AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Current wireless communication systems face challenges in efficiently supporting three-antenna-port SRS transmissions, particularly in combining multiple SRS resources to form a 3-port SRS resource group for 3Tx PUSCH transmissions.

Method used

The proposed solution involves configuring three-port codebook-based Physical Uplink Shared Channel (PUSCH) transmissions by determining groups of Sounding Reference Signal (SRS) resources within an SRS resource set. These groups consist of one or more two-port and one-port SRS resources, or three single-port SRS resources, with specific indexing and power adjustment methods to ensure effective 3-port SRS transmissions.

Benefits of technology

This approach enables efficient three-antenna-port SRS transmissions by optimizing the combination and indexing of SRS resources, thereby enhancing the performance of 3Tx PUSCH transmissions in wireless communication systems.

[0051] Aspects of the present disclosure are described in the context of a wireless communications system.

[0052] Figure 1 illustrates an example of a wireless communications system 100 in accordance with aspects of the present disclosure. The wireless communications system 100 may include one or more NE 102, one or more UE 104, and a core network (CN) 106. The wireless communications system 100 may support various radio access technologies. In some implementations, the wireless communications system 100 may be a 4G network, such as an LTE network or an LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) network. In some other implementations, the wireless communications system 100 may be a New Radio (NR) network, such as a 5G network, a 5G-Advanced (5G-A) network, or a 5G ultrawideband (5G-UWB) network. In other implementations, the wireless communications system 100 may be a combination of a 4G network and a 5G network, or other suitable radio access technology including Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) 802.11 (Wi-Fi) , IEEE 802.16 (WiMAX) , IEEE 802.20. The wireless communications system 100 may support radio access technologies beyond 5G, for example, 6G. Additionally, the wireless communications system 100 may support technologies, such as time division multiple access (TDMA) , frequency division multiple access (FDMA) , or code division multiple access (CDMA) , etc.

[0053] The one or more NE 102 may be dispersed throughout a geographic region to form the wireless communications system 100. One or more of the NE 102 described herein may be or include or may be referred to as a network node, a base station, a network element, a network function, a network entity, a radio access network (RAN) , a NodeB, an eNodeB (eNB) , a next-generation NodeB (gNB) , or other suitable terminology. An NE 102 and a UE 104 may communicate via a communication link, which may be a wireless or wired connection. For example, an NE 102 and a UE 104 may perform wireless communication (e.g., receive signaling, transmit signaling) over a Uu interface.

[0054] An NE 102 may provide a geographic coverage area for which the NE 102 may support services for one or more UEs 104 within the geographic coverage area. For example, an NE 102 and a UE 104 may support wireless communication of signals related to services (e.g., voice, video, packet data, messaging, broadcast, etc. ) according to one or multiple radio access technologies. In some implementations, an NE 102 may be moveable, for example, a satellite associated with a non-terrestrial network (NTN) . In some implementations, different geographic coverage areas associated with the same or different radio access technologies may overlap, but the different geographic coverage areas may be associated with different NE 102.

[0055] The one or more UE 104 may be dispersed throughout a geographic region of the wireless communications system 100. A UE 104 may include or may be referred to as a remote unit, a mobile device, a wireless device, a remote device, a subscriber device, atransmitter device, a receiver device, or some other suitable terminology. In some implementations, the UE 104 may be referred to as a unit, a station, a terminal, or a client, among other examples. Additionally, or alternatively, the UE 104 may be referred to as an Internet-of-Things (IoT) device, an Internet-of-Everything (IoE) device, or machine-type communication (MTC) device, among other examples.

[0056] A UE 104 may be able to support wireless communication directly with other UEs 104 over a communication link. For example, a UE 104 may support wireless communication directly with another UE 104 over a device-to-device (D2D) communication link. In some implementations, such as vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V)  deployments, vehicle-to-everything (V2X) deployments, or cellular-V2X deployments, the communication link 114 may be referred to as a sidelink. For example, a UE 104 may support wireless communication directly with another UE 104 over a PC5 interface.

