Description

[0001] Description

[0002] title

[0003] Lighting device, in particular for a motor vehicle

[0004] State of the art

[0005] Radomes, or covers, for automotive radar systems installed in the grille are positioned behind the manufacturer's emblem in the center of the grille. For further customization, radome illumination is desirable, minimizing radar function.

[0006] Disclosure of the invention

[0007] One aspect of the description relates to the following subject matter: A lighting device, in particular for a motor vehicle, for the visible representation of at least one ornament, the lighting device comprising: a plurality of light sources for generating light; at least one outer light-guiding section which, with respect to an optical axis of the lighting device, is arranged outside a radar coupling surface of at least one radar-transparent section for coupling in radar beams, wherein the at least one outer light-guiding section guides the light generated and coupled in by the light sources from a respective light coupling surface towards the at least one radar-transparent section;the at least one radar-transparent section with the radar coupling surface for coupling in the radar radiation and with an output surface for coupling out the coupled radar radiation and for emitting a light distribution that represents the at least one ornament, depending on light introduced into an inner light-guiding section of the radar-transparent section by means of the outer light-guiding section; and at least one surrounding section that surrounds the radar-transparent section at least in sections or is arranged adjacent to the radar-transparent section, wherein an outer surface of the at least one surrounding section is arranged at least in sections offset from the output surface of the radar-transparent section, and wherein an intermediate section connects the radar-transparent section and the at least one surrounding section to one another.

[0008] Advantageously, at least one ornament can be emitted separately from the surrounding area. However, it is also possible to use a radar component whose radar cone is emitted through the radar-transparent section.

[0009] An advantageous example is characterized in that the coupling-out surface of the radar-transparent section is raised relative to the outer surface of the surrounding section.

[0010] Advantageously, the ornament can be emitted from a raised surface, the coupling surface of the radar-transparent section.

[0011] An advantageous example is characterized in that a size of the at least one ornament, in particular a lateral outer edge of the at least one ornament, is limited in the direction of the intermediate section by a first distance between an outer region of a light-guiding surface of the outer light-guiding section and a lateral edge of a laterally arranged reflection surface with an increased scattering effect compared to a remaining reflection section and by a second distance between a lateral edge of a laterally arranged light-transparent opening of a transmission-inhibiting layer and / or a partially transparent layer and the lateral edge of the laterally arranged reflection surface, in particular by a sum of the two distances.

[0012] Thus, the maximum extent of the ornament or the maximum visible illuminated outer edge, and thus the overall size of the ornament, is advantageously limited by the size or the lateral outer edge. At the same time, the desired viewing angle stability and homogeneous illumination of at least one ornament are maintained. Furthermore, it ensures that a minimum distance is maintained between the outer light-guiding section and the intermediate section to prevent collision.

[0013] An advantageous example is characterized in that the outer region of the light-guiding surface of the outer light-guiding section has a minimal distance between the outer light-guiding section and an inner surface of the intermediate section.

[0014] An advantageous example is characterized in that a size of the at least one ornament, in particular a lateral outer edge of the at least one ornament, is limited in the direction of the intermediate section by a further distance between a lateral edge of a reflection section and a lateral edge of a laterally arranged reflection surface with an increased scattering effect compared to the remaining reflection section and by a second distance between a lateral edge of a laterally arranged light-transparent opening of a transmission-inhibiting layer and / or a partially transparent layer and the lateral edge of the laterally arranged reflection surface, in particular by a sum of the two distances.

[0015] This advantageously limits the maximum extension of the ornament and thus the size of the ornament.

[0016] An advantageous example is characterized in that a distance between one or the lateral edge of one or the reflection section and one or the lateral edge of one or the laterally arranged reflection surface with increased scattering effect compared to the remaining reflection section 410 is greater than or equal to zero.

[0017] By minimizing this distance, the available ornamental extent can be increased.

[0018] An advantageous example is characterized in that an inner edge of the intermediate section or its inward-facing edge is further away from one or the lateral edge of the respective laterally arranged reflective surface than one or the outer region of one or the light-guiding surface of the outer light-guiding section. This advantageously utilizes a usable size for the ornament while simultaneously providing a raised edge for the ornament.

