Abstract
Description
[0001] Method and device for producing a dental restoration and use
[0002] The invention relates to a method for producing a dental restoration from at least one material of a first material type.
[0003] Furthermore, the invention is directed to a device for producing a dental restoration from at least one material of a first material type.
[0004] Furthermore, the invention relates to a use of exclusively a first starting material of a first material type and a second starting material of the first material type.
[0005] Dental restorations, such as replacement teeth, partial, or full dentures, are designed to replicate natural teeth and / or gums as faithfully as possible. This means that dental restorations should be as indistinguishable from natural teeth and gums as possible. Dental restorations should therefore have a lifelike appearance. However, since natural teeth and gums exhibit uneven color distribution (i.e., at least two sections of different colors), uneven color brightness distribution (i.e., at least two sections of different color brightness), and uneven opacity distribution (i.e., at least two sections of different opacity), the fabrication of dental restorations is typically complex. This applies both to variants in which a dental restoration is manufactured from a blank using a milling operation and to variants in which the dental restoration is produced using an additive manufacturing process. Thus, there is a conflict of objectives between the naturalness of the dental restoration and its simplicity.
[0006] The object of the invention is to resolve or at least mitigate this conflict of objectives.
[0007] The object is achieved by a method for producing a dental restoration from at least one material of a first material type. A region of the dental restoration made of the material of the first material type has at least two sections of different colors and at least two sections of different color brightness. The method comprises:
[0008] - Providing a first starting material of the first material type, wherein the first starting material has a first color, a first color brightness and a first opacity,
[0009] - providing a second starting material of the first material type, wherein the second starting material has a second color, a second color brightness and a second opacity, and
[0010] - Building up the region of the dental restoration from the material of the first material type by spatially arranging a plurality of volume segments, wherein each volume segment is formed exclusively from one or more selected from the first starting material and the second starting material.
[0011] In this context, the material of the first material type can be a tooth replacement material or a gum replacement material. A volume segment of the dental restoration is understood to be a volume segment that is very small compared to the external dimensions of the dental restoration. The volume segment is therefore also very small compared to any macro sections of the dental restoration that may be replicated, such as the incisal part of the tooth, dentin nucleus, neck of the tooth, or gum base. The volume segment can also be referred to as a voxel. The voxel, for example, has a length, a width, and a height of 50 micrometers each. The fact that each volume segment is formed exclusively from one or more selected from the first starting material and the second starting material includes three alternatives. According to a first alternative, a volume segment is formed exclusively from the first starting material.According to a second alternative, a volume segment is formed exclusively from the second starting material. According to a third alternative, a volume segment is formed exclusively from the first starting material and the second starting material. In the third alternative, it can also be said that the volume segment is formed exclusively from a mixture of the first starting material and the second starting material. In the context of the present invention, such a mixture is understood, on the one hand, to be an actual, physical mixture of the starting materials. On the other hand, such a mixture is also understood to be an arrangement of starting materials in which the starting materials are not physically mixed, but the arrangement of the starting materials takes place on a scale that is so small that the human eye cannot distinguish, i.e. resolve, the individual starting materials. In this case, the human eye perceives a mixture even though it is not actually present. This effect is utilized by techniques such as half-toning and dithering. The fact that the dental restoration has at least two sections of different colors and at least two sections of different color brightness gives the dental restoration a natural appearance. It is understood that sections of different colors and sections of different color brightness can be separate from one another, partially overlap, or completely overlap. According to the invention, this can be achieved using only two starting materials, i.e. the first starting material and the second starting material. Further starting materials are neither required nor used. For this reason, the method according to the invention is comparatively simple. Thus, using the method according to the invention, a lifelike dental restoration can be produced with little effort. The first color and the second color can basically be the same or different. Furthermore, the first color and the second color can be described, for example, by a color model or a color theory. In this context, the first color and the second color can be described in an RGB color space, i.e. a color space defined by the colors red (R), green (G), and blue (B). Alternatively, the first color and the second color can be described in a CMYK color space, i.e. a color space defined by a blue color (cyan - C), a red color (magenta - M), a yellow color (yellow - Y), and black (key - K). In this context, a color space can also be more generally referred to as a color range. A color range can have one or more dimensions. It is also possible to define the first color and the second color in a color spectrum, i.e. via an associated optical wavelength or frequency. Furthermore, it is possible to describe the first color and the second color via a Lab color model, i.e. via a brightness value (L value), an a-color value along an axis defined by the colors green and red, and a b-color value along an axis defined by the colors yellow and blue. In a preferred embodiment, the first color and the second color are different. The dental restoration, or more precisely the region of the dental restoration made of the material of the first material type, can therefore have the first color or the second color or a mixed color generated from the first color and the second color, at least in sections. In other words, the dental restoration, or more precisely the area of the dental restoration made of the first type of material, can have any color resulting from a mixing ratio of the first color and the second color. The mixtures of the first color and the second color thus define a color range.
[0012] The first color brightness and the second color brightness can also be fundamentally the same or different. In a preferred embodiment, the first color brightness and the second color brightness are different. The dental restoration, or more precisely the area of the dental restoration made of the material of the first material type, can therefore, at least in sections, have the first color brightness or the second color brightness or a mixed color brightness generated from the first color brightness and the second color brightness. In other words, the dental restoration, or more precisely the area of the dental restoration made of the material of the first material type, can have any color brightness that lies within a color brightness range defined by the first color brightness and the second color brightness.
[0013] Likewise, the first opacity and the second opacity can basically be the same or different. If the first opacity and the second opacity are the same, the color and the color brightness can be adjusted by mixing the first starting material and the second starting material, whereby the opacity remains the same regardless of the mixing ratio. In a case where the first opacity and the second opacity are different, the opacity of the dental restoration, more precisely the opacity of the area of the dental restoration made of the material of the first type of material, can be adjusted by mixing the first starting material and the second starting material. In other words, the dental restoration, more precisely the area of the dental restoration made of the material of the first type of material, can have any opacity that lies within an opacity range defined by the first opacity and the second opacity.
[0014] It should be noted that the term opacity is reciprocal to the term translucency and, for the sake of simplicity, the term opacity is predominantly used here.
[0015] The present invention is based on the discovery that, despite the fact that natural teeth and natural gums have an uneven color distribution, i.e. at least two sections of different color, which is to be simulated in a dental restoration, a limited color range or color space is sufficient to achieve a natural appearance of the dental restoration. It was therefore discovered that, in order to produce a lifelike dental restoration, it is not necessary to be able to set any desired color and thus any desired color distribution, but that it is sufficient to be able to produce the dental restoration in common colors using color mixtures based thereon. In the event that the material of the first type of material is a dental prosthesis material, the common colors relate to common tooth colors, which can be described as shades of beige. In the case of the first type of material being a gum replacement material, the common colors refer to common gum colors, which can be described as shades of pink or red. It has been discovered that common tooth colors or gum colors and the corresponding color mixtures can be faithfully reproduced by appropriately mixing a base material with a first color and a base material with a second color.
[0016] With regard to color brightness and color brightness distributions, the present invention is based on the finding that, despite the fact that natural teeth and natural gums have an uneven color brightness distribution, i.e., at least two sections of different color brightness, which are to be replicated in a dental restoration, a limited color brightness range is sufficient to achieve a lifelike appearance of the dental restoration. It was therefore recognized that, for the production of a lifelike dental restoration, it is not necessary to be able to set any desired color brightness and thus any desired color brightness distribution. Rather, it is sufficient to be able to produce the dental restoration in common color brightnesses and color brightness gradations based on them.In the event that the material of the first type of material is a dental prosthesis material, the common color brightnesses relate to common tooth color brightnesses. In the event that the material of the first type of material is a gum prosthesis material, the common color brightnesses relate to common gum color brightnesses. It has been discovered that the common tooth color brightnesses or gum color brightnesses and the associated color brightness gradations can be faithfully reproduced by appropriately mixing a first starting material with a first color brightness and a second starting material with a second color brightness. The simplicity of the method according to the invention, which uses only a first starting material and a second starting material, becomes particularly clear in comparison to a method in which a larger color space or color range and a larger color brightness range are used.In this context, for example, a modification of the CMYK color model can be used, which was already explained above. If a dental restoration is to be produced based on this color model using an arrangement of volume segments, a white material is also required. Furthermore, the CMYK color model can be simplified by mixing black using cyan (C), magenta (M), and yellow (Y). To produce a dental restoration, at least four starting materials are therefore required, with a first starting material being cyan, a second starting material being magenta, a third starting material being yellow, and a fourth starting material being white (instead of key / black). Compared to the method according to the invention, a total of at least four starting materials are required instead of just two.
