Abstract
Description
Electrode production device and battery cell including electrode produced using the same, and battery pack and vehicle including battery cell
[0001] This application claims priority to Korean Patent Application No. 10-2023-0119296, filed on September 7, 2023, and all contents disclosed in the specification and drawings of the said application are incorporated by reference into this application.
[0002] The present invention relates to an electrode production device and a battery cell including an electrode produced using the same, and a battery pack and a vehicle including the battery cell, and more particularly, to an electrode production device applicable to various electrodes and a battery cell including an electrode produced using the same, and a battery pack and a vehicle including the battery cell.
[0003] In general, a secondary battery refers to a battery that can be repeatedly charged and discharged, such as a lithium-ion battery, a lithium polymer battery, a nickel-cadmium battery, a nickel-hydrogen battery, or a nickel-zinc battery.
[0004] Secondary batteries can be classified into cylindrical and prismatic batteries, in which the electrode assembly is built into a cylindrical or prismatic metal can, and pouch-type batteries, in which the electrode assembly is built into a pouch-type case made of aluminum laminate sheet, depending on the shape of the battery case.
[0005] These secondary batteries can be manufactured by housing an electrode assembly including a positive electrode and a negative electrode that are mutually laminated with a separator between them, and an electrolyte material in a case of various shapes, and sealing the case.
[0006] The electrode (positive electrode or negative electrode) of a secondary battery may include a support portion on which a coating layer is formed by pressing an electrode mixture onto the surface of an electrode foil, and a non-support portion on which the coating layer is not formed.
[0007] In addition, the electrode of the secondary battery can be produced through a roll-to-roll process in which an electrode foil having a coating layer formed on its surface is wound and moved between rolls. Here, the electrode foil is rolled by a rolling roll while moving between rolls.
[0008] Figures 1(a) and 1(b) are cross-sectional views of a conventional rolling roll having a protrusion formed thereon.
[0009] Referring to FIG. 1(a) and FIG. 1(b), a protrusion (3) is formed on the surface of the main body (2) of the rolling roll (1). Here, the main body (2) presses the holding portion, and the protrusion (3) formed on the main body (2) presses the uncoated portion of the electrode foil to prevent wrinkles from forming in the uncoated portion.
[0010] However, if the specifications of the battery cell (e.g., the width of the electrode) change, the rolling roll (1) must be newly manufactured accordingly. For example, if the electrode was manufactured by using the rolling roll (1) of Fig. 1(a), but the width of the electrode was changed and a rolling roll (1) with an increased spacing between the protrusions (3) (see W1 and W2) than in Fig. 1(a) is required, as in Fig. 1(b), since the protrusions (3) in Fig. 1(a) are fixed to the main body (2), a rolling roll (1) having a spacing between the protrusions (3) as in Fig. 1(b) must be newly manufactured.
[0011] That is, if the specifications of the battery cells are diverse, all rolling rolls (1) that meet the specifications must be manufactured and kept ready, and furthermore, the rolling roll (1) that meets the specifications of the battery cells must be selected to replace the entire rolling roll (1), which causes problems such as difficulty in replacement and increased replacement time.
[0012] In addition, since all rolling rolls (1) that meet the specifications must be manufactured, the manufacturing cost increases, and since all types of rolling rolls (1) that meet the specifications must be stored, there is a problem of difficulty in storage.
[0013] In addition, there is a problem that the overall process time also increases due to the increase in the replacement time of the rolling roll (1).
[0014] Accordingly, the technical problem to be solved by the present invention is to provide an electrode production device applicable to various types of battery cells having electrodes of various specifications, a battery cell including an electrode produced using the same, and a battery pack and an automobile including the battery cell.
[0015] In addition, it provides an electrode production device with reduced manufacturing cost and process time, a battery cell including an electrode produced using the same, and a battery pack and a vehicle including the battery cell.
[0016] However, the technical problems to be solved by the present invention are not limited to the problems described above, and other problems not mentioned can be clearly understood by those skilled in the art from the description of the invention described below.

