At this time, the generated 3D image signal can be separated and aligned into a left-eye image signal (L) and a right-eye image signal (R), as described above.

[0114] Meanwhile, although not shown in the drawing, a 3D processor (not shown) for 3D effect signal processing may be further placed after the formatter (360). This 3D processor may process brightness, tint, and color adjustments of the image signal to improve the 3D effect. For example, it may perform signal processing to make the image clear at a close distance and blurry at a long distance. Meanwhile, the function of this 3D processor may be incorporated into the formatter (360) or incorporated into the image processing unit (320).

[0115] Meanwhile, the audio processing unit (not shown) within the control unit (170) can perform audio processing of the demultiplexed audio signal. For this purpose, the audio processing unit (not shown) can be equipped with various decoders.

[0116] Additionally, the audio processing unit (not shown) within the control unit (170) can process bass, treble, volume control, etc.

[0117] A data processing unit (not shown) within the control unit (170) can perform data processing of a demultiplexed data signal. For example, if the demultiplexed data signal is an encoded data signal, it can be decoded. The encoded data signal may be electronic program guide (EPG) information that includes broadcast information such as the start time and end time of a broadcast program broadcast on each channel.

[0118] Meanwhile, the block diagram of the control unit (170) illustrated in FIG. 3 is only a block diagram for one embodiment of the present disclosure, and each component of the block diagram may be integrated, added, or omitted depending on the specifications of the control unit (170) actually implemented.

[0119] In particular, the frame rate conversion unit (350) and the formatter (360) are not provided within the control unit (170), but may be provided separately, or may be provided separately as one module.

[0120] Figure 4 is a drawing illustrating a control method of the remote control device of Figure 2.

[0121] Referring to FIG. 4, it can be confirmed that a pointer (205) corresponding to a remote control device (200) is displayed on the display (180) of the video display device (100).

[0122] Referring to (a) of FIG. 4, the user can move or rotate the remote control device (200) up and down, left and right, forward and backward. At this time, the pointer (205) displayed on the display (180) of the image display device (100) can be displayed in response to the movement of the remote control device (200). As shown in the drawing, the pointer (205) of this remote control device (200) is moved and displayed according to the movement in 3D space, so it can be called a space remote control or a 3D pointing device.

[0123] Referring to (b) of FIG. 4, when the user moves the remote control device (200) to the left, it can be confirmed that the pointer (205) displayed on the display (180) of the image display device (100) also moves to the left in response to the movement of the remote control device (200).

[0124] Information about the movement of the remote control device (200) detected through the sensor of the remote control device (200) can be transmitted to the image display device (100). The image display device (100) can calculate the coordinates of the pointer (205) from the information about the movement of the remote control device (200). The image display device (100) can display the pointer (205) to correspond to the calculated coordinates.

[0125] Referring to (c) of FIG. 4, a user can move the remote control device (200) away from the display (180) while pressing a specific button provided on the remote control device (200). As a result, a selection area within the display (180) corresponding to the pointer (205) can be zoomed in and displayed in an enlarged manner. Conversely, when a user moves the remote control device (200) closer to the display (180) while pressing a specific button provided on the remote control device (200), a selection area within the display (180) corresponding to the pointer (205) can be zoomed out and displayed in a reduced manner.

[0126] Meanwhile, when the remote control device (200) moves away from the display (180), the selection area may be zoomed out, and when the remote control device (200) moves closer to the display (180), the selection area may be zoomed in.

[0127] Meanwhile, when the user presses a specific button within the remote control device (200), recognition of up, down, left, and right movements may be excluded. That is, when the remote control device (200) moves away from or toward the display (180), up, down, left, and right movements may not be recognized, and only forward and backward movements may be recognized. When the user does not press a specific button within the remote control device (200), only up, down, left, and right movements of the remote control device (200) may be recognized, and accordingly, only the pointer (205) may be moved.

[0128] Meanwhile, the movement speed or movement direction of the pointer (205) can correspond to the movement speed or movement direction of the remote control device (200).

[0129] FIG. 5a and FIG. 5b are flowcharts for an operating method of an image display device according to one embodiment of the present disclosure.

