[0001] TERNARY INSECTICIDAL COMPOSITION COMPRISING SPIROMESIFEN, FLUBENDIAMIDE AND EMAMECTIN BENZOATE

[0002] FIELD OF THE INVENTION

[0003] The present invention relates to stable synergistic insecticidal composition for the control of plant and crop pests including insect pests. More particularly, the present invention relates to a stable synergistic insecticidal composition comprising A) Compound of Formula I, chemically known as 3-mesityl-2-oxo-l-oxaspiro[4.4]non-3-en-4-yl 3, 3 -dimethylbutyr ate or its agrochemically acceptable salts, esters and derivatives; B) Emamectin or its agrochemically acceptable salts, esters and derivatives; and C) Compound of Formula II, chemically known as 3-iodo-A'-(2-mesyl- l , l - dimethylethyl)-A-{4-[ 1 ,2,2,2-tetrafluoro- 1 (trifhroromethyl)ethyl]-o-tolyl}phthalamide or its agrochemically acceptable salts, esters and derivatives. The present invention also relates to a process for preparation of such stable synergistic insecticidal composition for synergistic and efficacious control of insect pests.

[0004] BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

[0005] Background description includes information that may be useful in understanding the present invention. It is not an admission that any of the information provided herein is prior art or relevant to the present invention, or that any publication specifically or implicitly referenced is prior art.

[0006] Crop protection is critical from early stages of crop development. Preventing pests and diseases at the root of the crop during root development leads to increased crop health and yield. The vulnerability of crops to pests makes pest control one of the major management components of the total crop production system. Insects are very destructive to crop plants and can significantly reduce crop yields and quality. Insecticides help minimize this damage by controlling insect pests.

[0007] Insecticides are used widely and very frequently in commercial agriculture and have enabled an enormous increase in crop yields and product quality which ultimately increased the ease to farmers in term of economic advantage as well as ease of farming activities. Practical agricultural experience has shown that the repeated and exclusive application of an individual active compound in the control of insect pests leads in many cases to a selection of those pests which have developed natural or adapted resistance against the active compound in question. Effective control of these pests with the active compound in question is then no longer possible.

[0008] It is always preferable to be able to reduce the amount of chemical agents released into the environment while still ensuring effective pest control. Although pest control agent combinations have been studied, a high synergistic action has not always been found. There is however a need for improvement of these combinations. Single active compositions used over a long period of time has resulted in resistance. With the onset of resistance to certain pests, there is a need in the art for a combination of actives that decrease the chances of resistance and improves the spectrum of disease and insect pest control.

[0009] In order to reduce the risk of insect pests becoming resistant to certain active compounds, mixtures of different active compounds are nowadays conventionally employed for controlling insect pests. By combining active compounds having different mechanisms of action, it is possible to ensure successful control over a relatively long period of time.

[0010] There also exists the need for insect pest control agents that combine knock-down activity with prolonged control, that is, fast action with long lasting action.

[0011] It is therefore an object of the present invention to provide insecticidal composition which (i) reduces dosage rate, (ii) enhances the spectrum of activity or combining knock-down activity with prolonged control or (iii) provides resistance management or (iv) is stable for longer period and has extended, improved shelf life.

[0012] Insecticidal compositions that can be applied at as low a dose as possible and be effective in controlling pest species of insects while causing as little harm as possible to beneficial insects and minimal disturbance in the environment are in demand by the farming community. Insects are very destructive to crops and can result in significant loss of crop yield and quality, which results in economic loss to the grower and increased cost to the consumer. Combinations of insecticides are typically used to broaden the spectrum of insect control, to minimize the doses of chemicals used, to retard resistance development and to reduce the cost of treatment through additive effect. Although, many combinations of insecticidal agents have been studied, a synergistic effect is rarely attained. Therefore, there is still a need for novel insecticidal composition comprising combination of insecticides which have different chemistry but are broad spectrum to cover efficacious control of large number of insect pests, which also exhibits synergistically enhanced action, a broader scope of activity at a reduced cost of treatment.

[0013] It is an object of the present invention to provide, mixtures and compositions which, when applied at a reduced total amount of active compounds, have improved activity against the harmful pests and a broadened activity spectrum. It is a further object of the present invention to provide, mixtures and compositions which provide effective resistance management and insect pests control, at application rates which are as low as possible.

