Description

Analytical monitoring device

[0001] The present invention relates to an analyte monitoring device, and more particularly, to a device inserted into the body to monitor an analyte.

[0002] With the recent rise in processed foods, people are increasingly exposed to simple sugars. This environment has also led to a sharp rise in diabetes. Sudden drops or spikes in blood sugar levels can lead to shock in diabetic patients, and in rare cases, death. Therefore, diabetic patients need to continuously monitor their blood sugar levels.

[0003] In the case of conventional blood sugar measuring devices, a lancet is used to make an incision at the tip of the finger, and the blood of the diabetic patient that comes out through the incision is inserted into a blood sugar analysis device to calculate the blood sugar level.

[0004] This type of blood glucose measuring device causes pain and fear to the user. Furthermore, it is unrealistic to prick your finger every hour to draw blood.

[0005] To address these issues, continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) devices have been developed. By attaching a microscopic sensor and an electronic device for analyzing the analyte (hereafter, "blood sugar") measured by the sensor to the skin of a diabetic patient, blood sugar levels are continuously measured for a period of one to two weeks.

[0006] Continuous glucose monitoring devices are implanted into the skin and continuously measure blood sugar levels using sensors embedded within the device. Efforts are ongoing to miniaturize continuous glucose monitoring devices for implantation into the skin.

[0007] Conventional continuous glucose monitoring devices typically utilize semiconductor sensors or mechanical switches for battery power. However, using semiconductor sensors requires additional battery power. Furthermore, using mechanical switches instead of semiconductor sensors can lead to mechanical failure if the switch is stored in a pressed state for extended periods.

[0008] One embodiment of the present invention provides an analyte monitoring device that can automatically supply power from the time of use of the product and improve the durability of the device during storage and use by utilizing the contact and separation of a sensing part and a conductive part made of a conductive material without applying a semiconductor sensor or a mechanical switch in the power supply of the analyte monitoring device.

[0017] The above housing may have a cut-out portion formed in which a needle coupling portion to which the needle portion is coupled is placed.

[0018] The above needle joint may be provided with a holder for fixing the needle portion.

[0019] The housing includes a lower housing and an upper housing coupled to an upper portion of the lower housing, and the first terminal portion can be arranged across the upper surface, inner surface, and lower surface of the upper housing.

[0021] The above 1-3 terminals can be electrically connected to the above 2nd terminal portion.

[0022] The above first terminal portion can be pattern-processed using the LDS (Laser Direct Structuring) method.

[0023] According to another embodiment of the present invention, an analyte monitoring device may include a housing; a needle body movably installed inside the housing, and a needle part provided at a lower end of the needle body and including a needle inserted into a body to invasively touch a sensor; a first terminal part provided in the housing; a second terminal part provided on a lower surface of the needle part and electrically connected to the second terminal part; and a substrate installed inside the housing, electrically connected to the first terminal part, and transmitting a wake-up trigger for power supply when the first terminal part and the second terminal part are separated after the needle part is triggered.

[0051] FIG. 1 is a drawing illustrating an analyte monitoring device according to one embodiment of the present invention, FIG. 2 is a drawing illustrating a state of coupling between a needle portion and a transmitter of an analyte monitoring device according to one embodiment of the present invention, and FIG. 3 is a drawing illustrating a state of separation between a needle portion and a transmitter of an analyte monitoring device according to one embodiment of the present invention.

[0052] According to the drawings, the analyte monitoring device according to one embodiment of the present invention includes a housing (10, 12), a substrate (30) installed inside the housing (10, 12), a needle body (22) movably installed inside the housing (10, 12), a needle part (20) provided at the lower end of the needle body (22) and including a needle (24) inserted into the body, and a sensing part (40) disposed at least one of the inside and the outside of the housing (10, 12) and conducting while in contact with the needle part (20), and when the needle part (20) is triggered and then separated from the sensing part (40), a wake-up trigger for power supply can be transmitted to the substrate (30).

[0053] The housing (10, 12) may include a lower housing (10) and an upper housing (12) coupled to the upper portion of the lower housing (10), but is not limited thereto, and the housings (10, 12) may be formed integrally. An opening through which a needle (24) passes may be formed in the central portion of the lower housing (10). The lower housing (10) may be made of a material that conforms to the body as a surface that comes into contact with the body, and an adhesive surface with which an adhesive is applied may be formed on the outer surface of the lower housing (10) so that the analyte monitoring device may be attached to the body surface.