[0019] An advantageous example is characterized in that the at least one outer light coupling section guides the coupled-in light of the light sources into a light guide section of the intermediate section, wherein the light guide section of the intermediate section guides the light into the inner light guide section of the radar-transparent section.

[0020] This example advantageously leads to a reduction in components and a simplification of the structure.

[0021] An advantageous example is characterized in that the at least one outer light coupling section protrudes from the intermediate section in the direction of the light source.

[0022] As a result, the light coupling section is separated from the intermediate section and can be designed for light shaping, for example, over TIR elements assigned to the respective light sources.

[0023] An advantageous example is characterized in that at least one reflection layer delimits the light guide section at least in sections.

[0024] Advantageously, at least one reflective layer increases efficiency.

[0025] The drawing shows:

[0026] Figure 1 in a schematic section a

[0027] lighting equipment; and

[0028] Figures 2 to 7 each show an example of the lighting device in a schematic section.

[0029] Figure 1 shows a lighting device 2, in particular for a motor vehicle, in a schematic representation in a section BB. The lighting device 2 comprises a plurality of light sources for emitting light and a light-guiding section 200, which, with respect to an optical axis A of the lighting device 2, is arranged, for example, radially outside a radar coupling surface 402 of a radar-transparent section 400 for coupling radar beams 6 and extends at least in sections along an imaginary circumferential section or section 220, which is arranged at the transition of section 400 into an inner light-guiding section 406. The imaginary section 220 can be closed or at least open on one side. It can be provided that the section 220 is adapted to a predetermined installation space for the lighting device 2. As a result, the light-guiding section 200 can also be adapted or adapted to the installation space.

[0030] The imaginary path 220 can also be open on both sides or multiple sides. The path only needs to be symmetrical if the logo to be illuminated is located in the center of the vehicle. Consequently, the measures described here can easily be applied to asymmetrical ornaments or ornaments that require asymmetrical illumination.

[0031] In the example, the light sources 100 are each embodied as a single LED. It can be provided that a plurality of LEDs are arranged on one or more circuit boards 108 and form the light sources 100. Furthermore, it can be provided that an LED strip provides the light sources. LEDs with one or more selected colors or RGB LEDs can be used, whereby the individual light sources of the RGB LEDs can generate the colors directly, or the respective color is generated using blue light or UV-pumped color converters / fluorescent dyes.

[0032] The circuit board 108 can be designed to be continuous or divided. The LEDs arranged on the continuous and / or divided circuit board 108 can be arranged in groups of varying numbers and with varying or uniform spacing between the LEDs or the groups.

[0033] In the example shown, the light sources 100 are arranged in a plane 110.

[0034] It can be provided that the LEDs are arranged in different planes. The light-guiding section 200 comprises at least one light coupling surface 202 for coupling in the light from the light sources 100, 100a, 100b. The light-guiding section 200 guides the coupled light 102 from the light coupling surface 202 to a light transition region 300 between the light-guiding section 200 and the radar-transparent section 400.

[0035] In addition, the light-guiding section 200 has a light-guiding surface 208 towards the light transition region 300, which is formed by a convex outer contour 206 facing away from an imaginary extension of the optical axis A of the lighting device 2.

[0036] The curvature of the convex outer contour 206 can be adapted to the specified installation space for the lighting device 2. Furthermore, the curvature of the convex outer contour 206 can be provided with different degrees of curvature at corresponding points along the imaginary path 220. In an exemplary embodiment, the light-guiding surface 208 is created by rotating the convex outer contour 206 around the optical axis A.

[0037] The lighting device 2 further comprises the radar-transparent section 400 with the radar coupling surface 402 for coupling in the radar radiation 6 and with a coupling-out surface 404 for coupling out the coupled radar radiation 6 and for emitting a light distribution 106 depending on light 104 introduced into the inner radar-transparent section 400 by means of the light-guiding section 200.

[0038] The radar-transparent section 400 is designed to couple incoming radar radiation into the radar-transparent section 400 at the radar coupling surface 402 and to couple it out at the coupling-out surface 404.

