Abstract
A herbal oil composition for topical application is disclosed, comprising an oil fraction derived from aerial parts of Persicaria glabra, wherein the composition includes combustion-derived phytochemical constituents obtained from ash formed by thermal processing of the plant material. The composition comprises a lipid medium in an amount of 60-80% by weight and plant-derived constituents in an amount of 20-40% by weight. The composition further comprises phenolic compounds present at a concentration of at least 5 mg gallic acid equivalents per gram (mg GAE / g). The invention further relates to a method for preparing the composition, comprising immersing dried aerial parts of Persicaria glabra in a lipid medium at a weight ratio of 1:1.5 to 1:3, heating at 60-80°C, followed by combustion to produce ash, and recovering an oil fraction from the ash. The resulting composition comprises thermally transformed plant-derived constituents suitable for topical application for muscular pain relief.
