Undergarment for protecting outer garments from armpit perspiration

Abstract

A wearable undergarment for reducing armpit perspiration reaching an outer garment, the wearable undergarment having: a pair of arm sections, each arm section comprising: a sleeve portion (which may be a short, ¾ or long sleeve), and a swooped side portion connected to the sleeve portion. The sleeve and swooped side portions are dimensioned to meet together underneath a person's armpit and absorb perspiration. The wearable undergarment is made of a lightweight moisture absorbing fabric. Also included is a yoke portion connecting the pair of arm sections together. The yoke portion is slipped over the user's head and includes a front neck portion, and a back neck portion. The wearable undergarment preferably does not cover a person's front or back, but instead only covers the user's armpits and the sides of the user just below the armpits where armpit perspiration is present.

TECHNICAL FIELD

[0002] Armpit perspiration can be damaging to dresses, blouses, shirts, tops and sweaters over time. This is because such perspiration, especially when excessive, requires that the dresses, blouses, shirts, tops or sweaters be cleaned or washed more frequently. In addition, in the case of hand washed clothing, the washing will often be more intensive when excess perspiration is present. Excessive or intense washing can damage the fabric and cause the garment to wear out faster.SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

[0003] The present invention is an undergarment that prevents armpit perspiration from reaching outer garments such as dresses, shirts, blouses, tops and sweaters. As such, it protects these outer garments, and increases their lifespan since they do not need to be washed or cleaned as frequently (or with the same intensity).

[0004] In one preferred embodiment, the present invention provides a wearable undergarment for reducing armpit perspiration reaching an outer garment, wherein the wearable undergarment comprises:

[0011] In preferred embodiments, the wearable undergarment is made of a lightweight moisture absorbing fabric and the sleeve and swooped side portions together absorb armpit perspiration, thereby preventing (or minimizing) such perspiration from reaching the armpit sections of an outer garment (such as a dress, blouse, shirt, top or sweater).

[0012] In preferred embodiments, the wearable undergarment does not cover a person's front or back. Rather, these sections of the person's body are only covered by their normal outer garments. The swooped side portions are dimensioned to cover the sides of a person's upper torso but not cover the front or back of the person's upper torso. As a result, the present undergarment is not heavy and it does not cause the user to overheat when it is worn under other garments. This further reduces the amount the person would perspire.

[0013] In various preferred aspects, the sleeves may be short sleeved, three quarter length, or extend below an elbow. In various preferred aspects, the swooped side portions are dimensioned to extend down just below a person's armpit, or farther down, for example to extend approximately halfway down to a person's waist, or fully down to a person's waist.

[0014] Although the yoke portion preferably just wraps around the front and back of the user's neck (and is therefore fully above the wearer's armpits), it is to be understood that the present system also encompasses front and back neck portions that may extend downwardly to the height of a person's armpits, or even below the height of a person's armpits.

[0015] In optional embodiments, the present undergarment further comprises a bottom connector dimensioned for holding bottom ends of the swooped side portions of the arm sections against the sides of a person's torso. Most preferably, this bottom connector is an elastic band dimensioned to wrap around a person's mid-torso or lower torso. It operates to hold the bottom of the swooped side portions down against the sides of the person's torso. In other embodiments, the bottom connector can be a bottom wraparound portion of fabric with an opening having clasps, buttons, ties, Velcro®, or other manner of fastener on the front or back of the undergarment.BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

[0022] The present invention provides a wearable undergarment for reducing armpit perspiration reaching an outer garment. The present undergarment is easy and comfortable to put on. It is also lightweight and does not cause the user to overheat. Being small (i.e.: covering only a small portion of the user's torso), it does not interfere with the user's outer garments (e.g.: dresses, blouses, shirts, tops or sweaters). It covers little of the user's body, and thus reduces heat and perspiration.

[0023] The present undergarment preferably has a yoke portion having a front and back band that that slips over the user's head. It also includes short snug fitting arm sleeves that extend from the yoke.

[0031] In preferred aspects, the sleeve and swooped side portions 22 and 24 are dimensioned to meet together right underneath a person's armpit. As understood herein, the sleeve and swooped side portions 22 and 24 may be separate pieces of fabric that are sewn together, or they may be regions or areas of a continuous piece of material, all keeping within the scope of the present invention.

[0032] As can be seen in FIGS. 1 and 2, wearable undergarment 10 preferably does not cover a person's front or back to any significant degree.

[0033] Preferably, wearable undergarment 10 is made of a lightweight moisture absorbing fabric which may be, but is not limited to, cotton, modal and jersey knit. It is to be understood that the present invention covers both natural and synthetic fibers.

[0034] FIGS. 1 and 2 illustrate an embodiment where the sleeve portions 22 are short sleeved. It is to be understood, however, that sleeve portions 22 may be three quarter length to the elbow sleeves, or may even extend down below the elbow, for example extending fully down to the user's wrists.