[0057] An NE 102 may support communications with the CN 106, or with another NE 102, or both. For example, an NE 102 may interface with other NE 102 or the CN 106 through one or more backhaul links (e.g., S1, N2, N2, or network interface) . In some implementations, the NE 102 may communicate with each other directly. In some other implementations, the NE 102 may communicate with each other indirectly (e.g., via the CN 106) . In some implementations, one or more NE 102 may include subcomponents, such as an access network entity, which may be an example of an access node controller (ANC) . An ANC may communicate with the one or more UEs 104 through one or more other access network transmission entities, which may be referred to as a radio heads, smart radio heads, or transmission-reception points (TRPs) .

[0058] The CN 106 may support user authentication, access authorization, tracking, connectivity, and other access, routing, or mobility functions. The CN 106 may be an evolved packet core (EPC) , or a 5G core (5GC) , which may include a control plane entity that manages access and mobility (e.g., a mobility management entity (MME) , an access and mobility management functions (AMF) ) and a user plane entity that routes packets or interconnects to external networks (e.g., a serving gateway (S-GW) , a Packet Data Network (PDN) gateway (P-GW) , or a user plane function (UPF) ) . In some implementations, the control plane entity may manage non-access stratum (NAS) functions, such as mobility, authentication, and bearer management (e.g., data bearers, signal bearers, etc. ) for the one or more UEs 104 served by the one or more NE 102 associated with the CN 106.

[0059] The CN 106 may communicate with a packet data network over one or more backhaul links (e.g., via an S1, N2, N2, or another network interface) . The packet data network may include an application server. In some implementations, one or more UEs 104 may communicate with the application server. A UE 104 may establish a session (e.g., a protocol data unit (PDU) session, or the like) with the CN 106 via an NE 102. The CN 106 may route traffic (e.g., control information, data, and the like) between the UE 104 and the  application server using the established session (e.g., the established PDU session) . The PDU session may be an example of a logical connection between the UE 104 and the CN 106 (e.g., one or more network functions of the CN 106) .

[0060] In the wireless communications system 100, the NEs 102 and the UEs 104 may use resources of the wireless communications system 100 (e.g., time resources (e.g., symbols, slots, subframes, frames, or the like) or frequency resources (e.g., subcarriers, carriers) ) to perform various operations (e.g., wireless communications) . In some implementations, the NEs 102 and the UEs 104 may support different resource structures. For example, the NEs 102 and the UEs 104 may support different frame structures. In some implementations, such as in 4G, the NEs 102 and the UEs 104 may support a single frame structure. In some other implementations, such as in 5G and among other suitable radio access technologies, the NEs 102 and the UEs 104 may support various frame structures (i.e., multiple frame structures) . The NEs 102 and the UEs 104 may support various frame structures based on one or more numerologies.

[0061] One or more numerologies may be supported in the wireless communications system 100, and a numerology may include a subcarrier spacing and a cyclic prefix. A first numerology (e.g., μ=0) may be associated with a first subcarrier spacing (e.g., 15 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix. In some implementations, the first numerology (e.g., μ=0) associated with the first subcarrier spacing (e.g., 15 kHz) may utilize one slot per subframe. A second numerology (e.g., μ=1) may be associated with a second subcarrier spacing (e.g., 30 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix. A third numerology (e.g., μ=2) may be associated with a third subcarrier spacing (e.g., 60 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix or an extended cyclic prefix. A fourth numerology (e.g., μ=3) may be associated with a fourth subcarrier spacing (e.g., 120 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix. A fifth numerology (e.g., μ=4) may be associated with a fifth subcarrier spacing (e.g., 240 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix.

[0062] A time interval of a resource (e.g., a communication resource) may be organized according to frames (also referred to as radio frames) . Each frame may have a duration, for example, a 10 millisecond (ms) duration. In some implementations, each frame may include multiple subframes. For example, each frame may include 10 subframes, and each  subframe may have a duration, for example, a 1 ms duration. In some implementations, each frame may have the same duration. In some implementations, each subframe of a frame may have the same duration.

