Abstract
Description
Eye drop monitoring system
[0001] The present invention relates to an eye drop monitoring system, and more particularly, to an eye drop monitoring system used for eye drop management in treating eye diseases such as glaucoma with eye drops.
[0002] Glaucoma is a disease that causes visual field loss due to damage to the optic nerve, which transmits light received by the eye to the brain. Damage to the optic nerve can lead to visual field loss, and if left untreated, it can lead to blindness. One of the many causes of glaucoma is a significant increase in intraocular pressure, and eye drops that lower intraocular pressure are used to treat this condition.
[0003] Glaucoma patients self-administer eye drops according to doctor's prescription to lower intraocular pressure. However, there are problems with poor treatment effectiveness due to poor eye drop management, such as not applying eye drops as prescribed by the doctor, forgetting the time of application, not applying eye drops arbitrarily due to pain, or not being able to apply eye drops due to lack of eye drops.
[0004] In this regard, there is a technology disclosed in Utility Model Registration No. 20-0494886 (published on August 3, 2021).
[0005] The object of the present invention is to provide an eye drop monitoring system that can enhance the therapeutic effect through eye drop management by monitoring whether eye drops are actually applied at the appropriate time.
[0006] In order to achieve the above object, the present invention provides an eye drop monitoring system comprising a main body, a release mechanism, a pressing mechanism, a sensor unit, and a control unit. The main body includes a bottom support unit for supporting the bottom of an eye drop bottle by fixing it thereon, and a side support unit extending upward from one edge of the bottom support unit to support a portion of the side of the eye drop bottle. The release mechanism is installed on the side support unit to fix or release the eye drop bottle supported on the main body. The pressing mechanism is installed on the side support unit to dispense one drop of eye drop from the eye drop bottle and instill it when the eye drop bottle fixed to the main body by the release mechanism is pressed by a user. The sensor unit is installed on the main body to monitor eye drop information provided by the user. The control unit is installed on the main body to manage eye drop information by linking with a user terminal via a communication module based on eye drop information provided from the sensor unit while receiving power from a battery in response to an ON operation of a power button.
[0007] Here, the sensor unit may include a pressure detection sensor installed in the main body to detect whether the eye drop bottle is pressed by a pressing mechanism, an eye drop bottle detection sensor installed in the main body to detect whether the eye drop bottle is replaced with respect to the main body, and a gyro sensor installed in the main body to measure a change in direction of the eye drop bottle fixed to the main body.
[0008] The pressing mechanism may include an operating lever that performs a pressing or releasing operation on the outside of the side support, a pressing portion that penetrates the side support and is connected to the lower end of the operating lever to press the eye drop bottle in response to the pressing operation of the operating lever to dispense one drop of eye drop, and an elastic connecting portion that elastically connects the upper end of the operating lever to the upper end of the side support to apply an elastic force to the operating lever in the direction of the releasing operation. Here, a pressing detection sensor may be installed on the side support so as to be pressed in response to the pressing operation of the operating lever and output an electric signal to the control portion.
[0009] The side support may have rings on each of the left and right edges. In addition, the release mechanism may include a strip having both ends fitted into each of the rings of the side support while wrapping the eye dropper, a male and female button attached to one end of the strip and coupled to each other so that one end of the strip is fixed while being fitted into one ring of the side support, and a male and female Velcro attached to the other end of the strip and coupled to each other so that the other end of the strip is fixed while being fitted into the other ring of the side support. Here, the strip may include an anti-slip pad attached to a surface facing the eye dropper. The side support may include a fixing protrusion protruding from the upper inner surface toward the eye dropper to prevent the eye dropper from being detached by pressing the eye dropper.
[0010] At least one of the main body and the user terminal may include a notification unit that outputs a notification for eye drop management. Here, the user terminal may control the notification unit according to the eye drop time setting and the notification type setting.
[0011] According to the eye drop monitoring system of the present invention, it is possible to monitor whether eye drops have actually been applied at the right time, thereby enabling the user to manage the application of eye drops at the right time, thereby improving the treatment effect of eye diseases such as glaucoma.