[0054] The upper housing (12) is coupled with the lower housing (10) to protect various components mounted on the lower housing (10). The upper housing (12) is pressurized by an applicator, i.e., a tool on which the analyte monitoring device is mounted so as to insert the sensor (42) of the analyte monitoring device into the user's body, and the analyte monitoring device can be attached to the body by the pressurization. The upper housing (12) may be made of a synthetic resin, for example, plastic, but is not limited thereto and may be made of various materials.

[0055] The needle part (20) includes a needle body (22) and a needle (24) provided at the tip of the needle body (22). The needle part (20) is moved linearly forward or backward by the applicator. When the needle part (20) is triggered, the needle (24) is inserted into the body and the sensor (42) arranged inside the needle (24) can be invasive. The needle (24) incises the skin so that at least a portion of the tip can be invasive into the body along the insertion direction and guides the sensor (42) into the body. The sensor (42) is inserted into the body and measures information on analytes inside the body. The sensor (42) can be inserted into the body and measure information on analytes in the body, such as glucose, and transmit the measured information to the substrate (30) through the needle body (22).

[0056] The substrate (30) is mounted on the inner surface of the lower housing (10) and performs an electrical connection between the components mounted on the substrate (30) and the sensor (42). The analyte information measured by the sensor (42) can be transmitted to the substrate (30), and the substrate (30) can process the transmitted electrical signal in a predetermined manner. The substrate (30) is illustrated as being mounted on the inner surface of the lower housing (10) in a circular shape, but is not limited thereto and may be formed in various shapes.

[0057] The holder (32) is coupled with the needle portion (20) to fix the needle portion (20) to the lower housing (10). The holder (32) aligns the needle portion (20) so that it is fixed to the lower housing (10) and the needle (24) can be inserted vertically downward. In one embodiment, the holder (32) is formed of a rubber packing to fix the needle portion (20). In one embodiment, the holder (32) can be formed so that the rubber packing wraps only around the edge portion.

[0058] The battery (34) is connected to the substrate (30) and can supply power to the analysis monitoring device. In this drawing, the battery (34) is illustrated as being formed in a circular shape, but is not limited thereto, and the battery (34) may have various shapes. In this embodiment, the battery (34) can supply power to the substrate (30) by a wake-up trigger operation of the substrate (30) when the needle portion (20) is separated from the substrate (30) by a trigger.

[0059] The sensing unit (40) can be mounted on the inner surface of the lower housing (10). The sensing unit (40) can be mounted on the inner surface of the lower housing (10) and positioned at a position corresponding to the position of the needle unit (20). That is, the sensing unit (40) is positioned directly below the needle unit (20), and when the needle unit (20) advances, it can be brought into contact and conducted as shown in FIG. 3. In the case of the analyte monitoring device, before use, the needle unit (20) or the transmitter holder (30) maintains contact with the sensing unit (40), and when used, it is triggered by the applicator and ultimately separated from the sensing unit (40).

[0060] In one embodiment, the sensing unit (40) may be manufactured using a Quantum Tunneling Composite (QTC). A quantum tunneling composite (QTC) is a flexible polymer exhibiting excellent electrical properties used as a pressure sensor and a switching system, and is a composite material of a metal and a non-conductive elastomer binder used as a pressure sensor. QTC basically utilizes the principle of quantum tunneling, which is widely used in applied physics, and a quantum tunneling composite sheet may be composed of three layers: a QTC layer, a conductive layer, and an insulator. When a force is applied to the plastic insulator surface of QTC, electrons can tunnel from the conductive layer to the QTC layer and conduct.

[0061] In this embodiment, a QTC material is presented as an example of the sensing unit (40), but it is not limited thereto, and any material can be applied to the sensing unit (40) as long as it is a touch sensor that can transmit a wake-up trigger signal by being conducted by contact with the needle unit (20). In addition, although the sensing unit (40) is illustrated as being mounted inside the lower housing (10) in this embodiment, it is not limited thereto, and it may be mounted on the outside of the housing (10), or may be mounted on the inside and outside of the housing (10).

[0062] In this way, when the sensing unit (40) comes into contact with the needle unit (20) due to the advancement of the needle unit (20), the sensing unit (40) is conducted, and at this time, the switch is turned off and the electrical connection with the substrate (30) is cut off. Thereafter, when the analyte monitoring device is used, the needle unit (20) is triggered using the applicator, and the needle (24) is inserted into the body to guide the invasion of the sensor (42). Then, the needle unit (20) is pulled out of the body and physically separated from the sensing unit (40). At this time, when the pressure transmission of the needle unit (20) to the sensing unit (40) is released, the switch is turned on and a wake-up trigger signal is transmitted to the substrate (30). Then, power is supplied from the battery (34) to the substrate (30). It is necessary to automatically supply power to the miniaturized analytical monitoring device, and since the battery (34) is operated through the triggering and separation operation of the needle part (20), automatic power supply to the substrate (30) is possible.

