In the absence of conflict, the embodiments of the present application and the technical features in the embodiments can be combined with each other.
[0038] The present invention provides a temperature regulation system for an energy storage module, which is installed in a vehicle. Please refer to Figure 1, which is a schematic diagram of the temperature regulation system for an energy storage module according to an embodiment of the present invention. The temperature regulation system for the energy storage module includes a fuel tank 1, a battery pack assembly 2, a fuel line 3, a heater 4, and a controller 5. The battery pack assembly 2 includes a heat exchange tube 201, a battery module 202, and a first temperature sensor 203. The battery module 202 is in contact with the heat exchange tube 201. When the vehicle is not fuel-powered, the fuel tank 1, the heat exchange tube 201, and the fuel line 3 are electrically connected to form a first circulation loop. The controller 5 is electrically connected to the first temperature sensor 203 and the heater 4, respectively. The first temperature sensor 203 is configured to collect the temperature of the battery module 202. The controller 5 is configured to activate the heater 4 to heat the fuel flowing into the heat exchange tube 201 when the temperature of the battery module 202 falls below a first temperature threshold. When the temperature of the battery module 202 rises above a second temperature threshold, the controller 5 is configured to deactivate the heater 4 to stop heating the fuel flowing into the heat exchange tube 201.
[0039] Specifically, the first temperature threshold represents the lower limit of the normal operating temperature range of the battery pack, and the second temperature threshold represents the upper limit of the normal operating temperature range of the battery pack. Typically, the first temperature threshold is 0°C to 10°C, and the second temperature threshold is 40°C to 50°C. The normal operating temperature of the battery pack is 0°C to 45°C, that is, the first temperature threshold is 0°C and the second temperature threshold is 45°C. With the development of battery technology, the temperature range of normal battery operation is getting wider and wider, which will not be repeated here.
[0040] Hybrid vehicles use the fuel tank and battery pack assembly as energy storage modules, and are equipped with two powertrains in one vehicle. They can be divided into plug-in and non-plug-in types based on whether charging is required, and can be divided into series, parallel, and hybrid types based on the power transmission route in the system structure. In the existing technology, pure electric vehicles and pure fuel vehicles both use water cooling systems for cooling. Hybrid vehicles combine the water cooling systems of pure electric vehicles and pure fuel vehicles to control the temperature of the fuel tank 1 and battery pack assembly 2. The water cooling system usually requires the assembly of water cooling pipes, water pumps, water coolant, heat exchangers, heaters, etc., resulting in a complex temperature control system structure and low temperature control efficiency for hybrid vehicles. The technical solution provided by the embodiment of the present invention uses the fuel in the fuel tank as the coolant for temperature control, avoiding the use of coolant. The fuel pump in the fuel tank drives the fuel to circulate in the oil circulation loop, avoiding the use of a water pump, thereby simplifying the weight of the vehicle and achieving a more efficient temperature control strategy.
[0041] There are four main types of hybrid technologies commonly found on the market: MHEV (Mild Hybrid Electric Vehicle), HEV (Hybrid Electric Vehicle), PHEV (Plug-in Hybird Electirc Vehicle) and REEV (Range Extender Electric Vehicle).
[0042] MHEV mild hybrids incorporate a 48V electrical system based on the existing vehicle. This system primarily consists of a belt-driven generator (BSG) or integrated starter generator (ISG), a 48V battery, and a DC / DC converter. This system stores energy recovered during braking and assists the engine during starting and acceleration, achieving mild fuel savings and improving ride comfort. The 48V mild hybrid system offers a simple structure and low cost, but its development threshold is relatively low.
[0043] The battery pack of an HEV hybrid vehicle cannot be connected to an external power source, and due to the small battery capacity, the pure electric range is relatively short. In most cases, the vehicle is driven by the cooperation between the motor and the engine according to different working conditions.
