Abstract
Description
Mold for measuring the thickness of a liner dome and its measuring method
[0001] The present invention relates to a mold used to measure the thickness of a dome portion in a plastic pressure vessel liner and a measuring method thereof.
[0002] Typically, high-pressure vessels are manufactured by wrapping fibers and curable polymers, such as epoxy resin, over a plastic liner to reduce weight. Currently, most plastic liners are manufactured by heat-welding a cylinder section manufactured through extrusion molding and a dome section manufactured through injection molding.
[0003] However, plastic liners manufactured through injection molding and extrusion molding take a long time to heat-seal, are not economical for pressure vessels with small internal volumes, and may have airtightness problems at the fusion joint.
[0004] To overcome these problems, the blow molding process, which has a simple work process and relatively short process time, is being applied to the production of plastic liners.
[0005] In addition, the technology for measuring thickness using ultrasound is not suitable for precisely measuring the thickness of areas with severe curvature, such as pinch pockets generated in blow molding.
[0006] When a plastic liner is formed using a blow molding process, the outside of the liner is in contact with the mold, so the outer diameter can be controlled to a constant level. However, the inside of the liner is formed only by air (fluid) pressure, so it is difficult to control the thickness of the liner to a constant level.
[0007] Due to the polymer resin's displacement at the top and bottom of the mold, which correspond to the dome area where the mold closes, the liner thickness is not uniformly formed, and pinch pockets are formed along the mold closing line. The excessive thickness difference in these pinch pockets causes stress deviation. Therefore, it is necessary to precisely measure the liner thickness.
[0008] The purpose of the present invention is to provide a mold for measuring the thickness of a liner dome portion, which can precisely measure the thickness deviation of a pinch pocket portion where the most severe bending occurs during molding by cutting the liner dome portion based on the mold closing line.
[0009] In addition, another object of the present invention is to provide a liner dome thickness measuring method for measuring the thickness of a liner dome using the mold for measuring the thickness of the liner dome.
[0010] According to one embodiment of the present invention, a mold for measuring the thickness of a liner dome portion includes a lower mold corresponding to a liner dome portion as a measurement target and having a cutting groove portion removed in an up-and-down direction at a first angle (θ1, for example, 45 degrees) on a plane, an upper punch that descends from above the liner dome portion and interacts with the cutting groove portion of the lower mold to cut a thickness measurement portion from the liner dome portion at the first angle, and a rotational movement range setting member that is protrudingly provided on the lower mold to set a rotational movement range of the liner dome portion at a second angle (θ2, for example, 90 degrees) for the next cutting after cutting the liner dome portion.
[0011] The above second angle (θ2) can be set to a size obtained by dividing 360 degrees by the number of cuts (n) for the measurement target (θ2 = 360 degrees / n).
[0012] The above rotational movement range setting member can be installed clockwise from the center line of the cutting groove by a size (θ2-θ1 / 2) obtained by subtracting 1 / 2 of the cutting groove angle (θ1) from the second angle (θ2).
[0013] The above upper punch may be provided with a plurality of measurement position indicators for indicating measurement positions after cutting the liner dome portion.
[0014] The liner dome portion, which is the measurement target, may include a head dome portion and a tail dome portion from which the cylinder portion of the liner is removed.
[0015] The above lower mold may have a first pillar corresponding to a first diameter hole in the center of the head dome portion.
[0016] The upper punch may have a first width spaced apart from the outer surface of the first diameter hole of the head dome portion coupled to the first pillar.
[0017] The above lower mold may have a second pillar corresponding to a second diameter hole in the center of the tail dome portion.
[0018] The upper punch may have a second width spaced apart from the outer surface of the second diameter hole of the tail dome portion coupled to the second pillar.
[0019] The above rotational movement range setting member is pressed and inserted when the liner dome part is installed in the lower mold, and after cutting the liner dome part, when the liner dome part is rotated at the second angle (θ2) for the next cutting, the member can protrude to support the cutting surface when corresponding to the cutting surface.