[0018] In one embodiment, the non-additional pressure unit may include a rotating roller that rotates by contacting the electrode foil; and a peripheral coupling part that is coupled to the rotating roller and is positionally changeable from one position of the rotating roller to another position.
[0019] In one embodiment, the circumferential coupling portion is detachably coupled to the rotating roller, and when the circumferential coupling portion is attached to the rotating roller, it may have a shape protruding from the rotating roller.
[0020] In one embodiment, the maintenance pressurization unit may include a pressurization roller.
[0021] In one embodiment, the circumferential coupling portion is provided in plurality, and the plurality of circumferential coupling portions can be coupled to the rotating roller along a preset interval.
[0022] In one embodiment, a magnetic body is installed inside the rotating roller, and the circumferential coupling part may be composed of a rubber magnet.
[0023] In one embodiment, the magnetic body may include a permanent magnet or an electromagnet.
[0024] In one embodiment, the electromagnet may include a wired electromagnet or a wireless electromagnet.
[0025] In one embodiment, the magnetic body is provided in plurality, and the plurality of magnetic bodies can be arranged at preset intervals along the inner circumference of the rotating roller.
[0026] In one embodiment, the cross-section of the rotating roller is circular, and a plurality of magnetic bodies can be arranged along the circular cross-section.
[0027] In one embodiment, the rubber magnet may be magnetically coupled to the magnetic body inside the rotating roller.
[0028] In one embodiment, the rotating roller may be made of stainless steel.
[0029] In one embodiment, the cross-sectional shape of the circumferential joint may be formed as one of a trapezoid, a semi-ellipse, and a square.
[0030] Meanwhile, according to another aspect of the present invention, a battery cell including an electrode produced using the electrode production device described above may be provided, and further, a battery pack including at least one battery cell described above may be provided, and further, an automobile including at least one battery cell described above may be provided.
[0031] In embodiments of the present invention, since the non-additional pressurization unit provided in the pressurization unit is configured to be changeable from one position coupled to the maintenance pressurization unit to another position, replacement of the entire pressurization unit is unnecessary, and accordingly, there is an effect that can be applied to various types of battery cells having electrodes of various specifications.

[0047] The term 'joint' or 'connection' as used herein includes not only cases where one member is directly joined or directly connected to another member, but also cases where one member is indirectly joined or indirectly connected to another member through a connecting member.
[0048] FIG. 2 is a schematic perspective view of an electrode production device according to an embodiment of the present invention, FIG. 3 is a schematic perspective view of a pressurizing unit in an electrode production device according to an embodiment of the present invention, FIG. 4 is a cross-sectional view of an electrode production device according to an embodiment of the present invention in which a non-pressurizing unit is separated from a maintenance pressurizing unit among pressurizing units, FIGS. 5(a) and 5(b) are drawings showing a non-pressurizing unit among pressurizing units in an electrode production device according to an embodiment of the present invention, FIG. 6 is a cross-sectional view of an electrode production device according to an embodiment of the present invention in which a non-pressurizing unit is coupled to a maintenance pressurizing unit, FIG. 7 is a cross-sectional view of an electrode production device in which a position of a non-pressurizing unit is changed from FIG. 6 and then coupled to a maintenance pressurizing unit, and FIG. 8 is a cross-sectional view taken along line A-A' in FIG. 3.
[0049] Referring to FIG. 2, an electrode production device (10) according to one embodiment of the present invention relates to a device for producing an electrode (anode or cathode) by transporting an electrode foil (400) on which a coating layer (410) is formed. The electrode is a concept that includes both a wet electrode and a dry electrode.
[0050] For example, a wet electrode is manufactured by applying an electrode mixture in a slurry state including a solvent to the surface of an electrode substrate such as an electrode foil (400) to form a coating layer (410), and drying the coating layer (410).
