[0001] Description

[0002] title

[0003] Heating module for

[0004] The invention relates to a heating module for a fluid conveying device. The invention also relates to a fluid conveying device with such a heating module and a method for producing a heating module according to the invention.

[0005] State of the art

[0006] To reduce the nitrogen oxides (NOx) contained in the exhaust gases of an internal combustion engine, particularly a diesel engine, a liquid reducing agent in the form of a urea-water solution (AdBlue®) is often injected into the exhaust system of the internal combustion engine. The reducing agent reacts with the nitrogen oxides contained in the exhaust gases in a catalyst located in the exhaust system of the internal combustion engine.

[0007] The liquid reducing agent is stored in a reservoir or tank and conveyed by a fluid conveying device containing a fluid pump to a metering module mounted on the exhaust system of the internal combustion engine, which module includes an injection device. The injection device injects the reducing agent into the exhaust system in a metered manner.

[0008] Urea water solution freezes at temperatures of approximately -10 °C. Therefore, it is necessary to heat the fluid conveying device to thaw frozen reducing agent and / or to prevent the reducing agent from freezing. The fluid conveying device is therefore often equipped with heating modules.

[0009] It is an object of the invention to provide a simple and cost-effective heating device for a fluid conveying device and a method for producing such a heating device, which make it possible to reduce the risk of damage to heating modules present in the heating device.

[0010] A heating device according to the invention for a fluid conveying device, in particular for a fluid conveying device provided for conveying a fluid reducing agent in a system for the aftertreatment of exhaust gases of an internal combustion engine, comprises a support element with two receiving regions and a bridge region extending between the two receiving regions; and a first electrical conductor layer. The first electrical conductor layer is arranged on the support element and comprises two electrical contact regions and a bridge element. One of the two electrical contact regions of the first electrical conductor layer is arranged in one of the two receiving regions of the support element, and the bridge element of the first electrical conductor layer is arranged in the bridge region of the support element. The heating device also comprises two electrical heating elements, in particular two PTC heating elements, one of which is arranged on each of the two electrical contact areas; and a second electrical conductor layer comprising two electrical contact areas and a bridge element. One of the two electrical contact areas of the second electrical conductor layer is arranged on one of the two electrical heating elements, and the bridge element of the second electrical conductor layer is arranged in the bridge area of the support element. The support element, the first electrical conductor layer, the electrical heating elements, and the second electrical conductor layer are mechanically connected to one another by hot caulking.

[0011] A method according to the invention for producing a heating device for a fluid conveying device, in particular for a fluid conveying device which is provided for conveying a fluid reducing agent in a system for the aftertreatment of exhaust gases of an internal combustion engine, comprises: providing a support element, wherein the support element comprises two receiving regions, each for receiving an electrical heating element, and a bridge region which extends between the two receiving regions; arranging a first electrical conductor layer, which comprises two electrical contact regions and a bridge element, on the support element, wherein one of the two electrical contact regions of the first electrical conductor layer is arranged in one of the two receiving regions, and wherein the bridge element of the first electrical conductor layer is arranged in the bridge region of the support element;Arranging an electrical heating element, in particular a PTC heating element, on each of the two electrical contact regions; Arranging a second electrical conductor layer, which comprises two electrical contact regions and a bridge element, on the support element, wherein one of the two electrical contact regions of the second electrical conductor layer is arranged on one of the two electrical heating elements, and wherein the bridge element of the second electrical conductor layer is arranged in the bridge region of the support element. The method also comprises mechanically connecting the support element, the first electrical conductor layer, the electrical heating elements, and the second electrical conductor layer to one another by hot caulking.

[0012] A method according to the invention makes it possible to manufacture a heating device for a fluid conveying device simply and cost-effectively. The risk of damaging the heating elements can be significantly reduced compared to previously known methods, particularly compared to methods in which the elements of the heating device are overmolded.

[0013] Accordingly, a heating device according to the invention can be manufactured easily and inexpensively, and the risk of damaging the heating elements during manufacture of the heating device is low.

[0014] In one embodiment, the bridge element of the first electrical conductor layer and the bridge element of the second electrical conductor layer are also mechanically connected to the bridge region of the support element by hot-staking. This can further increase the mechanical stability of the heating device.