[0063] Additionally or alternatively, a time interval of a resource (e.g., a communication resource) may be organized according to slots. For example, a subframe may include a number (e.g., quantity) of slots. The number of slots in each subframe may also depend on the one or more numerologies supported in the wireless communications system 100. For instance, the first, second, third, fourth, and fifth numerologies (i.e., μ=0, μ=1, μ=2, μ=3, μ=4) associated with respective subcarrier spacings of 15 kHz, 30 kHz, 60 kHz, 120 kHz, and 240 kHz may utilize a single slot per subframe, two slots per subframe, four slots per subframe, eight slots per subframe, and 16 slots per subframe, respectively. Each slot may include a number (e.g., quantity) of symbols (e.g., OFDM symbols) . In some implementations, the number (e.g., quantity) of slots for a subframe may depend on a numerology. For a normal cyclic prefix, a slot may include 14 symbols. For an extended cyclic prefix (e.g., applicable for 60 kHz subcarrier spacing) , a slot may include 12 symbols. The relationship between the number of symbols per slot, the number of slots per subframe, and the number of slots per frame for a normal cyclic prefix and an extended cyclic prefix may depend on a numerology. It should be understood that reference to a first numerology (e.g., μ=0) associated with a first subcarrier spacing (e.g., 15 kHz) may be used interchangeably between subframes and slots.

[0064] In the wireless communications system 100, an electromagnetic (EM) spectrum may be split, based on frequency or wavelength, into various classes, frequency bands, frequency channels, etc. By way of example, the wireless communications system 100 may support one or multiple operating frequency bands, such as frequency range designations FR1 (410 MHz –7.125 GHz) , FR2 (24.25 GHz –52.6 GHz) , FR3 (7.125 GHz –24.25 GHz) , FR4 (52.6 GHz –114.25 GHz) , FR4a or FR4-1 (52.6 GHz –71 GHz) , and FR5 (114.25 GHz –300 GHz) . In some implementations, the NEs 102 and the UEs 104 may perform wireless communications over one or more of the operating frequency bands. In some implementations, FR1 may be used by the NEs 102 and the UEs 104, among other equipment or devices for cellular communications traffic (e.g., control information, data) .  In some implementations, FR2 may be used by the NEs 102 and the UEs 104, among other equipment or devices for short-range, high data rate capabilities.

[0065] FR1 may be associated with one or multiple numerologies (e.g., at least three numerologies) . For example, FR1 may be associated with a first numerology (e.g., μ=0) , which includes 15 kHz subcarrier spacing; a second numerology (e.g., μ=1) , which includes 30 kHz subcarrier spacing; and a third numerology (e.g., μ=2) , which includes 60 kHz subcarrier spacing. FR2 may be associated with one or multiple numerologies (e.g., at least 2 numerologies) . For example, FR2 may be associated with a third numerology (e.g., μ=2) , which includes 60 kHz subcarrier spacing; and a fourth numerology (e.g., μ=3) , which includes 120 kHz subcarrier spacing.

[0086] In some implementations, the processor 402 and the memory 404 coupled with the processor 402 may be configured to cause the NE 400 to perform one or more of the functions described herein (e.g., executing, by the processor 402, instructions stored in the memory 404) . For example, the processor 402 may support wireless communication at the NE 400 in accordance with examples as disclosed herein.

[0087] The controller 406 may manage input and output signals for the NE 400. The controller 406 may also manage peripherals not integrated into the NE 400. In some implementations, the controller 406 may utilize an operating system such as or other operating systems. In some implementations, the controller 406 may be implemented as part of the processor 402.

[0089] A receiver chain 410 may be configured to receive signals (e.g., control information, data, packets) over a wireless medium. For example, the receiver chain 410 may include one or more antennas for receive the signal over the air or wireless medium. The receiver chain 410 may include at least one amplifier (e.g., a low-noise amplifier (LNA) ) configured to amplify the received signal. The receiver chain 410 may include at least one demodulator configured to demodulate the receive signal and obtain the transmitted data by reversing the modulation technique applied during transmission of the signal. The receiver chain 410 may include at least one decoder for decoding the processing the demodulated signal to receive the transmitted data.

[0090] A transmitter chain 412 may be configured to generate and transmit signals (e.g., control information, data, packets) . The transmitter chain 412 may include at least one modulator for modulating data onto a carrier signal, preparing the signal for transmission over a wireless medium. The at least one modulator may be configured to support one or more techniques such as amplitude modulation (AM) , frequency modulation (FM) , or digital modulation schemes like phase-shift keying (PSK) or quadrature amplitude  modulation (QAM) . The transmitter chain 412 may also include at least one power amplifier configured to amplify the modulated signal to an appropriate power level suitable for transmission over the wireless medium. The transmitter chain 412 may also include one or more antennas for transmitting the amplified signal into the air or wireless medium.