[0044] Compared with HEV hybrid vehicles, PHEV plug-in hybrid vehicles have a more complex structure, can be charged using an external power supply, have a larger capacity battery, and therefore require a larger battery installation space.
[0045] A REEV extended-range hybrid vehicle uses an engine to generate electricity and an electric motor to drive the vehicle. When the battery pack is fully charged, the vehicle operates in pure electric mode. When the battery is low, the vehicle's engine starts, driving the generator to charge the power battery and provide power for the electric motor (i.e., extended-range mode). The structure of a REEV extended-range hybrid vehicle is similar to a plug-in hybrid, but the biggest difference is that the engine in the extended-range hybrid vehicle is only responsible for generating electricity for the electric motor, while the electric motor actually drives the wheels.
[0046] Generally speaking, HEVs fall between mild and strong hybrids, with the primary source of propulsion coming from the engine. MHEVs, with the electric motor responsible for more of the "miscellaneous tasks" involved in driving, offer limited fuel efficiency. PHEVs, with both fuel and electric powertrains, offer lower fuel consumption when driven by the electric motor. REEVs, with extended-range hybrids, have a relatively simple system, converting engine power into electricity, which is then directly driven by the electric motor. PHEVs, with their dual powertrains, offer both pure electric mode for short trips and hybrid mode for long distances, enabling environmentally friendly travel while reducing range anxiety. Reverse power delivery expands the vehicle's range. The fuel engine's lower displacement ensures ample power while enhancing the vehicle's economy, making them popular. Regardless of the type of hybrid vehicle, the battery pack needs to be cooled in the summer heat and when in use, and needs to be heated in the winter cold.
[0047] The following takes a PHEV plug-in hybrid vehicle as an example and describes the technical solution of this embodiment in detail with reference to Figures 2 to 8 .
[0048] The temperature regulation system for the energy storage module of this plug-in hybrid vehicle includes a fuel tank 1, a battery pack assembly 2, a fuel line 3, a heater 4, and a controller 5. Using the above embodiment, when the vehicle is not fuel-driven, the fuel tank 1, the heat exchange tube 201, and the fuel line 3 are electrically connected to form a first circulation loop. The controller 5 is electrically connected to a first temperature sensor 203 and heater 4, respectively. The first temperature sensor 203 is configured to collect the temperature of the battery module 202. The controller 5 is configured to activate heater 4 to heat the fuel flowing into the heat exchange tube 201 when the temperature of the battery module 202 falls below a first set temperature threshold; and to deactivate heater 4 to stop heating the fuel flowing into the heat exchange tube 201 when the temperature of the battery module 202 rises above a second set temperature threshold.
[0049] Similar to gasoline-powered vehicles, the fuel tank and battery pack components of hybrid vehicles heat up during operation. Excessively high fuel tank temperatures increase oil evaporation and consumption. Furthermore, the oil becomes thinner due to continued high temperatures, making it difficult to form a complete lubricating film in areas requiring lubrication. This increases friction, further increasing wear on mating parts within the engine, and even causing dry friction in some areas. Excessively high temperatures can also cause carbon deposits to form between the gasoline and oil, leading to sintering. Some of this carbon deposits can directly affect combustion, resulting in a loss of power, while others can enter mating clearances, accelerating wear and even causing damage to components. Excessive temperatures can also cause hybrid vehicle engines to lose even more power.
[0050] For battery pack components, excessively high temperatures can reduce the lifespan of the cells within the pack and decrease charging safety. Similarly, in special circumstances, such as cold weather, the fuel tank and battery pack components of hybrid vehicles can reach very low temperatures. When the fuel tank temperature is very low, the cold fuel entering the engine can cause the engine to not start properly. When the battery temperature is too low, metal deposits can form within the battery, causing an internal short circuit, especially in lithium iron phosphate batteries. Generally, at 0°C, the capacity of a lithium iron phosphate battery is only around 60-70%, and at -20°C, only 20-40% remains.
