A novel bitter gourd tea for type-ii diabetic patients

Abstract

The present invention relates to a novel herbal tea formulation specifically designed for the management of Type-II diabetes. The composition comprises a synergistic blend of Momordica charantia (bitter gourd), Camellia sinensis (green tea), and Ceylon zeylanicum (cinnamon), with each component contributing bioactive compounds known for their antidiabetic, antioxidant, and hypolipidemic effects. The formulation is prepared by drying and powdering the ingredients, which are then blended in specific ratios and packed into sachets for convenient use as a tea infusion. Pharmacological evaluation in alloxan-induced diabetic rabbits demonstrated significant reductions in blood glucose, total cholesterol, and triglyceride levels, while antioxidant assays revealed high free radical scavenging activity. The product is safe, palatable, easy to prepare, and offers a natural, cost-effective alternative to synthetic antidiabetic medications. This innovative tea formulation thus provides a functional nutraceutical approach for improving glycemic control and overall metabolic health in diabetic individuals.