[0012] In addition, the eye drop monitoring system of the present invention enables the eye drop information to be recorded and transmitted to a doctor, thereby allowing the doctor to determine the patient's compliance, confirm the treatment effect by eye drop, determine the appropriateness of the treatment and the suitability of the drug, and provide a basis for maintaining or changing the eye drop prescription, thereby improving the treatment effect.

[0014] Fig. 2 is a perspective view showing a part of the eye monitoring system illustrated in Fig. 1 in an exploded view.
[0015] Figures 3 to 5 are drawings for explaining an example of the operation of the eye drop monitoring system.
[0016] Figure 6 is a drawing showing an example in which a pressing mechanism has a pressing depth adjustment unit.
[0017] Fig. 7 is a drawing for explaining the operation of the pressing depth control unit illustrated in Fig. 6.
[0018] The present invention will be described in detail with reference to the attached drawings. Here, the same reference numerals are used for the same components, and repetitive descriptions and detailed descriptions of well-known functions and components that may unnecessarily obscure the gist of the present invention are omitted.
[0019] Embodiments of the present invention are provided to more fully explain the present invention to those of ordinary skill in the art. Accordingly, the shapes and sizes of elements in the drawings may be exaggerated for clarity.
[0020] FIG. 1 is a schematic diagram of an eye drop monitoring system according to one embodiment of the present invention. FIG. 2 is a partially exploded perspective view of the eye drop monitoring system illustrated in FIG. 1. FIGS. 3 to 5 are diagrams illustrating examples of the operation of the eye drop monitoring system.
[0021] Referring to FIGS. 1 to 5, an eye drop monitoring system (100) according to one embodiment of the present invention includes a main body (110), a release mechanism (120), a pressing mechanism (130), a sensor unit (140), and a control unit (150).
[0022] The main body (110) has a bottom support (111) that supports the bottom of the eye drop bottle (10) by settling it, and a side support (112) that extends upward from one edge of the bottom support (111) and supports a portion of the side of the eye drop bottle (10).
[0023] Here, the eye drop bottle (10) is configured to dispense eye drops through an outlet when pressed by an external force while storing eye drops. The eye drops may be eye drops with an intraocular pressure-lowering effect for the treatment of glaucoma, but may also be various eye drops for the treatment of various eye diseases.
[0024] The main body (110) can be configured to house a sensor unit (140) and a control unit (150) in a casing made of a plastic material, etc. The bottom support unit (111) has a flat upper surface, so that it can stably support the bottom of an eye dropper bottle (10) placed on the upper surface.
[0025] The side support (112) supports one side of the eye drop bottle (10) placed on the upper surface of the bottom support (111) by making contact with it. The side support (112) enables the eye drop bottle (10) to be fixed in a state in which the entire circumference thereof is supported, together with the release mechanism (120) that supports the other side of the eye drop bottle (10). The side support (112) is not limited to the examples, and may be formed in various forms within a range capable of performing the aforementioned functions.
[0026] A release mechanism (120) is installed on the side support (112) to release or release the eye drop bottle (10) supported on the main body (110). The release mechanism (120) enables the eye drop bottle (10) to be replaced with a new eye drop bottle after it has been used.
[0027] For example, as illustrated in FIG. 2, the release mechanism (120) may include a strip (121), male and female buttons (122a, 122b), and male and female Velcro (123a, 123b). In this case, the side support member (112) may have rings (113) on the left and right edges, respectively.
[0028] The strip (121) wraps around the eye dropper bottle (10) and both ends are inserted into the rings (113) of the side supports (112). The strip (121) may have a square shape with a constant thickness. The strip (121) may be made of a material that can tightly fix the eye dropper bottle (10). For example, the strip (121) may be made of an elastic material such as rubber, urethane, etc. Of course, the strip (121) may also be made of various materials such as leather, fabric, etc.