[0017] It is understood that, according to one option, the method according to the invention utilizes a support material in addition to the first starting material and the second starting material. The support material can be used to create overhanging or projecting sections of the dental restoration.
[0018] Furthermore, it is understood that the designation of the raw materials, colors, color brightness, and opacities using numbers is for convenience only. No quantities or quantities are implied.
[0019] It is further understood that in a case where the dental restoration is made exclusively from a material of the first material type, the region of the dental restoration made from the material of the first material type is synonymous with the entire dental restoration. According to one embodiment, the region of the dental restoration made from the material of the first material type additionally has at least two sections of different opacity. The method then further comprises:
[0020] - Providing a third starting material of the first material type, wherein the third starting material has a third color, a third color brightness and a third opacity,
[0021] - Building up the region of the dental restoration from the material of the first material type by spatially arranging a plurality of volume segments, wherein each volume segment is formed exclusively from one or more selected from the first starting material, the second starting material and the third starting material.
[0022] In this exemplary embodiment, a third starting material is added. Accordingly, each volume segment can be formed exclusively from one or more selected from the first starting material, the second starting material, and the third starting material. This includes seven alternatives. According to a first alternative, a volume segment is formed exclusively from the first starting material. According to a second alternative, a volume segment is formed exclusively from the second starting material. According to a third alternative, a volume segment is formed exclusively from the third starting material. According to a fourth alternative, a volume segment is formed exclusively from the first starting material and the second starting material. According to a fifth alternative, a volume segment is formed exclusively from the first starting material and the third starting material.According to a sixth alternative, a volume segment is formed exclusively from the second starting material and the third starting material. According to a seventh alternative, a volume segment is formed exclusively from the first starting material, the second starting material, and the third starting material. In those alternatives in which the volume segment is formed from more than one starting material, it can also be said that the volume segment is formed exclusively from a mixture of several starting materials selected from the first starting material, the second starting material, and the third starting material. The fact that the dental restoration has at least two sections of different colors, at least two sections of different color brightness, and at least two sections of different opacity gives the dental restoration a particularly lifelike appearance. It is understood that sections of different colors, sections of different color brightness, and sections of different opacity can be separate from one another, can partially overlap, or can completely overlap. As before, the first color, the second color, and the third color can essentially be the same or different. Likewise, the first color brightness, the second color brightness, and the third color brightness can essentially be the same or different. Furthermore, the first opacity, the second opacity, and the third opacity can essentially be the same or different. This always applies, of course, under the premise that the area of the dental restoration made of the material of the first material type has at least two sections of different colors, at least two sections of different color brightness, and at least two sections of different opacity. The lifelike appearance can be achieved using just three starting materials: the first starting material, the second starting material, and the third starting material. No further starting materials are required or used. The process is therefore comparatively simple. Since only three starting materials are used in the present example, the color, color brightness, and opacity of the dental restoration can be locally adjusted within certain limits in a simple and reliable manner. Thus, different subvolumes of the dental restoration can have different colors, different color brightnesses, and different opacities. For example, each subvolume can be assigned to a tooth incisal, a dentin nucleus, and a tooth neck. The present example is based on the realization that, despite the fact that natural teeth and gums have an uneven opacity distribution, i.e., at least two sections of different opacity, which is to be replicated in a dental restoration, a limited opacity range, e.g., between 40% and 95%, is sufficient to achieve a natural appearance of the dental restoration. It was therefore recognized that, in order to produce a lifelike dental restoration, it is not necessary to be able to set any opacity and thus any opacity distribution. Rather, it is sufficient to be able to produce the dental restoration in common opacities and an opacity range based on them.It was found that the common opacities can be faithfully reproduced by appropriately mixing at least one starting material with a first opacity and a starting material with a second opacity.
[0023] This example is explained using opacity. However, it goes without saying that the example could equally be explained using translucency. Opacity and translucency can be converted into one another.
[0024] In one variant, two colors selected from the first color, second color, and third color can be the same. Alternatively or additionally, two colors selected from the first color, second color, and third color can be different. According to the first alternative, two colors from the first color, second color, and third color are the same, but the remaining color is different. According to the second alternative, two colors from the first color, second color, and third color are different. Accordingly, the remaining color is one of the different colors. In one example, the first color and the second color are the same, but the third color is different. In another example, the first color and the third color are the same, but the second color is different. In another example, the second color and the third color are the same, while the first color is different. If two colors selected from the first color, second color, and third color are deliberately the same or different, the process is further simplified. This is because, to create a section of the dental restoration with a specific color, the two different colors from the first color, second color, and third color can be deliberately mixed. Mixing the two identical colors from the first color, second color, and third color does not change the color. The corresponding starting materials can therefore be used to adjust other characteristics, such as color brightness or opacity, which can thus be adjusted independently of the color of the dental restoration.
[0025] In one example, two color brightnesses selected from the first color brightness, the second color brightness, and the third color brightness can be the same. Alternatively or additionally, two color brightnesses selected from the first color brightness, the second color brightness, and the third color brightness can be different. According to the first alternative, two color brightnesses from the first color brightness, the second color brightness, and the third color brightness are the same, but the remaining color brightness is different. According to the second alternative, two color brightnesses from the first color brightness, the second color brightness, and the third color brightness are different. Accordingly, the remaining color brightness is equal to one of the different color brightnesses. In one example, the first color brightness and the second color brightness are the same, and the third color brightness is different. In another example, the first color brightness and the third color brightness are the same, while the second color brightness is different. In a further example, the second color brightness and the third color brightness are the same, while the first color brightness is different. If two color brightnesses selected from the first color brightness, the second color brightness, and the third color brightness are deliberately the same or different, the method is further simplified. This is because, in order to produce a section of the dental restoration with a specific color brightness, the two color brightnesses from the first color brightness, the second color brightness, and the third color brightness that are different can be deliberately mixed. Mixing the two color brightnesses from the first color brightness, the second color brightness, and the third color brightness that are the same does not result in a change in the color brightness. The respective starting materials can therefore be used to adjust other characteristics, such as color or opacity, which can thus be adjusted independently of the color brightness of the dental restoration.
[0026] According to one embodiment, two opacities selected from the first opacity, the second opacity, and the third opacity can be the same. Alternatively or additionally, two opacities selected from the first opacity, the second opacity, and the third opacity can be different. According to the first alternative, two opacities from the first opacity, the second opacity, and the third opacity are the same, but the remaining opacity is different. According to the second alternative, two opacities from the first opacity, the second opacity, and the third opacity are different. Accordingly, the remaining opacity is equal to one of the different opacities. In one example, the first opacity and the second opacity are the same, and the third opacity is different. In another example, the first opacity and the third opacity are the same, and the second opacity is different. In another example, the second opacity and the third opacity are the same, while the first opacity is different. If two opacities selected from the first opacity, the second opacity, and the third opacity are deliberately the same or different, the process is further simplified. This is because, to create a section of the dental restoration with a specific opacity, the two different opacities from the first opacity, the second opacity, and the third opacity can be deliberately mixed. Mixing the two opacities from the first opacity, the second opacity, and the third opacity that are the same does not change the opacity. The corresponding starting materials can therefore be used to adjust other characteristics, such as color or color brightness, which can thus be adjusted independently of the color brightness of the dental restoration.
[0027] According to one example, the first color and the second color are different, the third color and the first color are the same, the first color brightness and the second color brightness are different, the third color brightness and the first color brightness are the same, the first opacity and the second opacity are the same, and the first opacity and the third opacity are different. In this example, a specific color of the dental restoration can be achieved by specifically mixing the first starting material and the second starting material. This can be done locally, i.e., the first starting material and the second starting material can be mixed in different ratios at different locations on the dental restoration, resulting in different colors of the dental restoration at these locations.Likewise, by selectively mixing the first starting material and the second starting material, the color brightness of the dental restoration can be specifically adjusted. This can again be done locally, i.e., the first starting material and the second starting material can be mixed in different ratios at different locations on the dental restoration, resulting in different color brightnesses of the dental restoration at these locations. The first starting material and the second starting material differ only in terms of opacity. Consequently, by selectively mixing the first starting material and the third starting material, the opacity of the dental restoration can be specifically adjusted. This can again be done locally, i.e.At different locations on the dental restoration, the first starting material and the third starting material can be mixed in different ratios, resulting in different opacities of the dental restoration at these locations. It goes without saying that a targeted mixing ratio of the first starting material and the second starting material, as well as a targeted mixing ratio of the first starting material and the third starting material, also results in a fixed mixing ratio between the second starting material and the third starting material. Overall, therefore, the color, color brightness, and opacity of the dental restoration can be specifically adjusted locally. This gives the dental restoration a lifelike appearance.