[0051] Therefore, under extremely cold or hot conditions, the fuel tank and battery pack assembly are unsuitable for use. Therefore, a temperature control system is required to regulate the temperature and keep the fuel tank and battery pack assembly temperatures below their maximum and minimum limits. A hybrid vehicle employing the energy storage module provided by an embodiment of the present invention achieves efficient temperature regulation by circulating the fuel in the fuel tank 1 through the oil circulation loop while simultaneously heating the batteries within the battery pack assembly.
[0052] Specifically, Figure 2 shows a schematic diagram of the temperature regulation system for the energy storage module of a plug-in hybrid vehicle. The oil pipeline 3 includes a first oil pipeline 301 and a second oil pipeline 302. The oil outlet of the fuel tank 1, the first oil pipeline 301, and the inlet of the heat exchange tube 201 are sequentially connected. The outlet of the heat exchange tube 201, the second oil pipeline 302, and the oil inlet of the fuel tank 1 are sequentially connected. The vehicle is equipped with an engine 6. When the vehicle is fuel-powered, the engine 6, the second oil pipeline 302, and the heat exchange tube 201 are sequentially connected. The second oil pipeline 302 is equipped with a cooling module and a second temperature sensor 306. The second temperature sensor 306 is configured to detect the temperature of the fuel flowing into the engine 6 when the vehicle is fuel-powered. The controller 5 is configured to control the cooling module to cool the fuel flowing into the engine 6 when the second temperature sensor 306 detects that the temperature of the fuel flowing into the engine 6 exceeds a set third temperature threshold. The dashed lines in Figure 2 represent the oil or water circuits, and the solid lines represent the electrical connections of the controller.
[0053] As shown in Figure 2, the fuel outlet of fuel tank 1 is connected to first fuel line 301, and the fuel inlet of fuel tank 1 is connected to second fuel line 302. Second fuel line 302 is provided with a shutoff valve 303, which is electrically connected to controller 5. Controller 5 is configured to open electronically controlled shutoff valve 303 to open the first circulation loop when the vehicle is not in fuel-powered operation. When the energy storage module no longer requires temperature control, shutoff valve 303 is closed, closing the first circulation loop, allowing the fuel in fuel tank 1 to flow directly into engine 6 of the power system.
[0054] The cooling module provided in the second oil pipeline 302 includes a cooling tank 7, a radiator 8, and a water pump 9. The radiator 8 and the cooling tank 7 are connected by a water pipe to form a second circulation loop. The second oil pipeline 302 passes through the cooling tank 7. The controller 5 is electrically connected to the water pump 9 and the radiator 8. The controller 5 is specifically configured to control the radiator 8 to cool the water flowing into the cooling tank 7 when the temperature of the fuel flowing into the engine 6 exceeds a set third temperature threshold. The third temperature threshold represents the upper limit of the temperature of the fuel injected into the engine 6. Typically, the third temperature threshold can be set within the range of 105 to 110 degrees Celsius.
[0055] After the fuel cools the battery pack assembly 2, the fuel temperature in the second oil conduit 302 is very high. If the fuel needs to be delivered to the engine 6 at this time, it needs to be cooled by a cooling tank 7. The cooling tank 7 is used to remove the heat from the fuel, so a plate heat exchanger can be used. Radiator 8 cools the water in the second water circulation loop, and an air-cooled radiator can be used, without limitation. If the second temperature sensor 306 detects that the oil temperature is too high and does not meet the inlet temperature of the engine 6, the plate heat exchanger and the external cooling water circuit continue to cool the oil, and the cooled fuel enters the engine 6.