[0039] In the example, the radar radiation 6 is generated and / or processed by a radar device or component 8. The radar component 8 is consequently arranged with respect to the radar-transparent section 400 such that the radar component 8 receives and / or transmits radar waves through the radar-transparent section 400. The radar component 8 receives and / or transmits the radar waves with a magnetic field direction and a field direction of the electric field, wherein a preferred direction V of the at least one heating wire 10 coincides with one of the magnetic field directions of the radar waves or encloses an angle of less than 15°, in particular less than 10°, in particular less than 5°, with the magnetic field direction.

[0040] The radar component 8 receives and / or transmits the radar waves with a wavelength, wherein sections of the at least one heating wire 10 following an imaginary straight line are smaller than the wavelength of the radar waves. This means that the radar component implements a transmitting function, a receiving function, or a transmitting and receiving function for radar radiation.

[0041] The radar-transparent section 400 comprises at least one, in particular a plurality of heating elements or wires 10.

[0042] The heating wire 10 is shown in the example as a plurality of heating coils.

[0043] In this example, the heating coils consist of an electrically conductive material, in particular a metal wire, such as a copper wire and / or nickel wire. The heating wire 10 is made of copper / nickel and is inserted into the panel in a loop-like configuration, so that the heating wire 10 is arranged in the form of a 2D heating coil.

[0044] It is therefore proposed to adjust the luminance according to the orientation of the heating wire 10 or its preferred direction V, in order to achieve the highest possible overall coupling efficiency. The luminous intensity of the light sources that exhibit coupling along the preferred direction is adjusted. This reduces the energy required to achieve a specific luminance in the center of the ornament.

[0045] In this example, the radar-transparent section 400 and the light-guiding section 200 are made of a material transparent to visible light, such as PC, PU, PUR, PMMA, or silicone. Different materials can also be provided for the respective sections. The radar-transparent section 400, for example, consists of a multi-layer system: polycarbonate with an output coating, a polycarbonate carrier structure with embedded heating wires, a designer chrome-look film with a design print and, for example, an indium or silicon layer for the chrome look, as well as a PU overcoat or a final hardcoat.

[0046] For example, it is provided that the at least one heating wire 10 leads at least partially through the inner light guide section 406 of the radar-transparent section 400.

[0047] The heating wire 10 is thus integrated into the radar-transparent section 400 and is surrounded by material transparent to visible light. A structural height of the illumination device along the optical axis A remains correspondingly in a range of approximately a multiple of A / 2 of the radar radiation 6, and at the same time, a distance 302 of the light transition region 300 is increased. In one example, the radar radiation has a frequency of 76.5 GHz, whereby the structural height of the illumination device 2 is 1.13 mm to 1.4 mm when polycarbonate is used as the radar-transparent section 400. At multiples of this structural height, a transmission of the radar radiation 6 decreases with increasing order of the multiple.

[0048] It can be provided that a surface 12 of the heating wire 10 comprises the color white or a shade of white, in particular in the form of a layer applied to the heating wire 10.

[0049] In the example, the heating wire 10 has a wire diameter of 0.2 to 0.4 mm. The heating wire 10 without the applied layer would be visible through the radar-transparent section 400 when the light source 100, 100a, 100b is switched off. When the light source 100, 100a, 100b is switched on, a shadow of the heating wire 10 without the applied layer would be visible through the radar-transparent section. The applied layer causes the heating wire 10 to be less visible when the light source 100, 100a, 100b is switched off. When the light source is switched on, the applied layer causes light incident on the surface 12 of the heating wire 10 to be scattered in multiple directions, whereby the shadow of the heating wire 10 is less visible, particularly in parts of the heating wire. The light sources 100 are operated by means of at least one control unit 500.

[0050] The radar-transparent section 400 comprises light-transparent openings 408a, 408b in a transmission-inhibiting layer 408 with reduced light transmittance. In the example, the transmission-inhibiting layer 408 is provided as a lacquer layer. Films or other materials or intermediate layers are also conceivable. The transmission-inhibiting layer 408 can also be opaque.

[0051] By means of the light-transparent openings 408a, 408b in the transmission-inhibiting layer 408, any desired pattern or logo in the sense of the ornament 4 can be depicted, through which the light 102 introduced into the radar-transparent section 400 exits. This results in illumination of the ornament formed by the light-transparent openings 408a, 408b, which is particularly visible in the plan view of the lighting device 2.