[0051] And, the dry electrode is manufactured through a process of forming a coating layer (410) by pressing an electrode mixture in a powder state (powder mixture) that does not contain a solvent onto the surface of an electrode foil (400). That is, the electrode mixture is mixed without a liquid medium such as a solvent or dispersion medium, and then the electrode mixture in a powder state is pressed while passing it through a rolling roll, for example.
[0052] Here, the electrode foil (400) may include a holding portion (420) on which a coating layer (410) of an active material is formed on the surface, and a non-conductive portion (430) on which the coating layer (410) of the active material is not formed.
[0053] Referring to FIG. 2, an electrode production device (10) according to one embodiment of the present invention includes a transport unit (100), a maintenance pressure unit (200), and a non-maintenance pressure unit (300).
[0054] The transport unit (100) transports the electrode foil (400) on which the coating layer (410) is formed. The transport unit (100) may be various, and may include, for example, a plurality of transport rollers (110) to transport the electrode foil (400) in a roll-to-roll manner.
[0055] However, the transport unit (100) is not limited thereto, but for convenience of explanation, an embodiment in which the transport unit (100) includes a plurality of transport rollers (110) will be described below. In addition, the arrows in FIG. 2 indicate the transport direction of the electrode foil (400).
[0056] The maintenance pressurization unit (200) pressurizes the maintenance portion (420) of the electrode foil (400) conveyed by the conveyance unit (100). The maintenance pressurization unit (200) may be configured in various ways, and may include, for example, a pressurization roller (210), but is not limited thereto.
[0057] Referring to FIG. 2, a coating layer (410) of an active material is formed on the holding portion (420) of the electrode foil (400), and the coating layer (410) is not formed on the non-conductive portion (430), so the holding portion (420) is thicker than the non-conductive portion (430).
[0058] Here, if only the maintenance portion (420) is pressurized by the maintenance pressure unit (200), the non-pressurized portion (430) may be wrinkled or deformed during transport by the transport roller (110).
[0059] In order to prevent the formation of wrinkles or deformation of the non-woven portion (430), the electrode production device (10) according to one embodiment of the present invention includes a non-woven portion pressurizing unit (300).
[0060] The non-pressurizing unit (300) is separated from the maintaining pressure unit (200) and pressurizes the non-pressurizing unit (430). Here, referring to FIG. 2, the non-pressurizing unit (300) may be configured to include a rotating roller (310) and a peripheral coupling part (320). The rotating roller (310) rotates by contacting the electrode foil (400). In addition, the peripheral coupling part (320) is coupled to the periphery of the rotating roller (310).
[0061] Here, if the circumferential joint (320) of the non-additional pressure unit (300) is fixedly connected to the rotating roller (310), non-additional pressure units (300) that meet each specification must be manufactured for battery cells having various specifications.
[0062] For example, if an electrode having a width of W1 between the non-coated portions (430) and the non-coated portions (430) is required to manufacture one battery cell (battery cell of the first model), and if an electrode having a width of W2 between the non-coated portions (430) and the non-coated portions (430) is required to manufacture another battery cell (battery cell of the second model), if the sizes of W1 and W2 are different, both the battery cell of the first model and the battery cell of the second model can be manufactured only when both the electrode having a width of W1 and the electrode having a width of W2 are provided.
[0063] That is, since a non-additional pressurization unit (300) is required to manufacture the battery cell of the first model, and a separate non-additional pressurization unit (300) is also required to manufacture the battery cell of the second model, if the width between the non-additional parts (430) and the non-additional parts (430) differs depending on the battery cell model, the number of non-additional pressurization units (300) required increases. In addition, if the battery cell model differs, there is also the inconvenience of having to replace the non-additional pressurization unit (300) every time.
[0064] To solve these problems, an electrode production device (10) according to one embodiment of the present invention includes a non-additional pressure unit (300) including a rotating roller (310) and a peripheral coupling part (320), and the peripheral coupling part (320) is configured to be coupled to the peripheral portion of the rotating roller (310) so as to be positionally changeable from one position of the rotating roller (310) to another position.
