AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

In hydrogen-fueled internal combustion engines, hydrogen gas accumulates in the crankcase, leading to potential leakage during maintenance, especially when the engine is idling.

Method used

A flow control valve that adjusts the flow rate of blow-by gas introduced into the intake passage from the crankcase, featuring a flow rate adjusting section with a cylindrical valve body and a tapered shape, maximizing the cross-sectional area when the engine load is below idle to reduce hydrogen concentration.

Benefits of technology

Reduces hydrogen concentration in the crankcase during idle, preventing leakage and maintaining stable combustion by optimizing blow-by gas recirculation.

Abstract

To lower hydrogen concentration in a crank case during idling operation.SOLUTION: A PCV valve 200 that adjusts a flow rate of blow-by gas introduced from a crank case of an internal combustion engine using hydrogen as fuel to an intake passage includes: a flow rate adjustment section 218 for causing a flow passage cross-sectional area of a portion through which blow-by gas passes to change due to displacement of a valve element 251; an inflow hole 212 into which the blow-by gas flows; and an outflow hole 222 from which blow-by gas flows out. The flow rate adjustment section 218 includes the columnar valve element 251 and a hole 219 through which the valve element 251 passes. The valve element 251 has a tapered shape in which a diameter is expanded from the inflow hole 212 side toward the outflow hole 222 side.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
