Abstract

The invention relates to a method for characterizing, in real time, the quality of parts made of composite materials with metal matrix and dispersed phase of particles or fibers by laser melt deposition technique §(LMD)§. According to the invention, the process consists in using a fast camera, provided with a neutral density image filter and a coloured filter with a lambda ranging between 500 nm and 1100 nm, which has the role of recording the dynamic evolution of the liquid phase expansion generated by the laser spot focused on the surface of the substrate wherein the elements forming the composite material are injected, in order to produce metal parts, and the dimensional values of the liquid phase and data on the intensity level thereof are extracted from the obtained images in order to indicate, in real time, the areas of the laser-processed part which show defects or agglomerations of compositional elements and also in using a thermal camera wherefrom thermograms are obtained, based on which it is verified whether the temperature of the liquid phase exceeds the upper threshold characteristic to the optimal deposition of the composite material, over which it is possible that defects may occur in the volume of the processed part.