[0014] There is a need for an insecticidal formulation that is highly efficient, non- toxic, covers a broader spectrum of insects and is environment friendly and economical. Accordingly, there exists a continuous need for new insecticidal combinations to be applied so as to provide an economical and effective solution in terms of insect control, yield, plant growth, broader crop protection spectrum, reduce the burden on the environment / farmers, healthy foliage, saves labour cost and is yet cost-effective to the end user.

[0015] Further, in general use, the insecticide actives are used in the form of a dilute aqueous composition because it can attain a good interaction with the target organism, such as plants and insects. However, most active insecticide compounds that are used as insecticides are only sparingly or even insoluble in water. The low solubility of such compounds present the challenges and difficulties to formulator in formulating insecticide compounds in stable formulations that can be easily stored for a long time and which still have a high stability and effective activity until end use. This problem especially occurs and may get worsen if more than one active compound is present in the composition. For the reasons mentioned above there is a need to provide further composition of three insecticides as actives having synergistic insect pest control properties. This object is achieved according to the invention by providing the present stable synergistic insecticidal composition.

[0016] There are various prior arts which disclose compositions comprising combination of insecticide actives with diamide insecticide with other insecticides. Some of such prior arts are listed below:

[0017] CN101601394 discloses synergistic insecticidal composition of Flubendiamide and Emamectin benzoate. The weight percentages of raw materials for preparation of the product are respectively: 3-20% of Flubendiamide, 1-10% of emamectin benzoate, and 70-96% of additives.

[0018] IN202121039285 discloses an oil dispersion agrochemical composition comprising: a. Emamectin benzoate present in amount of 0.1% - 20% w / w; b. an active ingredient selected from class of an insecticide or combination thereof present in amount of 0.1% - 30% w / w; c. Poly alkyleneoxide modified Heptamethyl trisiloxane (modified trisiloxane), a super wetting-spreading-penetrating agent is present in an amount of 1% to 10% w / w; d. carrier selected from pongamia oil or palm oil or jojoba oil or combination thereof or blend with vegetable oil present in an amount of 10% to 80% w / w; and one or more formulation excipients.

[0019] However, the prior art formulations have not been found to be effective for control of wide range of insect pests affecting the crops and plants at the same time. Thus, there is a need for a composition which overcomes some of the existing problems and can be prepared easily without much complex manufacturing process.

[0020] Insecticidal compounds of the present invention have an excellent environmental profile, are essentially non-toxic to mammals and other vertebrates, and have exhibited low toxicity towards most non-target invertebrates, including beneficial insects.

[0021] In light of the above, there is still a need for novel insecticidal composition that exhibit synergistically enhanced action, a broader scope of activity and reduced cost of treatment. So, there is a need for a composition comprising A) Compound of Formula I, chemically known as 3- mesityl-2-oxo-l-oxaspiro[4.4]non-3-en-4-yl 3, 3 -dimethylbutyrate or its agrochemically acceptable salts, esters and derivatives; B) Emamectin or its agrochemically acceptable salts, esters and derivatives; and C) Compound of Formula II, chemically known as 3-iodo-A'-(2-mesyl-l,l- dimethylethyl)-A-{4-[l,2,2,2-tetrafhroro-l(trifhioromethyl)ethyl]-c>-tolyl}phthalamide or its agrochemically acceptable salts, esters and derivatives, which overcomes some of the existing problems and can be prepared easily without much complex manufacturing process.

[0022] Accordingly, the present invention provides a stable synergistic insecticidal composition comprising components (compounds) having different basic structures and different functions with well-suited to each other, and a method for controlling plant insect pests. Therefore, the present invention provides a stable synergistic insecticidal composition comprising A) Compound of Formula I, chemically known as 3-mesityl-2-oxo-l-oxaspiro[4.4]non-3-en-4-yl 3,3- dimethylbutyrate or its agrochemically acceptable salts, esters and derivatives; B) Emamectin or its agrochemically acceptable salts, esters and derivatives; and C) Compound of Formula II, chemically known as 3-iodo-A'-(2-mesyl-l,l-dimethylethyl)-A-{4-[l,2,2,2-tetrafluoro- l(trifluoromethyl)ethyl]-c>-tolyl}phthalamide or its agrochemically acceptable salts, esters and derivatives.