[0056] As shown in Figure 7, Figure 7 is a schematic diagram of the bottom of the vehicle in an embodiment of the present invention. The cooling box 7 is installed at the front end of the vehicle body bottom plate 10, located in front of the battery pack assembly 2. When the fuel temperature in the first circulation loop is too high, the fuel in the oil pipeline 3 is cooled by the cooling box 7, and the radiator 8 provides cooling water to the cooling box 7 through the second circulation loop. The external radiator 8 and the cooling box 7 cool the heated fuel before it enters the engine 6. When the remaining fuel value does not meet the needs of the engine 6, the fuel supply to the engine 6 is stopped, and the fuel can circulate back and forth through the first circulation loop to cool the battery pack assembly 2, and the electricity stored in the battery pack provides driving power for the vehicle body.
[0057] As shown in Figure 2, the oil pipeline also includes a third oil pipeline 304, which is connected in parallel with the cooling tank 7. A valve 305 is provided on the third oil pipeline 304 and is electrically connected to the controller 5. When the second temperature sensor 306 detects that the temperature of the fuel flowing into the engine 6 exceeds a set third temperature threshold, the controller 5 controls the valve 305 to close. The third temperature threshold represents the upper limit of the fuel temperature for normal engine operation. The third oil pipeline 304 is connected in parallel with the cooling tank 7. After the fuel flows out of the heat exchange tubes 201 of the battery pack assembly 2, the second temperature sensor 306 on the oil pipeline 3 detects the oil temperature. If the oil temperature meets the inlet temperature requirement of the engine 6, the oil flows directly into the engine 6 through the third oil pipeline 304 without passing through the cooling tank 7.
[0058] As shown in Figure 3, which is a side view of the energy storage module installation structure for a plug-in hybrid vehicle according to an embodiment of the present invention, a longitudinal beam 11 is provided on the front side of the vehicle body floor 10. The battery pack assembly 2 is connected to the longitudinal beam 11 on both sides, thereby mounting the battery pack assembly 2 on the vehicle body floor. The fuel tank 1 is mounted on the rear side of the floor 10, within the space below the second row of seats. This ensures that the fuel tank 1 and battery pack assembly 2 are mounted at a safe height while ensuring sufficient leg room in the vehicle.
[0059] Specifically, as shown in Figure 4, Figure 4 illustrates the installation structure of the heater 4 according to an embodiment of the present invention. An oil pump 101 and an oil level sensor (a conventional oil tank accessory, often called a float, not shown) are installed within the fuel tank. The outlet of the oil pump 101, the first oil pipeline 301, and the inlet of the heat exchange tube 201 are sequentially connected. As shown in Figure 5, Figure 5 illustrates the installation structure of the heating wire according to an embodiment of the present invention. The heater 4 includes a heating wire 401 disposed within the fuel tank 1. Multiple sections of the heating wire 401 are arranged along the extension direction of the oil pump 101 and in contact with the oil pump 101. The oil level sensor and each section of the heating wire 401 are electrically connected to a controller 5. The oil level sensor is lightweight and floats above the oil level. As the oil level sensor rises or falls, it transmits the amount of kerosene to the controller 5. The multi-section electrically controlled heating wire 401, the oil level sensor of the fuel tank 1, and the fuel pump 101 are controlled in a coordinated manner by the controller 5. When the oil level sensor detects a certain amount of fuel, the controller 5 controls the heating wire 401 corresponding to the fuel level to heat it.
[0060] The above scheme is equivalent to making the oil pump 101 inside the oil tank 1 equipped with a pressure-controlled segmented heating wire 401. When the ambient temperature is low and the battery pack assembly 2 needs to be heated, the oil level sensor sends the oil amount data in the oil tank 1 to the controller 5. The controller 5 controls the heater 4 to turn on the heating wire 401 of the corresponding heating section according to the oil amount, thereby realizing graded heating according to the amount of fuel. The oil pump 101 is used to pump the oil to the heat exchange tube 201 inside the battery pack assembly 2 to realize heating of the battery pack assembly 2.
