Abstract
A prediction method is provided that can predict the fatigue strength of a thin plate with high accuracy. [Solution] The fatigue strength prediction method includes a measurement step, an acquisition step, a first calculation step, a second calculation step, and a third calculation step. In the measurement step, the fatigue limit of a test piece made of the same material as the metal plate (10) and having its surface ground is measured. In the acquisition step, the surface texture of a region (R) on the surface of the metal plate (10) that includes multiple valleys (11) is measured, and the depth t and radius of curvature ρ of the valleys (11) within the region (R) are acquired. In the first calculation step, the average value T of t / ρ for each valley (11) within the region (R) is calculated. In the second calculation step, a correction term K is calculated using the following formula (1). In the third calculation step, the fatigue limit of the metal plate (10) is calculated based on the correction term K and the fatigue limit of the test piece. K = 1 / (1 + n × T) (1)