[0052] It can be provided that a reflection section 410 of the radar-transparent section 400, oriented in the direction of the coupling surface 202 for coupling the radar radiation 6, comprises at least in sections reflection surfaces 412a, 412b with increased scattering effect for incident light. As a result, the light 102b introduced into the radar-transparent section 400, which impinges on the reflection surfaces 412a, 412b, is scattered, whereby more light rays are directed in the direction of the optical axis A and the light-transparent openings 408a, 408b. Thus, more light rays pass through the openings 408a, 408b. The reflection section region is a reflection region for visible light—not for radar radiation.

[0053] It can be provided that the reflective surfaces 412a, 412b with increased scattering effect are arranged such that the reflected and scattered light passes through the respectively associated light-transparent opening 408a, 408b. In the example, the reflective surfaces 412a, 412b are aligned and arranged flush with the openings 408a, 408b. It can be provided that a partially transparent layer 416, which has a visual appearance of, for example, chrome-like, and has a higher transmittance than the transmission-inhibiting layer 408, closes the openings 408a, 408b at least in sections. In the example, the partially transparent layer 416 is continuous across the illumination device 2. The partially transparent layer 416 can be arranged before or after the transmission-inhibiting layer 408 in the light exit direction. Alternatively, other appearances of the partially transparent layer 416 are conceivable, such as color filters.Due to the partially transparent layer 416, the appearance of the pattern imaged through the openings 408a, 408b can be influenced even when the light source 100a, 100b is switched off.

[0054] It can be provided that the lighting device 2 is designed as part of a front grille for a motor vehicle, or is integrated or can be integrated into it.

[0055] It can be provided that the at least one heating wire 10 is arranged between the associated light-transparent opening 408a, 408b and the reflection section 410, in particular one of the reflection surfaces 412a, 412b with increased scattering effect.

[0056] It can be provided that the light-guiding region 406 is manufactured separately, at least in sections, in particular as a heating segment. The light-guiding section 406 can include the heating wire 10.

[0057] Figure 2 shows an example of the illumination device 2. The illumination device 2 comprises at least one surrounding section 600, which at least partially surrounds the radar-transparent section 400 or is arranged adjacent to the radar-transparent section 400, wherein an outer surface 604 of the at least one surrounding section 600, in particular running partially parallel to the circumferential path 220, is arranged at least partially offset from the coupling-out surface 404 of the radar-transparent section 400, and wherein an intermediate section 800 connects the radar-transparent section 400 and the at least one surrounding section 600 to one another. In one example, the coupling-out surface 404 of the radar-transparent section 400 is raised relative to the outer surface 604 of the surrounding section 600.

[0058] In an example of the lighting device 2 (not shown), the outer surface 604 of the surrounding section 600 is raised at least in sections relative to the coupling-out surface 404 of the radar-transparent section 400. Thus, the coupling-out surface 404, from which the light distribution representing the at least one ornament 4 is emitted, is recessed relative to the outer surface 604 of the surrounding section 600.

[0059] A size of the at least one ornament 4, in particular a lateral outer edge of the at least one ornament 4, in the direction of the intermediate section 800 is limited by a first distance a between an outer region 216 of a light-guiding surface 206 of the outer light-guiding section 200 and a lateral edge 422a-b of a laterally arranged reflection surface 412a-b with an increased scattering effect compared to a remaining reflection section 410, and by a second distance b between a lateral edge 418a-b of a laterally arranged light-transparent opening 408a-b of a transmission-inhibiting layer 408 and / or a partially transparent layer 416 and the lateral edge 422a-b of the laterally arranged reflection surface 412a-b, in particular by a sum of the two distances a, b.

[0060] The distance b is responsible for the viewing direction stability, i.e., the angle at which the emitted at least one ornament 4 is still clearly visible to a viewer relative to the optical axis A. In other words, the larger the edge of the reflective surfaces 412 is selected according to the distance b, the larger the viewing angle relative to the optical axis A at which the at least one ornament 4 can still be perceived as such by the viewer. The distance b is preferably selected to be the same or almost the same for the reflective surfaces 412 in order to achieve a homogeneous appearance of the at least one ornament 4 across the desired viewing angle range.

