Communication method and device

[0001] This application claims priority to the Chinese patent application filed with the State Intellectual Property Office on August 10, 2023, with application number 202311010644.4 and application name “Communication Method and Device”, the entire contents of which are incorporated by reference into this application. Technical Field

[0002] The embodiments of the present application relate to the field of communications, and in particular to communication methods and devices. Background Art

[0003] In the event exposure (EVEX) data collection framework, the data collection application function (DCAF) can obtain application layer data from user equipment (UE) through a direct data collection client (DDCC) or an indirect data collection client (IDCC). The EVEX data collection framework only defines the specific mechanism for collecting UE application layer data; there is no suitable method for collecting UE access stratum (AS) data.

[0004] Summary of the Invention

[0005] The embodiments of the present application provide a communication method and apparatus that can implement UE AS data collection under the EVEX data collection framework.

[0006] To achieve the above objectives, the present invention adopts the following technical solutions:

[0007] In a first aspect, a communication method is provided, which can be executed by a network device, or by a component of the network device, such as a processor, chip, or chip system of the network device, or by a logic module or software that can realize all or part of the network device functions. The following description takes the method being executed by a network device as an example. The method includes: the network device receives first capability information from a terminal device. The first capability information is used to indicate the data collection capability supported by the access layer AS of the terminal device. The network device receives a first configuration from an application providing entity. The first configuration is used for the terminal device to collect AS data expected by the application providing entity. The network device determines the configuration for AS data collection supported by the terminal device from the first configuration based on the first capability information.

[0008] Based on this communication method, the network device senses the data collection capability supported by the AS of the terminal device, and screens and processes the first configuration issued by the application provider entity for the terminal device to collect the AS data expected by the application provider entity, and filters out the data collection configuration that the terminal device cannot support in the first configuration, so that the data collection capability supported by the AS of the terminal device is adapted to the filtered configuration. This can enhance the network device's control over the collected AS data and related configurations, thereby realizing the collection of AS data, and then the collected AS data can be opened to the application provider entity or other network entities, so that the application provider entity or other network entities can complete related event processing based on the open AS data, thereby realizing the effective use of AS data.

[0009] In one possible design, the network device is an access network device or an access and mobility management network element; the network device receiving a first configuration from an application provisioning entity may include: the network device receiving the first configuration from the application provisioning entity via a data collection application entity. Based on this design, the first configuration issued by the application provisioning entity may be forwarded to the network device by the data collection application entity, so that the network device can filter, from the first configuration, a configuration supported by the terminal device for AS data collection.

[0010] In one possible design, the method provided in an embodiment of the present application may further include: the network device determining, among the data collection capabilities supported by the terminal device's AS, data collection capabilities that can be sent to a data collection application entity or an application providing entity. Based on this design, when the terminal device's AS data collection capabilities are open to a third party (such as a data collection application entity or an application providing entity), the network device can manage and control the AS data collection capabilities of the terminal device open to the third party, thereby improving communication reliability.

[0011] In one possible design, the method provided in an embodiment of the present application may further include: the network device sending first feedback information to the data collection application entity. Based on this design, after the network device completes screening of the first configuration, it may inform the data collection application entity of the screening results through the first feedback information. On the one hand, this enables the data collection application entity to further inform the application providing entity of the screening results, and on the other hand, it enables the data collection application entity to update the first configuration based on the screening results to obtain an AS data collection configuration suitable for the terminal device.

[0012] In one possible design, the method provided in an embodiment of the present application may further include: the network device sending first feedback information to the application providing entity via the data collection application entity. Based on this design, after the network device completes screening of the first configuration, it may notify the application providing entity of the screening results via the data collection application entity, allowing the application providing entity to determine which configurations in the first configuration are executable by the terminal device and which are not executable by the terminal device.

[0013] In one possible design, the network device is a data collection application entity; the method provided in an embodiment of the present application may further include: the network device sending first feedback information to the application provider entity. Based on this design, the data collection application entity, by sensing the data collection capabilities supported by the AS of the terminal device, filters and processes the first configuration issued by the application provider entity for the terminal device to collect the AS data desired by the application provider entity, and notifies the application provider entity of the filtering results.

[0122] To better understand the embodiments of the present application, the following first introduces the system architecture involved in the embodiments of the present application:

[0123] The embodiments of the present application will present various aspects, embodiments, or features around a system that may include multiple devices, components, modules, etc. It should be understood and appreciated that each system may include additional devices, components, modules, etc., and / or may not include all of the devices, components, modules, etc. discussed in conjunction with the figures. Furthermore, combinations of these solutions may also be used.

[0124] The technical solutions of the embodiments of the present application can be applied to various communication systems, such as wireless fidelity (Wi-Fi) systems, vehicle to everything (V2X) communication systems, device-to-device (D2D) communication systems, Internet of Vehicles communication systems, 4th generation (4G) mobile communication systems, such as long term evolution (LTE) systems, world-wide interoperability for microwave access (WiMAX) communication systems, 5th generation (5G) mobile communication systems, such as new radio (NR) systems, and future communication systems, such as 6th generation (6G) mobile communication systems.

[0125] The following describes the related technologies involved in the embodiments of this application.

[0126] 1. EVEX Collection Data Architecture

[0127] The EVEX data collection architecture is used to collect UE application (APP) layer data or non-access layer data, such as media stream data and quality of experience (QoE) metrics. As shown in Figure 1, the EVEX data collection architecture primarily includes the UE, DCAF, and application service provider (ASP). The UE includes a DDCC module and an application layer module. The DDCC module communicates with the application layer module via the R7 interface, and the DDCC module communicates with the DCAF via the R2 interface.

[0128] ASP includes the provisioning application function (PAF) module, the IDCC module and the event consumer AF (ECAF) module. The PAF module communicates with the DCAF through the R1 interface, the IDCC module communicates with the DCAF through the R3 interface, and the ECAF module communicates with the DCAF through the R6 interface.