[0065] That is, the circumferential coupling part (320) can be configured to be coupled to another position of the rotary roller (310) while being coupled to one position of the rotary roller (310).
[0066] There are various ways in which the peripheral coupling part (320) can be configured to be repositioned from one position of the rotary roller (310) to another position. For example, the peripheral coupling part (320) can be implemented in a way in which it is detachably coupled to the rotary roller (310). It is not necessarily limited to a detachable method, and, if necessary, an embodiment in which the peripheral coupling part (320) moves to another position while being coupled to the rotary roller (310) is also possible.
[0067] Here, referring to FIG. 3, when the circumferential coupling part (320) is attached to the rotary roller (310), the circumferential coupling part (320) may be provided to have a shape protruding from the rotary roller (310). Accordingly, as in FIG. 2, the circumferential coupling part (320) of the non-pressurizing unit (300) can press the non-pressurizing part (430) of the electrode foil (400).
[0068] Referring to FIG. 3, a plurality of circumferential coupling parts (320) may be provided, and when a plurality of circumferential coupling parts (320) are provided, a plurality of circumferential coupling parts (320) may be coupled to the rotating roller (310) along a preset interval.
[0069] Referring to FIGS. 4 and 8, a magnetic body (311) may be installed inside the rotating roller (310). In addition, the peripheral coupling portion (320) may be composed of a rubber magnet (321, see FIG. 5). That is, the rubber magnet (321) may react with the magnetic body (311) inside the rotating roller (310) to be coupled to the surface of the rotating roller (310), and may also be separated from the rotating roller (310).
[0070] Here, the magnetic body (311) inside the rotating roller (310) may include a permanent magnet or an electromagnet. When the magnetic body (311) is a permanent magnet, a rubber magnet (321) may be attached to the surface of the rotating roller (310), and may also include various types of magnets having a degree of magnetism that allows them to be separated.
[0071] And, if the magnetic body (311) is an electromagnet, the electromagnet may include a wired electromagnet or a wireless electromagnet.
[0072] The wired electromagnet can be configured so that the wire (315) is drawn out through the center of the rotary roller (310) as shown in FIGS. 3 and 4, and when the rotary roller (310) rotates, the wire (315) can be prevented from twisting while rotating together with the rotary roller (310) at the center of the rotary roller (310). Alternatively, various known methods for preventing twisting when the wire (315) rotates can be applied.
[0073] Since the wireless electromagnet supplies current wirelessly and there is no wire (315), twisting of the wire (315) is not a problem.
[0074] Meanwhile, the rubber magnet (321) is configured to have sufficient elasticity. That is, as shown in FIG. 5(a) and FIG. 5(b), the rubber magnet (321) can not only change shape due to elasticity, but also has the properties of a magnet.
[0075] And, as the shape of the rubber magnet (321, see FIG. 5) is transformed, it is attached to the rotary roller (310) so as to wrap around the surface of the rotary roller (310) as shown in FIG. 3. At this time, a magnetic body (311), such as a permanent magnet or an electromagnet, is mounted inside the rotary roller (310) as described above, and the rubber magnet (321) is magnetically coupled to the magnetic body (311) inside the rotary roller (310), so that the rubber magnet (321) can be attached to the surface of the rotary roller (310).
[0076] And, if necessary, the rubber magnet (321) can be separated from the rotating roller (310). For example, if the magnetic body (311) mounted on the rotating roller (310) is a permanent magnet, the worker can separate the rubber magnet (321) coupled to the rotating roller (310) by applying an appropriate force. And, if the magnetic body (311) mounted on the rotating roller (310) is an electromagnet, the rubber magnet (321) can be separated from the rotating roller (310) by stopping the current supply to the electromagnet.
