Description

Technical Field

[0001] The present invention relates to a bezel for preventing insertion of coins into a bill insertion slot of a bill processing device and a bill processing device having the bezel.

Background Art

[0002] In recent years, in stores such as convenience stores or supermarkets, the introduction of self-checkout devices in which users register and settle the products they purchase by themselves has been progressing. A general self-checkout device includes a touch display, a POS terminal, a barcode scanner, a cashless payment terminal, a receipt printer, and an automatic change dispenser. The automatic change dispenser includes a bill processing device and a coin processing device that discriminate the authenticity of inserted bills and coins and process the deposits and withdrawals of each denomination, an arithmetic processing unit that calculates the deposits and withdrawals, a display unit that displays information regarding the deposits and withdrawals, a storage unit that stores history information regarding the deposits and withdrawals, and a control unit that controls these components.

[0003] On the front surface of the housing of the automatic change dispenser, there are provided a bill insertion slot for inserting bills, a coin insertion slot for inserting coins, a change payout slot for paying change to the user, and a coin refund slot for discharging coins determined to be unacceptable. In a general automatic change dispenser, a bill placement table and a bill insertion slot are provided on a bezel (face plate) fixed to the housing of the bill processing device, and the bill processing device is arranged inside the automatic change dispenser with the bezel of the bill processing device exposed from the opening of the housing of the automatic change dispenser.

[0004] In self-checkout systems where users register and pay for their purchases themselves, a problem frequently occurred where inexperienced users unconsciously or mistakenly inserted coins into the banknote slot. When coins were inserted into the banknote slot, they were forced into the banknote transport passage of the banknote processing system, causing damage to the transport rollers or belt. In addition, in the banknote processing system of a self-checkout system, the store manager replenishes the banknote slot with bundles of banknotes for change, and the transport device of the banknote processing system separates and transports the bundles of banknotes one by one to the back of the transport passage. Therefore, if a banknote slot with a thin hole that only allows the passage of banknotes is provided on the bezel of the banknote processing system, the manager has to repeatedly insert small amounts of banknotes into the thin slot, which prevents the manager from replenishing the banknote processing system with large bundles of banknotes for change, resulting in a defect that reduces the efficiency of banknote replenishment work.

[0005] Patent Document 1 below discloses a currency processing device comprising a replenishment banknote slot for receiving replenishment banknotes inserted by an attendant, and a banknote opening limiting member that forms an openable and closable replenishment banknote slot. The banknote opening limiting member, which covers a portion of the replenishment banknote slot when closed, forms a deposit banknote slot with a smaller opening than the replenishment banknote slot, thereby accepting deposit banknotes inserted by customers. The deposit banknote slot with a smaller opening prevents customers from inserting coins incorrectly, while the replenishment banknote slot with a larger opening improves the efficiency of the attendant's banknote replenishment work.

[0006] Because coins are more rigid and thicker than banknotes, Patent Document 2 discloses a banknote processing machine that prevents customers from mistakenly inserting coins into the banknote insertion slot of the banknote processing machine by providing a bent portion in the banknote transport path that the coins come into contact with. Patent Document 3 discloses a structure for a banknote insertion / return slot that prevents the entry of coins inserted by a customer by using a swinging guide fixed by a stopper and an inclined surface formed toward the inside of the machine. Patent Document 4 discloses a currency processing device equipped with an opening regulating member that changes the opening dimension of the deposit slot in the direction of the thickness of the inserted banknotes between an opening dimension for inserting one banknote and an opening dimension for inserting multiple banknotes at once. [0007] [Patent Document 1] Patent No. 4813064 [Patent Document 2] Patent No. 5865515 [Patent Document 3] Japanese Patent Application Publication No. 63-22436 [Patent Document 4] International Publication No. 2008 / 139584 [Overview of the project] [Problems that the invention aims to solve]

[0008] In coin misinsertion prevention means such as the banknote opening limiting member described in Patent Document 1, the bent portion of the banknote transport path described in Patent Document 2, the swinging guide described in Patent Document 3, and the opening restricting member described in Patent Document 4, when an administrator replenishes a large number of banknote bundles to the banknote processing device at once during maintenance, the friction caused by the coin misinsertion prevention means coming into contact with the banknote bundles prevents the banknote bundles from being smoothly separated and transported one by one to the back of the transport path.