[0028] In an example in which the first opacity and the second opacity are the same and the third opacity is different, the first opacity and the second opacity can be higher than the third opacity. This is advantageous if a dental restoration to be produced predominantly has a high opacity. This is the case, for example, with a dentin core of a dental restoration that is a replacement tooth. Locally different opacities can thus be achieved by locally reducing the opacity, i.e. increasing the translucency, on the basis of the first and second opacity, which is comparatively high, by mixing in the third starting material with the third, lower opacity. This is advantageous, for example, for an incisal edge of a replacement tooth.
[0029] In another example, where the first opacity and the second opacity are the same and the third opacity is different, the first opacity and the second opacity can be lower than the third opacity. This is advantageous when a dental restoration to be produced predominantly has a low opacity. This is the case, for example, with a denture base that imitates gums. Locally different opacities can thus be achieved by locally increasing the opacity on the basis of the first and second opacity, which is comparatively low, by mixing in the third starting material with the third, higher opacity, i.e. reducing the translucency. This is advantageous, for example, to imitate veins in the denture base.
[0030] The dental restoration may additionally comprise a material of a second material type. A region of the dental restoration made of the second material type has at least two sections of different colors and at least two sections of different color brightness. The method then further comprises:
[0031] - providing a fourth starting material of the second material type, wherein the fourth starting material has a fourth color, a fourth color brightness and a fourth opacity,
[0032] Providing a fifth starting material of the second material type, wherein the fifth starting material has a fifth color, a fifth color brightness, and a fifth opacity, - Building the region of the dental restoration from the material of the second material type by spatially arranging a plurality of volume segments, wherein each volume segment is formed exclusively from one or more selected from the fourth starting material and the fifth starting material.
[0033] The dental restoration to be manufactured therefore comprises a material of the first material type and a material of the second material type. In this context, the material of the first material type can be a tooth replacement material and the material of the second material type a gingival replacement material. The reverse is also possible. The region of the dental restoration made from the material of the second material type is also formed by spatially arranging a plurality of volume segments. In this case, a volume segment of the dental restoration is again understood to be a volume segment that is very small compared to the external dimensions of the dental restoration. The volume segment is therefore also very small compared to any macro sections of the dental restoration that may be reproduced, such as the incisal area, dentin nucleus, neck of the tooth, or gum base. The volume segment can also be referred to as a voxel. The fact that each volume segment is formed exclusively from one or more selected from the fourth starting material and the fifth starting material includes three alternatives. According to a first alternative, a volume segment is formed exclusively from the fourth starting material. According to a second alternative, a volume segment is formed exclusively from the fifth starting material. According to a third alternative, a volume segment is formed exclusively from the fourth starting material and the fifth starting material. In the third alternative, it can also be said that the volume segment is formed exclusively from a mixture of the fourth starting material and the fifth starting material. The fact that the area of the dental restoration made of the second material type also has at least two sections of different colors and at least two sections of different color brightness lends this area of the dental restoration a lifelike appearance. It is understood that sections of different colors and sections of different color brightness can be separate from one another, partially overlap, or completely overlap. This can be achieved using only two starting materials, i.e., the fourth starting material and the fifth starting material. Additional starting materials are neither required nor used. For this reason, the process is comparatively simple.Overall, a dental restoration can thus be produced that has at least one region made of the first material type and at least one region made of the second material type, wherein both the region made of the first material type and the region made of the second material type have at least two sections of different colors and at least two sections of different color brightness. Thus, lifelike dental restorations can be produced with minimal effort using the method according to the invention.
[0034] The fourth color and the fifth color can essentially be the same or different. The fourth color and the fifth color can be described, for example, using a color model or color theory. In this context, the fourth color and the fifth color can be described in an RGB color space, i.e., a color space defined by the colors red (R), green (G), and blue (B). Alternatively, the fourth color and the fifth color can be described in a CMYK color space, i.e., a color space defined by a blue color (cyan - C), a red color (magenta - M), a yellow color (yellow - Y), and black (key - K). As already mentioned, a color space can also be more generally referred to as a color range. A color range can have one or more dimensions. It is also possible to define the fourth color and the fifth color in a color spectrum, i.e., using an associated optical wavelength or frequency.Furthermore, it is possible to describe the fourth color and the fifth color using a Lab color model, i.e., using a brightness value (L value), an a-color value along an axis defined by the colors green and red, and a b-color value along an axis defined by the colors yellow and blue. In a preferred embodiment, the fourth color and the fifth color are different. The dental restoration, or more precisely the region of the dental restoration made of the material of the second type of material, can therefore, at least in sections, have the fourth color or the fifth color or a mixed color generated from the fourth color and the fifth color. In other words, the dental restoration, or more precisely the region of the dental restoration made of the material of the second type of material, can have any color that lies within a color range defined by the fourth color and the fifth color. The dental restoration can therefore have any color that can be created by mixing the fourth color and the fifth color.
[0035] The fourth color brightness and the fifth color brightness can also be fundamentally the same or different. In a preferred embodiment, the fourth color brightness and the fifth color brightness are different. The dental restoration, or more precisely the area of the dental restoration made of the material of the second material type, can therefore, at least in sections, have the fourth color brightness or the fifth color brightness or a mixed color brightness generated from the fourth color brightness and the fifth color brightness. In other words, the dental restoration, or more precisely the area of the dental restoration made of the material of the second material type, can have any color brightness that lies within a color brightness range defined by the fourth color brightness and the fifth color brightness.
[0036] Likewise, the fourth opacity and the fifth opacity can basically be the same or different. If the fourth opacity and the fifth opacity are the same, the color and color brightness can be adjusted by mixing the fourth starting material and the fifth starting material, while the opacity remains the same. In a case where the fourth opacity and the fifth opacity are different, the opacity of the dental restoration, more specifically the opacity of the area of the dental restoration made of the material of the second material type, can be adjusted by mixing the fourth starting material and the fifth starting material. In other words, the dental restoration, more specifically the area of the dental restoration made of the material of the second material type, can have any opacity that lies within an opacity range defined by the fourth opacity and the fifth opacity.According to one variant, the region of the dental restoration made of the second material type additionally has at least two sections of different opacity. The method then further comprises:
[0037] - providing a sixth starting material of the second material type, wherein the sixth starting material has a sixth color, a sixth color brightness and a sixth opacity,
[0038] - Building up the region of the dental restoration from the material of the second material type by spatially arranging a plurality of volume segments, wherein each volume segment is formed exclusively from one or more selected from the fourth starting material, the fifth starting material and the sixth starting material.
[0039] In this exemplary embodiment, a sixth starting material is added to the structure of the region made of material of the second material type. Accordingly, each volume segment can be formed exclusively from one or more selected from the fourth starting material, the fifth starting material, and the sixth starting material. This includes seven alternatives. According to a first alternative, a volume segment is formed exclusively from the fourth starting material. According to a second alternative, a volume segment is formed exclusively from the fifth starting material. According to a third alternative, a volume segment is formed exclusively from the sixth starting material. According to a fourth alternative, a volume segment is formed exclusively from the fourth starting material and the fifth starting material.According to a fifth alternative, a volume segment is formed exclusively from the fourth starting material and the sixth starting material. According to a sixth alternative, a volume segment is formed exclusively from the fifth starting material and the sixth starting material. According to a seventh alternative, a volume segment is formed exclusively from the fourth starting material, the fifth starting material, and the sixth starting material. In those alternatives in which the volume segment is formed from more than one starting material, it can also be said that the volume segment is formed exclusively from a mixture of several selected from the fourth starting material, the fifth starting material, and the sixth starting material. The fact that the dental restoration, or more precisely the area of the dental restoration made of the material of the second material type, has at least two sections of different colors, at least two sections of different color brightness, and at least two sections of different opacity, gives the dental restoration a particularly lifelike appearance. It is understood that sections of different colors, sections of different color brightness, and sections of different opacity can be separate from one another, partially overlap, or completely overlap. As before, the fourth color, the fifth color, and the sixth color can essentially be the same or different. Likewise, the fourth color brightness, the fifth color brightness, and the sixth color brightness can essentially be the same or different.Furthermore, the fourth opacity, the fifth opacity, and the sixth opacity can essentially be the same or different. The lifelike appearance can be achieved using only three raw materials for the area made of the material of the second material type—that is, the fourth raw material, the fifth raw material, and the sixth raw material. Additional raw materials are neither needed nor used. The process is therefore comparatively simple.Since in the present example only three starting materials are used for the dental restoration made of the second material type, and only six starting materials are used for the dental restoration in total, a color, color brightness, and opacity of the dental restoration can be locally adjusted within certain limits for the area made of the first material type and for the area made of the second material type. As before, it is clear that although this example is explained using opacity, the example could equally well be explained using translucency. Opacity and translucency can be converted into one another.