[0020] A method for measuring the thickness of a liner dome portion according to one embodiment of the present invention includes a first step of installing a liner dome portion as a measurement target in a lower mold having a cutting groove portion removed in an up-and-down direction at a first angle (θ1) on a plane, a second step of lowering an upper punch having the first angle from above the liner dome portion to interact with the cutting groove portion of the lower mold to cut a thickness measurement portion from the liner dome portion, a third step of marking a measurement position on the liner dome portion corresponding to a plurality of measurement position marking portions provided on the upper punch adjacent to the cut surface after cutting the liner dome portion, and a fourth step of actually measuring the thickness of a cut surface of the liner dome portion on which the measurement position is marked.
[0021] The second step may further include a movement setting step of cutting the liner dome part and then rotating the liner dome part at a second angle (θ2) for the next cutting, and setting the rotational movement range using a rotational movement range setting member protruding from the lower mold.
[0022] The second step may include a step of pressing and inserting the rotational movement range setting member when installing the liner dome part in the lower mold, and the movement setting step may further include a protruding support step in which, after cutting the liner dome part, the liner dome part is rotated at the second angle (θ2) for the next cut so that the rotational movement range setting member protrudes to support the cut surface when corresponding to the cut surface.
[0023] The fourth step may further include a step of actually measuring the thickness of the pinch pocket portion and the maximum thickness portion located on the cut surface.
[0024] In this way, one embodiment of the present invention comprises a lower mold, an upper punch, and a rotational movement range setting member to cut a liner dome portion, which is a measurement target, and actually measure the thickness of the cut surface, so that the thickness of the cut surface in the head dome portion and the tail dome portion can be precisely measured.
[0025] One embodiment has a plurality of measuring position indicators so that the thickness can be precisely measured at the same position on the cut surface of the head dome and tail dome by measuring the thickness at the same position.
[0026] One embodiment can precisely measure the thickness of the cut surface in the head dome and tail dome by minimizing the thickness deviation even in the pinch pocket section where the bending occurs the most severely.

[0043] FIG. 1 is an internal image of a plastic liner having a head dome portion and a tail dome portion to be measured in a mold for measuring the thickness of a liner dome portion according to one embodiment of the present invention and a method for measuring the same, and FIG. 2 is an image of a pinch pocket portion in a plastic liner that is the measurement target of FIG. 1.
[0044] Referring to FIGS. 1 and 2, a plastic liner can be manufactured by a blow molding process and has a central cylinder part (CP) in the longitudinal direction and a head dome part (HD) and a tail dome part (TD) provided at both ends of the cylinder part (CP). The head dome part (HD) and the tail dome part (TD) cut from the cylinder part (CP) are targets for thickness measurement, and in fact, their cut surfaces (C1: see FIGS. 5, 8, and 11b; C2: see FIGS. 6, 9, and 12b) are targets for measurement.
[0045] Blow molding molding has an uneven thickness due to the polymer resin being pushed out of the head dome (HD) at the top where the mold closes and the tail dome (TD) at the bottom, resulting in an excessive thickness difference. The warping is even more severe in the pinch pocket (PP) of the head dome (HD) and tail dome (TD).
[0046] One embodiment applies blow molding to enable precise thickness measurement even in areas with severe curves, such as a pinch pocket (PP) in a head dome (HD) and a tail dome (TD).
[0047] Fig. 3 is a plan view of a mold (lower mold and upper punch) for measuring the thickness of a liner dome according to one embodiment of the present invention, and Fig. 4 is a side view of a mold (lower mold and upper punch) for measuring the thickness of a liner dome according to one embodiment of the present invention. Referring to Figs. 3 and 4, the mold for measuring the thickness of a liner dome according to one embodiment includes a lower mold (10), an upper punch (20), and a rotational movement range setting member (30).
[0048] The lower mold (10) corresponds to the liner dome portion which is the measurement target and has a cutting groove portion (11) removed in the up-down direction at a first angle (θ1) on the plane. The lower mold (10) is formed separately to correspond to the head dome portion (HD) and the tail dome portion (TD) which have different dome shapes. For convenience, separate illustrations are omitted.
[0049] The upper punch (20) is formed to descend from above the liner dome portion and interact with the cutting groove portion (11) of the lower mold (10) to cut the thickness measurement portion from the liner dome portion at a first angle (θ1). The upper punch (20) is formed separately to correspond to the head dome portion (HD) and the tail dome portion (TD) having different dome shapes. For convenience, separate illustrations are omitted.