[0129] The PAF module sends data collection / processing and event exposure configurations to the DCAF via the R1 interface. The DACF can send data collection and reporting configurations to the corresponding entity, which reports the collected data based on the configurations. For example, the data collection and reporting configurations can be sent to the DDCC module via the R2 interface. The UE's application layer module can then be configured to report the collected application layer data. The application layer data collected by the UE's application layer module can be sent to the DCAF directly (e.g., via R7-R2) or indirectly (e.g., via R8-R3). The DCAF processes the collected data based on event identification (ID) requirements and exposes the collected data to subscribers based on the event ID. For example, the ASP or network data analytics function (NWDAF) indicates to the DCAF the event ID corresponding to the data to be collected. The DCAF then sends the collected data based on the event ID to the ASP or NWDAF. Communication between the NWDAF and DCAF occurs via the R5 interface.

[0130] 2. Artificial intelligence (AI)

[0131] AI can be applied to NR to improve network performance and user experience by intelligently collecting and analyzing data. As shown in Figure 2, the AI application framework in NR can include the following modules:

[0132] The data collection module collects and stores data from the next-generation Node-B (gNB), gNB-centralized unit (CU), gNB-distributed unit (DU), UE, or other management entities as a database for AI model training and data analysis and inference. The model training module analyzes the training data provided by the data collection module to generate the optimal AI model. The model inference module uses the AI model to provide reasonable AI-based predictions about network operation or guide network policy adjustments based on the inference data provided by the data collection module. The decision / actor module executes the policy adjustments output by the model inference module and feeds back the network's performance (such as various performance parameters) after the relevant policies are applied to the data collection module for storage.

[0133] Figure 3 is a schematic diagram of another AI application communication framework. Unlike Figure 2, the AI application communication framework shown in Figure 3 includes, in addition to the data collection module, model training module, and model inference module, a model management module and a model storage module, respectively, for managing and storing AI models. Furthermore, in the AI application communication framework shown in Figure 3, the data collected by the data collection module can be used by the module training module, the model inference module, and the model management module.

[0134] Currently, RAN1 is researching the following three use cases for AI technology:

[0135] 1) Channel state information (CSI) feedback enhancement

[0136] 2) Beam management (BM)

[0137] 3) Positioning accuracy enhancements

[0138] In addition, the lifecycle management (LCM) of the AI model is the management of the entire process of the AI model from start to finish. For example, in a communication system, the overall signaling process of the AI model LCM between the UE, RAN and the core network (CN) or operation, administration and maintenance (OAM) (which can be called network management) is shown in Figure 4, including: AI-related capability interaction, data collection for AI model training, AI model training, AI model operation, data collection for AI model reasoning, AI model reasoning, AI model performance feedback / monitoring, AI model switching / update / deactivation / fallback and other processing processes.

[0139] For the above-mentioned AI application scenarios, the input data of the AI model are all AS data. For example, in the CSI compression scenario, the input of the model is the channel state information reference signal (CSI-RS) measurement result, which involves access layer CSI reporting. If the UE's AS data is to be collected based on the EVEX data collection architecture, the ASP needs to send the configuration information for AS data collection based on the UE's AS capabilities. However, UE capabilities such as AS data collection capabilities are usually only reported to the RAN or access and mobility management function (AMF), and the ASP cannot perceive the UE AS data collection capabilities. Therefore, how to use the EVEX data collection architecture to realize the collection of UE's AS data has become an urgent problem to be solved.

[0140] In order to better understand the embodiments of the present application, the following explanations are made before introducing the embodiments of the present application.

[0141] First, in the embodiments of the present application, "used to indicate" can include being used for direct indication and being used for indirect indication. When describing a certain "indication information" as being used to indicate A, it can include the indication information directly indicating A or indirectly indicating A, and does not necessarily mean that the indication information carries A.

[0142] The information indicated by the indication information is called the information to be indicated. In the specific implementation process, there are many ways to indicate the information to be indicated, such as but not limited to, directly indicating the information to be indicated, such as the information to be indicated itself or the index of the information to be indicated. The information to be indicated can also be indirectly indicated by indicating other information, wherein there is an association between the other information and the information to be indicated. It is also possible to indicate only a part of the information to be indicated, while the other parts of the information to be indicated are known or agreed in advance. For example, it is also possible to use the arrangement order of each piece of information agreed in advance (such as specified in the protocol) to achieve the indication of specific information, thereby reducing the indication overhead to a certain extent. At the same time, it is also possible to identify the common parts of each piece of information and indicate them uniformly to reduce the indication overhead caused by indicating the same information separately.

[0143] In addition, the specific indication method can also be various existing indication methods, such as but not limited to the above-mentioned indication methods and various combinations thereof. The specific details of the various indication methods can be referred to the prior art and will not be repeated herein. As can be seen from the above, for example, when it is necessary to indicate multiple information of the same type, there may be a situation where the indication methods for different information are different. In the specific implementation process, the required indication method can be selected according to specific needs. The embodiment of the present application does not limit the selected indication method. In this way, the indication method involved in the embodiment of the present application should be understood to cover various methods that can enable the party to be indicated to obtain the information to be indicated.

[0144] The information to be indicated can be sent as a whole, or divided into multiple sub-information and sent separately, and the sending period and / or sending time of these sub-information can be the same or different. The specific sending method is not limited in this application. Among them, the sending period and / or sending time of these sub-information can be predefined, for example, predefined according to the protocol, or configured by the transmitting device by sending configuration information to the receiving device. Among them, the configuration information can, for example, but not limited to, include one or a combination of at least two of radio resource control (RRC) signaling, medium access control (MAC) layer signaling and physical layer signaling. Among them, MAC layer signaling, for example, includes MAC-control element (CE); physical (PHY) layer signaling, for example, includes DCI.

[0145] Second, in the embodiments of the present application, the first, second, and various numerical numbers are merely distinctions made for ease of description and are not intended to limit the scope of the embodiments of the present application. For example, different indication information is used to distinguish one from another. For another example, the first indication information and the second indication information are merely used to distinguish different areas and do not limit their order of precedence. Those skilled in the art will understand that words such as "first" and "second" do not limit the quantity and order of execution, and words such as "first" and "second" do not necessarily limit them to be different.

[0146] Third, in the embodiments of the present application, descriptions such as "when...", "in the case of...", "if" and "if" all mean that the device (such as a terminal device or a network device) will make corresponding processing under certain objective circumstances. It does not limit the time, and does not require the device (such as a terminal device or a network device) to perform a judgment action when implementing it, nor does it mean that there are other limitations.