[0040] Two colors selected from the fourth color, fifth color, and sixth color can be the same. Alternatively or additionally, two colors selected from the fourth color, fifth color, and sixth color can be different. According to the first alternative, two colors from the fourth color, fifth color, and sixth color are the same, but the remaining color is different. According to the second alternative, two colors from the fourth color, fifth color, and sixth color are different. Accordingly, the remaining color is one of the different colors. In one example, the fourth color and the fifth color are the same, but the sixth color is different. In another example, the fourth color and the sixth color are the same, but the fifth color is different. In another example, the fifth color and the sixth color are the same, but the fourth color is different. If two colors selected from the fourth color, fifth color, and sixth color are specifically the same or different, the process is further simplified. This is because to create a section of the dental restoration with a specific color, the two different colors from the fourth color, fifth color, and sixth color can be specifically mixed. Mixing the two identical colors from the fourth color, fifth color, and sixth color does not result in a change in color. The corresponding starting materials can therefore be used to adjust other characteristics, such as color brightness or opacity, which can thus be adjusted independently of the color of the dental restoration.
[0041] Furthermore, two color brightnesses selected from the fourth color brightness, the fifth color brightness, and the sixth color brightness can be the same. Alternatively or additionally, two color brightnesses selected from the fourth color brightness, the fifth color brightness, and the sixth color brightness can be different. According to the first alternative, two color brightnesses from the fourth color brightness, the fifth color brightness, and the sixth color brightness are the same, while the remaining color brightness is different. According to the second alternative, two color brightnesses from the fourth color brightness, the fifth color brightness, and the sixth color brightness are different. Accordingly, the remaining color brightness is equal to one of the different color brightnesses. In one example, the fourth color brightness and the fifth color brightness are the same, and the sixth color brightness is different. In another example, the fourth color brightness and the sixth color brightness are the same, while the fifth color brightness is different. In a further example, the fifth color brightness and the sixth color brightness are the same, while the fourth color brightness is different. If two color brightnesses selected from the fourth color brightness, fifth color brightness, and sixth color brightness are deliberately the same or different, the method is further simplified. This is because, to produce a section of the dental restoration with a specific color brightness, the two color brightnesses from the fourth color brightness, fifth color brightness, and sixth color brightness that are different can be deliberately mixed. Mixing the two color brightnesses from the fourth color brightness, fifth color brightness, and sixth color brightness that are the same does not result in a change in the color brightness. The respective starting materials can therefore be used to adjust other characteristics, such as color or opacity, which can thus be adjusted independently of the color brightness of the dental restoration.
[0042] It is also possible for two opacities selected from the fourth opacity, the fifth opacity, and the sixth opacity to be the same. Alternatively or additionally, two opacities selected from the fourth opacity, the fifth opacity, and the sixth opacity can be different. According to the first alternative, two opacities selected from the fourth opacity, the fifth opacity, and the sixth opacity are the same, but the remaining opacity is different. According to the second alternative, two opacities selected from the fourth opacity, the fifth opacity, and the sixth opacity are different. Accordingly, the remaining opacity is equal to one of the different opacities. In one example, the fourth opacity and the fifth opacity are the same, but the sixth opacity is different. In another example, the fourth opacity and the sixth opacity are the same, but the fifth opacity is different. In another example, the fifth opacity and the sixth opacity are the same, while the fourth opacity is different. If two opacities selected from the fourth opacity, fifth opacity, and sixth opacity are deliberately the same or different, the process is further simplified. This is because, to create a section of the dental restoration with a specific opacity, the two different opacities from the fourth opacity, fifth opacity, and sixth opacity can be deliberately mixed. Mixing the two identical opacities from the fourth opacity, fifth opacity, and sixth opacity does not change the opacity. The corresponding starting materials can therefore be used to adjust other characteristics, such as color or color brightness, which can thus be adjusted independently of the color brightness of the dental restoration.
[0043] According to one embodiment, the fourth color and the fifth color are different, the sixth color and the fifth color are the same, the fourth color brightness and the fifth color brightness are different, the sixth color brightness and the fifth color brightness are the same, the fourth opacity and the fifth opacity are the same, and the fourth opacity and the sixth opacity are different. In this example, a color of the dental restoration can be specifically adjusted by specifically mixing the fourth starting material and the fifth starting material. This can be done locally, i.e., the fourth starting material and the fifth starting material can be mixed in different ratios at different locations on the dental restoration, resulting in different colors of the dental restoration at these locations.Likewise, the color brightness of the dental restoration can be specifically adjusted by specifically mixing the fourth starting material and the fifth starting material. This can again be done locally, i.e. the fourth starting material and the fifth starting material can be mixed in different ratios at different points on the dental restoration, resulting in different color brightnesses of the dental restoration at these points. The fourth starting material or the fifth starting material and the sixth starting material differ in terms of opacity. Consequently, the opacity of the dental restoration can be specifically adjusted by specifically mixing the fourth starting material or the fifth starting material and the sixth starting material. This can again be done locally, i.e. the fourth starting material or the fifth starting material can be mixed in different ratios at different points on the dental restoration. The fifth starting material and the sixth starting material are mixed in different ratios, resulting in different opacities of the dental restoration at these locations. It goes without saying that a specific mixing ratio of the fourth starting material and the fifth starting material, as well as a specific mixing ratio of the fourth starting material and the sixth starting material, also results in a fixed mixing ratio between the fifth starting material and the sixth starting material. Overall, therefore, in dental restorations, or more precisely, in dental restorations made from the second material type, both color, color brightness, and opacity can be specifically adjusted locally. This gives the dental restoration a lifelike appearance.
[0044] In an example in which the fourth opacity and the fifth opacity are the same and the sixth opacity is different, the fourth opacity and the fifth opacity can be higher than the sixth opacity. This is advantageous if a dental restoration to be produced predominantly has a high opacity. This is the case, for example, with a dentin core of a dental restoration that is a replacement tooth. Locally different opacities can thus be set by locally reducing the opacity, i.e. increasing the translucency, on the basis of the fourth and fifth opacity, which are comparatively high, by mixing in the sixth starting material with the sixth, lower opacity. This is advantageous, for example, for an incisal of a replacement tooth.
[0045] In another example, where the fourth opacity and the fifth opacity are the same and the sixth opacity is different, the fourth opacity and the fifth opacity can be lower than the sixth opacity. This is advantageous when a dental restoration to be produced predominantly has a low opacity. This is the case, for example, with a denture base that imitates gums. Locally different opacities can thus be achieved by locally increasing the opacity, i.e. reducing the translucency, on the basis of the fourth and fifth opacity, which are comparatively low, by mixing in the sixth starting material with the sixth, higher opacity. This is advantageous, for example, for imitating veins in the denture base.
[0046] The material of the first type of material can be a dental prosthesis material. The material of the second type of material can be a gum replacement material. Alternatively, the material of the first type of material can be a gum replacement material and the material of the second type of material can be a dental prosthesis material. Dental restorations can therefore be produced in different variants. In a first variant, the dental restoration comprises one or more replacement teeth. These are made from the dental prosthesis material. In a second variant, the dental restoration comprises a denture base, i.e. a replica of gum. This is made from the gum replacement material. In a third variant, the dental restoration comprises both a denture base made from the gum replacement material and at least one replacement tooth made from the dental prosthesis material. In all these variants, the dental restoration has a natural appearance.
[0047] In the event that the material of the first material type is a dental prosthetic material, one or more selected from the first color, second color and third color may be a tooth color.