[0029] The strip (121) may include a non-slip pad (121a) attached to the surface facing the eye dropper (10). The non-slip pad (121a) prevents the eye dropper (10) from slipping by wrapping the strip (121) around and fixing the eye dropper (10), thereby preventing the eye dropper (10) from easily falling off the strip (121). The non-slip pad (121a) may be made of a material such as rubber or urethane. When the strip (121) is made of a material such as rubber or urethane, the non-slip pad (121a) may be omitted.
[0030] The male and female buttons (122a, 122b) are attached to one end of the strip (121) and are joined to each other so that one end of the strip (121) is fixed in a state of being fitted into one ring (113) of the side support (112). The male and female buttons (122a, 122b) are arranged adjacent to one side of the strip (121).
[0031] The male and female buttons (122a, 122b) are formed as snap buttons and can be connected or separated from each other, thereby allowing one end of the strip (121) to be attached or removed from the side support (112). Of course, the male and female buttons (122a, 122b) may be omitted, and one end of the strip (121) may be fixed without being separated by being inserted into one ring (113) of the side support (112).
[0032] The male and female Velcro (123a, 123b) are attached to the other end of the strip (121) and are joined to each other so that the other end of the strip (121) is fixed in a state of being inserted into the other ring (113) of the side support (112). The male and female Velcro (123a, 123b) are arranged adjacent to one side of the strip (121). The male and female Velcro (123a, 123b) are joined or separated from each other so that the other end of the strip (121) can be attached to or detached from the side support (112).
[0033] Since the positions where the male and female Velcros (123a, 123b) are connected to each other can be freely changed, the length of the strip (121) can be adjusted to fit the circumference of the eye dropper (10) to tightly fix the eye dropper (10). In this way, since the fixation release mechanism (120) can tightly fix the eye dropper (10) regardless of the circumference, the eye drop monitoring system (100) can be used for various types of eye dropper bottles (10).
[0034] This release mechanism (120) can function as follows. One end of the strip (121) is fitted into one ring (113) of the side support (112) and fixed by the connection between the male and female buttons (122a, 122b), and the central part of the strip (121) wraps around the eye dropper (10), while the other end of the strip (121) is fitted into the other ring (113) of the side support (112) and the eye dropper (10) can be tightly fixed by the connection between the male and female Velcro (123a, 123b).
[0035] In this state, after the male and female Velcros (123a, 123b) are separated, when the other end of the strip (121) is separated from the other ring (113) of the side support (112), the eye dropper (10) can be released from the fixed state. Accordingly, the eye dropper (10) can be easily replaced. Meanwhile, the fixation release mechanism (120) is not limited to the example and can be configured in various ways within the scope of performing the above-described function.
[0036] In an additional aspect, the side support (112) may include a fixing projection (114) protruding from the upper inner surface of the eye dropper bottle (10) to prevent the eye dropper bottle (10) from falling off by pressing the eye dropper bottle (10). The fixing projection (114) can prevent the eye dropper bottle (10) tilted upside down for instillation from falling off downward by pressing the side of the eye dropper bottle (10) while the eye dropper bottle (10) is fixed by the fixing release mechanism (120). One or more fixing projections (114) may protrude to press the eye dropper bottle (10).
[0037] The pressing mechanism (130) is installed on the side support member (112) so that when the eye drop bottle (10) fixed to the main body (110) by the release mechanism (120) is pressed by the user's operation, one drop of eye drop is discharged from the eye drop bottle (10) and applied to the eye. For example, the pressing mechanism (130) may include an operating lever (131), a pressing portion (132), and an elastic connecting portion (133).
[0038] The operating lever (131) performs a pressing or releasing operation on the outside of the side support (112). The pressurizing portion (132) penetrates the side support (112) and is connected to the lower end of the operating lever (131). In response to the pressing operation of the operating lever (131), the eye dropper (10) is pressed to dispense one drop of eye drop.
