The mass and thickness of the washers may vary to adjust difficulty levels or accommodate different age groups.
[0035] In one embodiment, the game is comprised of a set of gameplay rules configured to standardize competitive play. Players may alternate tossing at least one (but preferably three) washers 120 each per round toward an opposing base 102. All washers 120 must be (preferably but not limited to) tossed underhanded from behind the front edge of the base 102. A complete round comprises the tossing of all of the designated amount of washers 120 by one player before switching sides or turns.
[0036] A washer 120 that lands within the target aperture 104 scores a first amount of points, such as, but not limited to, three points. A washer 120 that lands within the boundaries of the top surface 103 but outside the target aperture 104 scores a second amount of points, such as, but not limited to, one point. A washer 120 that lands outside the base 102 or bounces into the aperture 104 scores zero points.
[0037] Only one team may score per round. If both teams achieve points during a round, the lower point total is subtracted from the higher. For example, if a first player scores one washer 120 in the target aperture 104 (three points) and one on the top surface 103 (one point), and Player B scores one washer 120 in the aperture 104 (three points), then Player A receives a net of one point for that round.
[0038] The game may be played to a target score such as but not limited to 21 points. In one embodiment, a player or team must land exactly on 21 points to win and exceeding 21 may trigger a score reset to a predefined lower score such as but not limited to 15 points or the prior round's score. An alternate mode of gameplay may include a best-of-three rounds format, each played to 21 points.
[0039] Optional rules may include a Skunk Rule where a team that achieves a lead of 11-0 automatically wins. Some configurations may allow washers 120 that bounce into the aperture 104 to be counted for points, while others exclude such entries. In another variation, a player may receive bonus points if all three washers 120 land in the target aperture 104 during a single round.
[0040] In an additional optional embodiment, the game may incorporate a golf-themed par-based scoring system, wherein each base 102 may be designated as a “hole” with an assigned par value, such as but not limited to a par 3. Players may attempt to meet or beat the par using a set number of washer tosses. Scoring under this variation may reflect traditional golf outcomes, such as a “birdie” if one washer 120 lands in the target aperture 104 on the first toss, “par” if one washer 120 lands in the aperture 104 on the second toss, and “bogey” or worse if all washer 120 tosses either miss or land only on the top surface 103. This embodiment may enhance the thematic connection to golf and introduce a skill-based scoring dynamic that mirrors real-world golf play.
[0041] The present invention is also comprised of a method of using 200 the device 100, as seen in FIG. 3. First, a device 100 is provided comprised of a base 102 with at least one target aperture 104, a flag assembly 110 including a flag pole 112 and flag 118, and a plurality of washers 120 [Step 202]. Next, the flag pole 112 may be attached to the base 102, either fixedly or removably via fastener 114, and the flag 118 is displayed with optional indicia 116 for visibility or theme purposes [Step 206]. After that, each player is provided with at least one washer 120, wherein each washer 120 is distinguishable by color, pattern 122, and / or texture 124 [Step 208]. Then, players alternate tossing the washers 120 underhand toward the opposing base 102 from behind its front edge, preferably tossing three washers 120 per round [Step 210]. Next, each washer 120 is scored based on its final position: three points for landing in the aperture 104, one point for landing on the top surface 103, and zero points for washers 120 that miss or bounce into the aperture 104 [Step 212]. Then, scores are compared between players and / or teams for each round, and only the team with the higher score receives a net score based on the difference between point totals [Step 214]. Next, play continues until a predefined winning condition is met, such as achieving exactly 21 points, completing a best-of-three format, and while optionally observing special rules such as the Skunk Rule or score reset upon exceeding 21 points [Step 216]. Finally, an optional golf-themed scoring variation may be implemented by assigning par values to each base 102 and adjusting washer 120 tosses and outcomes to correspond with traditional golf scoring terms [Step 218].