[0009] Therefore, the present invention aims to provide a bezel and a banknote processing device having a bezel that prevent coins from being inserted into the banknote slot when a user inserts banknotes into the banknote processing device, and that allow a large amount of banknotes to be smoothly filled into the banknote processing device at once when an administrator replenishes the banknote processing device with a stack of banknotes. [Means for solving the problem]

[0010] The bezel (30) of the present invention comprises a frame (35) fixed to the housing (4) of a banknote processing device (1), a banknote holder (31) protruding forward from the frame (35) and forming a banknote slot (36), a pair of side walls (39) spaced apart from each other and protruding forward from the frame (35) on both side edges of the banknote holder (31), a pivot shaft (34) attached to the pair of side walls (39) across the banknote holder (31), a lid (50) rotatably attached to the pivot shaft (34) between a lower position and an upper position, a rotating shaft (51) attached to the lid (50) parallel to the pivot shaft (34), and rolling rollers (52) rotatably attached to the rotating shaft (51). The banknote processing device (1) of the present invention comprises a housing (4) to which the bezel (30) is integrally or detachably attached.

[0011] When the lid (50) of the bezel (30), which is rotatably mounted on the pivot axis (34) between a lower position and an upper position, is positioned in the lower position, a thin hole (32) is formed between the banknote holder (31) and the lid (50) that allows only thin banknotes (101) to pass through, while the thin hole (32) prevents the passage of thick coins (103). Thick coins (103) supplied to the banknote holder (31) come into contact with the front wall (53) of the lid (50), preventing them from entering the banknote opening (2) of the banknote processing device (1). Even when rotated to the upper position, the lid (50) is always biased in the lower position by its own weight or the elasticity of the elastic piece (54).

[0012] When loading a stack of banknotes (102) placed on the banknote holder (31) of the bezel (30) into the banknote processing device (1), the operator rotates and holds the lid (50) in the upper position around the pivot axis (34), so that the thin hole (32) expands into a gap (37) that allows the stack of banknotes (102) to pass through, and the stack of banknotes (102) can be placed in the banknote slot (36) and the banknote inlet (2). After the stack of banknotes (102) is placed on the banknote holder (31), when the lid (50) is released from the upper position, the lid (50) is automatically biased downward by its own weight or the elasticity of the elastic piece, and the rolling roller (52) of the lid (50) is placed on the stack of banknotes (102).

[0013] When an entrance sensor (9) provided near the banknote entrance (2) detects a banknote bundle (102) at the banknote entrance (2), the conveyance device (5) is driven by a banknote detection signal generated by the entrance sensor (9). As a result, the intake roller (8) attached to the upper wall (7a) of the conveyance path (7) rotates, and thus the banknotes below the top banknote of the banknote bundle (102) contacted by the intake roller (8) are sequentially conveyed into the banknote processing device (1). The rolling roller (52) that rotationally contacts the conveyed banknote (101) reduces the friction and damage of the banknote (101) against the lid (50), and at the same time reduces the load on the intake roller (8) due to the sliding contact between the lid (50) and the banknote (101), facilitating the smooth conveyance of the banknote (101) into the banknote processing device (1).

Embodiments for Carrying Out the Invention

[0015] The bezel (30) of the present invention in the embodiment shown in FIG. 1 is detachably attached to the front surface of the housing (4) of a banknote processing device (1) such as a banknote discriminator, a banknote storage device, or a banknote dispensing device. The bezel (30) includes a frame body (35) fixed to the housing (4) of the banknote processing device (1), a banknote placement table (31) that protrudes forward from the frame body (35) to form a banknote insertion slot (36), a pair of side walls (39) that are spaced apart from each other at both side edges of the banknote placement table (31) and protrude forward from the frame body (35), a swing shaft (34) that is attached to the pair of side walls (39) across the banknote placement table (31), and a lid (50) that is rotatably attached to the swing shaft (34) between a lower position (FIG. 1) and an upper position (FIG. 10). When attaching the bezel (30) to the housing (4), a screw (not shown) is inserted into a screw hole (35a) (FIG. 6) formed in the frame body (35) of the bezel (30), and then the screw is screwed into a corresponding screw hole (not shown) of the housing (4) to attach the bezel (30) to the housing (4). The bezel (30) may be attached to the housing (4) by other known fixing means other than screws.