[0147] At the same time, in the embodiments of this application, words such as "exemplary" or "for example" are used to indicate examples, illustrations, or descriptions. Any embodiment or design described as "exemplary" or "for example" in the embodiments of this application should not be interpreted as being more preferred or more advantageous than other embodiments or designs. Rather, the use of words such as "exemplary" or "for example" is intended to present the relevant concepts in a concrete manner to facilitate understanding.

[0148] Finally, the network architecture and business scenarios described in the embodiments of this application are intended to more clearly illustrate the technical solutions of the embodiments of this application, and do not constitute a limitation on the technical solutions provided in the embodiments of this application. Ordinary technicians in this field can know that with the evolution of network architecture and the emergence of new business scenarios, the technical solutions provided in the embodiments of this application are also applicable to similar technical problems.

The RU can be included in a radio frequency device or a radio frequency unit, for example, a remote radio unit (RRU), an active antenna unit (AAU) or a remote radio head (RRH). It can be understood that the access network device can be a CU node, a DU node, or a device including a CU node and a DU node. In addition, the CU can be divided into a network device in the access network RAN, or the CU can be divided into a network device in the CN, which is not limited here.

[0156] In different systems, CU (or CU-CP and CU-UP), DU or RU may also have different names, but those skilled in the art can understand their meanings. For example, in an open RAN (open-RAN, O-RAN) system, CU may also be called O-CU (open CU), DU may also be called O-DU, CU-CP may also be called O-CU-CP, CU-UP may also be called O-CU-UP, and RU may also be called O-RU. For the convenience of description, this application uses CU, CU-CP, CU-UP, DU and RU as examples for description. Any unit of CU (or CU-CP, CU-UP), DU and RU in this application can be implemented by a software module, a hardware module, or a combination of a software module and a hardware module.

[0157] The embodiments of this application do not limit the form of the access network device. The device used to implement the functions of the access network device can be the access network device; it can also be a device that supports the access network device to implement the functions, such as a chip system. The device can be installed in the access network device or used in conjunction with the access network device.

[0158] 3. Core network equipment

[0159] A core network device is a device deployed in a core network to provide services for terminal devices. In systems using different wireless access technologies, the names of core network devices with similar wireless communication functions may be different. In an embodiment of the present application, the core network device may be an access and mobility management network element. For example, when the method of an embodiment of the present application is applied to a 5G system, the access and mobility management network element may be an AMF. When the method of an embodiment of the present application is applied to an LTE system, the access and mobility management network element may be a mobility management entity (MME). For the convenience of description only, in an embodiment of the present application, the above-mentioned devices that can provide services for terminal devices are collectively referred to as core network devices.

[0160] 4. Application provider

[0161] The application provisioning entity is deployed at the application layer and is used to provide application services to terminal devices. The application provisioning entity may include a configuration and issuance application module, an indirect data collection module, and an event usage module. The configuration and issuance application module is used to issue data collection configuration information to the terminal device, the indirect data collection module is used to forward the collected data from the terminal device, and the event usage module uses the collected data to complete event processing. In an embodiment of the present application, the application provisioning entity may be an ASP, and accordingly, the configuration and issuance application module may be a PAF, the indirect data collection module may be an IDCC, and the event usage module may be an ECAF.

[0162] 5. Data Collection Application Entity

[0163] The data collection application entity is deployed at the application layer to collect data from the application layer and access layer of the terminal device, and to open the collected data to the access network device, application provider, etc. In the embodiment of the present application, the data collection application entity may be a DCAF.

[0164] In the embodiment of the present application, an AI module may also be deployed on a terminal device, a network device or an application providing entity. The AI module is a module with machine learning computing capabilities. When the AI module is deployed on a communication device or a communication apparatus, the communication device or the communication apparatus may perform the model training, model reasoning and other processing shown in FIG2 or FIG3 based on the AI model. When the method of the embodiment of the present application is applied to a 5G system, as shown in FIG6, the AI module is located in the OAM, or in the RAN device (the separation architecture is located in the CU / DU), or in some terminal devices, or as a separate network element entity RAN intelligent controller (RIC) module. The main function of the AI module in the wireless communication system is to perform a series of AI calculations such as model building, training approximation, and reinforcement learning based on input data (in a wireless communication system, input data generally refers to network operation data provided by the RAN side or monitored by OAM, such as network load, channel quality, etc.). The trained model provided by the AI module has the function of predicting network changes on the RAN side, and can generally be used for load prediction, UE trajectory prediction, CSI prediction, optimal beam prediction, positioning prediction, etc. Furthermore, the AI module can also perform policy reasoning from the perspectives of network energy conservation and mobility optimization based on the trained model's predictions of RAN network performance, thereby developing reasonable and efficient energy conservation and mobility optimization strategies. When the AI module resides in the OAM, its communication with the RAN-side gNB can reuse the current northbound interface. When the AI module resides in the gNB or CU, it can reuse the current F1, Xn, and Uu interfaces. When the AI module becomes a standalone network entity, it needs to re-establish communication links with the OAM and RAN, such as wired or wireless links.

[0165] Furthermore, Figure 7 is a schematic diagram of the architecture of a 5G system applicable to the above-mentioned communication system provided in an embodiment of the present application. As shown in Figure 7, the 5G system includes: terminal equipment, access network (AN) and CN.

[0166] The AN implements access-related functions, providing network access for authorized users in a specific area and determining transmission links of varying quality for user data based on user level and service requirements. The AN forwards control signals and user data between terminal devices and the CN. The AN may include access network equipment, also known as RAN equipment.

[0167] The CN is mainly responsible for maintaining the subscription data of the mobile network and providing functions such as session management, mobility management, policy management, and security authentication for terminal devices. The CN mainly includes the following network elements: user plane function (UPF), authentication server function (AUSF), AMF, session management function (SMF), network slice selection function (NSSF), network exposure function (NEF), network repository function (NRF), policy control function (PCF), unified data management (UDM), unified data repository (UDR), and application function (AF).