[0023] Compound of Formula I, chemically known as 3-mesityl-2-oxo-l-oxaspiro[4.4]non-3-en-4-yl 3,3- dimethylbutyrate, is an insecticidal / acaricidal compound derived from spirocyclic tetronic acids that acts effectively against whiteflies and mites via inhibition of acetyl CoA-carboxylase, a lipid metabolism enzyme. [0184] A synergistic effect of two or more products exists whenever the action of an active ingredient combination is greater than the sum of the actions of the individual components. Synergism was calculated by using Colby’s method (Weeds, vol. 15 No. 1 (Jan 1967), pp. 20-2.

[0185] The synergistic action expected for a given combination of two active components can be calculated as follows:

[0186] XY

[0187] E = (X + Y) - 100

[0188] The synergistic action expected for a given combination of three active components can be calculated as follows: (XY+YZ+XZ) (XYZ)

[0189] E = (X + Y + Z) - + -

[0190] 100 10000

[0191] Where:

[0192] E represents expected percentage of pesticidal control for the combination of the two or three actives ingredients at defined doses (for example equal to x, y and z, respectively).

[0193] X is the percentage of pesticidal control observed by the compound (Compound of Formula I) at a defined dose (equal to x).

[0194] Y is the percentage of pesticidal control observed by the compound (Emamectin Benzoate) at a defined dose (equal to y).

[0195] Z is the percentage of pesticidal control observed by the compound (Compound of Formula II) at a defined dose (equal to z).

[0196] When the percentage of pesticidal control observed for the combination is greater than the expected percentage, there is a synergism effect.

[0197] Observed control (%) Ratio = -

[0198] Expected control (%)

[0199] Ratio of O / E > 1 , synergism observed

[0200] The present invention is illustrated by way of examples, the examples are meant for illustrative purposes and should not be construed as limiting.

[0201] Experiment for Synergistic activity of composition of present invention:

[0202] Details of experiment on Chilli crop:

[0203] Field experiment for synergistic activity of Compound of Formula I, Emamectin Benzoate and Compound of Formula II for the control of Fruit borer and yellow mite pest in chilli crop was conducted at farmer field, Udaipur (Rajasthan). To evaluate the synergistic effect, Chilli (Variety: Kashi Anmol) crop was sown in 4 m x 5 m plots maintaining 30 cm x 30 cm plant distance with three replications and in Randomized Block Design (RBD).The treatments were applied as foliar application at the ETL level of insect population. Each active component was applied at recommended doses in different ternary and binary combinations. Solo components were also taken for comparison. The treatment details are as under: The treatments T1 to T28 were used as foliar application whereas no treatment was done for T29 control treatment. Observations for Fruit borer Helicoverpa armigera) and yellow mite (Polyphagotarsonemus I at u ) were recorded at Before spray, 7 and 15 days after sprays by observing 10 random plants per plot and based on number of fruit damaged and reduction over control was calculated and yellow mite per cent control was calculated over control. Based on the per cent reduction in fruit damaged and yellow mite population the Expected control was calculated and compared with Observed control. The results of the trial have been presented here under in Table 1. Table 1: Synergistic effect of of the present invention (Compound of Formula I + Emamectin Benzoate + Compound of Formula II) against Fruit borer and yellow mite in Chilli crop

[0204] It is clearly evident from the data shown in above Table 1 for per cent reduction of fruit damaged and per cent control of yellow mite in Chilli crop that the ternary combination composition of the present invention comprising Compound of Formula I, Emamectin Benzoate and Compound of Formula II T1 to T4 are synergistic for both Insect-pest control with > 1 Colby’s Ratio. The binary combination of two insecticides (Emamectin Benzoate and Compound of Formula II) T13 to T16 is compatible but antagonistic effect for the control of yellow mite. The binary combination of one acaricide and one insecticide (Compound of Formula I and Emamectin Benzoate and Compound of Formula I and Compound of Formula II) T5 to T8 and T9 to T12 are more effective to control fruit borer and for yellow mite control as compared to binary combination of Emamectin Benzoate and Compound of Formula II T13 to T16. All binary combinations are shown additive effect for control of both insect-pest for control in compared to ternary combinations.