[0130] Referring to FIG. 5A, the image display device (100) can be powered on in operation S501. For example, the image display device (100) can be powered on when a user input of pressing a power key included in an input unit (160) is received while the power is off, or when a signal for turning the power on is received from a remote control device (200). When the power of the image display device (100) is turned on, booting of the image display device (100) can be initiated.

[0131] According to one embodiment, when the power of the video display device (100) is first turned on and booting of the video display device (100) is first performed, the video display device (100) may set a mode related to the use of the tuner (hereinafter, use mode). Hereinafter, the mode that uses the tuner may be named a tuner mode, and the mode that restricts the use of the tuner may be named a tunerless mode.

[0132] Referring to FIG. 6, the image display device (100) may output a screen (600) including a user interface related to the initial setting of the usage mode when the image display device (100) is first powered on. The screen (600) may include an object (610) corresponding to the tuner mode and an object (620) corresponding to the tunerless mode. At this time, based on the object pointed to by the pointer (205) corresponding to the remote control device (200), the user may select the usage mode as one of the tuner mode and the tunerless mode. The control unit (170) of the image display device (100) may receive a command for selecting the usage mode as one of the tuner mode and the tunerless mode through the user input interface unit (150).

[0133] The video display device (100) can, in operation S502, determine whether the usage mode is set to a mode that restricts the use of the tuner. For example, the video display device (100) can determine the usage mode based on data values for the usage mode stored in the memory (140).

[0134] The video display device (100) can perform initialization of the tuner when the usage mode is set to the tuner mode in operation S503. For example, the control unit (170) of the video display device (100) can transmit a signal commanding the initialization of the tuner to the tuner unit (110). At this time, the tuner unit (110) can set the data stored in the register of the tuner to a value for driving an RFIC (radio frequency integrated circuit) or initialize it to an initial setting value based on the signal received from the control unit (170). Meanwhile, when the initialization of the tuner is completed, the tuner unit (110) can transmit a response signal (e.g., an ack signal) for the initialization to the control unit (170).

[0135] The video display device (100) can determine whether initialization of the tuner is completed in operation S504. For example, the control unit (170) of the video display device (100) can determine whether initialization of the tuner is completed based on whether a response signal for initialization is received from the tuner unit (110).

[0136] The video display device (100) can activate functions related to broadcast services based on completion of initialization of the tuner in operation S505. For example, the video display device (100) can activate functions such as outputting broadcast images, searching for channels, providing an electronic program guide (EPG), and recording scheduled broadcast images based on completion of initialization of the tuner.

[0137] The video display device (100) can perform a conventional operation according to power-on in operation S506. For example, the video display device (100) can output a home screen, which is a default screen displayed when the video display device (100) is booted, through the display (180). For example, the video display device (100) can connect to a wired / wireless network, including the Internet, through the network interface unit (135).

[0138] Meanwhile, the video display device (100) may, in operation S507, switch the usage mode to the tunerless mode based on the failure of the initialization for the tuner. For example, the control unit (170) of the video display device (100) may determine that the initialization for the tuner has failed based on the fact that a response signal for the initialization is not received from the tuner unit (110). For example, the control unit (170) of the video display device (100) may determine that the initialization for the tuner has failed based on the fact that a signal corresponding to the failure of the initialization is received from the tuner unit (110). Meanwhile, when the usage mode is switched to the tunerless mode based on the failure of the initialization for the tuner, the video display device (100) may store the data value for the usage mode stored in the memory (140) as a first value corresponding to the automatic setting of the tunerless mode.

[0139] Meanwhile, referring to FIG. 5b, the image display device (100) can determine whether the usage mode has been manually set to the tunerless mode by the user in operation S508, if the usage mode has been set to the tunerless mode. For example, the image display device (100) can determine that the usage mode has been automatically set to the tunerless mode if the data value for the usage mode stored in the memory (140) is the first value, and that the usage mode has been manually set to the tunerless mode if the data value is the second value.

[0140] The video display device (100) can check the status of the tuner when the usage mode is automatically set to the tunerless mode in operation S509. For example, the control unit (170) of the video display device (100) can transmit a preset first signal for checking the status of the tuner to the tuner. At this time, the control unit (170) of the video display device (100) can determine the status of the tuner based on a second signal that responds to the first signal from the tuner. That is, when the control unit (170) receives the second signal from the tuner, it can be determined that power is normally supplied to the tuner and that the communication status of the tuner is also good.