[0168] As shown in Figure 7, the terminal device accesses the 5G network through the RAN device, and the terminal device communicates with the AMF through the N1 interface (referred to as N1); the RAN device communicates with the AMF through the N2 interface (referred to as N2); the RAN device communicates with the UPF through the N3 interface (referred to as N3); the SMF communicates with the UPF through the N4 interface (referred to as N4), and the UPF accesses the data network (DN) through the N6 interface (referred to as N6).

[0169] It should be understood that the names of nodes, modules, devices or network elements in different scenarios or architectures or systems, as well as the names of communication interfaces between nodes, modules, devices or network elements are given as examples in the embodiments of the present application, and the possibility of name changes in future communication systems, scenarios or architectures is not excluded.

[0170] The communication method provided in the embodiment of the present application will be described in detail below with reference to Figures 8-11.

[0171] For example, Figure 8 is a flow chart of a communication method provided in an embodiment of the present application. The communication method can be used for communication between a terminal device and a network device.

[0172] In an embodiment of the present application, the terminal device that executes the method embodiment may be the terminal device itself, or a component of the terminal device, such as a processor, chip, or chip system of the terminal device, or a logic module or software implementation that implements all or part of the terminal device-related functions. The following method embodiment is described by taking the terminal device execution as an example. In an embodiment of the present application, the network device that executes the method embodiment may be the network device itself, or a component of the network device, such as a processor, chip, or chip system of the network device, or a logic module or software implementation that implements all or part of the network device-related functions. The following method embodiment is described by taking the network device execution as an example. As shown in Figure 8, the communication method includes the following steps:

[0173] S801: A terminal device sends first capability information to a network device. Correspondingly, the network device receives the first capability information from the terminal device.

[0174] The first capability information is used to indicate the data collection capabilities supported by the AS of the terminal device (which may be referred to as AS data collection capabilities). In an embodiment of the present application, the first capability information reported by the terminal device may include all data collection capabilities possessed or supported by the AS of the terminal device, or may include some data collection capabilities possessed or supported by the AS of the terminal device. The specific data collection capabilities reported are related to the application scenario, the object for obtaining the data collection capabilities, etc.

[0175] AS data collection capabilities include whether it supports sending AS data to the terminal device's application layer. Specifically, whether the terminal device's AS supports sending AS data to the terminal device's application layer (APP layer). Typically, the terminal device's AS and APP can negotiate to confirm that the terminal device's AS can send data to the terminal device's APP, or they can default to allowing AS data transmission between the terminal device's AS and APP.

[0176] On this basis, the AS data collection capability may also include at least one of the following: the type of AS data supported to be sent to the application layer of the terminal device, the format of the AS data supported, or the object supported to obtain AS data. Among them, the type of AS data supported to be sent to the application layer of the terminal device may refer to: the AS of the terminal device supports sending AS data in one or more application scenarios (such as CSI feedback enhancement, beam management, or AI application scenarios such as positioning accuracy enhancement) to the application layer of the terminal device, or the AS of the terminal device supports sending which types of AS data to the application layer of the terminal device, etc. The object supported to obtain AS data may refer to: the object supported to open AS data, or the object supported to receive AS data, such as supporting the direct data collection module of the terminal device (such as the DDCC in Figure 1) to receive and send AS data, supporting the indirect data collection module of the application providing entity (such as the IDCC in Figure 1) to receive and send AS data, supporting data collection application entity or application providing entity to obtain AS data, etc. It should be understood that the above examples give the data collection capabilities supported by the AS of several terminal devices, and the embodiments of the present application are not limited to this.

[0177] In an embodiment of the present application, AS data may include but is not limited to the following: channel measurement data, layer (L) 1-reference signal receiving power (RSRP), positioning reference signal (PRS) measurement data, sounding reference signal (SRS) measurement data, channel impulse response (CIR) / channel frequency response (CFR) data, channel power delay profile (PDP), model performance monitoring index data, or label data. Exemplarily, the channel measurement data includes at least one of some channel measurement raw data or processed data, such as the original channel matrix based on CSI-RS measurement, or the eigenvector data after decomposing the original channel matrix. Exemplarily, the model performance monitoring index data includes one or more of the channel prediction accuracy, Top-k beam prediction accuracy, positioning accuracy, and line of sight (LOS) / non-line of sight (NLOS) recognition accuracy. Exemplarily, the tag data includes one or more of a channel true value, an optimal beam true value, a terminal device position true value, and a LOS / NOLS state true value.

[0178] In one possible design, the network device may be an access network device or an access and mobility management network element. For example, the access network device may be the RAN device in FIG. 7 , and the access and mobility management network element may be the AMF in FIG. 7 . When the network device is an access and mobility management network element, the terminal device may send the first capability information to the access and mobility management network element via the access network device or directly to the access and mobility management network element, without limitation.

[0179] In one possible design scheme, the network device may be a data collection application entity. For example, the data collection application entity is the DCAF in Figure 1 above. In this design scheme, the first capability information is based on the authentication of the access network device or the access and mobility management network element. That is to say, when the terminal device sends data collection capability information to the data collection application entity, the access network device or the access and mobility management network element can manage and control the data collection capability information that the terminal device opens or exposes to the data collection application entity, such as whether the AS data collection capability of the terminal device can be opened to the data collection application entity, and which AS data collection capabilities can be opened to the data collection application entity, etc.

[0180] In one possible implementation, the access network device or the access and mobility management network element can determine the data collection capabilities supported by the AS of the terminal device that can be sent to the data collection application entity or the application providing entity. For example, when the access network device or the access and mobility management network element forwards the AS data collection capabilities reported by the terminal device to the data collection application entity, the AS data collection capabilities are filtered based on a preconfigured policy before being sent to the data collection application entity. In this case, the first capability information received by the data collection application entity is the first capability information after screening and processing by the access network device or the access and mobility management network element, that is, the received first capability information may be different from the first capability information sent by the terminal device. Alternatively, the access network device or the access and mobility management network element can negotiate with the terminal device to determine which AS data collection capabilities can be opened to the data collection application entity, and there is no limitation on this.

[0181] S802: The application providing entity sends a first configuration to the network device. Correspondingly, the network device receives the first configuration from the application providing entity.