[0048] If the material of the second material type is a gingival replacement material, one or more selected from the fourth color, fifth color, and sixth color may be a gingival color. If the material of the first material type is a gingival replacement material, one or more selected from the first color, second color, and third color may be a gingival color.
[0049] In case the material of the second material type is a dental material, one or more selected from the fourth color, fifth color and sixth color may be a tooth color.
[0050] In the aforementioned cases, the tooth color may be an empirically determined tooth color. Alternatively or additionally, the gum color may be an empirically determined gum color.
[0051] In one embodiment, the first color is defined by an a-value and a b-value, and the first color brightness is defined by an L-value in a Lab color model. Alternatively or additionally, the second color is defined by an a-value and a b-value, and the second color brightness is defined by an L-value in a Lab color model. Alternatively or additionally, the third color is defined by an a-value and a b-value, and the third color brightness is defined by an L-value in a Lab color model. Alternatively or additionally, the fourth color is defined by an a-value and a b-value, and the fourth color brightness is defined by an L-value in a Lab color model. Alternatively or additionally, the fifth color is defined by an a-value and a b-value, and the fifth color brightness is defined by an L-value in a Lab color model.Alternatively or additionally, the sixth color is defined by an a-value and a b-value, and the sixth color lightness by an L-value in a Lab color model. Thus, one or more of the first color, second color, third color, fourth color, fifth color, and sixth color, as well as the first color lightness, second color lightness, third color lightness, fourth color lightness, fifth color lightness, and sixth color lightness, are defined using the Lab color model explained above. This color model provides a lightness value (L-value), an a-color value along an axis defined by the colors green and red, and a b-color value along an axis defined by the colors yellow and blue to describe colors and color lightnesses within the color range or color space spanned in this way. The Lab color model is particularly well suited to describing common colors and color lightnesses for dental restorations.Accordingly, it represents a simple and reliable way to describe one or more of first color, second color, third color, fourth color, fifth color, and sixth color, as well as first color brightness, second color brightness, third color brightness, fourth color brightness, fifth color brightness, and sixth color brightness.
[0052] According to one variant, the area of the dental restoration is built up additively from the material of the first material type. Alternatively or additionally, the area of the dental restoration is built up additively from the material of the second material type. The dental restoration is therefore manufactured using an additive or generative manufacturing process. In this way, patient-specific dental restorations can be produced. The dental restorations can meet the highest standards functionally, i.e. mechanically, and aesthetically, particularly with regard to color, color brightness, and opacity. The additive manufacturing of the dental restoration includes, for example, layer-by-layer production of the dental restoration. Examples of such additive manufacturing processes are Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) and other extrusion processes, Laser Induced Forward Transfer (LIFT), and Material Jetting. The latter is derived from classic inkjet printing (2D printing). All of these processes benefit from the fact that the inventive method allows for the production of lifelike dental restorations, yet requires only comparatively few starting materials. This simplifies the implementation of these additive manufacturing processes, as only comparatively few material and / or color channels are required. Nevertheless, dental restorations with different colors, different color brightnesses, and / or different opacities can be produced.
[0053] The object is further achieved by a device for producing a dental restoration from at least one material of a first material type. The device comprises: - a first supply unit for supplying a first starting material of the first material type, wherein the first starting material has a first color, a first color brightness, and a first opacity,
[0054] - a second supply unit for providing a second source material of the first material type, wherein the second source material has a second color, a second color brightness and a second opacity, and
[0055] - a construction space for constructing at least one region of the dental restoration from the material of the first material type by spatially arranging a plurality of volume segments, wherein each volume segment is formed exclusively from one or more selected from the first starting material and the second starting material.
[0056] Again, the material of the first material type can be a dental prosthesis material or a gum replacement material. Using such a device, a dental restoration can be produced that has at least two sections of different colors and at least two sections of different color brightness. Such dental restorations have a lifelike appearance. At the same time, the structure of the device is simple, as only a first supply unit and a second supply unit are required. Additional supply units for starting materials are neither required nor used. Consequently, using the comparatively simple device according to the invention, lifelike dental restorations can be produced with little effort.Furthermore, the effects, advantages and further explanations mentioned in connection with the method according to the invention also apply in the same way to the device according to the invention.
[0057] It is understood that in the device according to the invention, the first provision unit and the second provision unit as well as the construction space are arranged relative to one another in such a way that the area of the dental restoration can be constructed from the material of the first material type within the construction space.
[0058] The simplicity of the device according to the invention, which uses only a first supply unit and a second supply unit, becomes particularly clear when compared to devices that utilize a larger color range or color space and a larger color brightness range. As already mentioned, a modification of the CMYK color model can be used in this context. If a dental restoration is to be produced based on this color model, a white material is also required. Furthermore, the CMYK color model can be simplified by mixing black using cyan (C), magenta (M), and yellow (Y).To produce a dental restoration, at least four supply units are required, with a first supply unit providing a first starting material of cyan color, a second supply unit providing a second starting material of magenta color, a third supply unit providing a third starting material of yellow color, and a fourth supply unit providing a fourth starting material that is white. Compared to the device according to the invention, a total of at least four supply units are required instead of just two.
[0059] The device according to the invention can be used to carry out the method according to the invention.
[0060] In one variant, the device further comprises a third provision unit for providing a third starting material of the first material type, wherein the third starting material has a third color, a third color brightness, and a third opacity. The construction space for constructing at least one region of the dental restoration from the material of the first material type is formed by spatially arranging a plurality of volume segments. Each volume segment is formed exclusively from one or more selected from the first starting material, the second starting material, and the third starting material. In this exemplary embodiment, a third provision unit is therefore added. Dental restorations can thus be produced which have at least two sections of different colors, at least two sections of different color brightness, and at least two sections of different opacity. This gives the dental restoration a particularly lifelike appearance. Nevertheless, the device is comparatively simple in design, with only three delivery units. If variable translucency were to be incorporated into the application of the previously explained modified CMYK model (cyan, magenta, yellow, white (instead of key / black)), an additional delivery unit for transparent material would be required, thus requiring a total of five delivery units per material type. Furthermore, reference can be made to the explanations regarding the third starting material made in connection with the method according to the invention.
[0061] According to one example, the device is further configured to produce a dental restoration comprising a material of a second material type. The device additionally comprises:
[0062] - a fourth supply unit for supplying a fourth source material of the second material type, wherein the fourth source material has a fourth color, a fourth color brightness and a fourth opacity,
[0063] - a fifth supply unit for providing a fifth source material of the second material type, wherein the fifth source material has a fifth color, a fifth color brightness and a fifth opacity,
[0064] The construction space is designed to construct at least one region of the dental restoration from the material of the second material type by spatially arranging a plurality of volume segments. Each volume segment is formed exclusively from one or more selected from the fourth starting material and the fifth starting material. By means of the device according to this example, dental restorations can be produced which comprise a material of the first material type and a material of the second material type. In this context, the material of the first material type can be a tooth replacement material and the material of the second material type can be a gum replacement material. The reverse is also possible. The regions of the dental restoration made from the material of the second material type are also formed by spatially arranging a plurality of volume segments. The fact that a region of the dental restoration made from a material of the second material type also has at least two sections of different colors and at least two sections of different color brightness gives this region of the dental restoration a natural appearance. Furthermore, the device is comparatively simple in design. Overall, a dental restoration can thus be produced which comprises at least one region made from the material of the first material type and at least one region made from the material of the second material type, wherein both the region made from the material of the first material type and the region made from the material of the second material type have at least two sections of different colors and at least two sections of different color brightness. Consequently, natural dental restorations can be produced easily and inexpensively using the device.
[0065] It is understood that the fourth provision unit, the fifth provision unit and the construction space are arranged relative to one another in such a way that the area of the dental restoration can be constructed from the material of the second material type within the construction space.
[0066] In one embodiment, the device further comprises a sixth supply unit for supplying a sixth starting material of the second material type, wherein the sixth starting material has a sixth color, a sixth color brightness, and a sixth opacity. The construction space is configured for constructing at least one region of the dental restoration from the material of the second material type by spatially arranging a plurality of volume segments. Each volume segment is formed exclusively from one or more selected from the fourth starting material, the fifth starting material, and the sixth starting material. In this exemplary embodiment, a sixth supply unit is therefore added. The fact that the dental restoration, or more precisely the area of the dental restoration made of the second material type, has at least two sections of different colors, at least two sections of different color brightness, and at least two sections of different opacity, gives the dental restoration a particularly lifelike appearance. At the same time, the device is comparatively simple in design. Only three supply units are required for the area of the dental restoration made of the second material type, and only six supply units are required for the dental restoration as a whole. Additional supply units for starting materials are neither required nor used.