[0039] The pressurizing portion (132) may include a pressurizing rod (132a) and a pressurizing head (132b). The pressurizing rod (132a) penetrates the side support (112) so as to be able to move forward and backward while its rear end is connected to the lower end of the operating lever (131). The rear end of the pressurizing rod (132a) may be rotatably hinge-connected to the lower end of the operating lever (131). Therefore, the pressurizing rod (132a) can move forward and backward according to the rotation of the operating lever (131).
[0040] The pressure head (132b) is positioned on the inside of the side support (112) and connected to the tip of the pressure rod (132a). The pressure head (132b) is in contact with the side of the eye dropper (10) supported on the inside of the side support (112), and as the pressure rod (132a) advances by the pressing action of the operating lever (131), the side of the eye dropper (10) is pressed. The side support (112) may have a receiving groove (115) that completely receives the pressure head (132b) when the eye dropper (10) is supported by contacting the inside.
[0041] The elastic connecting portion (133) elastically connects the upper end of the operating lever (131) to the upper end of the side support (112) to apply elastic force to the operating lever (131) in the direction of the release motion. The elastic connecting portion (133) may be curved upwards to connect the upper end of the operating lever (131) to the upper end of the side support (112). The elastic connecting portion (133) may be made of a material such as plastic that is capable of elastic deformation and restoration. The elastic connecting portion (133) may be integrally manufactured from the same material as the operating lever (131), or may be manufactured separately and then coupled to the operating lever (131).
[0042] The elastic connecting member (133) elastically deforms to generate a restoring force when the operating lever (131) receives an external force from the neutral position and approaches or moves away from the side support member (112), thereby allowing the operating lever (131) from which the external force has been removed to return to the neutral position.
[0043] The operation of this pressing mechanism (130) will be described with reference to FIGS. 3 to 5 as follows. As shown in FIG. 3, in a state where the eye dropper (10) is not in the main body (110), the operating lever (131) is in a neutral position and stands by from the outer surface of the side support (112), and the pressing head (132b) is in a state of standing by protruding from the receiving groove (115) of the side support (112).
[0044] In this state, as illustrated in FIG. 4, when the eye drop bottle (10) is placed on the main body (110), the pressure head (132b) is pushed by the eye drop bottle (10) and is received into the receiving groove (115) of the side support (112), thereby moving the pressure rod (132a) backward. Then, the operating lever (131) is pushed by the backward movement of the pressure rod (132a) and moves away from the outer surface of the side support (112). At this time, the elastic connecting portion (133) is elastically deformed.
[0045] In this state, as shown in Fig. 5, when the user presses the operating lever (131), the pressure head (132b) pushes and presses the eye drop bottle (10) in accordance with the advancement of the pressure rod (132a), and accordingly, one drop of eye drop is discharged from the eye drop bottle (10). At this time, the elastic connecting part (133) is elastically deformed.
[0046] Thereafter, when the force applied to the operating lever (131) is removed, the operating lever (131) returns to the release position by being separated from the outer surface of the side support (112) by the elastic restoring force of the elastic connecting portion (133), as illustrated in FIG. 4. In this state, when the eye dropper (10) is removed from the main body (110), the operating lever (131) waits in the neutral position by being brought close to the outer surface of the side support (112) by the elastic restoring force of the elastic connecting portion (133), as illustrated in FIG. 3.
[0047] As another example, although not shown, the pressing mechanism (130) may be configured such that the operating lever (131) is hinged to the side support (112) to pivot, and a spring elastically supports the operating lever (131) against the side support (112).
[0048] The sensor unit (140) is installed in the main body (110) to monitor eye drop information by the user. The sensor unit (140) may include a pressure detection sensor (141), an eye drop bottle detection sensor (142), and a gyro sensor (143).
[0049] A pressure detection sensor (141) is installed in the main body (110) to detect whether the eye dropper (10) is pressed by the pressing mechanism (130). The pressure detection sensor (141) detects whether eye dropper is dispensed from the eye dropper (10) and provides the detection to the control unit (150).
