To provide a side feeder and the like that efficiently use a surface treatment agent and can knead a surface-treated carbon fiber into resin.SOLUTION: A side feeder 101 feeds a surface-treated carbon fiber into a kneading extruder 41. The side feeder 101 comprises: a loading port 21 through which a carbon fiber is loaded; a transfer cylinder 22 for transferring the carbon fiber loaded through the loading port 21; a screw which extrudes the carbon fiber in the transfer cylinder 22; a connection part 35 which connects the transfer cylinder 22 and the kneading extruder 41, and transfers the carbon fiber extruded into a kneading cylinder 61 of the kneading extruder 41 by the screw; and an adding part 34 for adding a surface treatment agent to the carbon fiber in the transfer cylinder 22, between the loading port 21 and the connection part 35.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