[0182] Among them, the first configuration is used for the terminal device to collect the AS data expected by the application providing entity. In an embodiment of the present application, the application providing entity configures the terminal device to collect the AS data expected by the application providing entity by issuing the first configuration. In a possible design scheme, the first configuration may include an event (event) associated with the expected AS data, an event identifier (event ID), the type of expected AS data, etc. Among them, the event associated with the expected AS data is used to indicate the use or purpose of the expected AS data, such as for CSI feedback enhancement and beam management; the event identifier is used to identify the event associated with the expected AS data. The above examples give several parameters configured in the first configuration. In addition, other parameters related to AS data collection can also be configured in the first configuration, such as the data processing method of the expected AS data, the objects to which the expected AS data can be opened / exposed, the period for collecting AS data, etc., and there is no limitation on this.

[0183] For example, the format of the first configuration is as follows:

[0184] Event: xxx, such as event 1

[0185] Event ID: xxx, such as ID1

[0186] External / Internal Application Identification: xxx

[0187] Data access configuration file:

[0188] >Data processing instructions: xxx, such as instructions for performing singular value decomposition (SVD) processing on the original channel matrix measured based on CSI-RS.

[0189] >Data openness restriction: xxx, such as AS data can only be opened to application providing entities

[0190] Parameters to be collected (AS data expected to be collected): xx, such as the eigenvector after decomposition of the original channel matrix, L1-RSRP, reference signal received quality (RSRQ), and signal to interference plus noise ratio (SINR)

[0191] …

[0192] Among them, the data access configuration file includes data processing instructions and data open restrictions. The data processing instructions are used to indicate what kind of processing is used to obtain the expected AS data. For example, the expected AS data includes the eigenvectors after decomposition of the original channel matrix. The eigenvectors after decomposition of the original channel matrix are configured through the data processing instructions to be obtained based on singular value decomposition (SVD). The data open restrictions are used to configure the objects to which the collected expected AS data can be opened. For example, the expected AS data collected by the terminal device can only be opened to the application providing entity.

[0193] When the network device is an access network device or an access and mobility management network element, the network device may receive the first configuration from the application providing entity through the data collection application entity. That is, the first configuration sent by the application providing entity is forwarded to the network device by the data collection application entity.

[0194] It should be understood that the embodiment of the present application does not limit the execution order of S801 and S802. S801 and S802 can be executed simultaneously, or S801 can be executed first or S802 can be executed first. There is no limitation on this.

[0195] S803: The network device determines, from the first configuration according to the first capability information, a configuration for AS data collection supported by the terminal device.

[0196] In an embodiment of the present application, after obtaining the first capability information and the first configuration, the network device screens or filters the first configuration according to the first capability information to determine which of the first configurations are configurations that the terminal device can support / execute / accept for AS data collection.

[0197] Exemplarily, the AS data collection capability of the terminal device includes: supporting sending RSRP, SINR, PRS / SRS measurement data to the application layer of the terminal device, and supporting opening AS data to application providing entities and network analysis network elements (such as NWDAF in Figure 7 above). For the first configuration, please refer to the example in S802 above. The network device can determine based on the first capability information that the terminal device does not support the collection of eigenvectors and RSRQ after decomposition of the original channel matrix, but supports the collection of L1-RSRP and SINR.

[0198] When the network device is an access network device or an access and mobility management network element, after determining the configurations for AS data collection supported by the terminal device in the first configuration, the network device may send first feedback information to the data collection application entity. Correspondingly, the data collection application entity receives the first feedback information from the network device. The first feedback information is used to provide feedback on the configurations supported by the terminal device in the first configuration, such as which configurations in the first configuration the terminal device supports and which configurations the terminal device does not support.

[0199] In one possible scenario, the first feedback information is used to indicate some or all of the configurations supported by the terminal device in the first configuration. That is, the network device can use the first feedback information to provide feedback on whether the terminal device supports all or some of the configurations in the first configuration. For example, the first feedback information is indicated by one bit. When the bit value is 1, it indicates that the terminal device supports all of the configurations in the first configuration. When the bit value is 0, it indicates that the terminal device supports some of the configurations in the first configuration.

[0200] In another possible scenario, the network device can feed back to the data collection application entity through the first feedback information which specific configurations in the first configuration are supported by the terminal device, and which configurations are not supported by the terminal device. The first feedback information may include at least one of the following: the configuration for AS data collection supported by the terminal device, the configuration for AS data collection not supported by the terminal device, or the reason why the terminal device does not support the configuration for AS data. Continuing with the above example, the first feedback information may include that the terminal device does not support the collection of eigenvectors and RSRQ after decomposition of the original channel matrix, wherein the reason for not supporting the collection of eigenvectors after decomposition of the original channel matrix is that the AI model on the terminal device side only accepts the original channel data as input data for model training / inference, and does not support the eigenvectors after SVD decomposition as input data for model training / inference, and the reason for not supporting the collection of RSRQ is that the terminal device does not have the ability to measure RSRQ, and supports the collection of L1-RSRP and SINR.

[0201] Thus, the data collection application entity can determine the configuration supported by the terminal device in the first configuration based on the received first feedback information, and thus update the first configuration based on the first feedback information, such as deleting the configuration not supported by the terminal device in the first configuration, or adding the configuration supported by the terminal device to obtain the second configuration. Among them, all configurations in the second configuration are supported by the terminal device. Furthermore, the data collection application entity sends the second configuration to the terminal device, and accordingly, the terminal device receives the second configuration from the data collection application entity, so that the terminal device can complete the collection of corresponding AS data according to the second configuration. Exemplarily, the second configuration includes the following configurations, wherein the terminal device is configured to obtain the collected L1-RSRP and SINR based on the measurement of CSI-RS, and the terminal device is configured to collect L1-RSRP and SINR with a period of 100 milliseconds (millisecond, ms):

[0202] Event: Event 1

[0203] Event ID: ID1

[0204] External / Internal Application Identification: xxx

[0205] Parameters to be collected (AS data expected to be collected): L1-RSRP, SINR

[0206] Reference signal: CSI-RS

[0207] Collection cycle: 100ms

[0208] …

[0209] In this case, in a possible design scheme, after the data collection application entity receives the first feedback information, the data collection application entity may further send the first feedback information to the application providing entity. Accordingly, the application providing entity receives the first feedback information from the data collection application entity so that the application providing entity can determine which configurations of the configurations it has issued can be executed by the terminal device. Specifically, the data collection application entity can send the first feedback information directly to the event usage module of the application providing entity (such as the ECAF in Figure 1). At this time, the network device forwards the first feedback information to the application providing entity through the data collection application entity.