[0015] In one embodiment, the first electrical conductor layer and the second electrical conductor layer are connected to the bridge region of the support element with at least one common hot-staking element. This makes it possible to reduce the number of hot-staking elements required and the effort associated with hot-staking. As a result, the manufacturing costs of a heating device according to the invention can be reduced even further. In one embodiment, the first electrical conductor layer, the second electrical conductor layer, and the bridge region of the support element are connected to one another with a total of four hot-staking elements. The inventors have found that four hot-staking elements are sufficient to securely and reliably connect the first electrical conductor layer, the second electrical conductor layer, and the bridge region of the support element.

[0016] In one embodiment, one of the two receiving regions of the support element, one of the electrical contact regions of the first electrical conductor layer, one of the two electrical heating elements, and one of the electrical contact regions of the second electrical conductor layer are connected to one another using four hot-stamping elements. The inventors have determined that four hot-stamping elements are sufficient to securely and reliably connect one of the electrical contact regions of the first electrical conductor layer, one of the two electrical heating elements, and one of the electrical contact regions of the second electrical conductor layer.

[0017] In one embodiment, the two receiving areas are each rectangular and the hot-casting elements are arranged at the four corners of the receiving areas.

[0018] In one embodiment, additional electrical insulation elements are provided to electrically insulate the electrical conductor layers. The electrical insulation elements can be arranged on a side of the electrical contact regions of one of the two electrical conductor layers facing away from the electrical heating elements. The electrical insulation elements can be arranged, in particular, between the first electrical conductor layer and the support element. The electrical insulation elements can be fixed by hot caulking.

[0031] An embodiment of the invention is described below with reference to the accompanying figures.

[0032] Figure 1 shows a schematic view of a motor vehicle 60 with an internal combustion engine 38, in particular with a diesel engine, and with an exhaust gas aftertreatment system 30 which is designed for aftertreating the exhaust gases 47 of the internal combustion engine 38.

[0033] The exhaust aftertreatment system 30 comprises a catalyst 50 arranged in an exhaust system 36 of the internal combustion engine 38, and a system 31 for introducing a fluid reducing agent ("fluid") 34, in particular an aqueous urea solution C, AdBlue®), stored in a reservoir 32, into the exhaust system 36 of the internal combustion engine 38.

[0034] During operation of the exhaust gas aftertreatment system 30, reducing agent 34 is withdrawn from the reservoir 32 via a fluid line 33 and is supplied by a fluid conveying device 40, which has a fluid pump 45, under increased pressure via a suitable fluid line ("pressure line") 21 to a dosing module 44, which is arranged on the exhaust line 36 of the internal combustion engine 38.

[0035] The dosing module 44 comprises an injection device designed and configured to inject the reducing agent 34 into the exhaust system 36 in a metered manner as a spray 49. In the exhaust system 36, the injected reducing agent 34 mixes with the exhaust gases 47 of the internal combustion engine 38 flowing through the exhaust system 36 and reacts with the nitrogen oxides contained in the exhaust gases 47 to form water and nitrogen in the catalyst 50 provided downstream of the dosing module 44 in the exhaust system 36.

[0036] The exhaust gas aftertreatment system 30 comprises a plurality of sensors 52, 54, 56, for example temperature sensors 52, 54, which are arranged upstream and downstream of the catalyst 50 on or in the exhaust line 36, and a nitrogen oxide sensor (“NO x -Sensor”) 56, which is arranged downstream of the catalyst 50 in the exhaust system 36.

[0037] The sensors 52, 54, 56 deliver their measurement results to a control unit 58, which is designed to control the components of the exhaust gas aftertreatment system 30, in particular the fluid conveying device 40 and the dosing module 44, in such a way that the nitrogen oxides contained in the exhaust gases 47 of the internal combustion engine 38 are reduced to nitrogen and water as best as possible.

[0038] Figure 2 shows a perspective exploded view of a fluid conveying device 40 constructed according to an embodiment of the invention.

[0039] The fluid conveying device 40 has a housing 42 in which a fluid conveying pump and a heating device 2 according to the invention are located.

[0040] The heating device 2 is arranged between two heat conducting plates 44a, 44b, which are fastened to the heating device 2 with spring clips 46 and screws 48.

[0041] Figure 3 shows an enlarged exploded view of a heating device 2 according to the invention. Figure 4 shows the heating device 2 in an assembled state. The representation of the heating device 2 shown in Figure 4 is rotated by 180° compared to the exploded view shown in Figure 3.

[0042] The heating device 2 comprises a central support element 4 with two receiving areas 8a, 8b and a bridge area 6 which extends between the two receiving areas 8a, 8b.