[0050] The first angle (θ1) is set to a size that allows interaction between the cutting groove (11) and the upper punch (20) that performs cutting. As an example, the first angle (θ1) is set to 45 degrees, and may be set to another angle.
[0051] The rotational movement range setting member (30) is protrudingly provided on the lower mold (10) to set the rotational movement range of the liner dome at a second angle (θ2) for the next cutting after cutting the liner dome. As an example, the second angle (θ2) is set to 90 degrees, and may be set to another angle. The rotational movement range setting member (30) is provided on each of the head dome (HD) and the tail dome (TD). For convenience, separate illustrations are omitted.
[0052] Fig. 5 is a plan view showing the head dome portion remaining after cutting out the cylinder portion from the plastic liner of Fig. 1 and the portion to be cut for measuring its thickness. Referring to Fig. 5, the second angle (θ2) is set to a size equal to 360 degrees divided by the number of cuts (n) for the measurement target (θ2 = 360 degrees / n). As an example, the head dome portion (HD) can be set to a size equal to 360 degrees divided by the number of cuts (n = 4) (θ2 = 360 degrees / 4), i.e., 90 degrees.
[0053] Accordingly, the head dome (HD) has a cutting surface (C1) on both sides of the first angle (θ1) and a cutting surface (C1) at each second angle (θ2) due to the mutual cutting process of the lower mold (10) and the upper punch (20).
[0054] The head dome portion (HD) has a first diameter hole (H1) in the center. The lower mold (10) of the head dome portion (HD) has a first pillar (P1) corresponding to the first diameter hole (H1). The upper punch (20) has a first width (W1) spaced apart from the outer surface of the first diameter hole (H1) of the head dome portion (HD) that is coupled to the first pillar (P1).
[0055] Fig. 6 is a plan view showing the tail dome portion remaining after cutting out the cylinder portion from the plastic liner of Fig. 1 and the portion to be cut for measuring its thickness. Referring to Fig. 6, the second angle (θ2) is set to a size equal to 360 degrees divided by the number of cuts (n) for the measurement target (θ2 = 360 degrees / n). As an example, the head dome portion (HD) can be set to a size equal to 360 degrees divided by the number of cuts (n = 4) (θ2 = 360 degrees / 4), i.e., 90 degrees.
[0056] Accordingly, the tail dome (TD) has cutting surfaces (C2) on both sides of the first angle (θ1) and has cutting surfaces (C2) at every second angle (θ2) due to the mutual cutting process of the lower mold (10) and the upper punch (20).
[0057] The tail dome portion (TD) has a second diameter hole (H2) in the center. The lower mold (10) of the tail dome portion (TD) has a second pillar (P2) corresponding to the second diameter hole (H2). The upper punch (20) has a second width (W2) spaced apart from the outer surface of the second diameter hole (H2) of the tail dome portion (TD) that is coupled to the second pillar (P2).
[0058] Fig. 7 is a plan view illustrating a continuous process of cutting a mold for measuring the thickness of a liner dome according to one embodiment of the present invention. Referring to Figs. 3 and 7, the rotational movement range setting member (30) is installed clockwise from the center line of the cutting groove (11) by a size (θ2 - θ1 / 2) obtained by subtracting 1 / 2 of the first angle (θ1) of the cutting groove from the second angle (θ2).
[0059] As an example, the rotational movement range setting member (30) is pressed and inserted when the liner dome portion, i.e., the head dome portion (HD) or the tail dome portion (TD), is installed in the lower mold (10), and after cutting the liner dome portion, the liner dome portion is rotated at a second angle (θ2) for the next cutting, and when corresponding to the cutting surface (C1, C2), the member protrudes and supports the cutting surface (C1, C2) in a clockwise direction.
[0060] The upper punch (20) is provided with a plurality of measurement position indicators (21) for indicating measurement positions after cutting the liner dome. The measurement position indicators (21) are provided in a plurality on the upper punch (20) adjacent to the cut surfaces (C1, C2) after cutting the liner dome with the upper punch (20). The measurement position indicators (21) correspondingly enable the measurement position to be indicated on the liner dome.