[0141] According to one embodiment, the first signal for checking the status of the tuner may be a signal for commanding the initialization of the tuner. The second signal in response to the first signal may be a response signal for the initialization (e.g., an ack signal). That is, the video display device (100) may retry the initialization of the tuner while the usage mode is automatically set to the tunerless mode.

[0142] The video display device (100) can determine whether the tuner is in good condition in operation S510. For example, the control unit (170) of the video display device (100) can determine that the tuner is in a bad condition based on the fact that a second signal responding to a first signal is not received from the tuner.

[0143] In operation S511, if the state of the tuner is defective, the video display device (100) can output a message through the display (180) indicating that the usage mode is set to the tunerless mode. That is, if the state of the tuner is determined to be defective while the usage mode is automatically set to the tunerless mode, the video display device (100) can notify the user that the usage mode is set to the tunerless mode.

[0144] Referring to FIG. 7, the video display device (100) may output a screen (700) containing a message indicating that the usage mode is set to tunerless mode due to a defective tuner status through the display (180). The video display device (100) may also output a message indicating that functions related to broadcasting services are deactivated as the usage mode is set to tunerless mode.

[0145] Meanwhile, in operation S512, if the tuner is in good condition, the video display device (100) can output a user interface related to setting the usage mode through the display (180). That is, if the tuner is determined to be in good condition while the usage mode is automatically set to the tunerless mode, the video display device (100) can provide a user interface so that the user can set the usage mode in consideration of a failure in initialization of the tuner.

[0146] Referring to FIG. 8A, the video display device (100) may output a screen (800) including a user interface related to setting a usage mode in response to a failure in initialization of the tuner. The screen (800) may include a message indicating that initialization of the tuner has failed. The screen (800) may include an object (810) corresponding to checking the status of the tuner and an object (820) corresponding to a tunerless mode. At this time, based on the object pointed to by the pointer (205) corresponding to the remote control device (200), the user may check the status of the tuner or select the usage mode as the tunerless mode. The control unit (170) of the video display device (100) may receive a command to check the status of the tuner or a command to set the usage mode to the tunerless mode through the user input interface unit (150).

[0147] Referring to FIG. 8B, when an object (810) corresponding to checking the status of a tuner is selected by the user, the image display device (100) can output a screen (805) indicating the status of the tuner. The screen (805) indicating the status of the tuner can include messages regarding the power status of the tuner, the communication status of the tuner, the initialization status of the tuner, the status of a broadcast signal transmitted to the tuner, etc. For example, the image display device (100) can determine the power status and / or the communication status of the tuner based on a second signal that responds to a first signal for checking the status of the tuner. For example, the image display device (100) can determine the status of a broadcast signal transmitted to the tuner based on whether a broadcast signal is received through the tuner, whether a channel is searched for from the broadcast signal, etc.

[0148] Meanwhile, the screen (805) indicating the status of the tuner may include an object (830) corresponding to the tuner mode. When the user selects the object (830) corresponding to the tuner mode, the image display device (100) may store the data value for the usage mode stored in the memory (140) as a value corresponding to the tuner mode. The image display device (100) may re-initialize the tuner based on the usage mode being set to the tuner mode.

[0149] The video display device (100) can determine, in operation S513, whether the user selects the tunerless mode as the usage mode through the user interface. Meanwhile, if the user selects the tunerless mode as the usage mode, the video display device (100) can store the data value for the usage mode stored in the memory (140) as a second value corresponding to the manual setting of the tunerless mode.

[0150] The video display device (100) may, in operation S514, deactivate functions related to broadcast services. For example, the video display device (100) may block the use of functions such as outputting broadcast images, searching for channels, providing an electronic program guide (EPG), and recording scheduled broadcast images when the usage mode is manually set to tunerless mode or when the tuner is determined to be in a defective state while the usage mode is automatically set to tunerless mode.

[0151] Referring to FIGS. 9 to 11, a user can set a usage mode by using a user interface (910) (hereinafter, setting UI) that sets the setting values of the image display device (100) while using the image display device (100).