[0063] Meanwhile, the sensing unit (40) presented in this embodiment may be a circular shape with a predetermined volume as shown in the drawing, but is not limited thereto. That is, the sensing unit (40) may be applied to any shape as long as it can be contacted by the advancement of the needle unit (20). For example, the sensing unit (40) may have a cross-section such as a square or a triangle, or may be flat without a volume. In addition, a plurality of sensing units (40) may be arranged on the inner surface of the lower housing (10) and may be contacted by the needle unit (20). In addition, the sensing unit (40) may have a shape that surrounds the holder (32).

[0064] FIG. 4 is a drawing illustrating an analyte monitoring device according to another embodiment of the present invention, FIG. 5 is a drawing illustrating a state of coupling between a needle portion and a transmitter of an analyte monitoring device according to another embodiment of the present invention, and FIG. 6 is a drawing illustrating a state of separation between a needle portion and a transmitter of an analyte monitoring device according to another embodiment of the present invention.

[0065] Referring to this, an analyte monitoring device according to another embodiment of the present invention includes a housing (10, 12), a substrate (30) installed inside the housing (10, 12), a needle body (22) movably installed inside the housing (10, 12), a needle portion (20) including a needle (24) provided at the lower end of the needle body (22) and inserted into the body to intrude a sensor (42), a first conductive portion (26) disposed on the lower surface of the needle body (22), and a second conductive portion (44) disposed at least one of the inside and the outside of the housing (10, 12) and conducting when in contact with the needle portion (20), and when the needle portion (20) is triggered and then separated from the second conductive portion (44), a wake-up trigger for power supply can be transmitted to the substrate (30).

[0066] A first conductive portion (26) is provided on the lower surface of the needle body (22) of the needle portion (20). In addition, a second conductive portion (44) corresponding to the first conductive portion (26) is provided on the inner surface of the lower housing (10). The second conductive portion (44) may be arranged vertically downwards as the needle portion (20) advances. That is, the second conductive portion (44) may be arranged at a position where the sensing portion (40) is arranged in the above-described embodiment, and may have a shape that surrounds the holder (32).

[0067] The first conductive portion (26) arranged in this manner comes into contact with the second conductive portion (44) and conducts when the needle portion (20) advances. In the case of the analyte monitoring device, the first conductive portion (26) is in contact with the second conductive portion (44) before use, and when used, it is triggered by the applicator and ultimately separated from the second conductive portion (44).

[0068] Meanwhile, the first conductive portion (26) and the second conductive portion (44) may be made of a conductive material. In one embodiment, the first conductive portion (26) and the second conductive portion (44) may be made of conductive silicone rubber. In one embodiment, the first conductive portion (26) and the second conductive portion (44) may be made of a conductive polymer material, a conductive elastomer, a conductive tape, a conductive metal spring pin, a carbon nanotube, or a metal-polymer composite.

[0069] In this way, in this embodiment, by using the contact and separation of the sensing part (40) and the conductive part (26, 44) of the conductive material without applying a semiconductor sensor or a mechanical switch for power supply of the analyte monitoring device, power can be automatically supplied from the time of use of the product, and the durability of the device during storage and use can be improved.

[0072] In this embodiment, a cutout (114) is formed in the upper housing (112) where a needle coupling portion (116) is arranged. The cutout (114) is formed by cutting a portion of the upper housing (112) from the center toward the side, and may be cut to have a predetermined width, but is not limited thereto.

[0073] A needle coupling portion (116) to which a needle portion (120) is coupled is positioned on the cut portion (114). The needle coupling portion (116) is coupled to the lower housing (110) side, and is positioned on the cut portion (114) when the upper housing (112) is coupled to the lower housing (110).

[0074] The needle joint (116) is provided with a holder (132) for fixing the needle portion (120) when it is coupled. The holder (132) is provided with a rubber packing wrapped around it as described above, so that the needle portion (120) can be stably fixed.

[0075] Meanwhile, the first terminal portion (150) may be arranged across the upper surface, inner surface, and lower surface of the upper housing (112). More specifically, the first terminal portion (150) may include a 1-1 terminal (152) arranged on the upper surface of the upper housing (112), a 1-2 terminal (154) extending from the 1-1 terminal (152) and arranged on the side of the cut-out (114) or the inner surface of the upper housing (112), and a 1-3 terminal (156) extending from the 1-2 terminal (154) and arranged on the lower surface of the upper housing (112).