[0061] Using this solution, the battery pack 2 is cooled and heated directly from the fuel tank 1 in a PHEV plug-in hybrid vehicle. In cold weather, when preheating the battery pack 2 and the fuel system is required, the electrically controlled heating wire 401 is energized to heat the fuel near the fuel pump 101 inside the fuel tank 1. Because the fuel pump 101 first draws fuel near the pump 101, heating is also performed near the pump 101, resulting in a more effective heating effect. As shown in Figure 5, the heating wire 401 is divided into three sections: upper, middle, and lower. The corresponding heating wire 401 is automatically activated based on the level of fuel in the fuel tank 1. If the fuel level sensor detects that only one-third of the fuel in the fuel tank 1 is left, the controller 5 controls the heater 4 to activate only the lower heating wire 401 to heat the fuel, preventing heat waste.
[0062] As an optional embodiment, the number of heat exchange tubes 201, battery modules 202, and first temperature sensors 203 is N, where N is an integer greater than 1. N heat exchange tubes 201 are arranged in parallel within the battery pack assembly, and each heat exchange tube 201 contacts a battery module 202. The battery module 202 here can be understood as a battery combination arranged on the same heat exchange tube 201. As shown in Figure 2, a throttle valve 204 is provided on the heat exchange tube 201. The throttle valve 204 is electrically connected to the controller 5. The controller 5 is configured to open the throttle valve 204 when the temperature of the battery module 202 is lower than a set first temperature threshold, allowing the heated fuel to flow into the heat exchange tube 201; and to open the throttle valve 204 when the temperature of the battery module 202 is higher than a set second temperature threshold, allowing the fuel that has stopped heating to flow into the heat exchange tube 201. The throttle valve is an electronically controlled throttle valve.
[0063] As shown in Figure 6, Figure 6 is a diagram of the installation structure of the heat exchange tube 201 in the battery pack according to an embodiment of the present invention. Three heat exchange tubes 201 are arranged in a serpentine or S-shaped manner in the battery pack assembly 2. The heat exchange tubes 201 contact the battery modules 202 in the battery pack assembly 2 to transfer heat. The bottom plate of the battery pack assembly 2 has an oil cooling plate, into which fuel is injected. The oil circuit forms multiple groups of oil branch circuits along with the arrangement of the heat exchange tubes 201. One heat exchange tube 201 corresponds to one battery module 202. The battery module 202 here can be understood as a battery combination arranged on the same heat exchange tube 201. Each battery module 202 is equipped with a first temperature sensor 203. The first temperature sensor 203 is used to distinguish the battery module 202 with an excessive temperature. The controller 5 opens the throttle valve 204 on the heat exchange tube 201 corresponding to the battery module 202 according to the detection result of the first temperature sensor 203, thereby controlling the flow direction of the oil branch circuit inside the battery pack assembly 2, thereby achieving a more efficient temperature control strategy.
[0064] Inside the battery pack assembly 2, the battery modules 202 are arranged at the top, while the heat exchange tubes 201, which form the branching oil circuits, are iron pipes arranged at the bottom to prevent leakage. In hot weather, the fuel cools the battery pack assembly 2 through the lower passages. Compared to traditional cooling systems, this system can directly utilize the oil pump 101, and the fuel is directly consumed by the engine 6, eliminating the need for a water pump as in previous cooling systems. Figure 6 also shows that there are two parallel longitudinal beams 11 on the front side of the vehicle body floor, connecting the battery pack assembly 2 to the longitudinal beams 11 on both sides, thereby mounting the battery pack assembly 2 on the vehicle floor.
[0065] It should be understood that in order to streamline the present disclosure and aid in understanding one or more of the various inventive aspects, in the above description of exemplary embodiments of the invention, various features of the invention are sometimes grouped together into a single embodiment, figure, or description thereof. However, this disclosed method should not be interpreted as reflecting an intention that the claimed invention requires more features than are expressly recited in each claim. Rather, as reflected in the claims below, inventive aspects lie in less than all the features of the individual embodiments disclosed above. Accordingly, the claims following the detailed description are hereby expressly incorporated into this detailed description, with each claim standing on its own as a separate embodiment of the invention.