[0043] The support element 4 can be manufactured using a casting process, in particular an injection molding process. The support element 4 can be made of a plastic material, for example polyamide, in particular a glass fiber-reinforced plastic material / polyamide.

[0044] The heating device also includes a first electrical conductor layer 10 arranged on the support element 4. The first electrical conductor layer 10 includes two electrical contact areas 12a, 12b and a bridge element 14 extending between the two electrical contact areas 12a, 12b and electrically connecting the two electrical contact areas 12a, 12b.

[0045] Each of the two electrical contact regions 12a, 12b is arranged in one of the two receiving regions 8a, 8b of the support element 4. The bridge element 14 of the first electrical conductor layer 10 is arranged in the bridge region 6 of the support element 4.

[0046] An electrical heating element 16a, 16b, in particular a PTC heating element, is arranged on each of the two electrical contact areas 12a, 12b.

[0047] A second electrical conductor layer 20 is arranged on the two electrical heating elements 16a, 16b, which also comprises two electrical contact areas 22a, 22b and a bridge element 24. The bridge element extends between the two electrical contact areas 22a, 22b and electrically connects the two electrical contact areas 22a, 22b to one another.

[0048] Each of the two electrical contact regions 22a, 22b of the second electrical conductor layer 20 is arranged on one of the two electrical heating elements 16a, 16b. As a result, each of the two electrical heating elements 16a, 16b is arranged between an electrical contact region 12a, 12b of the first electrical conductor layer 10 and an electrical contact region 22a, 22b of the second electrical conductor layer 20 and is in electrical contact with these electrical contact regions 12a, 12b, 22a, 22b.

[0049] The bridge element 24 of the second electrical conductor layer 20 is arranged next to the bridge element 14 of the first electrical conductor layer 10 in the bridge region 6 of the support element 4.

[0050] The first electrical conductor layer 10 and the second electrical conductor layer 20 each have a solder lug 15, 25 which is intended to be connected to an electrical energy source, e.g. by soldering or welding, for example by spot resistance welding ("micro-resistance welding"), in order to supply the electrical heating elements 16a, 16b with electrical energy via the first electrical conductor layer 10 and the second electrical conductor layer 20.

[0051] The solder lugs 15, 25 can be arranged such that they are protected by the support element 4 against mechanical damage, such as bending or breaking.

[0052] An insulating element 26a, 26b can be arranged on each of the two electrical contact regions 22a, 22b of the second electrical conductor layer 20 to electrically insulate the two electrical contact regions 22a, 22b. The insulating elements 26a, 26b can, in particular, be ceramic insulating elements 26a, 26b.

[0053] In the embodiment shown in the figures, the two receiving areas 8a, 8b as well as the electrical contact areas 12a, 12b, 22a, 22b, electrical heating elements 16a, 16b and insulation elements 26a, 26b arranged therein are each rectangular.

[0054] However, the receiving areas 8a, 8b, the electrical contact areas 12a, 12b, 22a, 22b, the electrical heating elements 16a, 16b and the insulating elements 26a, 26b may also have other, non-rectangular, shapes depending on the geometry of the housing 42 of the fluid conveying device 40 and the installation situation of the heating device 2 in the housing 42.

[0055] The support element 4, the first electrical conductor layer 10, the electrical heating elements 16a, 16b and the second electrical conductor layer 20 are mechanically connected to one another by hot caulking.

[0056] The insulation elements 26a, 26b are generally not fixed to the support element 4 by hot-staking. This prevents the insulation elements 26a, 26b, especially pressure-sensitive ceramic insulation elements 26a, 26b, from being damaged by hot-staking. In this case, the insulation elements 26a, 26b are fixed by the housing 42 during the installation of the heating device 2 into the housing 42 of the conveyor device 40. Figures 5A and 5B show enlarged perspective views of a receiving area 8a of a heating device 2 according to the invention.

[0057] Figures 5A and 5B illustrate in particular how the electrical contact region 12a of the first electrical conductor layer 10 is fixed in the receiving region 8a by an end region 7 of the bridge region 6 of the support element 4 overlapping the electrical contact region 12a.

[0058] The overlapping end region 7 can also be larger than shown in Figures 5A and 5B in order to further overlap the electrical contact region 12a and thereby fix it even more firmly in the receiving region 8a. An example of such a further overlapping end region is shown in Figure 6A.

[0059] Alternatively or additionally, the corners of the receiving region 8a may be formed such that they overlap the corners of the electrical contact region 12a of the first electrical conductor layer 10 in order to fix the electrical contact region 12a in the receiving region 8a, as shown in Figure 6B.