[0067] In one example, the device further comprises a seventh supply unit for supplying a support material in the construction space. The support material can be used to produce overhanging or projecting sections from one or more selected from the first starting material, the second starting material, the third starting material, the fourth starting material, the fifth starting material, and the sixth starting material.
[0068] In the device according to the invention, at least one of the first delivery unit, the second delivery unit, the third delivery unit, the fourth delivery unit, the fifth delivery unit, the sixth delivery unit, and the seventh delivery unit can be a 3D printing head. In this case, the device represents a 3D printing device. In this way, lifelike dental restorations can be produced using the device, which can also be individually designed and manufactured for each patient.
[0069] Furthermore, the object is achieved by using exclusively a first starting material of a first material type and a second starting material of the first material type for producing at least one region of a dental restoration from the material of the first material type. The region has at least two sections of different colors and at least two sections of different color brightness. As already mentioned, the material of the first material type can be a tooth replacement material or a gum replacement material. The fact that the dental restoration has at least two sections of different colors and at least two sections of different color brightness gives the dental restoration a natural appearance. According to the invention, this can be achieved using only two starting materials, i.e. the first starting material and the second starting material. No additional starting materials are required or used. For this reason, the use according to the invention makes the production of such a dental restoration comparatively simple. In other words, lifelike dental restorations can be produced with minimal effort using the use according to the invention. For further details, please refer to the explanations regarding the method according to the invention. The variants, effects, and advantages mentioned therein also apply analogously to the use according to the invention.
[0070] In one example, exclusively the first starting material of the first material type, the second starting material of the first material type, and a third starting material of the first material type are used to produce the region of the dental restoration from the material of the first material type. The region has at least two sections of different colors, at least two sections of different color brightness, and at least two sections of different opacity. In this exemplary embodiment, a third starting material is therefore added. The fact that the dental restoration has at least two sections of different colors, at least two sections of different color brightness, and at least two sections of different opacity gives the dental restoration a particularly lifelike appearance. This is achieved in a comparatively simple manner by using only three starting materials. No additional starting materials are required or used. Reference is made to the above explanations, particularly regarding the process according to the invention.
[0071] According to a further example of use, a fourth starting material of a second material type and a fifth starting material of the second material type are exclusively used to produce at least one region of a dental restoration from the material of the second material type. The region has at least two sections of different colors and at least two sections of different color brightness. The dental restoration to be produced thus comprises a material of the first material type and a material of the second material type. In this context, the material of the first material type can be a tooth replacement material, and the material of the second material type can be a gum replacement material. The reverse is also possible. The fact that a section of the dental restoration made of the second material type also has at least two sections of different colors and at least two sections of different color brightness gives this section of the dental restoration a lifelike appearance. This can be achieved using only two starting materials, i.e., the fourth starting material and the fifth starting material. No additional starting materials are required or used. For this reason, the dental restoration is comparatively easy to fabricate.
[0072] In one example, exclusively the fourth starting material of the second material type, the fifth starting material of the second material type, and a sixth starting material of the second material type are used to produce at least one region of a dental restoration from a material of the second material type. The region has at least two sections of different colors, at least two sections of different color brightness, and at least two sections of different opacity. In this exemplary embodiment, a sixth starting material is therefore added. The fact that the dental restoration, or more precisely the region of the dental restoration made from the material of the second material type, has at least two sections of different colors, at least two sections of different color brightness, and at least two sections of different opacity, gives the dental restoration a particularly lifelike appearance. This is achieved in a comparatively simple manner by using only three starting materials. Additional starting materials are neither required nor used. Reference is made to the above explanations, particularly regarding the process according to the invention. It is understood that the aforementioned examples and embodiments can be combined independently of the aspect of the present invention in the context of which they were explained.
[0073] Furthermore, the present invention and the idea underlying the invention were explained using the material of the first material type and the material of the second material type. However, it is understood that the mention of the material of the first material type and the material of the second material type is not to be understood as exhaustive. Thus, a material of a third material type, a material of a fourth material type, etc. can also be used. The ideas and concepts underlying the invention can also be applied to the materials of the other material types. Generally speaking, materials of n material types can therefore be used. The dental restoration therefore comprises n regions, each of the n regions being made from a material of an assigned material type.
[0074] The process according to the invention can generally be carried out using either plastic materials or ceramic materials. In the first case, all starting materials are plastic materials, while in the second case, all starting materials are ceramic materials. The ceramic materials can be processed, for example, in the form of a slurry. Combinations of plastic and ceramic materials are also conceivable.
[0075] The invention is explained below using various embodiments shown in the accompanying drawings. They show:
[0076] Figure 1 shows a device according to the invention for producing a dental restoration, wherein a method according to the invention is carried out by means of the device,
[0077] Figure 2 shows the dental restoration from Figure 1 in a detailed view,
[0078] Figure 3 is an illustration of the optical properties of starting materials of a first material type and Figure 4 is an illustration of the optical properties of starting materials of a second material type.
[0079] Figure 1 shows a device 10 for producing a dental restoration 12.
[0080] In the illustrated embodiment, the device 10 is designed to produce the dental restoration 12 by means of an additive manufacturing process.
[0081] The device 10 can therefore also be referred to as a 3D printing device or 3D printer.
[0082] The device 10 comprises a bearing device 14 on which the dental restoration 12 to be produced can be additively built.
[0083] Furthermore, the device 10 comprises an introduction unit 16 which is designed to introduce starting materials, which will be explained in more detail later and from which the dental restoration 12 is constructed by means of the device 10, into a construction space 18 of the device 10.
[0084] For this purpose, the insertion unit 16 is mounted within the installation space 18 so as to be movable relative to the positioning device 14.
[0085] The input unit 16 comprises a total of seven supply units.
[0086] In this case, a first provision unit 20 is designed to provide a first starting material M1 of a first material type.
[0087] A second supply unit 22 is designed to provide a second starting material M2 of the first material type.
[0088] A third supply unit 24 is configured to supply a third starting material M3 of the first material type. A fourth supply unit 26 is configured to supply a fourth starting material M4 of a second material type.
[0089] A fifth supply unit 28 is designed to provide a fifth starting material M5 of the second material type.
[0090] A sixth supply unit 30 is designed to provide a sixth starting material M6 of the second material type.
[0091] A seventh supply unit 32 is designed to provide a support material M7.
[0092] In the illustrated embodiments, the first type of material relates to a dental prosthesis material and the second type of material relates to a gum prosthesis material.
[0093] The dental prosthesis material is a flowable mixture of methacrylate(s) and / or acrylate(s) with fillers for high abrasion resistance and dyes / pigments.
[0094] The gingival substitute material is a flowable mixture of methacrylate(s) and / or acrylate(s) and dyes / pigments. Optionally, the gingival substitute material also contains additives to increase fracture toughness.
[0095] The first source material Ml has a first color Fl, a first color lightness Hl, and a first opacity O1. The first color Fl is defined by an a-value and a b-value in a Lab color model. The first color lightness Hl is defined by an L-value in the Lab color model.
[0096] The second source material M2 has a second color F2, a second color lightness H2, and a second opacity O2. The second color F2 is defined by an a-value and a b-value in a Lab color model. The second color lightness H2 is defined by an L-value in the Lab color model. The third source material M3 has a third color F3, a third color lightness H3, and a third opacity O3. The third color F3 is defined by an a-value and a b-value in a Lab color model. The third color lightness H3 is defined by an L-value in the Lab color model.
[0097] The fourth source material M4 has a fourth color F4, a fourth color lightness H4, and a fourth opacity O4. The fourth color F4 is defined by an a-value and a b-value in a Lab color model. The fourth color lightness H4 is defined by an L-value in the Lab color model.
[0098] The fifth source material M5 has a fifth color F5, a fifth color lightness H5, and a fifth opacity 05. The fifth color F5 is defined by an a-value and a b-value in a Lab color model. The fifth color lightness H5 is defined by an L-value in the Lab color model.
[0099] The sixth source material M6 has a sixth color F6, a sixth color lightness H6, and a sixth opacity 06. The sixth color F6 is defined by an a-value and a b-value in a Lab color model. The sixth color lightness H6 is defined by an L-value in the Lab color model.