[0091] To facilitate three-antenna-port codebook-based PUSCH transmissions, or 3Tx PUSCH transmissions, a 3-antenna-port SRS transmission should be determined first. Throughout the present disclosure, the terms “three-antenna-port” , “3-antenna-port” , “three-port” and “3-port” may be used interchangeably. Similarly, the terms “two-port” and “2-port” may be used interchangeably. The terms “one-port” , “single-port” and “1-port” , may also be used interchangeably.

[0092] In RAN 1 #116 meeting, a method of combining multiple SRS resources has been proposed. That is, a 3-port SRS transmission is based on a 3-port SRS resource group which includes a 2-port SRS resource and a single-port SRS resource or includes three single-port SRS resources. However, some detailed issues need to be addressed, for example, how to combine different SRS resources in an SRS resource set, how to index SRS ports across different SRS resources, and the restrictions of the combined SRS resources. The present disclosure provides methods and detailed implementation of generating a 3-port SRS by combining multiple SRS resources to support 3Tx PUSCH transmission.

[0093] In the present Technical Specifications (TS) of the Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) , the following are provided.

[0094] 6.4.1.4 Sounding reference signal in TS 38.211

[0095] An SRS resource is configured by the SRS-Resource IE or the SRS-PosResource IE and consists of

[0096] -  antenna where the number of antenna ports is given by the higher layer parameter nrofSRS-Ports if configured, otherwise and pi=1000+i when the SRS resource is in a SRS resource set with higher-layer parameter usage in SRS-ResourceSet not set to 'nonCodebook' , or determined according to [6, TS 38.214] when the SRS resource is in a SRS resource set with higher-layer parameter usage in SRS-ResourceSet set to 'nonCodebook' .

[0097] The sounding reference signal sequence for an SRS resource shall be generated according to

[0098] where is given by clause 6.4.1.4.3,  is given by clause 5.2.2 with δ=log2 (KTC) and the transmission comb number KTC∈ {2, 4, 8} is contained in the higher-layer parameter transmissionComb. The quantity is the OFDM symbol number within the SRS resource.

[0099] The quantity is given by

[0100] - if the higher-layer parameter nrofSRS-Ports-n8 equals ports8tdm

[0101] - otherwise

[0102] The cyclic shift αi for antenna port pi is given as

[0103] where

[0104] where is contained in the higher layer parameter transmissionComb. The maximum number of cyclic shifts is given by Table 6.4.1.4.2-1.

[0105] The quantities and are given by

[0106] - if the higher-layer parameter nrofSRS-Ports-n8 equals ports8tdm

[0107] - otherwise

[0108] Generation of a 3-port SRS resource group by combining different SRS resources

[0109] A 3-port SRS transmission is based on a 3-port SRS resource group. A 3-port SRS resource group may be achieved by combing a 2-port SRS resource and a single-port SRS resource or by combining three single-port SRS resources. It has been agreed that one SRS resource set is configured for single TRP operation. Then, multiple 2-port SRS resources and single-port SRS resources may be configured in the one SRS resource set for 3Tx codebook-based transmission; and thus for a 3-port SRS, it should to be determined which SRS resources are combined.

[0110] In the present disclosure, the combined SRS resources for supporting a 3-port SRS transmission are denoted as a 3-port SRS resource group.

[0111] In current standard, up to two SRS resources are included in an SRS resource set for codebook-based transmission. Accordingly, in some examples of 3Tx UE, up to 2 groups of SRS resources may be included in an SRS resource set for 3-port codebook-based transmission. Specifically, if a 3-port SRS resource group is achieved by combining a 2-port SRS resource and a single-port SRS resource (which may be referred to as case 2+1) , up to two 2-port SRS resources and up to two single-port SRS resources may be included in an SRS resource set with usage of codebook, and the numbers of 2-port SRS resources and single-port SRS resources are the same; if a 3-port SRS resource group is achieved by combining three single-port SRS resources (which may be referred to as case 1+1+1) , up to six single-port SRS resources may be included in an SRS resource set with usage of codebook.

