Description

Secondary battery manufacturing device and method for manufacturing a secondary battery using the same

[0001] The present invention relates to a secondary battery manufacturing device and a method for manufacturing a secondary battery using the same. This application claims the benefit of Korean Application No. 10-2023-0076992, filed June 15, 2023, which is incorporated herein by reference in its entirety.

[0002] Unlike primary batteries, secondary batteries can be charged and discharged multiple times. They are widely used as the energy source for various wireless devices, such as handsets, laptops, and cordless vacuum cleaners. Recently, improvements in energy density and economies of scale have dramatically reduced the manufacturing costs of electric-powered hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) and battery electric vehicles (BEVs). Furthermore, as BEVs' ranges have increased to match those of fuel-powered vehicles, the primary use of secondary batteries is shifting from mobile devices to mobility.

[0003] The electrode drying process removes moisture from the positive and negative electrodes after applying active material to the sheet-shaped positive and negative electrode plates, before separating them. Uniform drying across the entire electrode sheet can improve the yield and reliability of secondary batteries.

[0004] The technical idea of the present invention aims to solve a problem by providing a secondary battery manufacturing device with improved reliability.

[0005] According to exemplary embodiments of the present invention for solving the above-described problem, a secondary battery manufacturing apparatus is provided. The apparatus includes: a drying chamber; and a water spraying device configured to spray water onto an electrode sheet within the drying chamber, wherein the water spraying device includes a nozzle configured to rotate.

[0006] The rotation axis of the above nozzle is parallel to the traveling direction of the electrode sheet.

[0007] The water spray device further includes a motor configured to generate a driving force for rotating the nozzle; and a first gear interposed between the motor and the nozzle.

[0008] The water injection device further includes a second gear interposed between the first gear and the nozzle.

[0009] It further includes a controller configured to control rotation of the nozzle.

[0010] The above controller is configured to receive a recipe of an electrode sheet from a server.

[0011] The controller is configured to generate a signal for controlling the orientation of the nozzle based on the recipe.

[0012] The above water spraying device is configured to spray water on the unheated portion of the electrode sheet.

[0013] According to exemplary embodiments, a method for manufacturing a secondary battery is provided. The method comprises the steps of: coating an electrode slurry on an electrode current collector; adjusting an orientation of a nozzle of a water spray device; and drying an electrode sheet, wherein the electrode sheet is unwound from an electrode roll provided by winding the electrode current collector coated with the electrode slurry, and the water spray device is configured to spray water onto the electrode sheet through the nozzle while the electrode sheet is being dried.

[0014] The electrode sheet includes electrode slurry-coated maintenance lanes and a non-coated portion interposed between the maintenance lanes, and the water is sprayed onto the non-coated portion of the electrode sheet.

[0015] The step of adjusting the orientation of the nozzle of the water injection device rotates the nozzle about a rotation axis parallel to the running direction of the electrode sheet.

[0016] The orientation of the nozzle is controlled based on the recipe of the electrode sheet.

[0017] According to exemplary embodiments of the present invention, the orientation of the nozzle of a water spray device can be adjusted. Accordingly, the nozzle's spray can be adjusted to accommodate changes in the design and form factor of the electrode of a secondary battery, thereby reducing capital expenditures and enhancing the reliability of secondary battery manufacturing.
