Abstract

The invention is a method of transmitting data to an Internet of Things receiver (120). A transmitter (110) generates an On-Off Keying (OOK) signal representing an ON and OFF chip array, generates a phase vector, and applies the phase vector to the ON chips to create a phase-encoded OOK signal. The phase-encoded OOK signal is transmitted to the receiver (120) over a wireless channel (130). The receiver (120) obtains a detected OOK sequence by detecting an OOK sequence through energy sensing (123) across the chip ranges. The transmitter (110) obtains information indicating the detected OOK sequence and stores a relationship between the phase vector and the detected OOK sequence in a codebook (113). When a binary message is received, the transmitter (110) retrieves a phase vector associated with the binary message from the codebook (113) and transmits the corresponding phase-encoded OOK signal.