[0061] The liner dome part is installed in the lower mold (10), the liner dome part is cut at a first angle (θ1) using the upper punch (20), and the measurement position is marked on the liner dome part corresponding to the measurement position marking part (21) adjacent to the cut surface (C1, C2) (①, see Figs. 8 and 9). The liner dome part is lifted and rotated at a second angle (θ2). At this time, the rotational movement range setting member (30) is pulled out to support the cut surface (C1, C2) of the liner dome part (②).
[0062] Again, the liner dome is cut at a first angle (θ1) with the upper punch (20), and a measuring position (MP, measuring point) is marked on the liner dome corresponding to the measuring position marking portion (21) adjacent to the cut surface (C1, C2) (①, see Figs. 8 and 9). By repeating this, a cut surface (C1, C2) corresponding to the first angle (θ1) is formed for the entire liner dome, and the measuring position (MP) can be accurately marked adjacent to this cut surface (C1, C2).
[0063] Fig. 8 is a plan view showing a measurement position indicated by a measurement position indicator on the head dome of Fig. 5. Referring to Fig. 8, when cutting for thickness measurement is completed, the head dome (HD) has a measurement position (MP) indicated close to the cutting surface (C1) that is the measurement target based on the rotational movement range setting member (30) and the measurement position indicator (21).
[0064] As an example, according to the measurement position indicator (21), the measurement position (MP) may include the first, second, and third measurement positions (P11, P12, P13) going outward from the center of the head dome (HD) in correspondence to the radius in the radial direction.
[0065] Fig. 9 is a plan view showing a measurement position indicated by a measurement position indicator on the tail dome of Fig. 6. Referring to Fig. 9, when cutting for thickness measurement is completed, the tail dome (TD) has a measurement position (MP) indicated close to the cutting surface (C2) that is the measurement target based on the rotational movement range setting member (30) and the measurement position indicator (21).
[0066] As an example, according to the measurement position indicator (21), the measurement position (MP) may include first, second, and third measurement positions (P21, P22, P23) going outward from the center of the tail dome (TD) in correspondence to the radius in the radial direction.
[0067] In one embodiment, in order to precisely measure the thickness of the head dome (HD) and the tail dome (TD) despite the pinch pocket (PP), the head dome (HD) and the tail dome (TD) are cut and the thickness is directly measured at the cut surfaces (C1, C2).
[0068] Fig. 10 is a flowchart of a method for measuring the thickness of a liner dome according to one embodiment of the present invention. Referring to Figs. 7 and 10, the method for measuring the thickness of a liner dome according to one embodiment includes a first step (ST1), a second step (ST2), a third step (ST3), and a fourth step (ST4).
[0069] In the first step (ST1), the liner dome portion to be measured is installed in a lower mold (10) having a cutting groove portion (11) removed in the up-and-down direction at a first angle (θ1) on a plane. That is, in the first step (ST1), when measuring the thickness of the head dome portion (HD), the head dome portion (HD) is installed in the lower mold (10). In addition, in the first step (ST1), when measuring the thickness of the tail dome portion (TD), the tail dome portion (TD) is installed in the lower mold (10).
[0070] In the second step (ST2), an upper punch (20) having a first angle (θ1) is lowered from above the liner dome to interact with the cutting groove (11) of the lower mold (10) to cut a thickness measurement portion from the liner dome.
[0071] That is, in the second step (ST2), when measuring the thickness of the head dome (HD), the upper punch (20) interacts with the cutting groove (11) of the lower mold (10) to cut the thickness measurement portion of the head dome (HD) at a first angle (θ1). In addition, in the second step (ST2), when measuring the thickness of the tail dome (TD), the upper punch (20) interacts with the cutting groove (11) of the lower mold (10) to cut the thickness measurement portion of the tail dome (TD) at a first angle (θ1).
[0072] The second step (ST2) further includes a movement setting step (ST21) in which, after cutting the liner dome, the liner dome is rotated at a second angle (θ2) for the next cut and a rotational movement range is set by a rotational movement range setting member (30) protruding from the lower mold (10).
[0073] The second step (ST2) includes a step of pressing and inserting the rotational movement range setting member (30) when installing the liner dome portion into the lower mold (10). The insertion of the rotational movement range setting member (30) enables the liner dome portion, i.e., the head dome portion (HD) and the tail dome portion (TD), to be installed in a stable state in the lower mold (10).