[0077] Referring to Fig. 6, in order to manufacture a battery cell of the first model, the gap between the non-coated portions (430) of the electrode foil (400) and the non-coated portions (430) is appropriately adjusted so that the width becomes W1. In this case, the rubber magnet (321) is attached to the rotating roller (310) at a position corresponding to the magnetic body (311) inside the rotating roller (310). At this time, the magnetic body (311) is provided in plurality, and the plurality of magnetic bodies (311) can be arranged at a preset interval along the inner circumference of the rotating roller (310).
[0078] And, when manufacturing a battery cell of the second model, as shown in Fig. 7, the gap between the non-coated portions (430) of the electrode foil (400) and the non-coated portions (430) is appropriately adjusted to be W2, and the rubber magnet (321) is attached to the rotating roller (310).
[0079] Meanwhile, the cross-section of the rotating roller (310) may have various shapes, for example, a circular shape (see FIG. 8), but is not limited thereto. In addition, a plurality of magnetic bodies (311) may be arranged along the circular cross-section of the rotating roller (310).
[0080] The rotary roller (310) can be made of various materials. For example, the rotary roller (310) can be made of stainless steel to have a predetermined range of rigidity, but is not limited thereto.
[0081] And, the cross-sectional shape of the rubber magnet (321) of the circumferential joint (320) may vary. For example, referring to FIGS. 6 and 7, the cross-sectional shape of the rubber magnet (321) may be a trapezoid, but is not limited thereto, and the cross-sectional shape of the rubber magnet (321) may be formed as, for example, a semi-ellipse, a square, or may have other various shapes.
[0082] An electrode production device (10) according to one embodiment of the present invention has the following effects.
[0083] First, since the circumferential joint (320) coupled to the rotating roller (310) is configured to be changeable from one position to another, there is no need to replace the entire non-additional pressure unit (300), and there is an effect that it can be easily applied to various types of battery cells having electrodes of various specifications simply by changing the position of the circumferential joint (320).
[0084] In addition, since there is no need to equip all types of non-additional pressure units (300), the manufacturing cost is reduced and the difficulty of storage is eliminated.
[0085] In addition, since there is no need to replace the entire non-additional pressure unit (300), the replacement time is reduced, which has the effect of saving the overall process time.
[0086] FIG. 9 is a schematic diagram illustrating the configuration of a battery pack including battery cells equipped with electrodes produced using an electrode production device according to each embodiment of the present invention.
[0087] Referring to FIG. 9, a battery pack (30) according to one embodiment of the present invention may include one or more battery cells (20). Here, the battery cells (20) include electrodes produced using the electrode production device (10) according to each embodiment of the present invention as described above.
[0088] In addition, the battery pack (30) may further include a pack housing (300) for storing the battery cells (20), and various devices for controlling charging and discharging of the battery cells (20), such as a BMS, a current sensor, a fuse, etc.
[0089] FIG. 10 is a drawing for explaining a vehicle including the battery pack of FIG. 9.
[0090] Referring to FIG. 10, a vehicle (40) according to one embodiment of the present invention may include one or more battery cells (20) or battery packs (30) including electrodes produced using an electrode production device (10) according to each embodiment of the present invention. Here, the vehicle (40) includes various types of vehicles that are designed to use electricity, such as electric vehicles or hybrid vehicles.
[0091] In this specification, when terms indicating directions such as up, down, left, and right are used, these terms are only for convenience of explanation, and it is obvious to those skilled in the art that these terms may vary depending on the location of the target object or the location of the observer.
[0092] Although the present invention has been described above with reference to limited embodiments and drawings, the present invention is not limited thereto, and those skilled in the art to which the present invention pertains may make various modifications and variations within the scope of the technical spirit of the present invention and the equivalent scope of the claims to be described below. Therefore, the embodiments disclosed above should be considered in an illustrative rather than a restrictive sense. In other words, the true scope of the technical spirit of the present invention is set forth in the claims, and all differences within the scope of equivalents thereof should be construed as being included in the present invention.
[0093] The present invention relates to an electrode production device and a battery cell including an electrode produced using the same, and a battery pack and an automobile including the battery cell, and is particularly applicable to industries related to secondary batteries.
