiments, the upper slit film 703 and the lower slit film 705 are adhesive layers. Thus, the upper slit film 703 can bond the upper film 701 to the material layer 704, and the lower slit film 705 can bond the material layer 704 to the core 607. The weight of the upper slit film 703 and the lower slit film 705 can each be, for example, about 60 GSM.

[0046] In the second example laminate structure 700, the core 607 may be a paper core. Other materials may be used for the core 607. For example, the core 607 may be a thermoplastic material. The core 607 may have an internal geometric structure including an array of cells formed between vertical walls. For example, the core 607 may have a honeycomb structure.

[0047] 6, the second composite sheet 608 can include a second slit film 609, a second material layer 610, and a second scrim 611. Similar to the first composite sheet 603, the second slit film 609 of the second composite sheet 608 can be an adhesive that adheres the second composite sheet 608 to the core 607. According to some embodiments, the second scrim 611 has a weight of approximately 20 GSM, the second material layer 610 has a weight of approximately 900 GSM, and the second slit film 609 has a weight of approximately 60 GSM.

[0048] According to some aspects, the substrate layer 702 exhibits superior resistance to peeling of the top film 701 from the core 607, for example, compared to the film 601 of the first laminate structure 600 shown in FIG. 6 . Furthermore, the substrate layer 702 exhibits superior resistance to peeling of the top film 701 from the core 607 at the upper periphery 401 of the central floor garnish 101, where the top film 701 is laminated across the vertical corner 505 toward the edge 504. That is, in some exemplary embodiments, the substrate layer 702 has sufficient adhesive strength to prevent peeling of the top film 701 from the core 607 at the portion of the top film 701 at the edge 504 of the central floor garnish 101.