[0112] The following two schemes are proposed to determine how the SRS resources may be combined to form 3-port SRS resource groups. The determination may be made by the UE or the gNB.

[0113] Scheme 1: Explicitly configuring which SRS resources are combined

[0114] In the first scheme, a signalling, e.g., RRC signalling, may be used to indicate which SRS resources in the SRS resource set are combined to generate a 3-port SRS resource group.

[0115] In a first example, for an SRS resource, the signalling is added in an SRS resource configuration to indicate which SRS resource or SRS resources are combined with the SRS resource. For example, as shown in the following SRS resource configuration, the combined SRS resource ID, i.e., Combined-srs-ResourceId, is configured in the SRS resource. The group of SRS resources includes the SRS resource itself and its combined SRS resource (s) . For the case 2+1, the value of maxNrofCombinedSRS-Resources is one; and for the case 1+1+1, the value of maxNrofCombinedSRS-Resources is two.

[0116] In a second example, the signalling is added in an SRS resource set configuration to indicate which SRS resources are combined. For example, as shown in the following SRS resource set configuration, the group of SRS resources, i.e., Group-srs-Resources, is configured in the SRS resource set. The value of maxNrofSRS-GroupPerSet is 2, which means that the maximum number of groups of SRS resources in an SRS resource set is two. For the case 2+1, the value of maxNrofCombinedSRS-ResourcesPerGroup is two which means a 3-port SRS resource group includes two SRS resources; and for the case 1+1+1, the value of maxNrofCombinedSRS-ResourcesPerGroup is three which means a 3-port SRS resource group includes three SRS resources.

[0117] In the first example, the group of the SRS resources are determined based on a signalling that is received in an SRS resource configuration and indicates one or more additional SRS resources to be combined with the SRS resource to form the group of SRS resources. In the second example, one or more groups of the SRS resources are determined based on a signalling that is received in an SRS resource set configuration and indicates a plurality of SRS resources to be combined to form the one or more groups of SRS resources.

[0118] The difference between the above two examples lies in that in which Information Element (IE) the signalling is configured. Besides, the number of combined SRS resources in the first example plus one equals the number of combined SRS resources in the second example, i.e., maxNrofCombinedSRS-Resources+1=maxNrofCombinedSRS-ResourcesPerGroup, since the combined SRS resources that form the 3-port SRS resource group additionally include the SRS resource itself in the first example.

[0119] Scheme 2: Implicitly configuring which SRS resources are combined

[0120] In this scheme, multiple SRS resources are grouped implicitly based on a predefined rule.

[0121] In a first example of this scheme, the rule may be based on the locations of the SRS resources in the SRS resource set. For example, the first 3-port SRS resource group may include the first 2-port SRS resource and the first single-port SRS resource, and the second 3-port SRS resource group may include the second 2-port SRS resource and the second single-port SRS resource for the case 2+1; the first 3-port SRS resource group includes the first three single-port SRS resources, and the second 3-port SRS resource group includes the last three single-port SRS resource for the case 1+1+1. The first SRS resource here refers to the SRS resource in the first place, or located at the beginning, in an  SRS resource set. Similarly, the second SRS resource here refers to the SRS resource in the second place, or located next to the first SRS resource, in an SRS resource set.

[0122] In this example, each group of the SRS resources may include a two-port SRS resource and a one-port SRS resource determined according to their locations in the SRS resource set; or each group of the SRS resources may include three one-port SRS resources determined according to their locations in the SRS resource set.

[0123] In a second example of this scheme, since each SRS resource is configured with an SRS resource ID, the rule may be based on the order of SRS resource IDs. For example, the first 3-port SRS resource group includes the 2-port SRS resource with a lower SRS resource ID and the single-port SRS resource with a lower SRS resource ID, and the second 3-port SRS resource group includes the 2-port SRS resource with a higher SRS resource ID and the single-port SRS resource with a higher SRS resource ID for the case 2+1; the first 3-port SRS resource group includes the three single-port SRS resources with lower SRS resource IDs and the second 3-port SRS resource group includes the three single-port SRS resource with higher SRS resource IDs for the case 1+1+1.