[0050] As illustrated in FIG. 5, the pressure detection sensor (141) may be installed on the side support (112) to be pressed in accordance with the pressing motion of the operating lever (131) and output an electric signal to the control unit (150). The pressure detection sensor (141) may be maintained in an off state when the operating lever (131) is positioned as illustrated in FIGS. 3 and 4. The pressure detection sensor (141) may be formed of various known sensors such as a push button switch, a pressure-sensitive touch sensor, etc. The pressure detection sensor (141) is electrically connected to the control unit (150).
[0051] An eye drop bottle detection sensor (142) is installed in the main body (110) to detect whether the eye drop bottle (10) is replaced with respect to the main body (110). The eye drop bottle detection sensor (142) may be installed in the floor support (111). The eye drop bottle detection sensor (142) detects whether the eye drop bottle (10) is seated with respect to the floor support (111) and provides the information to the control unit (150), thereby allowing the control unit (150) to recognize whether the eye drop bottle (10) is replaced. The control unit (150) may store information on replacement of the eye drop bottle (10) and transmit the information to the user terminal (160).
[0052] Of course, the eye drop detection sensor (142) may be installed on the side support (112) to detect whether there is contact with the side of the eye drop bottle (10). The eye drop detection sensor (142) is electrically connected to the control unit (150). The eye drop detection sensor (142) may be composed of various known sensors such as an optical position sensor, a pressure sensor, etc., and may be installed on the upper surface of the bottom support (111).
[0053] A gyro sensor (143) is installed in the main body (110) to measure the change in orientation of the eye dropper (10) fixed to the main body (110). The gyro sensor (143) measures the tilted position of the eye dropper (10) when the user instills the eye dropper (10) while tilting it upside down, and provides the measured tilted position to the control unit (150). The gyro sensor (143) may be installed in the bottom support (111) or the side support (112). The gyro sensor (143) is electrically connected to the control unit (150). The gyro sensor (143) may be formed of various known gyro sensors.
[0054] This sensor unit (140) can monitor comprehensive eye drop information and provide it to the control unit (150) by detecting whether the user has placed the eye drop bottle (10) on the main body (110) by the eye drop bottle detection sensor (142), measuring whether the user has taken the eye drop bottle (10) in an eye drop position by the gyro sensor (143), and detecting whether the user has dispensed eye drops from the eye drop bottle (10) by the pressure detection sensor (141). Accordingly, the control unit (150) can determine whether eye drop has actually been performed based on the eye drop information provided through the sensor unit (140).
[0055] The control unit (150) is installed in the main body (110) to manage eye drops in conjunction with the user terminal (160) by means of a communication module (153) based on eye drop information provided from the sensor unit (140) while receiving power from the battery (152) in response to the ON operation of the power button (151). The control unit (150) may be configured with a microprocessor and memory mounted on a circuit board.
[0056] The power button (151) is installed so as to be exposed on the side support (112) or the bottom support (111) and is electrically connected to the control unit (150). The power button (151) may be formed of various known buttons. The battery (152) may be replaceably installed on the main body (110), for example, the bottom support (111). The battery (152) may be formed of a coin-type battery, etc.
[0057] As another example, the battery (152) may be a rechargeable battery. In this case, the main body (110) may be equipped with a charging terminal (not shown) connected to a charger to charge the battery (152). The charging terminal and the battery (152) are circuit-connected to the control unit (150). The charging terminal may be configured to be connected to a USB-type charger used in a mobile phone. Information about the remaining capacity of the battery (152) may be provided to the user terminal (160) through the control unit (150). The user terminal (160) may display the remaining capacity information of the battery (152) on the screen so that the user can easily check it.
[0058] The communication module (153) is installed in the main body (110) and is connected to the control unit (150) in a circuit manner. The communication module (153) can communicate with the communication unit of the user terminal (160) via wired or wireless communication. For example, the communication module (153) may be formed as a Bluetooth communication module. The communication module (153) can communicate with a user terminal (160), such as a smart phone, which is basically equipped with a Bluetooth communication unit.