[0210] In a possible scenario, the network device may also directly send the first feedback information to the application providing entity. Specifically, the network device directly sends the first feedback information to the event using module of the application providing entity.

[0211] When the network device is a data collection application entity, the network device directly updates the first configuration based on the configuration for AS data collection supported by the terminal device in the first configuration to obtain a second configuration, and sends the second configuration to the terminal device. Alternatively, the network device updates the first configuration based on the data collection capabilities supported by the terminal device's AS to obtain a configuration that matches the terminal device's capabilities (i.e., the second configuration).

[0212] Based on the above solution, it can be seen that the update of the first configuration is performed by the data collection application entity, and the data collection application entity sends the second configuration (the updated first configuration) to the terminal device.

[0213] In one possible design scheme, the data collection application entity can directly send the second configuration to the terminal device, and accordingly, the terminal device receives the second configuration from the data collection application entity. Specifically, the data collection application entity sends the second configuration to the direct data collection module of the terminal device. After receiving the second configuration, the direct data collection module sends the second configuration to the application layer of the terminal device, and then the application layer of the terminal device sends the second configuration to the AS of the terminal device, so that the AS of the terminal device collects the AS data expected by the application providing entity according to the second configuration. Accordingly, after the AS of the terminal device completes the collection of the AS data expected by the application providing entity, it can send the AS data to the data collection application entity through the application layer and the direct data collection module of the terminal device, and then the data collection application entity opens the collected AS data to the application providing entity or other entities (such as network analysis network elements).

[0214] In another possible design scheme, the data collection application entity may send the second configuration to the terminal device through the application providing entity. That is to say, the second configuration may be forwarded to the terminal device through the application providing entity. Specifically, the data collection application entity sends the second configuration to the non-direct data collection module of the application providing entity, and then the non-direct data collection module sends the second configuration to the AS of the terminal device, so that the AS of the terminal device collects the AS data expected by the application providing entity according to the second configuration. Accordingly, after the AS of the terminal device sends the collected AS data to the application layer, it can send the AS data to the data collection application entity or other entities through the non-direct data collection module of the application providing entity. The specific implementation process can be seen in the method embodiment shown in Figure 9 below, which will not be described in detail here.

[0215] In an embodiment of the present application, after the data collection application entity obtains the AS data reported by the terminal device, it opens the collected AS data to other entities based on the event open subscription process, such as a network analysis network element or an application provider entity initiates an event open subscription request to the data collection application entity, and the event open subscription request carries an event identifier associated with the AS data to be obtained. After the data collection application entity obtains the AS data associated with the corresponding event, it sends the AS data associated with the event to the network analysis network element or the application provider entity.

[0216] Based on the communication method shown in Figure 8, the network device senses the data collection capability supported by the AS of the terminal device, and screens and processes the AS data collection configuration (such as the first configuration) sent to the terminal device by the application provider entity, and filters out the data collection configuration that the terminal device cannot support in the first configuration, so that the data collection capability supported by the AS of the terminal device is adapted to the sent configuration, thereby enhancing the network device's control over the collected AS data and related configurations, thereby realizing the collection of AS data, and then the collected AS data can be opened to the application provider entity or other network entities, so that the application provider entity or other network entities can complete related event processing based on the open AS data, thereby realizing the effective use of AS data.

[0217] It should be understood that in the embodiment of the present application, the terminal device collecting AS data may include measuring AS data and performing relevant processing on the measured AS data, and there is no limitation on this.

[0218] For ease of understanding, the specific implementation process of the communication method shown in Figure 8 is described in detail below in conjunction with the EVEX architecture shown in Figure 1 and the 5G system shown in Figure 7. For example, the communication method provided in the embodiment of the present application is described in detail, taking the terminal device as a UE, the network device as a RAN device, the application provision entity as an ASP, and the data collection application entity as a DCAF as an example.

[0219] As shown in FIG9 , the communication method includes the following steps:

[0220] S900, APP and AS negotiate on AS data collection.

[0221] For example, the APP in the UE and the AS confirm through negotiation that the AS can send data to the APP, and the APP confirms that the data collected by the AS can be packaged and sent to the DCAF using the EVEX framework.

[0222] S901: An AS sends first capability information to a RAN device. Correspondingly, the RAN device receives the first capability information from the AS.

[0223] The first capability information may be specifically described in S801 above and will not be described in detail here. For example, the first capability information includes that the AS supports sending AS data to the APP, and the supported AS data types include L1-RSRP and SINR.

[0224] Before executing S902, in the embodiment of the present application, processes such as application function registration (AF registration) and DCAF discovery (discover DCAF) may also be executed. Application function registration mainly involves the interaction between network elements or functions or modules such as NRF, DCAF, and NWDAF. DCAF discovery mainly involves the interaction between network elements or functions or modules such as NRF and PAF. For the specific implementation process, please refer to the relevant description in the existing implementation method, which will not be described in detail. Among them, processes such as application function registration and DCAF discovery can be executed before or after S901 or simultaneously with S901, without limitation.

[0225] S902: The PAF sends a first configuration to the DCAF. Correspondingly, the DCAF receives the first configuration from the PAF.

[0226] The first configuration is used by the UE to collect AS data expected by the ASP. The first configuration can be carried in a data reporting configuration (Ndcad_DataReportingProvisioning) message and sent to the DCAF via the R1 interface. A detailed description of the first configuration can be found in the relevant description in S802 above and will not be repeated here. For example, the first configuration includes that the ASP expects the UE to collect L1-RSRP and RSRQ, the event associated with L1-RSRP and RSRQ is Event 1, and the event identifier of Event 1 is ID1.

[0227] It should be understood that the PAF can send a configuration to the DCAF through the R1 interface to assume that the DCAF / ASP is in a trust domain. If the DCAF / ASP is outside the trust domain, authentication and authorization must be performed through the NEF.

