Abstract
Description
Resource recovery device for wastewater treatment plants
[0001] The present invention relates to a resource recovery device for waste brine. This research was conducted with funding from the Ministry of SMEs and Startups (Government) and support from the Small and Medium Business Technology Information Promotion Agency (SME Technology Information Promotion Agency), as part of the Small and Medium Business Net-Zero Technology Innovation Development Project (Project Identification Number: 1055001064, Research Institution: August 1, 2022 - July 31, 2025, Project Name: Development of a CO2 Resource Process Utilizing High-Concentration Brine from Refined Salt Byproducts).
[0002] Bittern, the mother liquor left over after salt extraction, is a colorless crystal with a glassy sheen that dissolves when exposed to moisture. Bittern has long been used as a coagulant in tofu, and today it's also a valuable resource for inorganic chemicals. Bittern can be obtained as a byproduct of salt production, or by utilizing the deliquescence process during the storage of crude salt.
[0003] Depending on the source, bittern is classified into dehydrated salt bittern, concentrated seawater, solar salt bittern, and bittern from solar salt during storage, but it is known that it has a nearly consistent chemical composition regardless of the type. Except for those used in food processing and wastewater treatment, most of these bitterns are discarded, which increases the cost of their disposal. To address this, a treatment technology is being proposed that utilizes waste bittern, which is generated in large quantities in the salt farm and solar salt industries, as a raw material for magnesium production and an absorbent for carbon dioxide capture.
[0004] However, conventional treatment technology has the problem of low economic feasibility because it recovers only magnesium and calcium and recycles them into resources, and there is a problem of the purity of the recovered resources being reduced due to potassium and sodium still remaining in the wastewater.