[0061] In other words, for the reflection surface 412a-b, which comprises, for example, white lacquer, an offset with a width or distance b is provided in order to achieve a defined angular stability as desired. The larger b, the higher the angular stability, but the lower the luminance in the center of at least one ornament 4, or the higher the energy requirement to achieve a desired luminance. The width b or the distance a determines the minimum required distance between the end of the white lacquer surface provided with the offset and the back of the outer light-guiding section 200.

[0062] In Figure 2, the opening 408a is not bounded outwards, i.e. laterally, by the opaque layer 408, but by the partially transparent layer 416.

[0063] As indicated in Figure 2, the distances and spacings mentioned in this description, with the exception of the distance d, are oriented perpendicular to the optical axis A. Consequently, the reference points of the distances are located on imaginary straight lines parallel to the optical axis A.

[0064] The lateral arrangement of the elements or parts thereof described in this description is understood to mean a spatial orientation in which the respective element is positioned on or near one or more sides of the offset radar-transparent section 400, wherein the positioning occurs in a vertical plane relative to the optical axis A of the illumination device 2. In particular, the laterally arranged elements are those which, in a section of the illumination device 2 that includes the optical axis A, have the smallest distance to an imaginary or existing edge 803 between the intermediate section 800 and the radar-transparent section 400.

[0065] It is provided that the outer region 216 of the light-guiding surface 206 of the outer light-guiding section 200 has a minimum distance d between the outer light-guiding section 200 and an inner surface 802 of the intermediate section 800.

[0066] As can be seen in Figure 2, the risk of collision between the outer light-guiding section 200 and the inner side of the intermediate section 800 is prevented by the minimum distance d. In one example, the light-transparent section 406 comprises polycarbonate (PC), while the outer layer of the radar-transparent section 400, which is arranged toward the coupling-out surface 404, comprises polyurethane (PUR).

[0067] In one example, it is provided that the size of the at least one ornament 4, in particular a lateral outer edge of the at least one ornament 4, is limited in the direction of the intermediate section 800 by a further distance c between a lateral edge 420 of a reflection section 410 and a lateral edge 422a-b of a laterally arranged reflection surface 412a-b with an increased scattering effect compared to the remaining reflection section 410 and by a second distance b between a lateral edge 418a-b of a laterally arranged light-transparent opening 408a-b of a transmission-inhibiting layer 408 and / or a partially transparent layer 416 and the lateral edge 422a-b of the laterally arranged reflection surface 412a-b, in particular by a sum of the two distances c, b.

[0068] A distance c between a lateral edge 420 of the reflection section 410 and the lateral edge 422a-b of the laterally arranged reflection surface 412a-b with increased scattering effect compared to the remaining reflection section 410 is greater than or equal to zero.

[0069] In one example, it is proposed that an inner edge of the intermediate section 800 or its inwardly facing edge 803 is further away from one or the lateral edge 422a-b of one or the respective laterally arranged reflection surface 412a-b than one or the outer region 216 of one or the light-guiding surface 206 of the outer light-guiding section 200.

[0070] This results in the distance c between the end of the offset white lacquer surface and an adhesive edge between the inner light guide section 406 and the outer light guide section 200.

[0071] At the same time, the elevation creates a distance x between the outer edge and the beginning of the light-emitting surface of the indium foil (in this example, the laser-perforated contour area). It is therefore proposed to design the logo or ornament 4 to be illuminated, or the size of the maximum extent of the logo or ornament contour to be illuminated, whereby the distance c is not less than zero, taking into account the panel thickness and coupling collar thickness. If the maximum extent and positioning of the coupling collar or outer light-guiding section 200, along with manufacturing and assembly tolerances, are determined before scaling the logo size, a collision between the collar or light-guiding section 200 and the panel or the intermediate section 800 can be prevented.