[0228] S903: The DCAF sends a first configuration to the RAN device. Correspondingly, the RAN device receives the first configuration from the DCAF.

[0229] S904: The RAN device determines, from the first configuration according to the first capability information, a configuration for AS data collection supported by the UE.

[0230] For example, the RAN device can determine, based on the first capability information, that the AS supports sending AS data to the APP, and the types of supported AS data include L1-RSRP and SINR, while in the first configuration, the ASP expects the UE to collect L1-RSRP and RSRQ. Therefore, the RAN device can determine that the UE does not support the collection of RSRQ, and thus can determine that the configuration for AS data collection supported by the UE in the first configuration includes support for collecting L1-RSRP.

[0231] S905: The RAN device sends first feedback information to the DCAF. Correspondingly, the DCAF receives the first feedback information from the RAN device.

[0232] Exemplarily, after executing S904, the RAN device uses the first feedback information to feedback which configurations in the first configuration are executable by the UE and which configurations are not executable by the UE, such as the first feedback information includes the configuration that the UE supports collecting L1-RSRP but does not support collecting RSRQ.

[0233] S906: The DCAF sends the second configuration to the DDCC. Correspondingly, the DDCC receives the second configuration from the DACF.

[0234] The second configuration is obtained by updating the first feedback information. Exemplarily, after receiving the first feedback information, the DCAF updates the first configuration based on the first feedback information, such as deleting the configuration of AS data not supported by the UE in the first configuration, and obtaining a second configuration, where the second configuration is a configuration for AS data collection supported by the UE, such as the second configuration including that the ASP expects the UE to collect L1-RSRP, the event associated with the L1-RSRP is event 1, and the event identifier of event 1 is ID1.

[0235] S907: DDCC sends the second configuration to APP. Correspondingly, APP receives the second configuration from DDCC.

[0236] S908: The APP sends the second configuration to the AS. Correspondingly, the AS receives the second configuration from the APP.

[0237] Based on the above steps S907 to S908, the AS in the UE obtains the second configuration from the DCAF via the DDCC and the APP, and collects the AS data (such as L1-RSRP) according to the second configuration. Furthermore, after collecting the AS data, the AS can send the collected AS data to the DCAF via the APP and the DDCC.

[0238] In one possible design, the DDCC can also send the collected AS data to the RAN device by calling the data reporting service (Ndcaf_DataReporting service), which then sends it to the DCAF. Alternatively, after receiving the AS data from the AS, the APP sends it to the IDCC in the ASP via the R8 interface, and the IDCC then sends the AS data to the DCAF via the R3 interface.

[0239] Therefore, DCAF can obtain the AS data associated with different events based on the above process, and can make the collected AS data of different events available to other entities, functions, or modules based on the event exposure subscription process, such as ECAF, NEF, NWDAF, etc. in ASP. For example, ECAF subscribes to the AS data related to event 1 from DCAF. Then, DCAF sends the AS data related to event 1 to ECAF based on the identifier of event 1, so that ECAF completes event 1 based on the AS data related to event 1.

[0240] Based on the communication method shown in Figure 9, the RAN device senses the AS data collection capability of the UE, and filters the AS data collection configuration issued by the ASP based on the AS data collection capability of the UE, providing the UE with a suitable configuration to implement AS data reporting.

[0241] In addition, an embodiment of the present application also provides a communication method, in which the network device does not filter the AS data collection configuration sent by the application providing entity, but matches the AS data collection configuration sent by the application providing entity based on the AS data collection capabilities of different terminal devices, and sends the AS data collection configuration suitable for each terminal device to the terminal device to perform AS data collection. Exemplarily, as shown in Figure 10, taking the network device as an access network device (such as a RAN device) or an access and mobility management network element (such as an AMF) as an example, the communication method includes the following steps:

[0242] S1001: A first terminal device sends first capability information to a network device. Correspondingly, the network device receives the first capability information from the first terminal device.

[0243] Among them, the first capability information is used to indicate the data collection capability supported by the AS of the first terminal device. For the relevant description of the first capability information, please refer to the relevant description in the above S801 and will not be repeated here. For example, the first capability information of the first terminal device indicates that the AS of the first terminal device only supports the collection of L1-RSRP. The first capability information corresponding to different terminal devices is different. For example, the first capability information of the second terminal device indicates that the AS of the second terminal device only supports the collection of channel impulse response.

[0244] S1002: The application providing entity sends one or more configuration groups to the network device. Correspondingly, the network device receives one or more configuration groups from the application providing entity.

[0245] Among them, each group of configurations in one or more groups of configurations can be used by the terminal device to collect the AS data expected by the application providing entity, and the AS data expected to be collected configured in one or more groups of configurations are different. For example, the application providing entity sends three groups of configurations to the network device, configuration 1 is used to configure the terminal device to collect L1-RSRP, configuration 2 is used to configure the terminal device to collect channel impulse response, and configuration 3 is used to configure the terminal device to collect LOS / NLOS tag data. In an embodiment of the present application, in addition to including the AS data expected to be collected, each group of configurations may also include event information associated with the AS data expected to be collected, etc. For a specific description, please refer to the relevant description of the first configuration in S802 above, which will not be repeated here. Exemplarily, the application providing entity is the ASP in Figure 1 above, and one or more groups of configurations can be sent by the PAF in the ASP.

[0246] It should be understood that among the multiple groups of configurations, there may be at least two groups of configurations that include partially identical configurations, such as configuration 1 is used to configure the terminal device to collect L1-RSRP and RSRQ, and configuration 2 is used to configure the terminal device to collect L1-RSRP and SINR, and the configurations for collecting L1-RSRP in configuration 1 and configuration 2 are the same.

[0247] In one possible design, the application provider sends one or more configurations to the network device via the data collection application entity. In other words, the configurations sent by the application provider are forwarded to the network device via the data collection application entity. For example, the data collection application entity is the DCAF in Figure 1 above.

[0248] S1003: The network device determines a second configuration from one or more groups of configurations according to the first capability information.

[0249] The second configuration is a configuration for AS data collection supported by the first terminal device. Exemplarily, the network device determines, based on the first capability information, that the first terminal device only supports L1-RSRP collection. Referring to the example in S1002 above, the network device may determine that configuration 1 matches the AS data collection capability of the first terminal device, thereby determining configuration 1 as the second configuration. It should be understood that the AS data collection capability of the first terminal device may match one or more groups of configurations.