[0016] The banknote processing device (1) includes a banknote inlet (2) that communicates with the banknote insertion slot (36) of the bezel (30), a conveying device (5) that conveys a banknote (101) inserted into the banknote inlet (2) along a conveying path (7), a discrimination sensor (15) that is provided adjacent to the conveying path (7) and detects optical or magnetic characteristics of the banknote (101) conveyed by the conveying device (5) to generate a detection signal, a storage device (not shown) that stores the banknote (101), and a control device (not shown) that receives the detection signal of the discrimination sensor (15) to determine the authenticity of the banknote (101) and controls the conveying mechanism of the conveying device (5) and the storage mechanism of the storage device. The description of the discrimination sensor (15), the storage device, and the control device having a known structure and producing known effects is omitted. The banknote placement table (31) that supports the banknote (101) disposed at the banknote insertion slot (36) is formed smoothly flush with the banknote inlet (2) of the banknote processing device (1).

[0017] The lid (50) of the bezel (30) shown in Figures 2 to 4 comprises an outer casing (59) having a front wall (53), openings (58) formed at both ends of the outer casing (59) facing a pair of side walls (39) of the bezel (30), a rotating shaft (51) mounted to the lid (50) parallel to the pivot shaft (34), a pair of edges (55) supporting the rotating shaft (51) within the openings (58) of the outer casing (59), retaining screws (57) for the rotating shaft (51) attached to the pair of edges (55), rolling rollers (52) rotatably mounted on the rotating shaft (51), a pair of bearings (56) pivotally mounted on the pivot shaft (34) supported by a pair of side walls (39) of the bezel (30), and an elastic piece (54) attached to the pivot shaft (34) that biases the lid (50) to a downward position. The front wall (53) of the outer casing (59) prevents thick coins (103) from entering the banknote slot (2) of the banknote processing device (1). Multiple partitions (60) are formed integrally with the outer casing (59) of the lid (50), and multiple cylindrical rolling rollers (52) are mounted on the rotating shaft (51) in parallel to each other along the rotating shaft (51) via the multiple partitions (60).

[0018] The conveying device (5) shown in Figures 1 and 5 comprises a conveying mechanism including a conveying motor (6), a take-up roller (8) attached to the upper wall (7a) of the banknote (101) conveying passage (7) and rotated by the conveying motor (6), a pressing device (14) that moves the take-up roller (8) in the vertical direction, and a pair of peeling rollers (11, 12) positioned behind the take-up roller (8) and rotated by the conveying motor (6). A pair of peeling rollers (11, 12) are rotated simultaneously with the intake roller (8) by the transport motor (6), transporting the banknotes (101) transported by the intake roller (8) further into the banknote processing device (1). However, the forward-rotating roller (11), provided on the upper wall (7a) of the transport passage (7), rotates in the forward direction of banknote insertion, while the reverse-rotating roller (12), provided on the lower wall (7b) of the transport passage (7), rotates in the opposite direction to the forward-rotating roller (11) towards the banknote entrance (2). This ensures that multiple banknotes (101) adhering to the surface are reliably peeled and separated, transporting the banknotes (101) one by one further into the transport passage (7) and preventing the simultaneous transport of multiple adhering banknotes (101). The combination of the intake roller (8) and the pair of peeling rollers (11, 12) completely prevents the simultaneous transport of multiple banknotes (101). Instead of the reverse roller (12) of the pair of peeling rollers (11, 12), a temporary pause roller (12) that temporarily stops rotation may be provided on the lower wall (7b) of the transport passage (7). By temporarily stopping the rotation of the temporary pause roller (12) relative to the forward-rotating roller (11) that rotates in the direction of banknote insertion, the forward-rotating roller (11) and the temporary pause roller (12) can peel and separate multiple banknotes (101) that are in close contact with each other, and transport the banknotes (101) one by one to the back of the transport passage (7).

[0019] The pressing device (14) includes a gear (16) shown in Figure 5 that is rotationally driven by a transport motor (6), a movable frame (17) that rotatably supports the intake roller (8) and is pivotably mounted at the end opposite to the end supporting the intake roller (8), a rotational reciprocating motion converter (not shown) that moves the end of the movable frame (17) slightly vertically downward together with the intake roller (8) as the gear (16) rotates, and a spring (18) that generates elasticity to return the intake roller (8) and the end of the movable frame (17), which are moved slightly vertically downward by the rotational reciprocating motion converter, to their initial positions. The rotational reciprocating motion converter uses a known crank device, link device, or cam device that converts the rotational motion of the gear (16) into reciprocating motion.