[0060] Figure 7 shows an enlarged perspective view of one of the two receiving areas 8a, 8b of the support element 4 with an adjoining section of the bridge area 6.

[0061] At each of the four corners of the rectangular receiving area 8a, a hot-stamping element 28 is provided, which makes it possible to mechanically connect and fix the support element 4, the electrical contact areas 12a, 12b of the first electrical conductor layer 10, the electrical heating elements 16a, 16b and the electrical contact areas 22a, 22b of the second electrical conductor layer 20.

[0062] In other exemplary embodiments not explicitly shown in the figures, more or fewer than four hot-casting elements 28 can also be provided. Hot-casting elements 28 can in particular also be provided in the regions of the receiving regions 8a, 8b which connect the corners to one another. The bridge region 6 is stepped in this region and comprises an upper region 6a in the illustration in Figure 6, which directly adjoins the receiving region 8a of the support element 4, a stepped region 6b which extends at a right angle to the upper region 6a, and a lower region 6c which adjoins the end of the stepped region 6b facing away from the upper region 6a.

[0063] The height h of the step, ie the vertical distance between the upper region 6a and the lower region 6b (see Figure 8) can be, for example, 4 mm to 8 mm, in particular 6 mm.

[0064] The bridge element 14 of the first electrical conductor layer 10 and the bridge element 24 of the second electrical conductor layer 20 are arranged next to one another in the bridge region 6 of the support element 4 such that they extend parallel to one another.

[0065] Between the bridge element 14 of the first electrical conductor layer 10 and the bridge element 24 of the second electrical conductor layer 20, a plurality of hot-stamping elements 28 are provided in order to connect the bridge element 14 of the first electrical conductor layer 10 and the bridge element 24 of the second electrical conductor layer 20 to the bridge region 6 of the support element 4.

[0066] Each of the hot-stamping elements 28 connects both the bridge element 14 of the first electrical conductor layer 10 and the bridge element 24 of the second electrical conductor layer 20 to the bridge region 6 of the support element 4.

[0067] In the embodiment shown in Figures 3 to 8, the first electrical conductor layer 10 is arranged as the first layer directly on the support element 4, and the insulation elements 26a, 26b are arranged as the last or outermost layer on the second electrical conductor layer 20.

[0068] In further embodiments not explicitly shown in the figures, the first electrical conductor layer 10, the electrical heating elements 16a, 16b, the second electrical conductor layer 20, and the insulating elements 26a, 26b can also be arranged in a reverse order. In such an embodiment, the insulating elements 26a, 26b are arranged as the first layer in the receiving regions 8a, 8b of the support element 4, the second electrical conductor layer 20 is arranged on the insulating elements 26a, 26b, the electrical heating elements 16a, 16b are arranged on the second electrical conductor layer 20, and the first electrical conductor layer 10 is arranged as the last or outermost layer on the electrical heating elements 16a, 16b.

[0069] In this case, the hot staking takes place against the first electrical conductor layer 10. This can be advantageous because the first electrical conductor layer 10 is made of metal and therefore has good thermal conductivity.

[0070] In this case, the polarity of the electrical voltage applied to the electrical heating elements 16a, 16b via the first electrical conductor layer 10 and the second electrical conductor layer 20 may also have to be reversed in order to operate the electrical heating elements 16a, 16b properly.

[0071] Alternatively, the heating device 2 can also be designed without the insulating elements 26a, 26b. In this case, sufficient electrical insulation of the electrical conductor layers 10, 20 must be ensured when installing the heating device 2 in the housing 42.

[0072] Figures 8 and 9 show a side view and a top view of a heating device 2 according to the invention.

[0073] The heating device 2 can have a length L in the range of 100 mm to 150 mm, in particular a length in the range of 110 mm to 130 mm, e.g. a length of 118 mm or 120 mm.

[0074] The heating device 2 can have a width B in the range from 50 mm to 80 mm, in particular a width in the range from 60 mm to 70 mm, e.g., a length of 64 mm or 64 mm. The heating device 2 can have a height H in the range from 10 mm to 30 mm, in particular a height in the range from 15 mm to 25 mm, e.g., a length of 19 mm or 20 mm. The dimensions of the heating device 2 can, in particular, be adapted to the geometry of the housing 42 of the fluid delivery device 40 and the installation situation of the heating device 2 in the housing 42, so that the heating device 2 can be operated with efficient heat transfer to the fluid reducing agent ("fluid") 34 in the fluid delivery device 40.