[0250] S1004: The network device sends a second configuration to the first terminal device. Correspondingly, the first terminal device receives the second configuration from the network device.

[0251] In one possible design solution, the network device sends the second configuration to the first terminal device through the data collection application entity.

[0252] In an embodiment of the present application, after receiving the second configuration, the first terminal device collects AS data according to the second configuration, and sends the collected AS data to the data collection application entity. For example, after the first terminal device collects L1-RSRP, it reports L1-RSRP to the data collection application entity. The AS data reporting process of the first terminal device and the process of how the data collection application entity opens the AS data to other entities after obtaining it can be found in the relevant description in S803 or S908 above, and will not be repeated here.

[0253] Furthermore, the communication method provided in the embodiment of the present application may further include the following steps:

[0254] S1005: The network device sends second feedback information to the data collection application entity. Correspondingly, the data collection application entity receives the second feedback information from the network device.

[0255] The second feedback information is used to indicate the AS data collection status corresponding to the configurations executed by the terminal device in one or more configuration groups. In other words, the network device uses the second feedback information to feedback which configurations in the one or more configuration groups are executed by the terminal device, that is, which AS data the terminal device has completed based on which configurations.

[0256] In an embodiment of the present application, the second feedback information may include at least one of the following: AS data that has been collected, AS data that has not been collected, or the reason for the incomplete collection of AS data. For example, in the three groups of configurations (configurations 1 to 3) issued by the application providing entity, the first terminal device completed the collection of L1-RSRP based on configuration 1, the second terminal device completed the collection of channel impulse response based on configuration 2, and configuration 3 was not matched to a terminal device with the required capabilities for execution. Thus, the network device can determine that the AS data that has been collected include L1-RSRP and channel impulse response, and the AS data that has not been collected include LOS / NLOS tag data. The reason for the incomplete collection of LOS / NLOS tag data is that there is no terminal device that supports LOS / NLOS tag data collection among the terminal devices that report the AS data collection capability, and thus inform the data collection application entity through the second feedback information.

[0257] S1006: The data collection application entity sends second feedback information to the application providing entity. Correspondingly, the application providing entity receives the second feedback information from the data collection application entity.

[0258] Specifically, the data collection application entity informs the application providing entity of the execution status of the AS data collection configuration issued by it through the second feedback information.

[0259] Based on the communication method shown in Figure 10, the network device matches the configuration that can be executed based on the capabilities of the terminal device from one or more groups of configurations issued by the application providing entity according to the AS data collection capabilities reported by the terminal device, and sends it to the terminal device to complete the collection of AS data.

[0260] In the communication methods shown in Figures 8 to 10 above, an access network device (such as a RAN device), an access and mobility management network element (such as an AMF), or a data collection application entity (such as a DCAF) can sense the AS data collection capability of a terminal device and match or filter an appropriate AS data collection configuration for the terminal device, thereby enabling AS data collection. Additionally, an application provisioning entity can sense or obtain the AS data collection capability of a terminal device and directly deliver a matching configuration to the terminal device based on the terminal device's AS data collection capability, thereby enabling AS data collection.

[0261] For example, FIG11 is a flow chart of another communication method provided in an embodiment of the present application. As shown in FIG11 , the communication method includes the following steps:

[0262] S1101: A terminal device sends first capability information to an application providing entity. Correspondingly, the application providing entity receives the first capability information from the terminal device.

[0263] The first capability information is used to indicate the data collection capability supported by the AS of the terminal device. In this case, the data collection capability supported by the AS reported by the terminal device may be all or part of the data collection capability supported by the AS of the terminal device.

[0264] In one possible design, before executing S1101, the AS data collection capabilities reported by the terminal device must be authenticated by a network device (e.g., an access network device or an access and mobility management network element). In other words, the network device can manage the data collection capabilities of the terminal device that are exposed to the application provider, such as whether the AS data collection capabilities of the terminal device can be exposed to the application provider, and which AS data collection capabilities can be exposed to the application provider.

[0265] In one possible implementation, the network device may negotiate with the terminal device to determine which AS data collection capabilities are available to the application provisioning entity. In this case, the first capability information reported by the terminal device is authenticated. Alternatively, when forwarding the first capability information to the application provisioning entity, the network device filters the AS data collection capabilities based on a preconfigured policy before sending it to the application provisioning entity. In this case, the first capability information received by the application provisioning entity is the first capability information filtered and processed by the network device. That is, the received first capability information may differ from the first capability information sent by the terminal device.

[0266] In a possible design scheme, the terminal device can send the first capability information to the application providing entity through the network device and the data collection application entity in sequence.

[0267] Optionally, the terminal device may also send its application layer related capability information to the application providing entity, such as the capability of supporting application layer encapsulation of data collected by the AS.

[0268] S1102. The application providing entity determines a second configuration according to the first capability information.

[0269] Among them, the second configuration is a configuration for AS data collection supported by the terminal device. Exemplarily, after the application providing entity receives the first capability information, it can directly customize the configuration information for it according to the AS data collection capability supported by the terminal device, that is, the second configuration, so that the configuration issued matches the data collection capability of the terminal device. For example, the terminal device supports the collection of L1-RSRP and RSRQ, but does not support the collection of channel impulse response, then the second configuration can configure the terminal device to collect L1-RSRP and / or RSRQ. Exemplarily, the application providing entity is the ASP in Figure 1 above, and the second configuration can be configured and issued by the PAF in the ASP.

[0270] S1103: The application providing entity sends a second configuration to the terminal device. Correspondingly, the terminal device receives the second configuration from the application providing entity.

[0271] For example, the application providing entity may forward the second configuration to the terminal device via the data collection application entity. Thus, the terminal device can complete the collection of corresponding AS data based on the second configuration. The process of issuing the second configuration and reporting AS data can be found in the relevant descriptions in S803 or S906-S908 above and will not be repeated here.

[0272] Based on the communication method shown in FIG11 , the application providing entity can directly configure a suitable AS data collection configuration for the terminal device by sensing the AS data collection capability of the terminal device, thereby realizing the collection of AS data.