[0020] The intake roller (8), which is rotated by the transport motor (6), is attached to the end of the movable frame (17). Therefore, when the movable frame (17) oscillates due to the gear (16) and the rotational reciprocating motion converter, the intake roller (8) moves slightly vertically downward at the same time as the rotation. As a result, the intake roller (8) presses the banknotes (101) inserted into the banknote opening (2) toward the recess (13) (for example, 0.5 mm to 2.0 mm deep) formed in the lower wall (7b) of the transport passage (7), and transports them along the transport passage (7) into the housing (4) of the banknote processing device (1). The pressing force of the intake roller (8) reliably prevents the simultaneous transport of duplicate banknotes (101) from multiple banknote bundles (102), and transports the banknotes (101) one by one from the top of the banknote bundle (102).

[0021] The lid (50) swings relative to the banknote holder (31) between the lower position shown in Figures 6 to 8 and the upper position shown in Figures 9 and 10, with a swing angle range of, for example, 30 to 90 degrees. The lid (50), which rotates around the pivot axis (34), is constantly biased to the lower position by the elasticity of an elastic piece (54) such as a coil spring, and when the lid (50) is in the lower position, a thin hole (32) is formed between the banknote holder (31) and the lid (50) that allows only banknotes (101) to pass through. Therefore, coins (103) supplied to the banknote holder (31) come into contact with the front wall (53) of the lid (50) due to its thickness, preventing them from entering the banknote opening (2) of the banknote processing device (1). The use of the elastic piece (54) may be omitted, and the lid (50) may be constantly biased to the lower position by its own weight.

[0022] A thin hole (32) less than 1.5 mm in height is formed between the lid (50), which is held in a lower position, and the banknote holder (31). Therefore, thin coins from major countries, including Japanese 1-yen coins, 1-cent euro coins, and 1-cent US dollar coins with thicknesses of 1.5 mm, 1.67 mm, and 1.55 mm respectively, are all prevented from entering the banknote slot (2) by the lid (50) of the bezel (30). If the height of the thin hole (32) formed between the banknote holder (31) and the lid (50) is set to 1.4 mm, the user can insert about 2 to 3 banknotes (101) into the banknote slot (2) of the banknote processing device (1). Considering the coin thickness range of 1.25 mm to 2.8 mm in various countries around the world, a thin hole (32) less than 1.25 mm in height may be formed between the banknote holder (31) and the lid (50). By forming a thin hole (32) of 1.24 mm between the banknote holder (31) and the lid (50), the user can insert one or two banknotes (101) into the banknote slot (2) of the banknote processing device (1).

[0023] The front wall (53) of the bezel (30) lid (50) is inclined with respect to the banknote holder (31) when the lid (50) is held in the lower position, and is positioned above the banknote holder (31) at a distance equal to the height of the thin hole (32). As a result, banknotes (101) placed on the banknote holder (31) and inserted into the banknote slot (36) are guided to the banknote entrance (2) by the front wall (53) shown in Figure 7, which is inclined toward the banknote slot (36). Thick coins (103) supplied to the banknote holder (31) come into contact with the front wall (53) shown in Figure 8, preventing them from entering the banknote slot (36).

[0024] During maintenance, the administrator powers on the banknote processing device (1) and fills the banknote processing device (1) with a stack of banknotes (102) from the banknote input slot (36). The administrator grasps the lid (50) of the bezel (30) and rotates the lid (50) around the pivot axis (34) to the upper position shown in Figures 9 and 10, thereby enlarging the thin hole (32) to a gap (37) that allows the stack of banknotes (102) to pass through. When the lid (50) is rotated and held in the upper position, the banknote inlet (2) of the banknote processing device (1) is completely open to the front wall (53) of the lid (50), and the rolling roller (52) is 5 mm to 10 mm away from the banknote tray (31). At that point, the rolling roller (52) attached to the rotating shaft (51) is positioned below the front wall (53) of the lid (50). Subsequently, the administrator places a stack of thick banknotes (102) in the gap (37) between the enlarged banknote slot (36) and the banknote inlet (2) of the banknote processing device (1). For example, by holding the rolling roller (52) at a height 6.5 mm away from the banknote holder (31), approximately 30 banknotes (101) can be inserted into the banknote inlet (2) of the banknote processing device (1).