[0100] The M7 support material also has a color, a brightness, and an opacity. However, since the support material will not become part of the dental restoration 12, its color, brightness, and opacity are irrelevant.
[0101] It should be noted that in Figure 1, the dental restoration 12 to be produced is shown in a finished state for the purposes of easier explanation. It is understood that this dental restoration 12 is built up by means of the device 10, for example, layer by layer through the spatial arrangement of volume segments V. For the sake of better clarity, only a few volume segments V are shown in the view in Figure 2. Furthermore, the volume segments V are shown greatly enlarged. In the illustrated embodiment, the dental restoration 12 comprises a denture base 34 and a replacement tooth 36. The denture base 34 simulates natural gums, and the replacement tooth 36 simulates a natural tooth.
[0102] For this purpose, the replacement tooth 36 is constructed from the material of the first material type, ie the first starting material M1, the second starting material M2 and the third starting material M3.
[0103] The prosthesis base 34 is constructed from the material of the second material type, ie the fourth starting material M4, the fifth starting material M5 and the sixth starting material M6.
[0104] It is understood that the dental restoration 12 shown in the figures is purely illustrative. Depending on the application, other dental restorations 12 are also conceivable. In particular, dental restorations 12 are conceivable that comprise only one or more replacement teeth 36 and do not require a denture base. Likewise, dental restorations 12 are conceivable that comprise only a denture base 34, i.e., no replacement teeth 36.
[0105] In the illustrated embodiment, the replacement tooth 36 is a true-to-life replica of a natural tooth. This is evident in that the replacement tooth 36 has a first section 36a that replicates a tooth neck, a second section 36b that replicates a dentin nucleus, and a third section 36c that replicates a tooth incisal.
[0106] The first section 36a, the second section 36b and the third section 36c differ in terms of their colour, their colour brightness and their opacity.
[0107] In this context, the first section 36a has a cervical shade FH, a cervical shade brightness HH, and a cervical opacity OH. The second section 36b has a dentin nucleus shade FK, a dentin nucleus shade brightness HK, and a dentin nucleus opacity OK.
[0108] The third section 36c has a tooth incisal color FS, a tooth incisal color brightness HS and a tooth incisal opacity OS.
[0109] In the illustrated embodiment, the denture base 34 is also a lifelike replica of natural gums. This is evident in the fact that the denture base 34 has several sections that differ in terms of their color, color brightness, and opacity. In the illustrated embodiment, two exemplary sections 34a, 34b are shown, of which the first section 34a replicates gingival tissue, and the second section 34b replicates mucous membrane.
[0110] In this context, the first section 34a has a gingival tissue color FF, a gingival tissue color brightness HF and a gingival tissue opacity OF.
[0111] The second section 34b has a mucosal color FC, a mucosal color brightness HC and a mucosal opacity OC.
[0112] The dental restoration 12 is manufactured by a method for manufacturing a dental restoration, which will be explained below.
[0113] In a first group of steps, the starting materials Ml, M2, M3, M4, M5, M6 are provided.
[0114] More precisely, in a first step S1 the first starting material Ml is provided.
[0115] Furthermore, in a second step S2, the second starting material M2 is provided.
[0116] In addition, the third starting material M3 is prepared in a third step S3. Depending on the dental restoration to be fabricated, the first step S1, the second step S2, and the third step S3 can be performed in parallel or sequentially.
[0117] The first starting material M1, the second starting material M2 and the third starting material M3 are represented in Figure 3 by circles arranged in a triangle to explain their properties in more detail.
[0118] In the illustrated embodiment, the first color F1 and the third color F3 are the same. The second color F2 is different from the first color F1 and the third color F3.
[0119] In terms of color brightness, the first color brightness H1 and the third color brightness H3 are the same. The second color brightness H2 is different from the first color brightness H1 and the third color brightness H3.
[0120] Expressed in the Lab color model, the first starting material Ml and the third starting material have the same color.
[0121] The second starting material M2, on the other hand, has a different color.
[0122] For example, the first color Fl and the first color lightness Hl can be selected so that the color of the first starting material Ml corresponds to or is close to the color "Bleach 3" in the widely used VITA Tooth Shades scheme. It is understood that due to the fact that the first color Fl and the first color lightness Hl are defined in the Lab shade model, the color "Bleach 3" in the VITA Tooth Shades scheme may not be able to be exactly matched.
[0123] The third starting material M3 then has the same color as the first starting material M1, i.e. a color that corresponds to or is close to the color "Bleach 3" in the VITA Tooth Shades scheme. The second color F2 and the second color lightness H2 can be selected so that the color of the second starting material M2 corresponds to or is close to the color "A3.5" in the VITA Tooth Shades scheme. As already mentioned, it is understood that due to the fact that the second color F2 and the second color lightness H2 are defined in the Lab shade model, the color "A3.5" in the VITA Tooth Shades scheme may not be able to be matched exactly.
[0124] Regarding the opacities 01, 02, and 03, the first opacity 01 and the second opacity 02 are the same. The third opacity 03, on the other hand, is different.
[0125] The first opacity 01 and the second opacity 02 are higher than the third opacity 03. In other words, the third starting material M3 has a higher translucency than the first starting material M1 and the second starting material M2.
[0126] More generally, two colors—in this case the third color F3 and the first color F1—selected from the first color F1, the second color F2, and the third color F3, are the same. At the same time, two colors—in this case the first color F1 and the second color F2, or the second color F2 and the third color F2, selected from the first color F1, the second color F2, and the third color F3, are different.
[0127] Furthermore, two—in this case, the first color brightness H1 and the third color brightness H3—selected from the first color brightness H1, the second color brightness H2, and the third color brightness H3 are the same. Likewise, two—in this case, the first color brightness H1 and the second color brightness H2 or the second color brightness H2 and the third color brightness H3, selected from the first color brightness H1, the second color brightness H2, and the third color brightness H3, are different.
[0128] Furthermore, two, in this case the first opacity 01 and the second opacity 02, selected from the first opacity 01, the second opacity 02, and the third opacity 03, are the same. At the same time, two, in this case the first opacity 01 and the third opacity 03 or the third opacity 03 and the second opacity 02, selected from the first opacity 01, the second opacity 03, and the third opacity 03, are different.
[0129] Note that the pair of source materials M1, M2, M3 with the same color and color brightness differs from the pair of source materials M1, M2, M3 with the same opacity. These pairs are therefore not congruent.
[0130] In addition, in a fourth step S4, the fourth starting material M4 is provided.
[0131] Also, in a fifth step S5, the fifth starting material M5 is provided.
[0132] In addition, in a sixth step S6, the sixth starting material M6 is provided.
[0133] Depending on the shape and structure of the dental restoration, the fourth step S4, the fifth step S5 and the sixth step S6 can be carried out in parallel or one after the other.
[0134] In addition, one or more selected from the fourth step S4, the fifth step S5 and the sixth step S6 can run in parallel or sequentially with respect to one or more selected from the first step S1, the second step S2 and the third step S3.
[0135] The fourth starting material M4, the fifth starting material M5 and the sixth starting material M6 are represented in Figure 4 by circles arranged in a triangle to further explain their properties.
[0136] In the illustrated embodiment, the fifth color F5 and the sixth color F6 are the same. The fourth color F4 is different from the fifth color F5 and the sixth color F6.
[0137] In terms of color brightness, the fifth color brightness H5 and the sixth color brightness H6 are the same. The fourth color brightness H4 is different from the fifth color brightness H5 and the sixth color brightness H6. Expressed in the Lab color model, the fifth source material M5 and the sixth source material M6 have the same color.
[0138] The fourth starting material M4, on the other hand, has a different color.
[0139] For example, the fifth color F5 and the fifth color brightness H5 can be chosen so that the color of the fifth source material M5 is a wine red.
[0140] The sixth starting material M6 then has the same color as the fifth starting material M5, i.e. also wine red.
[0141] The fourth color F4 and the fourth color brightness H4 can be chosen so that the color of the fourth source material is pink.
[0142] Regarding the opacities 04, 05, and 06, the fourth opacity 04 and the fifth opacity 05 are the same. The sixth opacity 06, on the other hand, is different.
[0143] The fourth opacity 04 and the fifth opacity 05 are lower than the sixth opacity 06. In other words, the sixth starting material M6 has a lower translucency than the fourth starting material M4 and the fifth starting material M5.