[0074] The movement setting step (ST21) further includes a protrusion support step (ST22) in which, after cutting the liner dome, the liner dome, i.e., the head dome (HD) and the tail dome (TD), are rotated at a second angle (θ2) for the next cut to correspond to the cutting plane (C1, C2), and the rotation movement range setting member (30) protrudes to support the cutting plane (C1, C2).
[0075] Referring to FIGS. 7 to 10, in the third step (ST3), after cutting the liner dome, a measurement position is indicated on the liner dome in correspondence with a plurality of measurement position indicating portions (21) provided on the upper punch (20) adjacent to the cut surface (C1, C2).
[0076] That is, in the third step (ST3), when measuring the thickness of the head dome (HD), the measurement positions (P11, P12, P13) are displayed on the head dome (HD) in correspondence with the measurement position display portion (21) of the upper punch (20) (see Fig. 8). In addition, in the third step (ST3), when measuring the thickness of the tail dome (TD), the measurement positions (P21, P22, P23) are displayed on the tail dome (TD) in correspondence with the measurement position display portion (21) of the upper punch (20) (see Fig. 9).
[0077] FIGS. 11a and 11b are actual images of a head dome applied to a mold for measuring the thickness of a liner dome portion of one embodiment and a measuring method thereof and a cut state thereof, and FIGS. 12a and 12b are actual images of a tail dome applied to a mold for measuring the thickness of a liner dome portion of one embodiment and a measuring method thereof and a cut state thereof.
[0078] Referring to FIGS. 10 to 12, the fourth step (ST4) actually measures the thickness of the cut surfaces (C1, C2) of the liner dome portion where the measurement positions are indicated. The fourth step (ST4) further includes a step of actually measuring the thickness of the pinch pocket portion (PP) and the maximum thickness portion located at the cut surfaces (C1, C2). That is, the pinch pocket portion (PP) and the maximum thickness portion are exposed to the cut surfaces (C1, C2), so they can actually be measured.

[0080] Referring to Table 1, Example 1 cut the part where the mold of the head dome (HD) closes with an upper punch (20) and actually measured the thickness at each of the cutting surface (C1) of the head dome (HD) at each measuring position (P11, P13), the pinch pocket (PP) and the maximum thickness portion (MT), thereby obtaining high-precision values at each position. In contrast, Comparative Example 1 measured the thickness of the part where the mold of the head dome (HD) closes with ultrasonic waves and measured corresponding to the measuring positions (P11, P13), thereby obtaining low-precision values at each position, and the thickness could not be measured at the pinch pocket (PP) and the maximum thickness portion (MT).
[0081] In addition, the deviation at the two measurement positions (P11, P13) in Example 1 was smaller than the deviation at the positions corresponding to the two measurement positions (P11, P13) in Comparative Example 1. When Example 1 and Comparative Example 1 were comprehensively compared, it was confirmed that the thickness measurement of the head dome (HD) in Example 1 was more precise than that in Comparative Example 1, and that measurement could be performed at all positions.

[0083] Referring to Table 2, Example 2 cut the closing part of the mold of the tail dome (TD) with an upper punch (20) and actually measured the thickness at each of the cutting surface (C2) of the tail dome (TD) at each measuring position (P21, P23) and the pinch pocket (PP) and the maximum thickness portion (MT), thereby obtaining a high-precision value at each position. In contrast, Comparative Example 2 measured the thickness of the closing part of the mold of the tail dome (TD) with ultrasonic waves and obtained a low-precision value by measuring it corresponding to the measuring position (P23), and could not measure the thickness at the position corresponding to the measuring position (P21), the pinch pocket (PP), and the maximum thickness portion (MT).
[0084] When comprehensively comparing Example 2 and Comparative Example 2, it was confirmed that the thickness measurement of the tail dome (TD) in Example 2 was much more precise than that in Comparative Example 2, and that measurement could be made at all positions.
[0085] Although the preferred embodiments of the present invention have been described above, the present invention is not limited thereto, and various modifications can be made within the scope of the patent claims, the detailed description of the invention, and the attached drawings, and it is obvious that this also falls within the scope of the present invention.