[0025] Next, when the administrator releases the lid (50) from their grip and removes the upward holding force from the lid (50), the elasticity of the elastic piece (54) automatically biases the lid (50) from the upward position to the downward position, and the rolling roller (52) of the lid (50) is mounted on the stack of banknotes (102) shown in Figure 11. Subsequently, an inlet sensor (9) provided in the transport passage (7) between the intake roller (8) and the pair of peeling rollers (11, 12) optically detects the leading edge of the stack of banknotes (102) and generates a detection signal, which drives the transport device (5). Therefore, as the intake roller (8) positioned on the upper wall (7a) of the transport passage (7) rotates, the pressing device (14) is activated, and the stack of banknotes (102) is pressed downward by the pressing device (14) together with the intake roller (8), and the stack of banknotes (102) is transported one by one into the banknote processing device (1) from the top banknotes (101) by the rotation of the intake roller (8).

[0026] The banknotes at the bottom of the banknote bundle (102) pressed by the pressing device (14) are held in place by being pressed against the recess (13) in the lower wall (7b) of the transport passage (7), so only the upper banknotes (101) are moved to the back of the transport passage (7) by the intake roller (8). Each time a banknote (101) of the banknote bundle (102) is transported to the peeling rollers (11,12) by the intake roller (8), the height of the banknote bundle (102) decreases. In accordance with the decrease in the height of the banknote bundle (102), the pressing device (14) moves the intake roller (8) downward to press the banknote bundle (102) against the recess (13) in the lower wall (7b). The pressing device (14), which has pressed the banknote bundle (102) downward to the recess (13), returns to its initial position due to the elasticity of the spring (18). The rolling rollers (52) that rotate as the banknotes (101) move reduce the frictional force between the banknotes (101) and the lid (50), as well as damage to the banknotes (101), thereby smoothly transporting the banknotes (101) into the banknote processing device (1).

[0027] In the banknote processing device (1) of this embodiment, the take-in roller (8), which is attached to the upper wall (7a) of the banknote (101) transport passage (7), transports the banknotes (101) one by one into the transport passage (7), starting from the top banknote (101) that makes up the banknote bundle (102). The banknotes (101) are pressed by the weight of the lid (50) or the elasticity of the elastic piece (54), but the rolling roller (52), which is attached to the lower end of the lid (50), reduces friction between the lid (50) and the banknotes (101), thereby reducing the load, malfunction, deterioration, or damage to the take-in roller (8) that pulls the banknotes (101). The rolling rollers (52), which reduce friction with the banknotes (101) through a smooth surface and free rotation, can be made of either resin or metal, relative to the resin bezel (30) and lid (50) and the metal oscillating shaft (34), rotating shaft (51), and locking shaft (38).

[0028] For example, when repeatedly filling a stack of banknotes (102) into the banknote processing device (1), a locking shaft (38) (Figure 12) is detachably attached to perforations (39a) formed in a pair of side walls (39) of the bezel (30). After rotating the lid (50) to the upper position, when the locking shaft (38) is attached to the perforations (39a) of the side walls (39), the locking shaft (38) continuously holds the lid (50) in an upper position at the height shown in Figure 11. As a result, the banknote inlet (2) of the banknote processing device (1) remains open relative to the front wall (53) of the lid (50), and the rolling roller (52) is positioned 2.5 mm to 5 mm away from the banknote holder (31) and below the front wall (53) of the lid (50). When the locking shaft (38) holds the lid (50) in the position above the height shown in Figures 11 and 12, the administrator can insert a bundle of banknotes (102) into the banknote slot (36) of the bezel (30) without having to grasp the lid (50).

[0029] The embodiments of the present invention are modifiable. Although an example is shown in which a bezel (30) is detachably attached to the front of the housing (4) of the banknote processing device (1), the bezel (30) may be fixed integrally to the housing (4) of the banknote processing device (1). A single cylindrical rolling roller (52) may be mounted on the rotating shaft (51) of the lid (50) without a partition wall (60). The intake roller (8), pressing device (14), peeling rollers (11, 12) and movable frame (17) may be driven in conjunction or individually by multiple transport motors (6) or individual motors. A transport belt driven by the transport motors (6) may be provided on the transport device (5). The bezel (30) and banknote processing device (1) of the present invention are not limited to self-checkout devices, but can be applied to other paper handling devices that are equipped with a banknote processing device (1). [Industrial applicability]

[0030] The bezel and banknote processing device of the present invention can be used in various technical fields that utilize banknotes, such as game machines, ATMs, ticket vending machines, payment machines, or vending machines. [Explanation of symbols]