[0035] As seen in FIGS. 1 and 2, the swooped side portions 24 are preferably dimensioned to cover the sides of a person's upper torso but not cover the front or back of the person's upper torso. It is to be understood, however, that swooped side portions 24 may extend down below a person's armpit, and may optionally extend halfway down to a person's waist, or even fully down to a person's waist, all keeping within the scope of the present invention.

[0036] As also seen in FIGS. 1 and 2, the front neck portion 32 of the yoke and the back next portion 34 of the yoke may be narrow bands of material (which are positioned fully above the height of the person's armpits as shown). It is to be understood, however, that neck portions 32 and 34 may extend down to the height of a person's armpits, or even below the height of a person's armpits, all keeping within the scope of the present invention. In addition, the present system covers a wide variety of neck shapes including, but not limited to, a crew neck, a u-neck, a v-neck, a boat neck, and a collared neck. The advantage of these different neck designs is that they can be hidden (or be visible) as the wearer chooses.

[0037] FIG. 3 shows a view of the present system sitting on a planar surface such as a table. As can be seen, the present undergarment is small, lightweight and easily storable.

[0038] FIG. 4 illustrates an alternate embodiment of the present system further comprising a bottom connector 40 dimensioned for the holding bottom ends of the swooped side portions 24 of the arm sections 20 against the sides of a person's torso. As can be seen, bottom connector 40 may simple be an elastic band dimensioned to wrap around a person's mid-torso or lower torso. Bottom connector 40 may instead have a buckle, snap or hook connection on its front or back such that the wearer can secure it into position (and or loosen or loosen the connection) when putting it on.

[0039] Lastly, FIGS. 5 and 6 are elevation views of optional embodiments of the present invention having a bottom connector with a front or real opening. In the embodiment of FIG. 5, front clasps 50 (which may optionally be clasps, buttons, ties, Velcro®, or other manner of fastener) on bottom connector 40 may be used to permit a wearer to securely fasten the undergarment 10 into position on their torso. Similarly, in the embodiment of FIG. 6, rear clasps 52 (which may optionally be clasps, buttons, ties, Velcro®, or other manner of fastener) on bottom connector 40 may be used to permit a wearer to securely fasten the undergarment 10 into position on their torso.

Claims

1. A wearable undergarment for reducing armpit perspiration reaching an outer garment, the wearable undergarment comprising:a pair of arm sections, each arm section comprising:a sleeve portion, anda swooped side portion connected to the sleeve portion, wherein the sleeve and swooped side portions are dimensioned to meet together underneath a person's armpit;a yoke portion connecting the pair of arm sections together, the yoke portion comprising:a front neck portion, anda back neck portion.

2. The wearable undergarment of claim 1, wherein the wearable undergarment does not cover a person's front or back.

3. The wearable undergarment of claim 1, wherein the wearable undergarment is made of a lightweight moisture absorbing fabric.

4. The wearable undergarment of claim 3, wherein the lightweight moisture absorbing fabric is selected from the group consisting of cotton, modal, and jersey knit materials.

5. The wearable undergarment of claim 1, wherein the sleeve portions are short sleeved.

6. The wearable undergarment of claim 1, wherein the sleeve portions are three quarter length to the elbow sleeves.

7. The wearable undergarment of claim 1, wherein the sleeve portions extend below an elbow.

8. The wearable undergarment of claim 1, wherein the swooped side portions are dimensioned to cover the sides of a person's upper torso but not cover the front or back of the person's upper torso.

9. The wearable undergarment of claim 1, wherein the side portions are dimensioned to extend down below a person's armpit.

10. The wearable undergarment of claim 1, wherein the swooped side portions are dimensioned to extend approximately halfway down to a person's waist.

11. The wearable undergarment of claim 1, wherein the swooped side portions are dimensioned to extend fully down to a person's waist.

12. The wearable undergarment of claim 1, wherein the front neck portion of the yoke is narrow band of material positioned fully above a person's armpits.

13. The wearable undergarment of claim 1, wherein the front neck portion of the yoke extends down to the height of a person's armpits.

14. The wearable undergarment of claim 1, wherein the front neck portion of the yoke extends down below the height of a person's armpits.

15. The wearable undergarment of claim 1, wherein the back neck portion of the yoke is narrow band of material positioned fully above a person's armpits.

16. The wearable undergarment of claim 1, wherein the back neck portion of the yoke extends down to the height of a person's armpits.

17. The wearable undergarment of claim 1, wherein the back neck portion of the yoke extends down below the height of a person's armpits.

18. The wearable undergarment of claim 1, further comprising:a bottom connector dimensioned for holding bottom ends of the swooped side portions of the arm sections against the sides of a person's torso.

19. The wearable undergarment of claim 17, wherein the bottom connector is an elastic band dimensioned to wrap around a person's mid-torso or lower torso.

20. The wearable undergarment of claim 17, wherein the bottom connector is a fabric band dimensioned to wrap around a wearer, the fabric band having front or rear fasteners thereon.