[0152] Referring to FIG. 9, the image display device (100) can provide a setting UI (910) while the screen is output through the display (180). For example, the image display device (100) can output the setting UI (910) when a user input signal for pressing a setting key is received from a remote control device (200).

[0153] The settings UI (910) may include an object (911) corresponding to settings related to video output, an object (912) corresponding to settings related to audio output, an object (913) corresponding to settings related to broadcast service provision, an object (914) corresponding to settings related to communication connection, an object (915) corresponding to basic settings of the video display device (100) such as language and time, an object (916) corresponding to settings related to convenience functions such as voice guidance and subtitle display, an object (917) corresponding to settings related to technical support such as software updates, etc.

[0154] When the usage mode is set to tuner mode, an object (913) corresponding to settings related to the provision of broadcast services may be displayed as a first object (913') indicating the activation of a function related to the broadcast service. At this time, when a user selects the first object (913') using a pointer (205) corresponding to a remote control device (200), the video display device (100) may provide a function for searching for a channel, a function for editing a searched channel, etc.

[0155] Meanwhile, the user can set the usage mode by selecting an object (915) corresponding to the basic settings of the video display device (100) using the pointer (205) corresponding to the remote control device (200).

[0156] Referring to FIG. 10, the image display device (100) can output a screen (1000) for setting a usage mode through the display (180). The screen (1000) for setting a usage mode can include an object (1010) corresponding to a tuner mode and an object (1020) corresponding to a tunerless mode. The user can select either the object (1010) corresponding to the tuner mode or the object (1020) corresponding to the tunerless mode using a pointer (205) corresponding to a remote control device (200). The image display device (100) can set the usage mode to either the tuner mode or the tunerless mode based on the user's selection. In this case, when the user selects the tunerless mode as the usage mode, the image display device (100) can store a data value for the usage mode stored in the memory (140) as a second value corresponding to manual setting of the tunerless mode.

[0157] Referring to Fig. 11, when the usage mode is set to tunerless mode, an object (913) corresponding to settings related to provision of broadcast services may be displayed as a second object (913'') indicating deactivation of functions related to broadcast services. At this time, even if the user selects the second object (913'') using a pointer (205) corresponding to the remote control device (200), the video display device (100) may block access to settings related to provision of broadcast services, such as the function of searching for channels and the function of editing searched channels.

[0158] Referring to FIG. 12, the video display device (100) may output a channel search related screen (1200) based on a user input selecting an object (913) corresponding to settings related to broadcast service provision. The video display device (100) may provide a function for searching for channels when a function related to broadcast service is activated. Hereinafter, channel search may be referred to as auto scan, automatic scan, automatic channel selection, automatic channel setting, automatic channel search, etc. The channel search related screen (1200) may include an object (1210) corresponding to the start of channel search. When a user selects an object (1210) corresponding to the start of channel search using a pointer (205), the video display device (100) may perform a channel search based on a broadcast signal received through a tuner.

[0159] Referring to FIG. 13, the video display device (100) can output a search results screen (1300) regarding the results of performing a channel search. The search results screen (1300) can include the number of channels searched for according to the method of receiving a broadcast signal, the number of channels searched for according to the frequency band, etc. The search results screen (1300) can include an object (1310) corresponding to re-performing a channel search and an object (1320) corresponding to completing a channel search.

[0160] The video display device (100) can determine the status of the tuner based on the results of the channel search. For example, if no channel is found through the channel search, the video display device (100) can determine that the tuner is in a defective state.

[0161] If no channel is found through a channel search, the video display device (100) can output a message indicating that the channel search has failed through a search result screen (1300). If the status of the tuner is determined to be defective based on the results of the channel search, the video display device (100) can provide a user interface related to setting the usage mode through the search result screen (1300). For example, if the status of the tuner is determined to be defective based on the results of the channel search, the video display device (100) can include an object (1330) corresponding to the setting of the usage mode in the search result screen (1300). At this time, if the user selects the object (1330) corresponding to the setting of the usage mode using the pointer (205), the video display device (100) can output a screen (1000) (see FIG. 10) for setting the usage mode.

[0162] As described above, according to various embodiments of the present disclosure, it is possible to determine whether to activate a function related to a broadcast service depending on a preset mode in relation to the use of a tuner at boot time.