[0066] Based on the same inventive concept, an embodiment of the present invention further provides a temperature control method for an energy storage module, as shown in FIG8 . FIG8 is a flow chart of a temperature control method for an energy storage module according to an embodiment of the present invention, which is applied to the temperature control system of the energy storage module described above. The method includes:
[0067] The first temperature sensor 203 collects the temperature of the battery module 202; when the temperature of the battery module 202 is lower than a set first temperature threshold, the controller 5 turns on the heater 4 to heat the fuel flowing into the heat exchange tube 201; when the temperature of the battery module 202 is higher than a set second temperature threshold, the controller turns off the heater 4 and stops heating the fuel flowing into the heat exchange tube 201.
[0068] That is to say, when the battery pack assembly 2 of the energy storage module needs to be heated, the heater 4 heats the fuel upstream of the battery pack assembly 2 , and the heated fuel enters the heat exchange tube 201 through the oil circulation loop and heats the battery module 202 in the battery pack assembly 2 .
[0069] When the battery pack assembly 2 of the energy storage module needs to be cooled, the heater 4 is turned off, and the fuel enters the heat exchange tube 201 through the oil circulation loop and cools the battery module 202 in the battery pack assembly 2.
[0070] When the temperature of the fuel in the oil pipeline 3 exceeds the fuel inlet temperature of the engine 6 or the limit temperature of the fuel tank 1, the fuel in the oil pipeline 3 is cooled by the cooling module.
[0071] Hybrid vehicles use fuel tanks and battery pack components as energy storage modules. In the prior art, pure electric vehicles and pure fuel vehicles are cooled by water cooling systems. Hybrid vehicles combine the water cooling systems of pure electric vehicles and pure fuel vehicles to control the temperature of the fuel tank 1 and the battery pack component 2. The temperature control method of the above-mentioned energy storage module is implemented based on the specific structure of the energy storage module given in Figures 1 to 7. The technical solution provided by the embodiment of the present invention uses the fuel in the fuel tank 1 as the coolant for temperature control, avoiding the use of coolant, and uses the oil pump of the fuel tank 1 to drive the fuel to circulate in the oil circulation loop, avoiding the use of a water pump, thereby simplifying the weight of the car and achieving a more efficient temperature control strategy. It avoids the assembly of water cooling pipes, water pumps, water coolant, heat exchangers, heaters, etc. through the existing pure electric vehicle and fuel vehicle water cooling systems, resulting in a complex structure of the temperature control system of the hybrid vehicle and low temperature control efficiency.
[0072] Based on the same inventive concept, an embodiment of the present invention further provides a vehicle including the temperature adjustment system of the energy storage module described above.
[0073] The technical solutions provided in the embodiments of the present invention have at least the following technical effects or advantages:
[0074] The temperature control system, method, and vehicle for an energy storage module provided by an embodiment of the present invention, on the one hand, provide heaters in the energy storage modules of the fuel tank and the battery pack, so that the heat exchange tubes of the fuel tank and the battery pack are connected through an oil pipeline to form an oil circulation loop. A heater is provided in the oil circulation loop, and the fuel in the fuel tank is used as the coolant to control the temperature of the battery pack, avoiding the use of traditional coolant. The fuel is driven to circulate in the oil circulation loop by the fuel pump in the fuel tank, avoiding the use of a water pump to circulate the coolant in the traditional cooling system, thereby simplifying the weight of the vehicle and achieving a more efficient temperature control strategy. Furthermore, by adopting a multi-segment heating wire arranged along the extension direction of the oil pump, the multi-segment heating wire, the oil level sensor of the fuel tank, and the oil pump are controlled in conjunction with a controller, so that when the battery pack needs to be heated, the oil level sensor sends the oil level data in the fuel tank to the controller, and the controller controls the heater according to the oil level to turn on the heating wire corresponding to the fuel level for heating, thereby achieving graded heating according to the amount of fuel.