[0124] In this example, each group of the SRS resources may include a two-port SRS resource and a one-port SRS resource determined according to their SRS resource IDs; or each group of the SRS resources may include three one-port SRS resource determined according to their SRS resource IDs.

[0125] In one example of a 3Tx UE, it is assumed that the SRS resource set includes four SRS resources as shown in Table 1 below. Based on the first example of the scheme, the first 3-port SRS resource group includes SRS resource 1 and SRS resource 3 since they are the first 2-port SRS resource and the first single-port SRS resource in the SRS resource set; and the second 3-port SRS resource group includes SRS resource 2 and SRS resource 4. Based on the second example of the scheme, the first 3-port SRS resource group includes SRS resource 1 and SRS resource 4 since they are the 2-port SRS resource and the single-port SRS resource with lower SRS resource IDs; and the second 3-port SRS resource group includes SRS resource 2 and SRS resource 3.

[0126] Table 1: Configuration of SRS for codebook-based transmission for 3 antenna ports transmission

[0127] After determining the SRS resources for a 3-port SRS transmission, the following related issues also need to be resolved.

[0128] The first issue is the SRI indication. In current standard, for codebook-based transmission, the SRI field in a UL grant is used to indicate the SRS resource for PUSCH transmission. For 3Tx UE, if the 3-port SRS transmission is achieved by combining multiple SRS resources, the SRI field may be used to indicate which group of the SRS resources is used for PUSCH transmission and the number of PUSCH ports equals the total number of SRS ports of the SRS resources in the group. For example, if the value of SRI field is ‘0’ , the first 3-port SRS resource group is indicated for PUSCH transmission; and if the value of SRI filed is ‘1’ , the second 3-port SRS resource group is indicated. In the above example shown in Table 1, based on the first example of the second scheme, the first group of SRS resources includes SRS resource 1 and SRS resource 3 and the second group of SRS resources includes SRS resource 2 and SRS resource 4. If the SRI field equals ‘0’ , the first group of SRS resources, i.e., SRS resource 1 and SRS resource 3 are indicated for PUSCH transmission.

[0129] The second issue is the SRS resource configuration for DCI format 0_2. In current standard, SRS resources in srs-ResourceSetToAddModListDCI-0-2 are the first NSRS, 0_2 SRS resources in srs-ResourceSetToAddModList, where NSRS, 0_2 is the number of configured SRS resources in the SRS resource set configured by higher layer parameter srs-ResourceSetToAddModListDCI-0-2. For 3Tx UE, in one example, SRS resources in srs-ResourceSetToAddModListDCI-0-2 may be the first NSRS, 0_2 groups of SRS resources in srs-ResourceSetToAddModList. In another example, SRS resources in srs-ResourceSetToAddModListDCI-0-2 may be the first NSRS, 0_2 SRS resources in srs-ResourceSetToAddModList, where NSRS, 0_2 may be multiples of the size of a group of SRS  resources, i.e., for the case 2+1, NSRS, 0_2 is multiples of 2, and for the case 1+1+1, NSRS, 0_2 is multiples of 3. Here, the size of the group of SRS resources is the number of SRS resources in the group.

[0130] SRS port indexing in a 3-port SRS resource group

[0131] It has been agreed that PUSCH antenna ports are ports 1000, 1001, 1002 for a 3Tx UE. Thus, the SRS ports are also ports 1000, 1001 and 1002 since SRS and PUSCH share the same antenna ports. However, in current standard, the SRS ports of a M-port SRS resource are pi= 1000 + i and i=0, 1 …M -1. That is, the SRS ports of a 2-port SRS resource are ports 1000 and 1001, and the SRS port of a single-port SRS resource is port 1000. Thus, how to index the combined SRS resources needs be resolved. The following schemes are provided to index the SRS resources in a 3-port SRS resource group.

[0132] In the first scheme, in a group of SRS resources, the SRS port index is increased within a first SRS resource and then increased across following SRS resources based on their location in the group of SRS resources.

[0133] In this scheme, a group of SRS resources may be ordered based on the location of the SRS resources in the group. The SRS port index is increased firstly within the first SRS resource where the first SRS resource is the SRS resource in the first place of the group of SRS resources; and then the SRS port index is increased across other SRS resource in the following place of the group of SRS resources.