[0076] The first terminal portion (150) is configured as described above so that the first terminal portion (150) is exposed to the upper side of the upper housing (112) and makes contact with the second terminal portion (240, FIG. 14) of the transmitter holder (200, FIG. 14). As shown in the drawing, the first terminal portion (150) may extend in parallel in a pair, but is not limited thereto, and three or more may extend in parallel.

[0077] Here, the first terminal portion (150) can be pattern-processed using the LDS (Laser Direct Structuring) method. The LDS (Laser Direct Structuring) method is a method of securing electrical characteristic reliability by selectively processing a pattern using a laser on a thermoplastic resin and then performing a plating process. Meanwhile, the pattern of the first terminal portion (150) is illustrated as a pair arranged in parallel as described above, but is not limited thereto and may be formed so that a portion is bent depending on the position of the substrate (130).

[0078] FIG. 11 is a drawing illustrating an analyte monitoring device according to another embodiment of the present invention, and FIG. 12 is a drawing illustrating a lower surface of an upper housing of an analyte monitoring device according to another embodiment of the present invention.

[0079] Referring to this, in this embodiment, there are slight differences from the above-described embodiment in the shape of the incision portion (114) and the needle coupling portion (116). However, this difference in shape does not result in a technical difference. In this drawing, the needle coupling portion (116) may not be formed with a uniform width but may be formed in a fan shape, but is not limited thereto.

[0080] Additionally, in the present embodiment, the first-third terminal (156) constituting the first terminal portion (150) may be formed so that it does not extend in one direction from the lower surface of the upper housing (112) but is at least partially bent. Of course, this may vary depending on the position at which the first-third terminal (156) is connected to the substrate (130).

[0081] FIG. 13 is an exploded perspective view illustrating an analyte monitoring device according to another embodiment of the present invention, and FIG. 14 is a drawing illustrating a lower surface of a transmitter holder of an analyte monitoring device according to another embodiment of the present invention.

[0082] Referring to this, the transmitter holder (200) is configured to be coupled with the housing (110, 112) and to move the housing (110, 112) in a linear manner from distal to proximal. Meanwhile, the transmitter holder (200) moves only in the direction from distal to proximal. The transmitter holder (200) is provided with a holder penetration portion (210) through which the needle portion (120) passes.

[0083] In addition, the lower surface of the transmitter holder (200) may be provided with a second terminal portion (240) that comes into contact with the first terminal portion (150) when coupled to the upper portion of the housing (110, 112). The second terminal portion (240) may be positioned at a position corresponding to the position of the first terminal portion (150). In this way, when the transmitter holder (200) is coupled to the housing (110, 112), the first terminal portion (150) and the second terminal portion (240) may come into contact and be electrically connected.

[0084] In the case of the analyte monitoring device, before use, the transmitter holder (200) is coupled to the housing (110, 112), so that it remains in contact with the first terminal portion (150) and the second terminal portion (240), and when used, it is triggered by the applicator and ultimately separated from the first terminal portion (150). When separated from the first terminal portion (150), a wake-up trigger for power supply is transmitted to the substrate (130).

[0085] The cap (300) is configured to be mounted or removed from a handle (not shown) and can protect the interior of the applicator from external contaminants or impact. The cap (300) may be formed in a hollow cylindrical shape and is provided with a cap holder (310) on the inside. The cap holder (310) serves to align the coupled transmitter holder (200) so that it can be fixed in the correct position.

[0086] FIG. 15 is an exploded perspective view illustrating an analysis monitoring device according to another embodiment of the present invention.

[0087] Referring to this, in the present embodiment, a second terminal portion (126) that comes into contact with the first terminal portion (150) is provided on the needle portion (120). That is, the second terminal portion (126) may be provided on the lower surface of the needle body (122) constituting the needle portion (120).

[0088] When provided on the lower surface of the second terminal portion (126) in this way, the second terminal portion (126) comes into contact with the first terminal portion (150) during the process of joining the needle portion (120). That is, in this embodiment, unlike the embodiment described above, the terminal contact is not made on the transmitter holder (200) side, but is made directly on the needle portion (120) side.

[0089] For this purpose, the second terminal portion (126) may be provided in a circular shape on the lower surface of the needle body (122), but is not limited thereto. In addition, the second terminal portion (126) may have a diameter larger than the diameter of the lower surface of the needle body (122) for contact with the first terminal portion (150). That is, the second terminal portion (126) may protrude radially from the lower surface of the needle body (122) and smoothly contact the first terminal portion (150).

[0090] Although the present invention has been described above with reference to specific embodiments thereof, it will be understood by those skilled in the art that various modifications and changes may be made to the present invention without departing from the spirit and scope of the present invention as set forth in the claims below.