[0072] In Figure 2, the partially transparent layer 416, which appears chrome-like in appearance, for example, and has a higher transmittance, delimits the opening 408a from the outside laterally. In the example, the partially transparent layer 416 is thus interrupted by openings 408 across the illumination device 2. The partially transparent layer 416 is arranged in front of the transmission-inhibiting layer 408 in the light exit direction. Alternatively, both the partially transparent layer 416 and the transmission-inhibiting layer 408 delimit the lateral edge 418a-b of the laterally arranged light-transparent opening 408a-b. The respective opening 408a-b is thus delimited by at least one edge of the layers 416 and / or 408.

[0073] A first indium layer or reflection layer 438 is arranged between the light-guiding section 406 and an outer subsection of the radar-transparent section 400 comprising the coupling-out surface 404.

[0074] A further indium layer or reflection layer 448 comprises the reflection sections 412 on the side facing the inner light guide section 406.

[0075] Figures 3 and 4 illustrate, in a schematic section, different examples of the lighting device 2, wherein the distance c was chosen to be zero. The two examples differ in the nature of the layer 416, which in the example of Figure 3 delimits the lateral edge 418a of the opening 408a. In the example of Figure 4, however, the transmission-inhibiting layer 408 delimits the edge 418a of the opening 408a. Accordingly, a minimum distance X-min of the distance x results. Thus, if contour lighting is selected only in the interior area of the logo or ornament 4 to be illuminated, the possibility of a larger extension of the logo or ornament 4 in the day design is obtained, since the unlit chrome-look logo area not printed with top print may protrude beyond the offset area of the lower chrome foil, as shown in Figure 3.

[0076] Figures 5 to 7 show further examples of the illumination device 2, wherein the at least one outer light coupling section 200 guides the coupled light from the light sources 100 into a light guide section 806 of the intermediate section 800, and wherein the light guide section 806 of the intermediate section 800 guides the light into the inner light guide section 406 of the radar-transparent section 400. The at least one outer light coupling section 200 protrudes from the intermediate section 800 in the direction of the light source 100.

[0077] At least one reflection layer 438, 448, 848 delimits the light guide section 806 at least in sections.

[0078] In the example of Figure 5, the side of the illumination device 2 facing the radar component does not include a reflective layer, whereas in the example of Figure 6, the reflective layer 448, for example, formed as an indium layer, delimits the light-guiding section 806 of the intermediate section 800 at least in sections. Thus, the light-guiding section 806 is delimited on two sides by the layers 448 and 438 with a reflective effect.

[0079] In the example of Figure 7, a reflection layer 848 is formed separately from the reflection layer 448 of the radar-transparent section 400 and delimits the light-guiding section 806. Thus, the light-guiding section 806 is delimited on two sides by the layers 438 and 448 with a reflection effect.

[0080] According to Figures 5 to 7, a direct integration of the light guide optimization into the offset overall panel is proposed. It is proposed to attach a short LED coupling stub in the sense of at least one outer light guide section 200, for example, to the lowest point of the offset such that the associated light source 100 in the form of an LED couples as tangentially as possible into the lower part of the panel layer. In this case, the panel or the lighting device 2 itself, through its technically required offset between the radome and design surface, is used as a coupling collar into the radar-transparent part of the panel. The upper edge of the offset is given a geometry predetermined by the lighting technology side in order to ensure optimal and homogeneous light distribution of the coupled light into the logo or ornament 4 to be illuminated.Since the reflective sections 448, 438 are applied as foil, in this case indium foil, over the panel surface, this layer is used to reflect light for a freeform coupling collar or collar back. An intersecting surface with air can be created on the underside, or a light guide function can be realized there by placing a reflective foil or reflective coating.

[0081] If, for example, a PVD-coated reflective layer is selected for the inside of the step or intermediate section 800, this offers two advantages: Firstly, it is very difficult to pre-emboss films with consistent homogeneity on free-form surfaces, also limited by the dimension of the step. A partial coating process directly on the substrate of the panel on the inside would be possible for all dimensions and curvatures. Secondly, a one-piece reflective film that is also in the radar-transmitting range would also have to be radar-transparent and thus would not have ideal reflective properties due to the material used and the technically possible layer thickness. The inner free-form area of the step or intermediate section 800, however, does not lie in the radar cone and could therefore also be realized using more highly reflective materials and layer thicknesses. In the radar-transparent region, the reflection from the underside continues via an indium foil, for example. This is shown as an example in Figure 7.