[0134] In one example of a 3Tx UE, it is assumed that the SRS resource set includes four SRS resources: SRS resource 1 to SRS resource 4. The first 3-port SRS resource group are {SRS resource 1 and SRS resource 2} and the second 3-port SRS resource group are {SRS resource 4 and SRS resource 3} . SRS resource 1 and SRS resource 3 are of 2-port and SRS resource 2 and SRS resource 4 are of single-port. Then, the SRS ports of SRS resource 1 are indexed as ports 1000 and 1001, and the SRS port of SRS resource 2 is port 1002. The SRS ports of SRS resource 3 are ports 1001 and 1002, and the SRS port of SRS resource 4 is port 1000 since SRS resource 4 is in the first place in the group and the SRS port index starts from the SRS port of SRS resource 4.

[0135] In the second scheme, in a group of SRS resources, the SRS port index is increased within an SRS resource with a lower SRS resource ID and then across SRS resources with higher SRS resource IDs.

[0136] Each SRS resource is configured with an SRS resource ID, so the group of SRS resources may be ordered based on their SRS resource IDs. The SRS port index is increased firstly within an SRS resource, e.g., the SRS resource with a lower SRS resource ID, and then the SRS port index is increased across other SRS resources in the group.

[0137] For example, single-port SRS resource 1, SRS resource 2 and SRS resource 3 are combined for a 3-port SRS, and the SRS resource IDs of the three SRS resources are 10, 30, 22. Then, the SRS ports of SRS resource 1, SRS resource 2 and SRS resource 3 are ports 1000, 1002 and 1001, respectively.

[0138] In the third scheme, in a group of SRS resources, the SRS port index may be based on startPosition or comb offset. In one example, the SRS port index is increased with an SRS resource with a larger startPosition or with a lower comb offset, and then increased across other combined SRS resources in the group. In another example, the SRS port index is increased with an SRS resource with a smaller startPosition or with a higher comb offset, and then increased across other combined SRS resources in the group.

[0139] The SRS resources in a 3-port SRS resource group may be TDMed (i.e., different SRS resources occupy different symbols) or be FDMed (i.e., different SRS resources occupy different combs (i.e., REs) ) . If the SRS resources are transmitted in TDMed manner, the transmit power of each SRS port may be higher to improve the performance of SRS. In such cases, the SRS port index is increased firstly within an SRS resource with a larger startPosition, and then the SRS port index is increased across other SRS resources with smaller startPosition in the group of the SRS resources. startPosition indicates the OFDM symbol location of the SRS resource within a slot, where value 0 refers to the last symbol, value 1 refers to the second last symbol, and so on. If the combined SRS resources are transmitted in FDMed manner, different comb offsets may be configured for different SRS resources. Comb offset indicates the start RE in a RB of a SRS resource. In such cases, the SRS port index is increased firstly within an SRS resource  with a lower comb offset and then the SRS port index is increased across other SRS resources with higher comb offsets in the group of the SRS resources.

[0140] Figure 5 illustrates an example of SRS port indexing across three single-port SRS resources based on startPosition in accordance with aspects of the present disclosure. In this example of a 3Tx UE, it is assumed that the 3-port SRS resource group includes SRS resource 1 502, SRS resource 2 504 and SRS resource 3 506 and each of the SRS resources is of single-port. As shown in Figure 5, in time domain of these SRS resources within a slot, the startPosition of the three SRS resources are startPosition 4, startPosition 2 and startPosition 3, respectively. The SRS port of SRS resource 1 502 is port 1000 since it is with the largest startPosition. The SRS ports of SRS resource 2 504 and SRS resource 3 506 are ports 1002 and 1001, respectively based on the order of startPosition.

[0141] In the fourth scheme, the SRS ports of a 2-port SRS resource are always ports 1000 and 10002, and the SRS port of a single-port SRS resource is port 1001.

[0142] In current standard, for non-coherent and partial coherent codebook PUSCH transmission, PUSCH antenna ports 1000 and 1002 in indicated TPMI (s) share PT-RS port 0, and PUSCH antenna port 1001 and 1003 in indicated TPMI (s) share PT-RS port 1. Therefore, for the case 2+1, the SRS ports of a 2-port SRS resource are ports 1000 and 10002, and the SRS port of a single-port SRS resource is port 1001. One benefit is that the SRS ports which share a same PTRS port are distributed in one SRS resource.