[0059] At least one of the main body (110) and the user terminal (160) may include a notification unit that outputs a notification for eye drop management. The notification unit may output a notification to warn the user if eye drops are not administered at a set time.
[0060] The notification unit can output notifications in at least one of the following forms: light, sound, and vibration. If the user terminal (160) is a smartphone, the smartphone can output notifications in the form of light, sound, and vibration by using the lamp, speaker, and vibration motor that are basically equipped in the smartphone as a notification unit. Although not shown, the main body (110) can also be equipped with a notification unit including a lamp, speaker, and vibration motor to output notifications in the form of light, sound, and vibration.
[0061] The user terminal (160) can control the notification unit according to the eye drop time setting and notification type setting. The user terminal (160) can control the notification unit according to the eye drop time and notification type set by the user through the input menu of the app displayed on the screen. The user terminal (160) can record eye drop information and transmit the recorded eye drop information to an external management server or the like via communication.
[0062] In an additional aspect, as illustrated in FIGS. 6 and 7, the pressing mechanism (230) may include a pressing depth adjustment unit (234) that adjusts the pressing depth of the eye drop bottle (10) according to the variation in the length of the pressing unit (232), thereby controlling the amount of eye drop dispensed. As the length of the pressing unit (232) increases, the range of motion of the operating lever (131) increases, thereby increasing the pressing depth of the eye drop bottle (10), and as the length of the pressing unit (23) decreases, the range of motion of the operating lever (131) decreases, thereby decreasing the pressing depth of the eye drop bottle (10). As the pressing depth of the eye drop bottle (10) by the pressing unit (232) is adjusted, the amount of eye drop dispensed from the eye drop bottle (10) at a time is controlled, thereby controlling the amount of eye drop dispensed.
[0063] In this case, the pressurizing member (232) may include a first pressurizing rod (232a) whose rear end is connected to the lower end of the operating lever (131), and a second pressurizing rod (232b) that penetrates the side support member (112) so as to be able to move forward and backward while having a pressurizing head (232c) connected to the front end. The rear end of the first pressurizing rod (232a) may be rotatably hinge-connected to the lower end of the operating lever (131). The pressurizing head (232c) is configured in the same manner as the pressurizing head (132b) of the above-described example.
[0064] The pressing depth adjustment unit (234) may include a first screw (234a) formed on the first pressing rod (232a) and a second screw (234b) formed on the second pressing rod (232b) to vary the length of the pressing unit (232) depending on the amount of fastening with the first screw (234a). The first screw (234a) and the second screw (234b) can vary the length of the pressing unit (232) by changing the distance between the first pressing rod (232a) and the second pressing rod (232b) depending on the amount of fastening therebetween.
[0065] The first screw (234a) is illustrated as being a female thread and the second screw (234b) as being a male thread, but the first screw (234a) may be a male thread and the second screw (234b) may be a female thread. The user can adjust the amount of fastening between the first screw (234a) and the second screw (234b) by rotating the second pressure rod (232b) through the pressure head (232c), thereby changing the distance from the first pressure rod (232a). The outer edge of the pressure head (232c) may be formed with grip grooves (234c) for the user's rotational operation.
[0066] In this way, the eye drop monitoring system (100) of the present embodiment enables monitoring of whether eye drops have actually been applied at the appropriate eye drop time, thereby enabling the user to manage eye drops so that they are applied properly and at the right time, thereby increasing the treatment effect of eye diseases such as glaucoma.
[0067] In addition, according to the eye drop monitoring system (100) of the present embodiment, eye drop information can be recorded and transmitted to a doctor, thereby allowing the doctor to determine the patient's compliance, confirm the treatment effect by eye drop, determine the appropriateness of the treatment and the suitability of the drug, and provide a basis for maintaining or changing the eye drop prescription, thereby improving the treatment effect.
[0068] While the present invention has been described with reference to the embodiments illustrated in the accompanying drawings, these are merely exemplary, and those skilled in the art will appreciate that various modifications and equivalent embodiments are possible. Accordingly, the true scope of protection of the present invention should be determined solely by the appended claims.