[0144] More generally, two colors—in this case the fifth color F5 and the sixth color F6—selected from the fourth color F4, the fifth color F5, and the sixth color F6, are the same. At the same time, two colors—in this case the fourth color F4 and the fifth color F5, or the fourth color F4 and the sixth color F6, selected from the fourth color F4, the fifth color F5, and the sixth color F6, are different.
[0145] Furthermore, two—in this case, the fifth color brightness H5 and the sixth color brightness H6—selected from the fourth color brightness H4, the fifth color brightness H5, and the sixth color brightness H6 are the same. Likewise, two—in this case, the fourth color brightness H4 and the fifth color brightness H5 or the fourth color brightness H4 and the sixth color brightness H6, selected from the fourth color brightness H4, the fifth color brightness H5, and the sixth color brightness H6, are different.
[0146] Furthermore, two, in this case the fourth opacity 04 and the fifth opacity 05, selected from the fourth opacity 04, the fifth opacity 05, and the sixth opacity 06, are the same. At the same time, two, in this case the fourth opacity 04 and the sixth opacity 06 or the fifth opacity 05 and the sixth opacity 06, selected from the fourth opacity 04, the fifth opacity 05, and the sixth opacity 06, are different.
[0147] Note that the pair of source materials M4, M5, and M6 with the same color and color brightness differs from the pair of source materials M4, M5, and M6 with the same opacity. These pairs are therefore not congruent.
[0148] The raw materials M1, M2, M3, M4, M5, M6 are provided by means of the respective assigned provision units 20, 22, 24, 26, 28, 30.
[0149] In a subsequent seventh step S7, the areas of the dental restoration 12 are constructed from the second material type, i.e., those areas of the dental restoration 12 made from gingival replacement material. In the present case, the denture base 34 represents such an area.
[0150] For this purpose, a plurality of volume segments V or voxels are arranged spatially.
[0151] Each volume segment V or voxel is formed exclusively from one or more selected from fourth source material M4, fifth source material M5 and sixth source material M6.
[0152] In other words, each volume segment V can comprise exclusively the fourth starting material M4, exclusively the fifth starting material M5, or exclusively the sixth starting material M6. Each volume segment V can also comprise a mixture of the fourth starting material M4 and the fifth starting material M5, a mixture of the fourth starting material M4 and the sixth starting material M6, or a mixture of the fifth starting material M5 and the sixth starting material M6.
[0153] In addition, it is possible that each volume segment V comprises a mixture of the fourth starting material M4, the fifth starting material M5 and the sixth starting material M6.
[0154] Thus, by appropriately mixing or providing the starting materials M4, M5, and M6 in their pure form, a color, a color brightness, and an opacity can be determined for each volume segment V. Starting materials beyond the fourth starting material M4, the fifth starting material M5, and the sixth starting material M6 are not used to manufacture the area of the dental restoration from the material of the second material type, i.e., the gingival replacement material.
[0155] In this way, section 34a is provided with a gingival tissue color FF, a gingival tissue color brightness HF and a gingival tissue opacity OF.
[0156] For this purpose, the mixture of 25% of the fourth starting material M4, 67.5% of the fifth starting material M5, and 7.5% of the sixth starting material M6 can be used to manufacture section 34a of the denture base 34. This mixture therefore has the gingival tissue color FF, the gingival tissue color brightness HF, and the gingival tissue opacity OF.
[0157] Section 34b is assigned a mucosal color FC, a mucosal color brightness HC and a mucosal opacity OC.
[0158] For this purpose, the mixture of 67.5% of the fourth starting material M4, 25% of the fifth starting material M5, and 7.5% of the sixth starting material M6 can be used to manufacture section 34b of the denture base 34. This mixture therefore has the mucosal color FC, the mucosal color brightness HC, and the mucosal opacity OC.
[0159] Alternatively, the sixth starting material M6 can be used in pure form.
[0160] The construction of the prosthesis base 34 is thus carried out additively, ie volume segment-wise or voxel-wise.
[0161] In a subsequent eighth step S8, the areas of the dental restoration 12 are then constructed from the material of the first material type, i.e., those areas of the dental restoration 12 made of dental prosthesis material. In the present case, the replacement tooth 36 represents such an area.
[0162] The eighth step S8 is described separately from the seventh step S7 for the sake of simplicity. In reality, the seventh step S7 and the eighth step S8 can also run in parallel or alternately.
[0163] For this purpose, a plurality of volume segments V or voxels are arranged spatially.
[0164] Each volume segment V or voxel is formed exclusively from one or more selected from the first starting material M1, the second starting material M2 and the third starting material M3.
[0165] In other words, each volume segment V can comprise exclusively the first starting material M1, exclusively the second starting material M2 or exclusively the third starting material M3.
[0166] Each volume segment V may also comprise a mixture of first starting material M1 and second starting material M2, a mixture of first starting material M1 and third starting material M3, or a mixture of second starting material M2 and third starting material M3.
[0167] Furthermore, it is possible for each volume segment V to comprise a mixture of the first starting material M1, the second starting material M2, and the third starting material M3. To better understand this concept, Figure 3 shows a total of four different mixtures of the starting materials M1, M2, and M3, each of which has different colors, color brightnesses, and opacities.
[0168] Thus, by appropriately mixing or providing the starting materials Ml, M2, and M3 in their pure form, a color, a color brightness, and an opacity can be determined for each volume segment V. Starting materials beyond the first starting material Ml, the second starting material M2, and the third starting material M3 are not used to manufacture the area of the dental restoration from the material of the first material type, i.e., the dental prosthesis material.
[0169] In this context, the mixture of 25% of the first starting material M1, 0% of the second starting material M2, and 75% of the third starting material M3 can be used to produce the third section 36c of the replacement tooth 36, which replicates a tooth cutting edge. This mixture therefore has the tooth cutting edge color FS, the tooth cutting edge color brightness HS, and the tooth cutting edge opacity OS.
[0170] Furthermore, the mixture of 0% of the first starting material M1, 50% of the second starting material M2, and 50% of the third starting material M3 can be used to produce the second section 36b of the replacement tooth 36, which replicates a dentin nucleus. This mixture therefore has the dentin nucleus color FK, the dentin nucleus color brightness HK, and the dentin nucleus opacity OK. This mixture is particularly well suited for a dentin nucleus of a back tooth or molar. For the second section 36b of a replacement tooth 36, which replicates an anterior tooth, the mixture of 50% of the first starting material M1, 0% of the second starting material M2, and 50% of the third starting material M3 can be used alternatively. The mixture of 25% of the first starting material M1, 50% of the second starting material M2 and 25% of the third starting material M3 can also be used to produce the first section 36a of the replacement tooth 36, which replicates a tooth neck. This mixture has the cervical shade FH, the cervical shade brightness HH and the cervical opacity OH.
[0171] In this way, section 36a receives a cervical shade FH, a cervical shade brightness HH and a cervical opacity OH.
[0172] The second section 36b receives a dentin kernel shade FK, a dentin kernel shade brightness HK and a dentin kernel opacity OK.
[0173] The third section 36c receives a tooth incisal color FS, a tooth incisal color brightness HS and a tooth incisal opacity OS.
[0174] The construction of the replacement tooth 36 is thus carried out additively, ie volume segment-wise or voxel-wise.
[0175] This method is carried out by means of the device 10. It is thus understood that the construction space 18 for constructing the region of the dental restoration 12 from the material of the first material type, i.e., the dental prosthesis material, is formed by spatially arranging a plurality of volume segments V. Furthermore, the construction space 18 for constructing the region of the dental restoration 12 from the material of the second material type, i.e., the gum replacement material, is formed by spatially arranging a plurality of volume segments V.
[0176] In summary, in the illustrated embodiment, exclusively the first starting material M1 of the first material type, the second starting material M2 of the first material type, and the third starting material M3 of the first material type are used to produce a region of the dental restoration 12 from the material of the first material type, in this case the replacement tooth 36. No further starting materials are used to produce the region of the dental restoration 12 from the material of the first material type. Furthermore, in the illustrated embodiment, exclusively the fourth starting material M4 of the second material type, the fifth starting material M5 of the second material type, and the sixth starting material M6 of the second material type are used to produce a region of the dental restoration 12 from the material of the second material type, in this case the denture base 34.No further starting materials are used to manufacture the area of the dental restoration 12 from the material of the second material type.