[0143] The SRS port index across different combined SRS resources has an impact on the SRS sequence generation. In TS 38.211, the SRS sequence of a multi-port SRS resource is generated by:

[0144] The cyclic shift αi for antenna port pi is given as

[0145] where

[0146] where is contained in the higher layer parameter transmissionComb and and is the number of antenna ports of the SRS resource. The maximum number of cyclic shifts is given in TS 38.211, and the KTC is the value of comb.

[0147] The quantities and are given by

[0148] - if the higher-layer parameter nrofSRS-Ports-n8 equals ports8tdm

[0149] - otherwise

[0150] The SRS sequence of a 3-port SRS transmission will be generated independently for each of the SRS resources in a 3-port SRS resource group. That is, when calculating the CS of the SRS sequence of a 2-port SRS resource,  and when calculating the CS of a single-port SRS resource,  no matter which SRS port indexes are determined as above.

[0151] Restriction on combined SRS resources in a 3-port SRS resource group

[0152] There are certain requirements for the SRS resources that can be combined to form a 3-port SRS resource group.

[0153] In frequency domain, the frequency locations of different combined SRS resources in a 3-port SRS resource group shall be the same so that the transmit power and channel sounding from different ports are the same, that is, different SRS resources in a 3-port SRS resource group are of the same comb value, same FreqScalingFactor which indicates the partial sounding factor, same freqDomainPosition, freqHopping which indicate the frequency position index, same freqDomainShift which adjusts the SRS allocation with respect to the reference point grid. If the different SRS resources are transmitted in FDMed manner, different comb offsets shall be configured for different SRS resources.

[0154] In time domain, the numbers of symbols and repetition factors of different SRS resources in a 3-port SRS resource group need to be the same, and the resourceType which indicates whether an SRS resource is periodic  / semi-persistent  / aperiodic needs to be the same as well. The gap of startPosition, which indicates the start symbol in a slot of an SRS resource, of different SRS resources is X symbol. If different SRS resources are transmitted by FDM, X=0; and if different SRS resources are transmitted by TDM, X is an integer larger than 0, e.g., X=1.

[0155] Figure 6 illustrates an example of time domain of TDM 3-port SRS resource group in accordance with aspects of the present disclosure. In this example of a 3Tx UE, it is assumed that the 3-port SRS resource group 610 includes SRS resource 1 of 2-port 602, SRS resource 2 of single-port 604, and the startPosition of the two SRS resources are start symbol 1 and start symbol 2, respectively. Three repetitions 610 are transmitted. The total number of symbols of the 3-port SRS transmission is six. The gap of startPosition, X, in this example equals to 1 between start symbol 1 and start symbol 2.

[0156] In spatial domain, the beams (i.e., spatialRelationInfo) of different SRS resources in a 3-port SRS resource group need to be the same to ensure the signal / data transmitted on different antenna ports are with the same beam. Regarding the transmit power, for the case 2+1, after calculating the transmit power of each SRS resource independently in the group, if the SRS resource of 2-port is transmitted no later than the SRS resource of single-port, the transmit power of the single-port SRS resource is multiplied by 1 / 2 so that the power of each port is the same; if the SRS resource of 2-port is  transmitted after the SRS resource of single-port, the transmit power of the single-port SRS resource is multiplied by 1 / 2 if the UE is capable of transmitting at PCMAX per OFDM symbol, where PCMAX is specified in TS 38.213.

[0157] If the above restrictions are not meet by the SRS resources in a 3-port SRS resource group, the frequency domain location and the beam are determined by the first SRS resource in the group of the SRS resources; and the time domain location is also determined by the first SRS resource, but the startPosition of each following SRS resource equals startPosition of the previous SRS resource minus one in sequence. In this manner, the frequency domain location and the time domain location as described above can be determined.

[0158] Figure 7 illustrates a flowchart of a method in accordance with aspects of the present disclosure. The operations of the method may be implemented by a UE as described herein. In some implementations, the UE may execute a set of instructions to control the function elements of the UE to perform the described functions.
