Abstract
The present invention relates to a method for preparing collagen membranes characterized in that it comprises the steps of: a) preparing a Matryoshka system comprising a saturated potassium carbonate (K2CO3) solution, maintained at a temperature between 37°C and 43°C and a constant relative humidity between 35% and 45% with a variation of less than 5%, under continuous stirring for at least 7 days; b) preparing a mixture comprising a collagen solution, fetal bovine serum, at least one zwitterionic buffer and at least one antibiotic, until a homogeneous mixture is obtained; c) dry the mixture at constant temperature and stirring for at least 10 days, until a membrane is formed with a thickness between 3 µm and 7 µm, then wash the formed membranes to remove the phenolsulfonphthalein present in the medium, in order to achieve an optical transparency greater than 95% transmittance, and complete an incubation period of at least 37 days;(yd) rehydrate the membrane with double-distilled water for at least 20 minutes, obtaining an ultrathin, transparent and malleable membrane, suitable for intracorneal ophthalmic applications.
